Michelle, In Missouri, the crooks are attempting to interject politics into Missouri's courtrooms. The crooks call themselves Better Courts for Missouri.

They are trying to make judge selection based on how the judges ruled in their cases rather than the merit-based selection process that has been in existence in Missouri for decades.

Thank you for your timely article.

Michelle, in my state of Illinois, the Illinois Supreme Court has created a commission to study barriers that prevent some poeple from getting their day in court.
============================

These barriers include, according to an Associated Press article, complex legal documents that can prevent self-representation in court; the inability of disabled and poor people to reach downstate courthouses; and the difficulty of finding affordable legal representation.

“The purpose is to make access to justice a high priority for everyone in the legal system,” Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride said. “This includes judges, clerks, attorneys, other court personnel and even our law schools.”

Executive Director Joseph Dailing of The Illinois Coalition for Equal Justice maintained that poor people, who can’t afford expensive lawyers and who don’t fully understand the complex legal system, are left defenseless in the courts. Dailing advocates for a “more user-friendly and accessible” civil justice system “for the growing number of people who are coming to the courts without lawyers.”
============================
I hope the changes will enable people who cannot afford to hire a lawyer to be able to go to court as their own lawyers.

Michelle, you have broached a subject that emphasizes the need for the US Senate under Harry Reid to pursue filibuster reform. It they do not the Senate will use the old rules to block most of Obama's judicial nominees.

It is the Senate who has the responsibility to confirm a president's nominations so it is very important for the democrats to work of filibuster reform. If they do not fix that problem, they will likely doom the President's second-term legacy in that department before he even has a chance to write it.

Michelle, you brought up a very important issue. The Right has made it a concerned effort to deprive Obama of the opportunity to fill the judicial vacancy crisis.

There are 15 federal circuit court judgeships vacant, and 68 district court judgeships. Those 83 openings undermine prompt, economical and fair case disposition.

They do not want an independent judgeship. They are looking to appoint men who will support the handout system and the 1% against the people.
