Which Hellooo…It’s amazing the vitriolic attacks posted toward him on youtube. Although sadly, not surprising since he isn’t white, but jeez he’s just a 14-year old kid. Another example of what OTWs have to endure that white privilege doesn’t. […]

Donald Trump just selected Indiana Governor Mike Pence for vice president.1 And that means that the next five days could be the most important of Trump's entire campaign.

You see, Republicans want to use Gov. Pence to make it seem like Trump is prepared to govern. Pence was in Congress for 10 years, was the 4th highest ranking member in House leadership, and has been the governor of Indiana since 2013.

What Republicans don't want people to know is that Gov. Pence is one of the most extreme right-wing politicians in America.

Pence signed the notorious "license to discriminate" bill allowing businesses to deny service to LGBT people.2 He's so extreme on abortion that he voted for legislation that would give personhood rights to embryos and defund Planned Parenthood.3

He even compared Obamacare to the 9/11 attacks and threatened to block Hurricane Katrina reconstruction unless it was offset by cuts to Medicare, the National School Lunch Program, and PBS.4,5

In this heat, you need to make sure you do two things:
Stay hydrated.
Stay nourished.
Staying hydrated is pretty straightforward: Drink plenty of water.

Staying nourished, on the other hand, is a little trickier when you're exerting yourself...

You need to make sure you’re getting the right carbs, fats, proteins, electrolytes… and all sorts of other things to support your body.

And that can be pretty complicated — which is why I’m making it deliciously simple for you right now!

From me to you on this hot summer day… Here’s the simple, easy recipe for my favorite recovery smoothie!

Dr. Amy Lee’s Summer Recovery Smoothie

This smoothie has all the most important things you need to refresh and restore your body after you put it to work in the heat:
Electrolytes from coconut water and bananas.
Protein, fats, and omega 3 from flax, almond butter, and avocado.
Restorative carbohydrates (the right kind) and fiber from whole fruit and green leafy vegetables.
Important micronutrients from pretty much every ingredient.
AMAZING TEXTURE AND TASTE!
Enjoy!

lngredients:
1 cup no-sugar-added coconut water
¼ avocado
½ banana
¼ cup ground flaxseed
1 tablespoon almond butter
½ cup frozen or fresh pineapple
½ cup frozen or fresh strawberries
2 cups spinach

Instructions:
Add the spinach to a blender, followed by all the other ingredients

Blend until smooth. If it’s too chunky, thin it out with a little water, but let me make a quick case for keeping it thick:
A study just published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that drinking thicker shakes or smoothies can actually leave you feeling 5 times as full as thinner drinks.1

Modification:
If you worked your body extra hard... add half a scoop of your favorite protein powder and double the coconut water.

I hope you love this smoothie as much as I do. There is nothing I enjoy more after a workout. In fact, sometimes, I exercise just so I have an excuse to drink it!

So, enjoy your exercise, enjoy the smoothie, and have a fantastic rest of your day!

Stay healthy,
