Bush’s Big Christmas Gift

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 18th December 2008

Michelle’a Holiday Picks!

If you would like to buy any of these, click on any book and you will be taken to Amazon.com.

Brave New Films does it again.  The ‘Psst…Do something!’ at the end of the film? Well this is me doing something by posting it onto my blog and telling all of you.

Bush’s Christmas gift to us is by making sure that he leaves this country as fucked up as posssible before he leaves his infamous 8-year term. And just how is he doing this? Well he can’t get his Christmas list of favors to his cronies through Congress so he’s jamming as many rules through his executive branch as he can to continue to fuck up this country as much as he can, making it even more challenging for our President Elect Obama and the people of this country to bring about the changes that we need.

‘Bush’s midnight regulations will allow factories to pollute more, further restrict women’s access to abortion services, cut off aid to needy families in the middle of a recession, and much more — all without Congress’ oversight or approval. It’s wrong, it’s antidemocratic, but, sadly, it’s legal.’

Happy New Year Everyone.

Can you tell I’m pissed? This shit economy is affecting everyone including me and quite frankly I’m sick of it. And I’m sure everyone else is too. People need jobs and money needs to be circulating. Our economy needs a face lift big time. Getting Obama into office isn’t enough. He’s going to be dealing with so much crap from Bush’s last minute end-run, how is he possibly going to clean up this mess?

Readers:  What’s going on here? Are you struggling too? We all hung in there together during the election…we can’t let the country fall to pieces before Obama even gets a chance.  We’ve lost our momentum and  we need to find it again. I admit, I have been out of it and in a fog myself dealing with my own shit, but the game isn’t over, and I’m back in. How about you? I still don’t have a lot of time on my hands and I’m sure you don’t either but the mood and the energy needs to change here. I know we worked our asses off and we all felt like we needed a breather…I know I did. But we can no longer rest on our laurels. Action needs to happen now, today, the only day that matters, not tomorrow.  Thoughts? Blog me.

Madaline: Where the fuck are you?  We need some Girl power.  Bush needs to be spanked – he’s been a naughty bad boy in a big bad way, and this santa baby wants to bend Bush over and give him a ‘lil present myself. Get my drift? Maddie, you need to check in with me now, here or on our private channel and throw out some ideas.   This mess needs to be cleaned up.

That’s all I’ve got time for today…

The Big ?…Bailout The Big 3?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 4th December 2008

I haven’t talked about the bailout for weeks or has it been months? No matter, it is on my mind today and big time….All I can say is every time I think about it in passing, I get pissed off. Just where is all of this bailout money going?  Where is the accountability here? And why before they gave Wall Street billions did they not demand accountability of all this money; the money that we the tax payers are going to have to fork out for who knows how long? I mean billions and billions of dollars….and where is it all going, and what for?

Now the Big 3: GM and those ‘other two’ want to be bailed out too. I feel for the Big 3 – no, not the Big wigs who are taking $1 salary for the year -Big deal. If the ‘ceos’ and the ‘coos’ and the ‘c-what-mess-you’ve-created-by-your-greeds’, don’t have a dime to fall back on after making millions over the years…well then tough luck Big guy. Oh..Boo hoo. I mean isn’t that what many are saying to those foreclosing on their homes?

No, I feel for the 3 million employees around the country who are stuck in the middle of it all. They are the everyday worker working for the Big 3. They had no choice when working what kind of cars they were hired to build. If their job was to build Hummers for GM, then they were gonna build Hummers for GM. No you can’t be angry at the blue collars, the ones who shower after work. (I just love that and no, I can’t claim that line :) No it is those sparkly clean shower-before-you-work, white collars who need a little ass kicking.

And isn’t it just interesting that GM is only worth $3 billion and yet they are asking for a whopping $18 Billion! Does this make sense? What idiot would loan a company way more than it is worth? Ah…our present powers that be.  If our government doesn’t see this as a bad business move then I don’t know what is.

Gee, I wish I could negotiate such a deal with my business. Do you think if I went to the bank and said that my company was only worth a certain amount but that I was asking for them to loan me 6 times what my company was worth, they would give it to me? Yeah, maybe if I bent over, lifted my skirt, and stuck my ass out…but somehow I don’t think GM is pulling down their pants and bending over. Nope, I wouldn’t get the loan – they would look at me like I was crazy. And if they gave it to me I would think they were. But hey, I’d be stupid to say no. Bottom line: Our government is considering giving it to the Big 3: GM and those ‘other two’.

So…what exactly do they need $18 billion for if they are only worth 3? Do ya think they are trying to cover up their fuck ups from the past decade plus, where they were losing billions on the manufacturing of gas-guzzlers? GM has never been known for building small fuel efficient cars – Nope, they have been going down for a long time but that didn’t stop them from building these tanks even when overseas car companies were moving in and successfully chipping away at their market share.

Nope…they continued in spite of the rising gas prices, and the fact that their vehicles are largely responsible for our decaying atmosphere and the melting of our polar ice caps.  But who cares? Hmmm…Do you suppose they were getting their cut from the oil companies?  Or support from the Bush boys?….remember Bush’s tax break for SUV’s? As usual greed took over.

So GM, Chrysler, and Ford, (the ‘other two’), are asking for a total of $34 billion. What exactly is this $34 Billion going towards?  I mean this is $34,000 million! A shitload of money when you break it down into millions. I want to know – don’t you? And initially they asked for $25 billion! – Hell, they don’t even know what they truly need to get them out of the hole that they dug and buried themselves in. Again, if I went to a bank and requested a certain amount and then up’d it, they would think, ‘Hmm…this person’s kinda stupid,’ and I would probably, once again, be denied a loan. I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel the larger the company grows and the more money they make, the less responsible, accountable, and the more dim-witted they become. Remember when anonz said he was drunk on money? Well, these Big 3 have been guzzling down the Big bucks and it has gone to their Big heads in a Bad way.

So..what to do?

Michael Moore was on MSNBC last night giving his two and I have to say, I like his proposal. Michael says, ‘This great, vast manufacturing network can redeem itself by building mass transit and electric/hybrid cars, and the kind of transportation we need for the 21st century.’ Here’s his plan – You tell me what you think.

  1. Transporting Americans is and should be one of the most important functions our government must address. And because we are facing a massive economic, energy and environmental crisis, the new president and Congress must do what Franklin Roosevelt did when he was faced with a crisis (and ordered the auto industry to stop building cars and instead build tanks and planes): The Big 3 are, from this point forward, to build only cars that are not primarily dependent on oil and, more importantly to build trains, buses, subways and light rail (a corresponding public works project across the country will build the rail lines and tracks). This will not only save jobs, but create millions of new ones.
  2. You could buy ALL the common shares of stock in General Motors for less than $3 billion. Why should we give GM $18 billion or $25 billion or anything? Take the money and buy the company! (You’re going to demand collateral anyway if you give them the “loan,” and because we know they will default on that loan, you’re going to own the company in the end as it is. So why wait? Just buy them out now.)
  3. None of us want government officials running a car company, but there are some very smart transportation geniuses who could be hired to do this. We need a Marshall Plan to switch us off oil-dependent vehicles and get us into the 21st century.

Hey, I think he has a good plan. In the 70′s, the national rail system was going down big time when the government stepped in and took over. A decade later it was a win win for all. The rail system was turning a profit so the government returned it to private/public hands, and got a couple billion dollars put back in the treasury. Cool.

The same thing could happen here; saving our industrial infrastructure as well as millions of jobs and create more jobs in the process. On the other hand GM says that if our government gave them 18 billion now, they would in turn eliminate 20,000 jobs. Ah…Hello – wake up! We are in a recession here – we need to create jobs, not eliminate them. Did I mention dim-witted? Geez…where is the logic?  How did these people rise to these positions? They need to be canned. Just my two…how about yours? Blog me.

‘My’ Universe Has Expanded

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 2nd December 2008

I watched the news last night for the first time in a week. I guess I haven’t been that out of it; just not that focused on it.  Then this morning I got an email from Barack…you know our President elect :) I like to think that it was to me personally (Ha!) wouldn’t that be cool?! but no…alas it was a video of him announcing whom he has named as his new national security team.

As I watched the  video, the same thoughts ran through my mind over and over….’We are at war with others on our own planet. Will we ever cease to be citizens of this country and citizens of that country, fighting each other for control of this planet earth, the planet that we all live and play and work on, or will we come together as one, end war and consider each other all world citizens with a common goal?  A world without war – what a concept.

It was then that it dawned on me that my universe has expanded. Ever since the aliens have spoken to us about other planets, ever since they have told their fascinating stories, our little planet seems so small in the big picture…our universe. I can understand why we are not considered in any way as more than a cattle planet when we can’t even traverse the universe. Hell….we don’t even know the true depths of our waters and ‘what lies beneath’, let alone have the ability to explore our solar system. We are primitive in a universal sense.

War…any type of war bothers me, but the fact that we all live and share this planet that currently we are pretty much stuck on, and we have the power struggles that we do, actually seems ridiculous to me.

We have this one planet for now, and it blows me away that the livelihood of our planet and its residents is second to the power and control that almost every country on this planet seeks. That focus is so strong and driven that it will be the detriment to us all. How silly it all is. No wonder we have been called ‘stupid’ so many times by those that visit and observe us.

When you look at the big picture of it all…when you look past our own little planet doesn’t it seem silly that we fight over such trivial things such as the possession of land? We are all living here; can’t we just share? And doesn’t it seem silly that we compare each other by the color of one’s skin, not to mention the difference in sex? We are all humans. When is this planet going to ‘grow up’ and take actions that matter – actions to preserve the one planet that we all share instead of acting like infantiles and destroying it?

And then I think, ‘What if we could traverse the universe?’ Yeah…maybe then we would come together as Earthlings and racism, sexism, etc. would cease to exist. But then what? War exists out there too between the many planets. This the aliens have told us. Would we then be just like the many aliens out there fighting for the control of planets instead of countries? Would it be the same but on a larger scale?

Hmmm…How does one avoid war? Maybe the ideal situation would be for us earthlings to just stay put on this planet, but come together harmoniously as world citizens, ending any need or desire for power and war. Let’s kill each other with love and laughter. I know…my optimism is showing.

Hmm…you know a place like Sweteno. I can dream can’t I?

Hi ZL:  Good to hear from you.  Love the gratitude attitude on your phone! How fun that must’ve been. Wise Words…Are They Words A President Should Heed?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 9th November 2008

Good morning…

I had heard about the letter that Alice Walker sent to Barack Obama, (did Obama not bring this up in one of his speeches?) but I had not read it till a friend of mine sent me a message on Facebook. I found it to be inspirational, written from the heart. I felt the care and concern, nurturing words; words that a mother might say to her son, and how appropriate since Obama’s Mother and Grandmother have passed.

I believe them to be wise words, but are they words…words a President should heed? What do you think? Do you think Alice’s advice to Obama is worth paying attention to?  I’m not interested in breaking down the letter and telling you my thoughts; I’m more interested in hearing yours. So, I posted the letter for your perusal. What to share your thoughts? Blog me.

An Open Letter to Barack Obama

By Alice Walker | TheRoot.com

Alice Walker on expectations, responsibilities and a new reality that is almost more than the heart can bear.

Nov. 5, 2008

Dear Brother Obama,

You have no idea, really, of how profound this moment is for us. Us being the black people of the Southern United States. You think you know, because you are thoughtful, and you have studied our history. But seeing you deliver the torch so many others before you carried, year after year, decade after decade, century after century, only to be struck down before igniting the flame of justice and of law, is almost more than the heart can bear. And yet, this observation is not intended to burden you, for you are of a different time, and, indeed, because of all the relay runners before you, North America is a different place. It is really only to say: Well done. We knew, through all the generations, that you were with us, in us, the best of the spirit of Africa and of the Americas. Knowing this, that you would actually appear, someday, was part of our strength. Seeing you take your rightful place, based solely on your wisdom, stamina and character, is a balm for the weary warriors of hope, previously only sung about.

I would advise you to remember that you did not create the disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule that permits sufficient time of rest and play with your gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. And so on. One gathers that your family is large. We are used to seeing men in the White House soon become juiceless and as white-haired as the building; we notice their wives and children looking strained and stressed. They soon have smiles so lacking in joy that they remind us of scissors. This is no way to lead. Nor does your family deserve this fate. One way of thinking about all this is: It is so bad now that there is no excuse not to relax. From your happy, relaxed state, you can model real success, which is all that so many people in the world really want. They may buy endless cars and houses and furs and gobble up all the attention and space they can manage, or barely manage, but this is because it is not yet clear to them that success is truly an inside job. That it is within the reach of almost everyone.

I would further advise you not to take on other people’s enemies. Most damage that others do to us is out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain religious or racial devotion. We must learn actually not to have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely. However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with which I often fought, “hate the sin, but love the sinner.” There must be no more crushing of whole communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a means of ruling a people’s spirit. This has already happened to people of color, poor people, women, children. We see where this leads, where it has led.

A good model of how to “work with the enemy” internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. And your smile, with which we watch you do gracious battle with unjust characterizations, distortions and lies, is that expression of healthy self-worth, spirit and soul, that, kept happy and free and relaxed, can find an answering smile in all of us, lighting our way, and brightening the world.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

In Peace and Joy,

Alice Walker

Well?

I’m waiting….

:)

michelle

Change Is Here

I woke up yesterday morning feeling an excitement in my gut, like it was Christmas. And I went to bed last night feeling like I was given the best present one could hope for in this day. And without sounding too melodramatic, because I could easily go there, that present was the gift of hope for our future and the future of this planet.

In spite of the issues at the polls from malfunctioning machines, to running out of ballots, voter suppression, and all of the corruption in between, the American people came together in unprecedented numbers and spoke loudly.  I am so grateful that we finally woke up and took serious actions in deciding how we wanted our future to be.

And thanks to Madaline, our words were heard and our check-marks, slashes, and punches marking Obama as the desired president were seen and correctly counted. And thanks to Madaline we all went to bed last night with victorious smiles spread across our faces…Change is Here.

Maddie:  I have no idea how you pulled it all off; I look forward to reading the AAR’s someday soon. But words can not express how grateful I am that you did. Through your exemplary efforts we got a huge landslide and coattails. As I said I had no doubt in you whatsoever or in your abilities. And I couldn’t be more delighted over the results.

As much as I loved your quote from the other day, I wanted to post it again with a slight change:

‘Take heart that the day has not yet come when a man can defeat the determined will of a GirlZ.’

I too say it with the firm belief that a GirlZ always gets the job done. Thank you.

Anonz: I can not leave you out of this equation. As I mentioned the other day, I don’t believe in coincidences; I believe that things happen for a reason. Just as I believe that you stumbled onto my blog for a reason. And that your profound experience with Nia has transformed you in ways that only you are aware of, leading you to do and say things that you most likely would not have done or said before. I am grateful to that little girl.

And although you may not have believed in Madaline’s abilities, the information that you confessed only fueled the fire inside of me, and without it…well let’s just say, ‘knowledge is powerful.’ And in this case, ‘more powerful than any amount of money.’ Thank you.  And, I will heed your suggestion.

Hi Guam: Thanks for the stats – I could not find the info yesterday morning. It looks like Guam was once again right on!

Mary, Connie and Carl:  Thanks for posting your issues at the polls – I am sure your experiences were just a few of many.

Dori, Mindy Shawn, and Lori: Thank you for the congrats – It has been a long and rewarding road to victory.

Doug and Zen Lill: Wow. Trippy huh? Thanks for your love and kind words.  So…What’s next? :)

Hello Readers:  Thank you for going out there and voting! – I know most of you are so thrilled over the results.  It is a time of celebration but it is also a time to continue to work hard.  President Obama ( I just love saying that!)  has his work cut out for him, but so do we.  This is just the beginning and I so look forward to the changes knowing that we have stepped up and are a force to be reckoned with.

Okay..I just have to add…being the fashion maven that I am…Didn’t ya just love how the Obama’s looked all dressed up in black and red? Yep, they wore red and took the red states! And Michelle looked stunning – so not the typical ‘first lady’ dress!

Comments? I’d love to hear about your celebratory evening – blog me.

Peace out…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle
