Did you know that beef cattle feedlots typically use 12 pounds of corn, oats, and soybeans to produce just one pound of meat... So we're using twelve times the amount of resources it takes to grow plants for human consumption. That means 12 times the amount of land, 12 times the amount of water, 12 times the amount of fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, and fuel for farm machinery, to mention just part of the waste.

Zen Lill, I think that was excellent. I was thinking how to address NadJa. You said it the way I never could. But you said exactly what I was thinking.

We americans do often think alike.

Nadja, you must also understand that the US 'south' is a very different slice of the American lifestyle and the US is a very large place. I'm sure you know this but, the south is known as the bible belt and along with that goes some very deeply indoctrinated ideas (and women who are not very liberated no matter what they're spewing) and while racism is alive and well in the US, the south is a hot bed where it rages on openly (while it rages on covertly everywhere else, not sure which is better actually, not to rage at all would be my answer).

Bible belt people tend to love their god myths and perpetuate the lifestyle myth (family values and all that) more than other people and so rather than question why the 'good book' keeps women controlled by men (bc they wrote it, helloooo) they follow their blind faith and then throw other women under the bus Ann Coulter style to show their faith and honor to god, their men and their values (which were spoonfed early on).

Some of these women (and men, too) are educated people, how people of intellect and science can involve themselves in discussions about a being in the sky who is loving yet fire/brimstone is beyond me. Perhaps some of those college years could be used to study philosophy and psychology so they understand their own inculcation better.

Just as some would believe here that I am a male apologist (and would say they are basing that on their own views not anything I do, I live my life with the males in it with more open communication and feminist values than most women), I would suggest that all people, from the south or anywhere else, man and woman, do some reading that is not part of their culture, we have all bought into some serious bs and 'American' cultural beliefs...it happens fairly easily especially if one is brought up in a family where it's frowned upon to do otherwise.

So, yes, American white women can be very stupid particularly if they are raised in a family that never questions popular beliefs and are not taught to think, and no that's not an excuse for not doing it as an adult, I"m just trying to explain some of the deeply ingrained brain patterns esp in the south, the women from there aren't called 'southern belles' without a reason. Backing up an Ann Coulter is not that hard to believe when you think about the above - think about what you've believed since childhood and psychological indoctrination goes deeper than physical threats.

Maybe this has info has further confused you, I hope not. I never mean to be confusing, I just write stream of consciousness and hope for the best : )
