RECIPE FOR YOUTH: A PINCH OF BASIL... ANCIENT HERB FOR ANTI-AGING

New research adds more evidence to what practitioners of Ayurvedic natural medicine have believed for thousands of years -- Indian basil has anti-aging properties. Popularly known as holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) or tulsi, Indian basil was studied by researchers at the Poona College of Pharmacy in Pune, India, and the results were reported at the recent British Pharmaceutical Conference, "Pharmacy in the 21st Century: Adding Years to Life and Life to Years," in Manchester, United Kingdom.
While there are more than 40 varieties of basil (all members of the mint family), holy basil in particular has tremendous cultural importance in India and Nepal and is among the most important herbs in the Ayurvedic tradition. It is used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including stress, heart and respiratory problems, diabetes, digestive and skin disorders, inflammation and pain. In this study, researchers set out to substantiate traditional Ayurvedic beliefs in holy basil's antioxidant and rejuvenation properties.
HOLY BASIL HAS ANTIOXIDANT EFFECT
Experimental groups of mice received either no extract of holy basil or one of three different doses. The findings showed cellular antioxidant effects. Lead author Vaibhav Shinde, MPharm, told me that the study concluded that holy basil "is highly protective against oxidative damage, with a multidimensional role -- it scavenges free radicals, balances the antioxidant enzyme system, and stimulates metabolism of oxidative waste products."
Holy basil is typically ingested in one of two ways... the traditional Ayurvedic method is to boil fresh leaves and water until the water reduces to half. Then you can either drink the resulting "tea" or eat the crushed herb when it cools. However, since it is difficult to find the fresh leaves in the US, you can also use dried holy basil. It is also available as an ingredient in commercially available herbal teas.
Holy basil has a clove-like fragrance and a sharper, spicier taste than the more familiar sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum) commonly used in Italian, Asian and American cooking, though the two are closely related. Holy basil can be found online and in health food stores as a supplement and the fresh leaves are available in many Thai and Vietnamese markets. Generally speaking, however, it is more valued for cultural and healing purposes than for cooking.

Michelle
Sir

I am one of your candidate Girlz. I have finished my assignments. One of which sent me into parallel worlds. I visited a universal set where I saw myself before I was beamed up to be a girl. I saw my return to earth as I am experiencing it today.

At the time I was curious about Anonz. He is a constant interest of the ship commanded by Madaline. I moved ahead in time to see what he would do. I miscalculated my shot and arrived during a battle between Anonz's forces and the Chinese army that was helping teach the Sudanese arabs how to conduct ethic cleansing in a more efficient and unrecordable manner. As I came from the a small village in China, this was of particular interest to me. So I recalculated to arrive at the end of the skirmish and appear in the Chinese mindset of events.

Anonz had decided that he was going to teach the Chinese that there was a price to pay for their intervention in the genocide of the black africans in Dafur and the surrounding villages. His force of 231 were winning against about 1300 Sudanese and 157 Chinese military advisers. But the Chinese refused to allow their advisers to suffer such a lost of face.

They sent in an additional 4700 Chinese special forces personnel trained in guerilla tactics and 8,000 regular army personnel. They cut off Anonz's escape into Somalia at Dunz. Anonz and 7 others decided to stay and distract the main Chinese offensive.

During his defeat of the 1,457 Sudanese and Chinese, his forces killed 1,455. The two surviving Sudanese escaped to advise the forces surrounding Anonz that his army had suffered considerable injuries and had returned repeatedly to rescue injured comrades.

The Chinese pursued a policy of wounding rather than killing Anonz's men with sharpshooters stationed along the route he had secured from the Somalis. Unfortunately for Anonz, one of the Somali sergeants sold the information to the Chinese, so they new the route he and his men would be taking to escape via the sea from Somalia.

Anonz realizing that he and his entire force would be surrounded and captured or killed devised a plan to distract the main body with him and seven of his most experienced personnel.

The plan worked. 211 men escaped to Germany. 13 were killed in the original skirmish. Anonz and the other seven were killed July 23, 2009 in a border town 3 kilometers from the Somali border.

On September 7, 2009 the 211 men met in secret to honor him with this tribute - "Anonz, was entirely capable of being charming. But he had no time for superficial niceties.
To those who worked closely with him, he was keenly intelligent, unshakably focused, unrelentingly intense, demanding of excellence and intolerant of failure. He could be abrupt, and unsparing with criticism.
But, as one said, if you didn't take it personally and did your job, you saw through the rough edges to his core values. He was unfailingly generous to causes he believed in, expecting nothing in return."
We, the remaining 211 honor him this day. We owe our lives and financial good fortune to his word that he would not leave us in despair whether he lived or died.
I, ______, as the ranking Commander of this unit do now disband it. Let it be known that the last words from Anonz to me were. "Go, you are in command now, save your men, I do what must be done. Don't look back."

I, Liu, tell you this in the event you wish to change his destiny. I hope you will not see me as interfering in your wishes for Anonz. I have not told anyone else about this. As I have no other way of contacting you now that I am back on earth I am using your blog to inform you of my experience.
If you order me back immediately, I could relay the exact coordinates to Madaline via suit memory. Presently we were sent back without the ability to contact until we have served out our 30 days on earth.
Since I am an earthling now, there is no chain of command to pursue this through. I could not relay my experience to Madaline because for our last mission we were informed that their would be no time for debriefing before we were returned to earth as our warp patterns would not permit re-entry into this space and time due to energy requirements pre calculated.
I am on earth wishing I was upstairs with Madaline and the Girlz. I hope this will find favor with you and you will reassign me as it fits your needs.

WARM HANDS AND FEET TO BRING ON SLEEP

Next time you have trouble falling asleep, do what mom used to suggest... make yourself all cozy and warm -- but perhaps not for the reasons you'd expect. In 2004, Swiss researchers found that temperature in the extremities relative to the core is the most important physiologic predictor of sleep onset -- even more so than feeling sleepy. Now researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City have learned how these warm feelings -- especially in your hands and feet -- make you sleepy and why it's not as simple as wearing socks to bed.
WARM FUZZY THOUGHTS
In speaking with Matthew Ebben, PhD, sleep expert and psychologist at the Center for Sleep Medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and a lead researcher in the area of sleep and body temperature, I learned that what's at work here is not simply the temperature of your hands and feet but rather the physiological process involved in warming extremities. Prior to falling asleep, circulation increases to the periphery, including your hands and feet. Your body cools slightly and sleep ensues.
HOW TO DO IT
Dr. Ebben's recent research focused on the use of biofeedback to teach people how to bring warmth to their limbs. Currently used to treat several medical conditions, biofeedback involves using the mind to influence measurable physiologic aspects -- such as lowering blood pressure or raising body temperature. Electrodes were attached to the hands and feet of subjects, all of whom suffered from insomnia. Temperature data fed into a computer, displaying the results so subjects could see how well their efforts worked. They were told to use whatever positive imagery they liked to try to increase the temperature of their hands and feet. Specific instructions were avoided, but general guidelines such as "think of the sun" or "imagine a beach" were suggested.
Most subjects quickly learned how to bring heat to their hands and feet. Research currently underway indicates they may fall asleep faster too. There's no need to wait around for those definitive results, however... this is one technique you can safely try at home. I'd bet you don't even need a biofeedback device. Just paint a mental picture of the warm sun shining its rays on the paws of those sheep you've been counting... and counting... and off to dreamland you'll go.
