The Gay Pride festivities aren't over. We have a Oakland Gay Pride parade in mid-September.

Just across the bay from San Francisco and sharing a border with the liberal university city of Berkeley, the city of Oakland (population 414,000) - long a major shipping and manufacturing base - has undergone a major renaissance in recent years.

As the cost of living has risen in San Francisco and other parts of the Bay Area, many have moved to Oakland, and neighborhoods throughout the city - from Rockridge to the north to downtown to Lake Merritt, to historic Jack London Square and the waterfront to Alameda - have seen an influx of new transplants, including many LGBT residents.

Increasingly compared with the alternative arts and indie culinary scenes of Portland, Austin, and Brooklyn, Oakland is very much a city to watch, and a fun place to explore.

If you happen to be in the area in autumn, you can also attend a relatively new (now in its sixth year) LGBT event, Oakland Gay Pride, which takes place this year in mid-September 2016.

The date hadn't been confirmed as of this writing, but based on last year's calendar, it'll likely be around the second weekend of the month.

Zen Lill, did you make it to the states? I was hoping you'd make it to SF for the festivities. I brought some friends who I gave pictures of you to so they could help me find you.

I'm not a stalker. Some of the girls that were helping me were wanna be Girlz. We just wanted to meet you personally.

Gay Pride in SF was great as usual. I just wish some of you would come down to Santa Cruz for the Santa Cruz Gay Pride Festival takes place about 2 to 3 weeks before your SF Gay Pride parade.

It is at Cathcart, Cedar, and Lincoln streets. The festival, which has been going strong for more than four decades, is preceded by the Santa Cruz Gay Pride Parade, and led by Dykes on Bikes, Cheer San Francisco, and the parade's grand marshals. The parade runs along Pacific from Church to Cathcart.

Michelle, next year I will send you notice way in advance. We love your blog and know if you mention it SF will come.

Love you and all you do to make this world better for all of us.

Michelle I came down from Sacramento to attend the SF parade. But folks you should come up to Sacramento for the Gay Parade we throw. It is usually done before the SF one.

This year the date was Saturday, June 4, 2016. It is usually a few weeks before your San Francisco Gay Pride event.

Tickets cost $10. The festival comprises vendors and booths featuring local GLBT-friendly businesses and organizations, an Art Zone, and entertainment throughout the day - performers this year included headliners Wilson Phillips, RuPaul Drag Race star Bob The Drag Queen, and many others.

Next year join us.
