While I understand that there are horrific challenges to parenting a mentally ill child, Adam Lanza was not a child and his Mother, as a gun owner, failed to properly secure numerous automatic weapons from the son whom she knew was mentally unbalanced.

I will go one step farther and state that because she was evidently the first victim, she will never know just how many lives were ended or destroyed by her need to own weapons that she saw no need to secure.

IMHO, she got off easy.

Taking a kid with any kind of cognitive disability to a firing range with Mom's gun collection - whether he has classic mental illness or chronic "odd behavior" to the point of having to be home schooled--is madness.

So, too, is buying him video games which not only glorify violence but encourage in-home participation in firing electronic guns back at the TV. Whatever set Adam Lanza off on his final journey, his mom bought him the ticket to get there.

Guns and ammo have to be licensed but so, too, should parenthood.

Sadly, once a person turns 18 it is impossible to get them help if they don't want it. If Adam Lanza's mother knew how disturbed he was (and how could she not, living in the same house with him?), what the hell was she thinking having all of those unsecured guns in the house?

It's about time.
=========================

A Chamorro academic at a United States university says she is one of a number of feminist scholars re-framing negative historical perceptions of Guam’s indigenous women.

Tina DeLisle of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is researching the importance of the Guma Irritao, residential schools for young men where they were taught skills such as fishing, canoe-building and navigation.

She says although 17th century Spanish colonists recognised the power of women in Guam’s matrilineal society, they demonised them for visiting the Guma Irritao, portraying their behaviour as immoral.

“Those accounts that early Chamorro institution, form of education, and really missed the whole thing around sexuality, which conveys a different notion of sexuality, right, very contrary to what the Spanish believed - you had to be married in order to have sex.”

Tina DeLisle says accounts by the early 20th century’s American colonists also misrepresented Chamorro women.

The Republicans in the Senate WANT him to be the Secretary NOT because of qualifications but because it would force a special election in Massachusetts. They are SO PO’ed that Scott Brown the Lapdog of Wall Street] lost to Elizabeth Warren they were willing to throw Susan Rice under the bus to get that seat back.

Now the Conservatives are SCREAMING that he is not worthy. Remember two great phrases: Beggars cannot be choosers, and Be careful what you wish for – you may get it! ;)
