This Month, Marianas Media Will Launch A New Television Documentary About Chamorro Identity In The Face Of Guam's Military Buildup -- Exclusively On The CW4 Guam
GUAM - From Marianas Media, the creators of MANHITA: Building Our Future Together and other groundbreaking television documentaries for Guam, comes HINASSO: Remembering Who We Are.

?Eminent Chamorro historian and Guam leader, Robert Underwood, wrote that there is a distinct Chamorro political ideology comprised of three main components: a demand for fairness and equality in treatment, a demand for respect, and a readiness to fight for land.

Sadly, these principles -- along with many other Chamorro beliefs, values and experiences – have long been silent in the colonial narratives of Guam’s history. Upholding the view that “what’s good for the Navy is good for the natives,” the people of the island became relegated to being players in a narrative created for them, their own voices conspicuously silent.

Why is there a need to re-examine the retelling of Guam’s history from the perspective of the long-silenced “native voices,” and not just to be players in someone else’s narrative? How did a people that previously had worked towards political freedom suddenly become natives whose “patriotism would put many a US citizen to shame” in such a short time? Why do Chamorros continue to serve in the US military in such high numbers, driven by an undiminished sense of gratitude and patriotic duty? How do perpetuated images and memories of being “liberated” figure into a prevailing consciousness of dependency on the US government and US military? And how does the impending relocation of 8,000 U.S. marines and their families from Okinawa to Guam in the largest military buildup since WWII become another turning point in defining the Guamanians’ relationship with the US military and how it continues to determine Guam’s destiny?
The television premiere of HINASSO will air exclusively on "The CW4 Guam" on July 4, 2009.

Luscious Low-Fat Ice Creams

Most ice cream makers offer low-fat products that have less saturated fat and fewer calories than traditional products -- and they can taste just as good as regular ice cream. Here's what to look for...
Two grams or less of saturated fat per one-half-cup serving, versus 4.5 grams for regular ice cream. Calories will range from 100 to 200 per serving.
Short list of ingredients -- preferably with only five or six ingredients -- and no artificial flavors or colors.
Experiment with different brands to determine which flavors and textures you like best.
Good-tasting low-fat offerings today...

*All brands tested were vanilla. Nutrition information for one-half-cup serving.
Also consider these alternatives to low-fat ice cream. They deliver lots of flavor with even less saturated fat...
Sherbet, Italian ice and sorbet
Some varieties of frozen yogurt
Nondairy soy- and rice-based frozen desserts, available in natural-foods stores and some supermarkets.
Caution: Toppings such as caramel, fudge, whipped cream and candies add substantial calories and saturated fat.
Of course, large -- or frequent -- servings of low-fat ice cream also can result in calorie and fat intakes that exceed healthful levels.

Who can say what it means to be black in America? I have many black friends. They never complain to me about the treatment they receive form whites. I have been guilty of complacence. I would have argued that there is no more need for affirmative action. But this article says I am wrong.

If people in my race feel this free to insult the President of the United States of America because he is black, what would stop them from doing anything to the average black person? I am ashamed of those in my race that tolerate this type of behavior.
