I am with you on most of your comments. But on this one I agree and disagree. Yes, I believe the most popular politician on the planet is very good for Guam. But I think that President Obama can help Guam better by forcing us to do more for ourselves.

Obama can help Guam walk on its own

BY FELIX AGUON • MAY 2, 2009
I don't know about all of you, but a few months ago it seemed like the whole country expressed rather strongly that what they wanted was change. You know what? I think we are all going to get what we wanted.I think that Obama is a man who really hasn't decided all of what he intends to do as president and I want to call on him, as an island boy himself, to assist the islands in the Marianas to become, if possible, more assertive and more apt to do things for ourselves.
We are an indigenous people. Unlike the native Americans in the states, we have not made our own decisions in quite some time. We still are not strong enough to make decisions for ourselves.
Our president is being chastised for things that he has done in his first 100 days and some have been saying that what he is doing is treason. I would like to think that he is acting on behalf of the country and doing what he thinks is best.
Of course, time will tell if his agenda will be successful. He obviously has the guts to do what he must do as president and I wonder if the people of the U.S. really know who they elected.
I want for the president to visit us out here in the Marianas and see what a mess all of this has become. We really have not been able to do the best with what we have had because we were never really in charge.
How can we ever be the people we all really want to become in the world when our big brother can swoop in any time and take whatever we have away from us at the slightest whim? We still need to be able to slip and fall every now and then, but given time we should be able to walk on our own and do things for ourselves.
There are not a lot of people like Barack Obama, and there are not a lot of people in the world like Chamorros.

You Chamorros who voted for Guam while you were in the mainland did good by Guam because President Obama has been good to Guam.

Obama has been good for Guam

BY RAY TENORIO • MAY 2, 2009
President Obama's greatest achievement in his first 100 days was no small feat. He managed to bring a divided country together and give Americans hope. Whether you agree with his policies or not, we have a president who can sit down with Democrats and Republicans to move our nation and beautiful island forward. President Obama is proving that a bipartisan accord is more effective than partisan politics, which limits us.Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of some of the president's policies. Some programs in the stimulus package may end up burdening Guam taxpayers when federal funding ends. I don't agree with cutting bonus pay to our troops. I have always been resistant to more taxes on our people. Regardless of these concerns, I do like how much attention and support the President and his administration have paid to Guam in these first 100 days.
Guam's future has been tied so closely to federal assistance. Gov. Felix Camacho for six years built relationships with the Bush administration to get that support. The true test is whether the transition has been smooth into the Obama years.
By all accounts, in the first 100 days it has. President Obama doesn't care which political party is in charge; his administration is taking care of Guam. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton allayed our concerns and formalized the Guam buildup with Japan. President Obama included Guam in his stimulus package, thanks in large part to the bipartisan efforts of Camacho and Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo. In his first 100 days, he already has committed to signing Bordallo's war claims bill if the Senate passes it.
President Obama's bipartisan initiatives in his first 100 days have set the stage for an administration that tolerates everything but intolerance. We must share this attitude. By cooperating with local public and private leaders, along with working with the Obama administration, our island can get the federal support we need.
Fortunately, our Legislative leaders demonstrated their commitment to a unified "Team Guam" approach when they visited the nation's capitol in March. Speaker Judith Won Pat, Sen. Eddie Calvo, Vice Speaker Benjamin Cruz and Majority Leader Sen. Rory Respicio went to Washington, D.C., and talked to leaders on both sides of the political aisle. The issues ranged from war reparations and consent decrees to the military buildup and a host of other matters concerning both Republicans and Democrats. These are Guam issues, which matter to our entire island.
We can have a very fruitful relationship with the Obama administration if we can continue casting aside our political labels and differences. Together, we can help secure a new direction for Guam.
Ray Tenorio is a Republican senator in the 30th Guam Legislature.

Sip This for Superhealthy Teeth

Can't get to your toothbrush? Try sipping a cup of green tea instead.

Research shows that drinking green tea may be a good way to impress your dentist. In a study, the more green tea men drank, the better their gums fared during dental exams.

Green for Great Gums
You know that part of the dental exam when your dentist pokes and prods your gums to see how healthy they are? The study showed not only did frequent green tea drinkers have better results during the exam, but also their gums bled less. Here's a bonus reason to drink green tea: better tooth enamel.

Polish Your Pearlies
Researchers think it's the catechins in green tea that somehow prevent cavity-producing plaque from forming, which in turn protects teeth and gums. Catechins may also help reduce gum inflammation. Find out about the link between gum inflammation and heart disease.

Here are three other tasty treats that can help keep your teeth pretty-as-a-picture perfect:
	•	Chew gum. Just be sure to choose this type.
	•	Eat dates. Find out how nature's sweet treat is sweet for teeth, too.
	•	Munch fruit and veggies. Save money on teeth-whitening products by eating these stain-fighting foods.
RealAge Benefit: Seeing a dental professional every 6 months to have your gums checked and cared for, or more often if advised, can make your RealAge as much as 6.4 years younger.
