The recent Salmonella outbreak from peanut butter has many of us asking how we can avoid getting sick.

Good news: Not everyone who eats Salmonella-contaminated food gets sick. To fight off foodborne germs…
Strengthen immunity with the proper nutrients. Carotenoids (top sources include apricots, carrots, sweet potatoes and winter squashes)… omega-3 fatty acids (fish, nuts)… zinc (crab, red meat, oysters, poultry).
Don’t reduce stomach acid. Too little stomach acid increases the risk for a foodborne gastrointestinal infection. If you have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), try lifestyle changes before turning to acid-reducing drugs, such as cimetidine (Tagamet) and esomeprazole (Nexium).
To prevent GERD: Eat relatively small, frequent meals. Limit consumption of alcoholic drinks, chocolate and coffee. Do not eat anything for three hours before lying down.
Avoid antibiotics. They can make people more susceptible to Salmonella. If you need them, consult your physician about taking probiotics, dietary supplements that contain bacteria similar to the healthful bacteria naturally present in the body.

Long weekends can be long, bummer to be house bound. I cannot imagine that, I’d go stir crazy for sure, but FL 95 is nothing anyone wants to be out in.

To you and Grant, right on…Obama shouldn’t have to be ‘screened’ that’s ludicrous. But ludicrous is exactly what saying things like ‘we want our country back’ etc…oh ok, let’s give you ‘your country’ back and watch Cheney (wtf???) and Palin (oh pleeeaaaseee, how this woman made it into the spotlight is a matter worth discussing) run it into the ground under the guise of being ‘patriotic’ (more like idiotic). Get a grip ‘proud to be white’s’ – in and of itself bring white should not be your source of self accomplishment/pride, I’m not UN-proud of it, I’m white, to me it’s just another adjective to describe my physicality, nothing more, nothing less…

Oh and texting defintely is not a good idea – I was indulging for a minute till I figured out that it was a matter of time till an accident ocurred. Stop lights or pull overs or just wear a headset and call!

I am getting a bit stir carzy. I have only left the house for a half hour yesterday to buy a few things at the Walgreens store on the corner. Today I am pacing the floor. I hate long weekends because the pace of life slows down around me and it is pretty slow to begin with.

I feel confined to my home. It is boring but I cannot go very far because It is 95 degrees outside but a cool 73 in my house, and I have diffculty and pain walking, so Home it is.

I think those children will grow up remembering they were instructed by a black President to study and stay in school anyway. I would remember his visit to my school if I were young.

It is a shame that President Obama allows this. He is Commander in Chief of this Nation. Nobody should be able to stifle his speeches. The Office of the President has had its respect taken away from it by these bigots. I, too, am ashamed to be white today.

I do not understand why the President humbles himself and allows inferior white people to sensor his speeches or anything else. He must set an example for black children that they can accomplish anything if they try and get an education.

I watched “Meet the Press” this morning and I thought about your question to AH. While I don’t believe that he is the real Alexander Hamilton, I do agree with what he said. I would like to add a few observations of my own.

I may not have the sensitivity to the subject that the OTWs have but I have noticed that we caucasians are a bit over bearing and self absorbed at times. For example this notion that principals of schools should pre judge President Obama’s speech he will give on Tuesday to school children. A speech in which he will tell them that studying is very important.

This is about a group of whites trying to prevent a black man from addressing their children from a position of equality. Once a black man, the President of the United States of America, yet, speaks nationally to white children, it will be difficult to continue claiming that OTWs are mentally inferior to whites.

Those children will grow up remembering they were instructed by a black man to study and stay in school. But since the bigots are maintaining that his speech needs to be screened before white children can hear it, they will remember that a black man, even one that was the President of the United States of America was not good enough to talk directly to white children. It was necessary for white men to preview his message.

The point is that any white man can do this, even lowly principals. The other point is non of the pundits, anchors, or other whites in prominent positions will object to this obvious racist stand. For some white men Obama must be humbled at every turn. And he must be stopped from a second term whatever it takes.

The office of the President has had its respect taken away from it by these bigots and the media follow in lock step. To “proud to be white” I say today I am ashamed to be white.
