Wonderful Women Of The World

Good morning!

It is amazing to me that we actually need laws need to be put into place to protect women from abuse from men. It is a continual effort to support and protect women. Why? Because it is needed. Men abuse women. There are no laws that I know of that protect men from the abuse of women. So we go to great lengths because all across the country and the world, men abuse women. Now we all know it isn’t all men. But it is certainly enough that laws need to be passed to protect us.

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) passed in 1994, strengthens the ability of the Federal Government, States, law enforcement, and service providers to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

The new VAWA legislation has provisions that include protection and resources for all women, including undocumented immigrants, same-sex couples and those on tribal lands. Moreover, it would create a community that promotes education on how to prevent domestic violence.

Recently VAWA was brought to a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee. And guess what? The republicans remain the party of “no”. Every single Senate republican voted “no”.

And to add insult to injury, these Senators justified their votes based on purely ideological objections that should be set aside if we are truly serious and committed to aiding victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Thankfully we have a strong, wonderful woman of the world, on our side: Rep. Gwen Moore.

Julia: Thank you for sharing your life story, for being here with us, and for your kind words. You are an amazing, brave woman. I wish you and yours my very best. I dedicate today’s write to you:

Women Are Waiting…

I was molested as a child. There was no ominous stranger or dark alley. This abuse was perpetrated by someone I knew and by someone who knew me — a family friend. Sadly, these events of my youth would only be the beginning of a lifetime of experiences with abuse and violence.

When I was in high school — an ambitious young woman, very focused on my education — a young man joked with his friends and made a bet that he could “bed the egghead.” He took me out on what I thought was an innocent date with the boy that I liked, and when he got me alone, he forced himself on me. It was my 18th birthday. I don’t even think he thought it was wrong. He and his friends thought it was a rite of passage, nothing big. But it altered the course of my life.

These memories hold much pain and haunted me through many phases of my life. But it is partly through these experiences that I found my calling — to be an advocate for the many nameless, faceless and voiceless women and children who endure this abuse everyday throughout this country.

No mother, no sister, no child should ever have to suffer the physical, psychological and emotional abuse that I and so many others were forced to endure. Yet, each day there are hundreds that do. In fact, nearly one in five women in the United States has been sexually assaulted in her lifetime.

As legislators and as Members of Congress, it is our obligation to speak up for those who are being ignored in our society. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) does just that.

I spoke recently about what this Act would have done for me, had it been enacted before the time of my assault. This legislation, originally passed in 1994, strengthens the ability of the Federal Government, States, law enforcement, and service providers to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. The new VAWA legislation has provisions that include protection and resources for all women, including undocumented immigrants, same-sex couples and those on tribal lands. Moreover, it would create a community that promotes education on how to prevent domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a cancer that has infected our society, crossing all ethnic, socioeconomic and party lines. Protecting those victimized by domestic violence should never be a partisan issue. Yet as with many other pieces of common-sense legislation, this Congress has pushed this bill into partisan corners. Recently, when the Violence Against Women Act was brought to a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee, every single Senate Republican on that Committee voted “no.” And to add insult to injury, these Senators justified their votes based on purely ideological objections that should be set aside if we are truly serious and committed to aiding victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Thankfully, President Obama has recently taken action on this issue, directing federal agencies to develop policies for addressing domestic violence in the federal workforce. These policies will build on ongoing efforts of federal agencies to improve workplace safety, and outline steps employers can take to provide support and assistance to employees whose lives are affected by domestic violence.

It is time we stop playing partisan politics with the Violence Against Women Act. This is real life, with real women and real consequences. Until this Congress decides to take the safety of women, children and families seriously, our country will continue to spiral through a vicious circle of denial that will sadly only lead to more violence and abuse.

Women are waiting for this Congress to come together to pass this important legislation. Until that time, I along with my Democratic colleagues will continue to fight the good fight so that the Gwen Moores of this world no longer have to live in fear.

Good morning!

Romney is socially inept.

Mitt Romney Asks If Pennsylvania Bakery’s Cookies Were Made At 7-Eleven

Mitt Romney drew some criticism during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania on Tuesday for comments he made about one bakery’s cookies.

According to CNN:

The small town stir began Tuesday at a community center event when Romney paused to take note of the desserts while sitting down at a picnic table.

“I’m not sure about these cookies. They don’t look like you made them,” Romney said to the woman sitting next to him. “No, no. They came from the local 7-eleven, bakery, or whatever.”

The cookies were actually donated to the event by Bethel Bakery, a popular local business. The comment quickly echoed through area news outlets and social media, according to the Wall Street Journal. Residents were not pleased.

The episode probably won’t help ease the image of Romney as an out-of-touch multimillionaire, a perception he has struggled to combat for years. Still, a bakery spokeswoman said she believed Romney’s comment was meant in good humor:

I’m sure he meant it all in jest and didn’t mean to slam a local bakery. It’s nothing that we want to get really upset about it, no reason to be angry. We’re just having fun with it.

The bakery’s owner, John Walsh, seemed less forgiving in an interview with WTAE:

“When I heard it, I thought, ‘Oh, my goodness. This guy has no idea how beloved this institution is that provided these cookies’ … We wanted him to be welcomed with the best in the burgh, and he had no idea.”

Walsh also quipped to the Wall Street Journal, “Let him eat cake next time,” linking Romney to Marie Antoinette yet again.

The bakery, for its part, is using the incident to drive sales, offering a “CookieGate” special where customers can buy a dozen of the stackable items to get a half-dozen on the house.

******

Readers: I don’t know. I saw that interview with the owner, John Walsh, on the  Lawrence O’Donnell show. Although he said he was shocked he seemed pretty forgiving to me – The owner said, “The comment he made was, simple naive; an ice breaker. He (Romney) made a mistake and we would love to have him come back….” Hmm…

Helen: I wanted to respond to you. With respect to Glen’s apology and your opinion, I am going to  change my mind and defer to you. I will accept his apology on the face of it. Of course I can’t talk for Zen Lill, but as far as I am concerned I can see that there is merit to giving the person the benefit of the doubt. With no other actions by him showing me to believe otherwise, I apologize.

Thank you Helen for standing up for your opinion. I like a strong woman who has a strong opinion. You additional comment backed up your first comment with something solid and logical. So thank you for getting on this girl.

Additionally,  I might add,  just because I don’t voice an opinion on everything Zen Lill says, doesn’t mean I agree with or disagree with her on everything she posts.

Correction 9:00 AM: I posted this morning and realized now that my choice of words were not sound. I meant to say that I cannot “speak” for Zen Lill. And that the apology was not made to me, therefore,  ”I” cannot accept an apology for someone else. Please forgive my bad grammar.  Additionally, Glen: I made a mistake. I am not making an excuse, but I realize my initial opinion may have been skewed and not well thought out before I posted it. Perhaps you felt somewhat the same way. Please forgive me.

Blog News:

For at least a week, starting today, I am going to be off-line with respect to my blog. I will most likely pre-post a weeks worth of blog entries ahead of time so they will automatically post on their scheduled day. I may or may not be able to read the comments. If you need to address me for any reason, please be patient, I will be responding after the 27th, unless of course, I feel the dire need to do so beforehand.

That being said, this will not affect any of you being able to comment “as usual”.  I will miss you. I wish all of you a Beautiful Week and Happy Blogging!

Peace out.

Romney aka “Mr. ________” – What do you call him?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 18th April 2012

Good morning!

I pulled this write from Maddow’s Blog this morning. Although Romney is Mr. Secrecy, it isn’t exactly the name I would call him. I can’t help it but ever time I see him the only word that comes to mind is “sleazy”…well not the only word...LSOS is another. So…If I was the writer of this write I might call the title “A growing interest in Mr. Sleazy”.  What do you call him?

A growing interest in Mr. Secrecy

  -
Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:27 AM EDT

Mitt Romney appears rather desperate to shield his tax returns from public scrutiny. He hasthe materials — when Romney was considered for John McCain’s 2008 ticket, the former governor turned over 23 years worth of returns — he just doesn’t want to share the materials.

The Romney campaign, however, has a new line it hopes will put a stop to the questions. Ed Gillespie told Fox News the other day, “In 2004, John Kerry as a Democratic presidential nominee, released two years of tax returns. In 2012, Governor Romney will release two years.” Romney himself repeated this on CNBC yesterday, saying, “John Kerry released two years of taxes.”

The problem, of course, is that the talking point isn’t true. Judd Legum explained that Kerry, by the time of his 2004 presidential campaign, had actually released 20 years of tax returns.

Romney was only off by a factor of 10.

The larger point, however, is that Romney’s secretive habits and desire to keep relevant details out of public view are opening up a new vulnerability that Democrats seem eager to target: his penchant for secrecy. The Democratic National Committee released this video on Tuesday, asking “what else” Romney might be hiding.

If it were just the tax returns, it’d be problematic enough, but Romney appears to haveestablished a pattern that leaves him vulnerable: he bought the hard drives from his term as governor so he could hide emails from the public; he’s hiding the names of his fundraising bundlers from the public; he’s keeping details of his policy agenda hidden from the public until after the election, etc.

These moves don’t exactly inspire trust in the presumptive Republican nominee.

For its part, there’s a Republican response to this: Obama is going after Romney’s religion. No, seriously.

Alec MacGillis flagged a report from Mike Allen’s Playbook, in which he quoted an unnamed Republican pushing back against accusations surrounding Romney’s secrecy.

“These are exactly the kind of questions we asked about Obama in 2008 and were accused of race baiting, or suggesting he was somehow un-American. Now they ask it: What’s his secret? It does seem like they are going after the Mormonism, right? I’d do the same thing if I was them. But we were never up on our high horse about better angels and hope and change and all that B.S.”

Allen’s report also quoted an unnamed LDS member:

“[T]his is a way to talk about Romney’s Mormonism without appearing to be attacking his religion…. Because, isn’t Mormonism some mysterious cult involving secret temple rites and strange undergarments? And it just happens to dovetail with some minor points on offshore accounts, but I think the message between the lines is clear.”

I have to admit, I didn’t see this one coming. If Democrats notice that Romney is keeping his tax returns hidden, and he purchased 17 state-issued hard drives, purging the Romney administration’s email records in advance of his presidential campaign, this is all part of an elaborate scheme to talk about … Mormons?

Someone’s going to have to explain this one to me.

My sincere hope is that we won’t reach the point at which every criticism of Romney leads to shrieks from Republicans saying, “See? They’re attacking his faith!” This kind of response to legitimate and secular inquiries is cheap, lazy, and wrong.

*S*L*E*A*Z*Y*

Readers: That is certainly something to HOPE for, but is there any question this is exactly what the republicans will do? We already know, the “party of no”,  that shout “ABO!” (Anybody but Obama!) will stoop as low as they can go.

Blog me.

Anonz: Thank you for always keeping us informed. Let’s HOPE the president is reading too.

Lucia: Did I say the republicans will stoop as low as they can go? And evidently the Secret Service are not above taking bribes.

So much for the SS honoring their secrecy. I have a hard time believing that all of the SS were bribed and bragging, but it doesn’t surprise me that the ones who weren’t, if any, didn’t say, “Shut the fuck up” to the others or just separate themselves from the scene. But you know how the big head can overrule the little head. It doesn’t matter now. Whether you were bribed, bragging, or not, they’re all busted.

All I can say is “Where is the loyalty? What happened to respecting and protecting president Obama and the well-being of our country?” It seems all you need to do is toss around a few million bucks to the greedy and you can say goodbye to loyalty and country.

JD: Intelligence can’t be taught…you got it or your don’t and JD…DON’T.

Je: Love it.

Helen: With respect to Glen’s apology, I have to agree with Zen Lill. That is the problem these days, men apologize for the horrific things they say and do after, and only after, they are scolded, and women such as yourself, read it as genuine and accept it.  If no one said anything, would Glen have apologized? I doubt it. He would’ve figured he got away with it because he did…and then guess what? He would behave like this all over again. When will this stop? Men get away with this sort of thing all of the time because women such as yourself accept their apologies as sincere.

I don’t. In my opinion, his true thoughts came bursting out with very little care about what he was typing out. He could’ve re-read what he wrote before he hit the comment button, sending it out for all to see. But he didn’t. If he really didn’t mean it then he shouldn’t have written it. Why would you write such a nasty thing to a woman if you didn’t mean it? Why? Because men get away with this kind of thing all of the time.

Treating women with disrespect is the normal on this planet. And when men apologize for it after they’ve been scolded, and it is accepted by certain women, all that does is make light of the nasty comment. Like it was no big deal. It is a big deal. And unacceptable. When women stop putting up with such bad behavior by men, and start standing up for their sisters, and not buy the BS apologies by men, perhaps things will then change for women.

Peace & Love.

Michele Bachmann: LSOS

Good morning!

With all of the talk abut women’s contraception, what should be available, what should not, what rights we have over our bodies, what is trying to be taken away, and who is trying to control women and our decisions over our bodies…I can’t exactly point to any republican, including the women, and especially including Rep. Michele Bachmann, (R-Minn), as a supporter of women, when their whole agenda is to control women and take away our right to choose.

So when I watched Bachmann arguing with a straight face in support of a woman’s right to choose, on Meet the Press, my mouth dropped in amazement.

“What we want is women to be able to make their own choices…. You see, that’s the lie that happens under Obamacare. The president of the United States effectively becomes a health care dictator. Women don’t need anyone to tell them what to do on health care. We want women to have their own choices, their own money. That way they can make their own choices for their future on their own bodies.”

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

********

ReadersMichele Bachmann is saying she and her party want American women to be able to “make their own choices for the future of their own bodies.”  She is a far-right republican who opposes women’s reproductive rights, and here she is speaking passionately, and falsely might I add, as if she is in support of women and their right to choose, live on television.

Where has this woman been? Has Bachmann not a clue about her party’s plan, or has she been lying under a rock and just decided yesterday to peek her size-of-a-pea-brained head out? Because if she was lucid she would know that her party pushes to restrict contraception access, and wants to get rid of Planned Parenthood. Does she not know that her party supports transvaginal ultrasounds – basically state-sanctioned rape! Of course she knows. Talk about a false betrayal – Bachmann is displaying false loyalty - Bachmann is a lying sack of shit.

If I have not welcomed Bachman as a member of the LSOS Club, let me do that now.

Anything to say – Blog me.

Peace out.

Wonderful Women Of The World

Good morning!

So how is everyone doing? It’s Wednesday and I thought not only will I recognize a Wonderful Woman Of The World (WWOTW), but a little humor to start off my morning (for some of you it will be early afternoon, but hey, any time of the day is a good time to laugh), was in order.

I am a big fan of Hillary Clinton. More so now as the years have gone by and I have witnessed her growing badass attitude – and I mean that all in a good way. Don’t you just love how she has come into her power? I am cheering her for all of her accomplishments and all that she does for women around the world.

Today while perusing the net, I came upon this write on the Huff Po that just made my morning a bit brighter, not to mention “LOLZ”:

Hillary Clinton Thanks ‘Texts From Hillary’ Guys For The ‘LOLZ’

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton took a few minutes away from her texting (and all her other duties as secretary of state) and met with the two guys who have turned her into the latest Internet meme.

In less than a week, the blog “Texts from Hillary” has become an online sensation, boosting Clinton’s public image in the process. As Benjy Sarlin of TPM wrote, “When she was running for the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton was parodied as drab and calculated, especially compared with young and vigorous Barack Obama and winking and fresh-faced Sarah Palin. Now, she’s fueling Internet jokes based on her own brand of badass cool.”

Stacy Lambe and Adam Smith, the two guys behind the site, said they received an email from a member of Clinton’s staff on Monday afternoon, out of the blue.

“We didn’t even believe it at first,” said Smith. “Stacy and I IMed each other at the same time, basically saying, ‘Oh my god, this email!’”

The staffer invited them over to the State Department, saying the secretary loved the site and wanted to meet them. Her staff also submitted Clinton’s own idea for a post to the site, which went up on Tuesday. In it, Clinton calls out Smith and Lambe for their creation (and makes a scrunchie joke).

Smith said that the submission was from Clinton herself — although she may have had some help on it — and that they talked about it with her at the meeting. She told them that her favorite post was the one with Ryan Gosling.

“Her staff is a delight,” said Lambe. “Everybody was really nice and really excited about what’s happened over the past few days. Of course, Hillary Clinton thought it was hilarious and had a good laugh and was very nice and welcome — and very generous to take a few minutes of her time to take some photos with us.”

In fact, Clinton suggested that the three of them pose in the photos with their blackberries, checking their text messages. She even whipped out her famous sunglasses.

“I would just say that her meeting with us proves the point that we were trying to make with the site,” said Smith.

Clinton also gave each of them signed copies of her “Texts from Hillary” submission.

Smith’s signed copy, on which Clinton signed her name “Hillz”:

Readers: If I haven’t said it here before, I will say it again, “Hillary Clinton is definitely a WWOTW. And no doubt, “Hillz” in my mind, has all the attributes of being considered a “Girlz“.

Zen Lill: Sorry, I don’t have it the original e-mail anymore. But I give you permission to drag the photo off of my blog if you want to repost it.

Rufus: My thoughts exactly. Well…not exactly but the scenario and end result is the same. Hit ‘em where it hurts. And it hurts when the laws they fought to put in action, fights back at their own.

Kenny: I liked your rant.

Oscar: Like I said, “Hit ‘em where it hurts”.

Erica, Nancy: I have something to say with respect to your comments. I am not saying that Oscar or any other OTW should go out and look for trouble, or target whites racially, just so they can kill at will And I am not speaking for Oscar, but I don’t think Oscar is thinking that way either.

But I also think that if human beings really did resolve their issues with non violence first and foremost before resorting to violence, we wouldn’t be living in such a violent world, and a insane law such as “Stand Your Ground”, basically a “license to kill”, wouldn’t have been legislated in the first place.

It’s a nice thought, and I agree with you, if we all thought the same, but unfortunately many people don’t.  So tell that to all of the racists out there who can’t see past the color of an OTW’s skin. Trayvon was asking why he was being followed, begging for his life, and Zimmerman hunted him down like animal after his prey, and shot him dead.

There was no issue to resolve – at least not one that could be resolved. The issue was, the boy was black. Period. Not something that could be resolved. Trayvon can’t change the color of his skin. The fact is:  ”You are black, I don’t like you; I want you dead”.

So yes, I repeat, it is a nice thought but tell that to all of the families of the black boys and men who get killed, and no jUStice is done.

Violence isn’t the best answer and not one that I promote to resolve an issue. But when it comes to a matter of saving your life, and the other person doesn’t see you as an equal human being, and threatens you, sometimes violence is the only answer. And you had better be prepared and protect yourself just in case you are in such a situation, where there is no “resolving of issues in a nice way”…or you might end up dead.

In my opinion, unless OTW’s “stand their ground” and do something, this insanity will continue and people like Zimmeman are going to walk away scott free, while black boys lay dead in the streets, soon to be forgotten like the many.

I wrote this a few weeks ago and I still stand by my words:

I wish that Trayvon Martin’s murder was the last of these heinous crimes against young black boys and really any OTW, but it would only be HOPEful thinking, because I so strongly want things to change…for Trayvon’s murder to be a reminder of all the murders of black boys such as Trayvon that have come before him, and the impetus to stop the murders of black boys in the future.

Hmm..It makes me think. If I were an OTW who lived in “stand your ground” states, I would go get myself a gun. And if anyone got in my face, and threatened me in my space calling me a nigger, wetback, (what are those other names you use George, WN?) while invading my legal non-retreating space, I would “stand my ground”, pull out my gun and shoot. And if I  killed the offender, he would not be there to answer otherwise. But I would only do it if I felt threatened. I would not break the law and do it just because I didn’t like white folks. Of course, we all know, if enough white people got killed, the law would change in the proverbial hot minute. Then and only then.

“See Jane notice all of the Senators running down to the legislative house to change that law.”

Well, I wanted to keep it light and humorous but I just had to say something.  I’m done – your turn.  Oops I see many of you blogged this morning already.  I guess I better post asap. :) Blog me.

Robert, RT: Miss seeing you here – wha’at’s up?
