Robert: I love the way you break it all down. How I wish the republicans that read here get it. My sense is, if they are as stupid as you show them to be, they won’t. But still, there is always HOPE. Keep it coming.

Douglas: What you posted was so shocking to me I had to find the writeand read it. And read it I did. The bombshell didn’t stop there. Here’s another little segment that you didn’t post that I think is worth blogging.

The Shabab and other militant Islamist groups in Somalia have become famous for their zeal in enforcing their strict interpretation of Islamic purity. Last year, the Shabab outlawed school bells in a southern Somalia town after deciding that they sounded too much like church bells. The Shabab have also banned bras, gold teeth, dancing and soccer, deeming them un-Islamic, and barred many Western aid groups, even though Somalia is suffering from a famine and tens of thousands of people have already starved to death.

Another militant Somali group, Hizbul Islam, ordered radio stations to stop playing music, which forced broadcasters to eliminate even the faintest suggestion of harmonious sounds from their daily programming. Some stations substituted the musical introductions to news broadcasts with the sounds of gunshots, engine roars, car horns and animal grunts.

From the desk Of Anonz: I thought Peter’s comments were interesting. Yours takes it to a whole other level.  It is always illuminating what you write here. I’ll ask you to keep it coming as well.

PrP: I too HOPE that your wishes are answered, and if they have been already, I HOPE you were in bliss.  :)

Laura: Love your play on words.

Peace out.

Good morning!

Doug: You’re voting with the party that doesn’t support you. If you are so concerned about “your rights”  and “your peeps”, it makes absolutely no sense to vote republican, when they could care less about you and your rights. You obviously watch FOX noise or you would know just how much Obama has done for this country. For one thing, he stood up for “your peeps” and repealed DADT. Or does that not matter to you, honey? Toss your word salad with “fact-free” dressing along with your hatred of the “brown party”, and be thankful that Obama doesn’t feel as you do  by saying, “Who wants to support gays when they are not representative of this country?”

Here’s what the republicans think about “your peeps”:

Republican Debate Audience Boos Gay Soldier Stephen Hill After DADT Repeal Question (VIDEO)

During the Republican debate Thursday night, host Megyn Kelly dropped a YouTube clip on Rick Santorum: a question from Stephen Hill, a soldier in Iraq who, up until this week, had to “lie about who [he] was” in order to serve in the army.

Santorum provided Hill no succor, saying that the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” injected “social engineering” into the military.

SANTORUM: I would say any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military. The fact they are making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to, and removing don’t ask don’t tell. I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And the military’s job is to do one thing: to defend our country…KELLY: What would you do with soldiers like Stephen Hill?

SANTORUM: What we are doing is playing social experimentation with our military right now. That’s tragic. I would just say that going forward we would reinstitute that policy if Rick Santorum was president. That policy would be re-instituted as far as people in, I would not throw them out because that would be unfair to them because of the policy of this administration. But we would move forward in conformity with what was happening in the past. Which was- sex is not an issue. It should not be an issue. Leave it alone. Keep it to yourself whether you are heterosexual or homosexual.

Of course, the big news of the exchange will once again be about an audience reaction. After Fox cut back from the clip of Hill, several members of the audience were heard, in a shocking demonstration of disrespect for one of our soldiers, lustily booing him. Very sad.

Sidenote: Fred Karger responded to that exchange by telling the Huffington Post, “Santorum is truly nuts. Just Google him. Congress repealed DADT. Federal court found it unconstitutional.”

UPDATE: After the debate, Talking Points Memo reporter Evan McMorris-Santoro caught up with Jon Huntsman. When asked about the incident, Huntsman said the booing was “unfortunate.” McMorris-Santoro also talked to a Perry representative, who used similar language, calling it “very unfortunate.”

Furthermore, the Koch brothers went from being worth 34 billion to now being worth 50 Billion. Did that create more jobs? No. Here’s another little tidbit you probably won’t find on FOX: “Quarter’s profits point to a record.” …”The more money they make, the fewer Americans they employ.” Look at the graph below or watch this video from the Rachel Maddow show. Segment on Koch Net Worth VS. Employment starts @ 7:08.

I Can’t Afford A Tax Hike

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 21st September 2011

Good morning!

John Fleming, GOP Congressman, Blasts Obama Over Buffett Rule: I Can’t Afford A Tax Hike

Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) appeared on MSNBC Monday morning to express opposition to President Barack Obama’s deficit reduction plan, which includes a proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy.

Fleming charged that the plan is a terrible idea which kills jobs provided by wealthy “job creators” who pay personal income taxes. When asked about his business ventures — including his role in a number of Subway restaurants and UPS stores — from which he earned $6.3 million last year, Fleming told MSNBC host Chris Jansing that his business expenses left him with little to tax “by the time I feed my family.”

Fleming told Jansing that the $6.3 million is “before you pay 500 employees, you pay rent, you pay equipment and food.”

“The actual net income of that was a mere fraction of that amount.”

“By the time I feed my family, I have maybe $400,000 left over,” Fleming said.

Jansing pointed out that to a person making $40,000or $50,000 per year, making $400,000 annually is “not exactly a sympathetic position,” but Fleming responded by calling his success a “virtue” and noting that “class warfare has never created a job.”

“This is all about creating jobs,” Fleming said. “This is not about attacking people who make certain incomes.”

************

Helloooo…What about the people that are saying, “I can’t afford to pay rent”? Or “I can’t even afford to put food in my children’s mouths”? And that my friends, is why this country will go to shit in the proverbial handbasket, if Obama’s Jobs Bill doesn’t pass, and we end up with a republican president.  Hint: We’re on our way there if we don’t do something. Thoughts? Blog me.

Juanita:  I give you the same answer that I gave to Irene a few days ago. But perhaps this is even a better explanation.  This comes from a reader, Anonz. And I think he said it best, so I will reprint his words:

I can now buy any candidate in either House. I can influence any law to my benefit. I can influence you and most americans to believe what I wish about any issue. Your crooked Supreme Court gave me the right to spend any amount of money to influence the passage or any issue.

Criticizing me may make you feel good, but it has no affect on anything I do. Voting to eliminate the people who keep the likes of me from being regulated would be effective in stopping me from profiting at your expense.

But I have no fear of that because you secretly envy the money and power I have. You dream of being one of us, so you allow us to have unfettered access to to the profit trough.

Sure I have more money that I will every be able to spend, but if you are too stupid to regulate me, and too stupid to make me pay my fair share of taxes, and if you continue to allow me to set up corporations with all the rights of a living person, I WILL CONTINUE TO GET RICHER AT YOUR EXPENSE.

And unfortunately, I will continue to brag, boast, be in your face about your STUPIDITY. Deciding whether to rant against me or to vote against me will determine whether you will wise up or remain a mat for me to wipe my feet on as I stroll to that feeding trough.

What more needs to be said? We can rant about the republicans, or we can wise up and vote them out of office. The choice is ours.

Caroline: A second term is what I’m working on. Like I said, Let’s break and make history. I HOPE things start getting better for you.

Brooke: When I think of how the state of our country would be without Obama as our president, it think that exact sentiment:  ”Thank God for Obama.”

Reborn: Your feelings are thought by many women all over the world. You decided to not accept the emptiness and had the courage to leave. Congratulations. I HOPE the best for you.

Peace & Love…

Class Warfare?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 19th September 2011

Bookmark and Share

How hypocritical. The republicans are calling taxing the rich “class warfare” when they have been doing this kind of “class warfare” all along to the middle class, and let me remind you, while the very rich and corporations get cushy tax breaks.  Doug and I talked about this last night and I read this article, this morning. It seems we weren’t the only ones up on this news.

Paul Ryan, Herman Cain Push For Tax Increases On Middle Class

WASHINGTON — Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said on Sunday that House Republicans would oppose President Barack Obama’s payroll tax cuts for both employers and employees, arguing that the policy had already failed to provide a sufficient boost to the economy. “It hasn’t worked,” Ryan said, suggesting the current temporary tax cut should be allowed to expire, which will amount to a 50 percent tax hike on workers making less than $106,000 per year.

He also said he opposes the president’s proposal to require millionaires to pay the same tax rate as the middle class, known as the Buffett plan. “Class warfare might make for good politics, but it makes for rotten economics,” Ryan said.

As chairman of the House Budget Committee and the author of a long-term plan that radically alters Medicare and slashes tax rates for the wealthy as well as social spending, Ryan serves as something of an economic spokesman for House Republicans.

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain, who followed Ryan on “Fox News Sunday,” seconded his opposition to the tax on millionaires as well as the payroll tax cut extensions. “It’s too little, too late,” said Cain.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), appearing later on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” said he too would oppose taxing millionaires at a higher rate, citing Obama’s own comments from 2010, when the president argued that taxes shouldn’t be raised during rough economic times. “I think what he said then still applies,” McConnell said, insisting that small businesses would be hurt by such a tax plan.

As for the namesake of the Buffett plan, McConnell said that if billionaire investor Warren Buffett feels like he’s not paying his fair share, “he should send us a check.”

“If Warren Buffett would like to give up some of his benefits, we’d be happy to talk about that,” McConnell said, suggesting his benefits be means-tested.

Ryan, while backing a payroll tax hike, nevertheless said that tax hikes cannot be part of the deficit-cutting proposal that the super committee comes up with. As part of his explanation, Ryan made it clear that he sees no difference between raising taxes proactively and allowing tax breaks to expire. “You already have a $1.5 trillion tax increase coming in 2013,” he said, referring to the expiration of the Bush tax cuts that were extended by President Obama for two years. Ryan’s reference to the expiration as an “increase” gives greater weight to his willingness to let tax cuts for the middle class expire.

Because of the looming Bush tax cut expiration, said Ryan, the super committee should eschew tax hikes. “Why on earth would we go with that, especially when the problem is spending?” he said.

“You’re basically saying there’s going to be no bargain, no compromise,” host Chris Wallace pointed out.

“Clearly, Democrats could work with us” and get $1.5 trillion in spending cuts with no additional revenue, Ryan said. “That shouldn’t be that tough.”

As for the budgetary woes outside Washington, Ryan said, “We just don’t think we should be bailing out state governments.” He added, “That’s the constitutional responsibility of state governments, not federal governments.”

Former President Bill Clinton, appearing on CBS’s “Face The Nation,” backed Obama’s tax hike on millionaires, but suggested that the singular focus should be on job creation, with tax increases on the wealthy coming once the economy improves. “I don’t have any objection to talking about it now,” said Clinton. “Whether it’s good politics or not, it’s an honorable thing to do.”

Clinton urged passage of the payroll tax cut extension and the creation of an infrastructure bank to fund investments. He also hit at the major drag on the economy. “I don’t believe America can return to the full employment days of the ’90s until we can clear this bank debt from the mortgage crisis,” he said.

**********

Human Events:. Please… “No hope, no cash”. How quickly the republicans forget that it was their party that got us into this mess…it was their party that raised the deficit after Clinton cleared it, and we had a booming economy.  Only stupid people would buy that line of crap. But then, there are a lot of stupid people.  I wish you would just leave my blog alone. Not many of your peeps hang here. And if they do, they are a changin’. But like Patricia said,  ”…this kind of exposure permits all of us to see the world in its true light.” How true that is….keep a bloggin’.

Wendy: I think Herman and  Robert made some good points with respect to Obama. And I hear your frustration. But let’s not cut off your nose to spite your face. It is the fact that voters gave the house back to the republicans last November, and now they’re in the driver’s seat. So if Obama won’t get your support, who will you be giving it to? Do you really want to vote for a republican president over Obama? I’m sorry but that is so illogical. This is the kind of thing that Robert is talking about when he says that “Democrats have a long history of not giving their presidents a second term.” Let’s break history and ensure Obama a second term. If a republican gets in, you can kiss our country goodbye.

And on that note, I’ll throw out a kiss and say goodbye as well….

Peace Out

Pass This Bill

Good morning!

The other night I saw an ad for the Ed Show and Ed was saying how “he needed two shows”, basically because there is so much to talk about. Sometimes I feel the same way  - there are just too many important things to write about and one blogging once a day can’t possibly cover them all. Thankfully you, my savvy readers, cover the topics that I can’t always cover or have not heard about (yet :) My blog is so informative, thanks to many of you, and I am so grateful that all of you are here with me on a daily basis. Oh…I just thought I would throw out some gratitude before I posted my topic for the day.

jobs, Jobs, JOBS, have been on my mind. No doubt “jobs” are on the minds of many of my readers as well. So I decided to peruse the White House website to see just what this American Jobs Bill offers so that I could inform all of you just in case, you like me, don’t know all of the facts. Well…here they are:

The American Jobs Act President Obama’s Plan to Create Jobs Now

1. TAX CUTS TO HELP AMERICA’S SMALL BUSINESSES HIRE AND GROW

Cutting the payroll tax cut in half for 98 percent of businesses: The President’s plan will cut in half the taxes paid by businesses on their first $5 million in payroll, targeting the benefit to the 98 percent of firms that have payroll below this threshold.

A complete payroll tax holiday for added workers or increased wages: The President’s plan will completely eliminate payroll taxes for firms that increase their payroll by adding new workers or increasing the wages of their current worker (the benefit is capped at the first $50 million in payroll increases).

Extending 100% expensing into 2012: This continues an effective incentive for new investment.

Reforms and regulatory reductions to help entrepreneurs and small businesses access capital.

2. PUTTING WORKERS BACK ON THE JOB WHILE REBUILDING AND MODERNIZING AMERICA

• A “Returning Heroes” hiring tax credit for veterans: This provides tax credits from $5,600 to $9,600 to encourage the hiring of unemployed veterans.

• Preventing up to 280,000 teacher layoffs, while keeping cops and firefighters on the job. • Modernizing at least 35,000 public schools across the country, supporting new science labs, Internet-

ready classrooms and renovations at schools across the country, in rural and urban areas.

• Immediate investments in infrastructure and a bipartisan National Infrastructure Bank, modernizing our roads, rail, airports and waterways while putting hundreds of thousands of workers back on the job.

• A New “Project Rebuild”, which will put people to work rehabilitating homes, businesses and communities, leveraging private capital and scaling land banks and other public-private collaborations.

• Expanding access to high-speed wireless as part of a plan for freeing up the nation’s spectrum.

3. PATHWAYS BACK TO WORK FOR AMERICANS LOOKING FOR JOBS

• The most innovative reform to the unemployment insurance program in 40 years: As part of an extension of unemployment insurance to prevent 5 million Americans looking for work from losing their benefits, the President’s plan includes innovative work-based reforms to prevent layoffs and give states greater flexibility to use UI funds to best support job-seekers, including:

› Work-Sharing: UI for workers whose employers choose work-sharing over layoffs.

› A new “Bridge to Work” program: The plan builds on and improves innovative state programs where those displaced take temporary, voluntary work or pursue on-the-job training.

› Innovative entrepreneurship and wage insurance programs: States will also be empowered to implement wage insurance to help reemploy older workers and programs that make it easier for unemployed workers to start their own businesses.

• A $4,000 tax credit to employers for hiring long-term unemployed workers.

• Prohibiting employers from discriminating against unemployed workers when hiring.

• Expanding job opportunities for low-income youth and adults through a fund for successful approaches for subsidized employment, innovative training programs and summer/year-round jobs for youth.

4. TAX RELIEF FOR EVERY AMERICAN WORKER AND FAMILY

• Cutting payroll taxes in half for 160 million workers next year: The President’s plan will expand the payroll tax cut passed last year to cut workers payroll taxes in half in 2012 – providing a $1,500 tax cut to the typical American family, without negatively impacting the Social Security Trust Fund.

• Allowing more Americans to refinance their mortgages at today’s near 4 percent interest rates, which can put more than $2,000 a year in a family’s pocket.

5. FULLY PAID FOR AS PART OF THE PRESIDENT’S LONG-TERM DEFICIT REDUCTION PLAN.

To ensure that the American Jobs Act is fully paid for, the President will call on the Joint Committee to come up with additional deficit reduction necessary to pay for the Act and still meet its deficit target. The President will, in the coming days, release a detailed plan that will show how we can do that while achieving the additional deficit reduction necessary to meet the President’s broader goal of stabilizing our debt as a share of the economy.

**********

Readers: I only posted the facts because although I realize everyone is busy, we all should know the benefits so that we can support our president, and fight for this bill to be passed. The more informed we are the more we can inform those who are too lazy to get involved…to lazy to do something and support those who really need this bill to be passed. Many of you may have a job but many Americans don’t and they need your support now more than ever.

These are just the facts about the American Jobs Act. There is so much more to read including the Complete Jobs Act, if you really want to know the details. One can even look at the American Jobs Act, state by state, if you want to know what this act will do for the people in your home state. Or if you’re just interested in seeing what this act will do for schools, you can find that out too. To read all that I have mentioned and more, click here.

I just want to end by saying “Get involved”. Our country is in dire need , and our president needs our support. Have you called your representative and Congress, telling them how much you too support Obama to get this bill passed? Obama has repeatedly called on Americans to call, tweet, fax…whatever it takes to get your message to Congress. And to date, he hasn’t gotten enough of a response.

Now I’m asking you to do the same. I’ve made it easy.  All you have to do is look over to the lefthand column of my blog where it says:

“Contact Your Representatives and Senators Here!”

Please contact them. Do it. Thank you.

Peace & Love…
