Mischa, great picture - wow! I love the clothing of that era also, my mother always looked great with hats, gloves, and fur trimmed coats, love it! How are you, maybe we can talk this week? I'll call and we can start the phone tag : ) Hope you had fun celebrating!

Gloria, I concur completely with your assessment of McMillan, I'm thinking she is also a businesswoman who knows that there is a huge market for her bullshit (women who want relationships) and that's no bullshit. It's not, and of course I have researched that fact.

I think defining women through marital relationships is coming to an end, & McMillan gives her 1 sentence disclaimer about substituting 'long term relationship' for marriage, I guess she heard some hate mail on her quest for women to be married, as if it's a must. I think she should stop marrying, stop writing and take a personal journey before doing anything else, her writing has a very pop cultural-ish American pragmatic feel to it, there's no heart in that article.

I'm seriously considering doing seminars on mindful relationships, starting with the one you have with yourself. It's really not that hard to have one or more relationships or whatever you want, here you go: get connected with yourself, then others, then just be, do and serve (be of service to people you care about) and do it bc you want to and stop attaching your life expectations to everyone other than yourself who enters the room.
Re: relationships - I've seen women with non-negotiable lists and or 'characteristics' lists a mile long, hmm, good luck with that, none of that crap produces connection with the self or anyone else. On first dates asking what men think of marriage is such rubbish it makes me ill, who cares, on a first date you should be wondering if you even like him and would he qualify for a second date, that's it...

I have much more to say on that but I'll save it for another time.

I hope we also remember those servcie members who are still fighting.

It is important that we continue our commitment to them and their families by making sure that they have the resources they need to compete for good jobs and re-enter the civilian workforce.

First I'd like to say Michelle, I couldn't get in to tell you what a wonderful way to say thanks to mom that was.

Zen Lill, I think you were being kind to Kate and the author, Tracy McMillian she was talking about. Sometimes you can shoot the messenger if what they are saying is pure bullshit.

Defining oneself by whether or not one has a marriage is pathetic. That is exactly what McMillian can't stop doing.

Hence the three failed marriages and her attempts at catharsis by ranting to others with the implication that what she has gone through looking to claim a successful marriage as a sign of success as a woman.

I saw a very old man dressed in his WW1 uniform, it was truly touching and inspiring...it gave everyone pause as he sat with his younger relative and drank coffee, hunched over from age and of course, it is sheer projection, though I'm thinking he spent some time thinking of his fallen compadres, the visual made me think of them and maybe that's why he did it, to share that memory.

Kate, you posted that test and article 2x's, I'd read the earlier article last year, she has an odd way of stating her views but I won't shoot the messenger : ) she makes some valid points in a seemingly tongue-in-cheek way, and crazy is as crazy does, that cannot be denied.

It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies."

You have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don't like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting.

Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.'

Now you're paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom.

This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.
