Guam Memorial Hospital now has a doctor on board with experience in treating ebola patients in Liberia. That doctor is ER Dr. Georgina Calderon. GMH Administrator Joe Verga tells us she’s now in charge of preparing a response team for the hospital in case ebola ever reaches the island.

Dr. Calderon says, “The hospital is taking ebola preparedness very seriously. We’ll prepare the hospital to make this a safe environment for both our patients and staff.”

Dr. Calderon tells us how it was like at the hospital she worked in when the epidemic started in Africa. She says, “It all comes down to preparation. Work with what you have. We had very little, but it also created opportunity for education. We did what we could.”

In addition to introducing Dr. Calderon, the hospital is also educating and training their staff on ebola as part of their Annual Infection Control Fair.

Nursing student Jeanette Alcaide says, “It’s a good idea. It helps us be prepared with the ebola preparation if ever it came to Guam. I think it’s really good. It’s making us feel safer on the island.”

With his staff being educated on ebola and with an experienced doctor on board, Verga reassures us that everything is under control.

“If someone showed up on our doors today, we would do our best to handle them. We have our PPE, isolations rooms but we want to continue to improve our preparedness. Certainly, this isn’t anything to be hysterical about. There’s a lot to be said with how isolated we are,” Verga says.

You’ve probably heard about BPA, the dangerous chemical found in plastics. I’ve been warning my readers about BPA for the past five years. And many of you have listened. You’ve refused to buy bottles and containers that contain BPA.

The Plastics manufacturers have listened, too. They’ve saved their industry and calmed the public by coming up with new “BPA-free” bottles and containers. What they failed to tell anyone was that many of these products contain BPS, a chemical similar to BPA. And new studies show that BPS is just as toxic as BPA!

Just like BPA, it mimics estrogen. Just like BPA, it interferes with the way cells respond to existing estrogen. Just like BPA, it changes cell growth patterns. And a brand new study has found that it does all this even in tiny doses!

And BPS isn’t just found in bottles and containers. It’s found in 100% of thermal cash register and credit card receipts.3 It’s found in 87% of paper money and 52% of recycled paper. It’s even in the paper made for ultrasound machines which means that even pregnant women and their children are exposed!

And now this toxin is ending up where it doesn’t belong… in our bodies. Researchers have discovered BPS in the urine of a whopping 93% of Americans they tested! Yes, 93%!

And BPS isn’t the only toxin that may be lurking in your body…

In one recent study, scientists tested a group of families for 107 different man made toxins. They tested the blood and urine samples from every family member, including grandparents, parents and children. Here’s what they found… Every single person from the youngest to the oldest was contaminated with toxins! They found PCBs, organochlorine pesticides, brominated flame retardants, perfluorinated chemicals, and more.

A comprehensive survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control found 148 different chemicals in the blood and urine samples of 2,400 Americans.More than a quarter of all the samples contained benzo(a)pryene, a toxin found in automobile exhaust fumes. And nine out of ten samples contained a mixture of toxic pesticides.

National Geographic Magazine paid nearly $15,000 to test one of their reporters for the presence of 320 different chemicals as part of an undercover investigation into environmental toxins. They discovered that the reporter’s level of one flame retardant chemical was so high it would have been considered alarming, even if the reporter had worked in a plant that manufactured the chemical!

A Mount Sinai School of Medicine study found a total of 167 different chemicals in the blood and urine samples of volunteers. That’s an average of 91 toxins each. They found lead, dioxins, PCBs, phthalate DEHP, as well as compounds that have been banned for more than a quarter century. Bottom line: every single person in every study was contaminated.
