I Am For Sale, Who Will Buy Me?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 3rd January 2010

I am always so grateful for the internet…for people to be able to speak their voice, their concerns, their thoughts….and no matter how much it happens these days, when something is brought to my attention that I may have never seen, I am once again so grateful that the internet is a tool that brings content home, no matter where one lives.

I just was turned onto this story written by an anonymous Afghan woman on a website called Afghan Women’s Writing Project.

The project began “…as an idea during novelist Masha Hamilton’s last trip to Afghanistan in November 2008. Her interest in Afghanistan was sparked in the late 1990s during the Taliban period, when she understood it was one of the worst places in the world to be a woman. Masha first visited the country in 2004, and was awed and inspired by the resolute courage of the women she met. When she returned, she saw doors were closing and life was again becoming more difficult, especially for women. She began to fear we could lose access to the voices of Afghan women if we didn’t act soon. The Afghan Women’s Writing Project is aimed at allowing Afghan women to have a direct voice in the world, not filtered through male relatives or members of the media. Many of these Afghan women have to make extreme efforts to gain computer access in order to submit their writings, in English, to the project.”

The most recent story, as I mentioned was written by an anonymous Afghan woman. As noted by the blog:  This is only the second anonymous piece we have run on the blog. We encourage our participants to claim their own stories, but in this case, the writer felt she could only safely share this if she did so anonymously.

Here is her story:

I Am For Sale, Who Will Buy Me?

I used to think big. When I was six, I made my mom let me go to school, and I loved it. My father told me: “If you stay at the top of your class until the end of your studies, I will do two things for you. First, I will let you go abroad to continue your education. Secondly, I will buy you a car and let you drive.” With the encouragement of my father, I was a superstar in my classes. He was my first English teacher and he always called me “my scholar daughter.”

During the Taliban’s black government, my brothers could go to school, but I couldn’t. My father bought me school supplies, though, and told me: “Be patient. One day you will finish your studies.” He was right. I waited five years, but after that, I could go to school.

When I was in ninth grade, I earned my first money from teaching English. It was only 200 Afs, but I was excited. I gave my salary to my father. He kissed me and laughed and told me, “Dear, keep your salary for yourself. I don’t need it.” I said, “Dad, it is for you.” He smiled and told me, “It is just the cost of ink for your shoes,” and he gave me another 1000 Afs. He was my supporter in all aspects.
When I was sixteen years old, one of my neighbors came to our house and proposed that his son marry me. My father was angry and told him: “Do you know my daughter is sixteen? It is time for her to study. If the king comes and knocks at the door of my house and proposes that my daughter marry his son, I won’t accept it. Please, leave my house and never come back again.”

I was in my last days of school when my father died. When I lost him, I lost my shadow, but he left me with his words and advice and books. After his death, our economic situation was bad. Mom’s salary was the equivalent of $25, which was not enough. I began teaching classes in a private school. Half my salary was for my studies and half went for house expenses. During these years, I was the poorest student in my class. I spent days without breakfast or lunch, but I felt happy for my education. During the last four years, I received a number of marriage proposals but I rejected them all. Most wanted me to stop my studies and never work outside the home.

After my father died, the responsibility for me fell to my brothers, who grew up under the Taliban government and were influenced by it. Now I live with three Talibs and I must obey what they say. I am not like a girl in the house, but a slave. When I was at third year at the university, the owner of our house demanded higher rent. My family decided they would leave Kabul and go to a province where housing was cheaper. But I didn’t know how I would continue my studies in that case, so I gave up my transportation money to help pay for our rent, and I go to the university on foot.

Still, at the beginning of this year, my brothers said: “It is time for you to marry.” They arranged a marriage to my first cousin, my mom’s brother’s son, who lives in a province where most of the people are Talib. My cousin is about 40 years old and uneducated. His family has a business and a big house. Their women are required to wear burqas and are responsible for cooking, cleaning and caring for the animals. Most have eight or nine children. They can’t go outside the house—even when they are sick, they aren’t allowed to go to the doctor. My uncle’s money gives him power despite the fact that he is uneducated.

My family thinks I am tired of working so hard, and that my uncle’s money will convince me to accept this golden bracelet. My uncle told my family he would pay them $20,000, and this money might possibly keep my family alive. At the same time, I am thinking about graduating, seeking my masters’ degree and a PhD, getting a better job, making an independent life, standing on my own feet. I told my mom: “Please give me a chance. I don’t like this man. I can’t marry him. If you want to sell me, then I am ready to buy myself. I have a plan for my life. Please give me a chance, please, please.” She didn’t reply, but cried silently with me. I told her: “If my father were here, he would bring a revolution in this house.”

None of my close friends know what is happening with me. Once one of my classmates came to my house and she was carrying her notebook. I study in secret. When my family saw her notebook, they behaved badly toward her and told her not to come again.

These days I am thinking of possible solutions: how to get another job, earn at least $1,000 a month in salary. Running away is not an option because girls who run away here are raped by men and spend years in jail, and I am not such a girl. I can’t leave my mom because my brothers believe anything “wrong” I do is the fault of my mother, and they will kill her. My brothers think a girl who has a bank account or a mobile phone is a prostitute. I hide my phone and keep it on silent mode when I’m home.
I have two months to find a solution. If I fail, I have to accept this marriage, and I will accept it because of my mom, but I can’t live in such a situation. How can I live with such a man, or accept such failure? I think if this happens, I won’t stay in this world; I will leave the world for those who can live in it, who can find a solution.

What I write here are the wounded and torn pieces of my heart and the secrets an Afghan girl suffers.
I am like a piece of cloth. I cost little. Who will buy me?

By Anonymous

This story  pulls at me at me in opposing ways. I am relieved to hear that she had a father who was so giving, loving, and supportive of her. This is not to say that there are not many Afghan fathers who stand up for their women. I,  for one,  have mostly only read of the atrocities of men including fathers, as that is what is written, that is what is reported by many of my women readers.  And rightly so, as the plight of women needs to be expressed and in our faces daily.  But I can not turn away from recognizing that this particular girl was blessed with a father who was not of the ‘norm’ according to the stories that I read and heard.

And I am saddened. I am saddened that her father did not pass along his respect and support of women to his sons. That he did not teach them well enough, knowing that when his time came,  he would leave behind sons that revered women.  And if he did, and the seeds were planted and nurtured, that her brothers did not have the courage to grow into men like their father…to be influenced by his actions, and instead chose to be seduced by the Taliban. And that they now treat her not as a beloved sister, but as a  slave sister.

No doubt her story is unique; her relationship with her father, special. But we all know that her plight and her plea is as common as the next Afghan girl…as the next _______girl.  How I wish I could say it wasn’t so.

Bye Bye 2009…

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 31st December 2009

Good Morning!

First of all I want to say Happy New Year to all of my readers who partied hard last night bringing in the New Year ahead of us here- I hope that you were safe and had a ton of fun!

Secondly, I am excited to report that if you haven’t seen the Huffington Post this morning, let me be the first to tell you that the article I posted yesterday about ‘moving your money to community banks’, is the headliner. I am so excited that people are heeding this advice and taking immediate action.

Zen Lill: Yes, I am speaking to those too that only have checking accounts to pay their bills, so you will not get any wrath from me :)  You don’t have to have a lot of money to move it from one of the biggies to a local community bank. It seemed pretty obvious to me if one read the article and watched the video, but hey some people only see what they want to see.

On a side note, I wanted to thank you for recognizing my continual efforts and support for women. I appreciate your thoughts and comment.  I hope that your stop doing list goes well for you. But remember one can still be zen and change the way one does things. As always be gentle with yourself. Your ‘ways’ have served you well in the past; and it seems they don’t work for your present life now. The fact that you recognize this is half the battle in making the changes you want to make. Let me know how I can support you in any way.

So..Back to the topic at hand….

And as Thomas pointed out: ‘Seems easy enough to me!’ Yes Thomas - It is easy.  Thank you for your comment. You obviously saw the obvious and are heeding the message – Me too! Until you chimed in, I was beginning to wonder.

Anna: I wanted to get back to you from the other day. No worries. I know that if someone wants to track me down there are ways. Not that I feel you tracked me down :) I just don’t worry about things like that. Believe me though, I do keep in mind the mantra “Trust in Allah, but tie up your camel!”

Anyway, no, I did not receive what you sent me, I’m sorry. I am aware that if my blog is difficult to access, then other means to connect with me are probably compromised too. I don’t know when you sent it but I will keep an eye out over the next few days. Maybe luck will be on our side. :)  Happy New Year! I hope that you brought in the new year well last night!

Sandra: You made some very valid points. You remind me of me. You seem to ask a lot of questions and you make good sense. And your comment, ‘Greed made him blind to common sense.’ is a common problem. Greed is strictly for the moment. Common sense stretches into the future. ‘What else can he do’, you ask?  He can stick with you – Your husband is lucky to have a wife that cares and can point our these things to him when his greed gets the best of him.

Anon: Your Thanksgiving Tiger was cute, very cute. :)

Mike: In regards to your article from Sue Lowden, thanks for posting it. I never seem to make the time to find and read articles such as the one you posted. It’s enough to keep up and support the issues I want to support. But it is always helpful to  know what scare tactics are being touted, so thank you.  And they have been at full bore. It is never ending. Keep posting them here, if you can. I appreciate it, and I’m sure my readers do too.

Readers: I’m going to end my post with wishing everyone a wonderful, celebratory, eve of the new year, filled with all that you desire it to be. We have a new year coming and I love it, because it is the mark of new beginnings. Bring it in big, and be safe whatever you do. You are all in my thoughts…

Lots of Love…

The Best New Year’s Resolution

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 30th December 2009

So again, I was out late last night, and yes again, I slept in this morning. But really, I was all ready to post at 9:00 am but my computer was just not behaving. Hence the late post (again:)

I’m all over this article and the video is brill. (Thanks Doug) If you are not big on making a resolution for the new year, I, for one am not; this may just be the year for you to start.

Move Your Money: A New Year’s Resolution

Last week, over a pre-Christmas dinner, the two of us, along with political strategist Alexis McGill, filmmaker/author Eugene Jarecki, and Nick Penniman of the HuffPost Investigative Fund, began talking about the huge, growing chasm between the fortunes of Wall Street banks and Main Street banks, and started discussing what concrete steps individuals could take to help create a better financial system. Before long, the conversation turned practical, and with some help from friends in the world of bank analysis, a video and website were produced devoted to a simple idea: Move Your Money.

The big banks on Wall Street, propped up by taxpayer money and government guarantees, have had a record year, making record profits while returning to the highly leveraged activities that brought our economy to the brink of disaster. In a slap in the face to taxpayers, they have also cut back on the money they are lending, even though the need to get credit flowing again was one of the main points used in selling the public the bank bailout. But since April, the Big Four banks — JP Morgan/Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo — all of which took billions in taxpayer money, have cut lending to businesses by $100 billion.

Meanwhile, America’s Main Street community banks — the vast majority of which avoided the banquet of greed and corruption that created the toxic economic swamp we are still fighting to get ourselves out of — are struggling. Many of them have closed down (or been taken over by the FDIC) over the last 12 months. The government policy of protecting the Too Big and Politically Connected to Fail is badly hurting the small banks, which are having a much harder time competing in the financial marketplace. As a result, a system which was already dangerously concentrated at the top has only become more so.

We talked about the outrage of big, bailed-out banks turning around and spending millions of dollars on lobbying to gut or kill financial reform — including “too big to fail” legislation and regulation of the derivatives that played such a huge part in the meltdown. And as we contrasted that with the efforts of local banks to show that you can both be profitable and have a positive impact on the community, an idea took hold: why don’t we take our money out of these big banks and put them into community banks? And what, we asked ourselves, would happen if lots of people around America decided to do the same thing? Our money has been used to make the system worse — what ifwe used it to make the system better?

Everyone around the table quickly got excited (granted we are an excitable group), and began tossing out suggestions for how to get this idea circulating.

Eugene, the filmmaker among us, remarked that the contrast between the big banks and the community banks we were talking about was very much like the story in the classic Frank Capra filmIt’s a Wonderful Life, where community banker George Bailey helps the people of Bedford Falls escape the grip of the rapacious and predatory banker Mr. Potter.

It was a lightbulb moment. And, unlike the vast majority of dinner conversations, the excitement over this idea didn’t end with dessert. It actually led to something — thanks in great part to Eugene and his remarkable team, who got to work and, in record time, created a brilliant, powerful, and inspiring video playing off the It’s a Wonderful Life concept. Watch it below.

Within a few days, the rest of the pieces fell into place, including an agreement with top financial analysts Chris Whalen and Dennis Santiago, who gave us access to their IRA (Institutional Risk Analytics) database. Using this tool, everyone will be able to plug in their zip code and quickly get a list of the small, solvent Main Street banks operating in their community.

The idea is simple: If enough people who have money in one of the big four banks move it into smaller, more local, more traditional community banks, then collectively we, the people, will have taken a big step toward re-rigging the financial system so it becomes again the productive, stable engine for growth it’s meant to be. It’s neither Left nor Right — it’s populism at its best. Consider it a withdrawal tax on the big banks for the negative service they provide by consistently ignoring the public interest. It’s time for Americans to move their money out of these reckless behemoths. And you don’t have to worry, there is zero risk: deposit insurance is just as good at small banks — and unlike the big banks they don’t provide the toxic dividend of derivatives trading in a heads-they-win, tails-we-lose fashion.

Think of the message it will send to Wall Street — and to the White House. That we have had enough of the high-flying, no-limits-casino banking culture that continues to dominate Wall Street and Capitol Hill. That we won’t wait on Washington to act, because we know that Washington has, in fact, been a part of the problem from the start. We simply can’t count on Congress to fix things. We have to do it ourselves — and the big banks are the core of the problem. We need to return to the stable, reliable, people-oriented approach of America’s community banks.

So watch Eugene’s amazing video, then go to www.moveyourmoney.info to learn more about how easy it is to move your money. And pass the idea on to your friends (help make this video — and this idea — go viral!).

JP Morgan/Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America may be “too big to fail” — but they are not too big to feel the impact of hundreds of thousands of people taking action to change a broken financial and political system. Let them gamble with their own money, not yours. Let’s turn big banks into smaller banks. We’ll all be better off — and safer — as a result.

Make it your New Year’s resolution to move your money. We can’t think of a better way to start 2010.

WATCH:

UPDATE — Credit Unions: Some commenters have written us suggesting that we also include credit unions. Like the FDIC for banks and thrifts, the National Credit Union Administrationinsures the deposits of credit unions and is a good resource for financial data on specific institutions. Credit unions do not disclose financial data in the same way as FDIC-insured banks. As a result, credit unions are not presently included in the IRA ratings database, which covers over 8,000 federally insured banks and thrifts. IRA is developing a method to rate credit unions in a way that is comparable to the IRA bank stress ratings. We’ll be updating users of “Move Your Money” on this issue early in 2010.

Readers: Not much has changed since the Bailey/Potter days. What do you think? Time to move your money? I’m on it – you?

I know some of you addressed me but time has run out for me this morning. Got to run. I’ll catch you tomorrow.

The Future Well Being Of Our Planet…

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 29th December 2009

I received an e-mail from Organizing For America (OFA) yesterday, asking me to give them feedback by filling out a short survey. Did any of you receive this?

One of the questions they asked was, “What other issues would you like OFA to work on?” ‘Oh…I am so happy you asked.’ This was my answer:

Women’s issues, specifically in Darfur, the Congo, Iraq, Iran, and any other country that supports the plight of women. I feel that we should pull out of doing any business with any country that abuses their women and girls. By buying oil from Iraq, we as a country, are saying that we are okay with the fact that they rape and abuse their females…that we are okay with the fact that they treat their females as second class slaves. I find this unacceptable.

If we truly want to change the world we must change how women are treated in this world. Women and girls suffer daily because we help support countries that abuse them. And the only way to drastically make women’s lives better is to make a drastic change in how we do business with these countries.

We must stand up for these women…we must tell these countries that we will no longer do business with them until they treat their women as equals, and give them the same rights as men. We have to give the men ‘no choice’ but to comply.

The lives of women will not only profoundly change but so will our world. The minds and talent of girls around the world will be able to thrive and grow. It will be amazing what they will be able to offer this world, that they presently can not, because they are nothing more than slaves to men.

I wish for our president and OFA to take the plight of women and girls around the world more seriously and to take drastic steps. If we don’t take this stance, it will be a very long time before women in these countries will be free from their horrific plight.

I encourage you to fill out this survey if you get the opportunity and tell OFA what issue(s) you would like them to work on.

In the mean time, women and girls around the world are still suffering. I receieved the following e-mail. Once again, can we all send a few dollars to help?

Dear Michelle,

All the talk of progress in Sudan masks a horrific truth: Unprecedented levels of rape and sexual violence threaten women and girls on a daily basis.

Next year’s elections could spark more instability and violence, and our contacts inside Darfur and Sudan tell us women and girls may pay the highest price.

Help Save Darfur speak out for the silenced victims of genocide by making a generous tax-deductible donation right now.

Save Darfur works directly with activists like Niemat Ahmadi to monitor events on the ground and get information.

Niemat told me, “The enemies are everywhere, the terror is unrelenting, and the tragedy of these awful years has fallen especially heavily on both the women of Darfur—and, with more horror than my words could possibly convey—the girls.”

In the weeks leading up to Sudan’s first elections in over 24 years, we urgently need your help to speak up for the women and girls of Darfur. Your donation will give Save Darfur the resources we need to:

  • Give activists on the ground a megaphone so that their voices cannot be ignored;
  • Petition, rally, and lobby the U.S. government and the United Nations to increase peacekeeping forces in Darfur, to help protect the millions of women and girls there;
  • Develop and distribute reports and benchmarks for fair elections in Sudan; and
  • Pressure the world to isolate and ultimately arrest indicted war criminal Sudanese President Bashir.

Donate now so that we can be that megaphone the people of Darfur and all of Sudan so desperately need.

https://donate.savedarfur.org/08/electionsnd

Niemat wanted to make sure I told you—your efforts are working. She talks of the indictment of President Bashir, of the global pressure on his regime, and of the increased number of UNAMID peacekeepers in the region.

But then she says, “These are not the greatest measure of your impact. Hope is. That is the gift you are giving to the women and girls of Darfur.”

Don’t let these women and girls down.

Please make a generous contribution to support this movement today.

On behalf of Niemat and the rest of the amazing activists whose outreach your donations are supporting—thank you for standing by Save Darfur at this critical moment in our fight for peace.

My best,

Jerry Fowler
President, Save Darfur Coalition

Readers: Thanks again for all that you do. I’ll end my write with this beautiful quote:

As the Dalai Lama has affirmed:

“The future well being of our planet rests

in the empowered hands and compassionate hearts of its women!”

Hi Zen Lill: Nice to hear from you. Love the ‘self talk’. Yes when you’re in the midst of it, it certainly can feel like someone else has stepped in and taken over. Thankfully I have no physical PMS symptoms – did when I was way younger but not at all now. I am grateful for that.

In regards to the abs, I agree with you. It’s nice having a flat strong stomach – I mean Pilates is all about building the core…and toned arms are great for opening jars, etc :). The exercise physiologist (EP) was speaking strictly in terms of building the ‘percentage of muscle mass’, when looking at your overall body and body fat percentage.

From what I understood, if you have a high percentage of body fat, say 30%, and you want to decrease it and turn it into muscle, increasing your percentage of muscle mass, those three muscle groups are the only ones that will increase the percentage of muscle mass. Your percentage of body fat and muscle mass is determined by this very high tech machine that while laying on it, scans your body calculating and reading your body fat and muscle mass. The ‘ol pinch of the skin body fat reader is way passé, so I was informed. Maybe I wasn’t clear before, so thanks for bringing it up.  But again, do your own research as I know you do. :) Happy New Year if you don’t tune in!

Hi Larry: Have you written in before about you and June? Hmm seems to tweak my memory but maybe I am mistaken. It is a drag when something you want is not available. I knew people were having trouble posting but I didn’t know that  you couldn’t even view my blog. Hmm..Anyway Happy New Year to the both of you too. It makes me smile knowing you read my blog together.

Jon: Thanks for your post. I have only been reading tidbit of this. But I agree with you. After flying last week, I was reminded just how much it isn’t working.

Peter & Anna: Hafa Adai. You need never worry if you are posting too much. I know how much your peeps rely on the info you post. Oh and Anna, on a side note, it does not surprise me that your letters were returned – hopefully I will receive the one without the return address – clever girl – let’s see if it works. I have yet to get to my PO Box to pick up my mail. When I do, I’ll let you know if I received it. Thank you.

Hi Ruth: I really miss it too when I don’t see comments from my readers. Whoever I am upsetting,  - no big deal. I have powerful friends too. :) Thanks for posting your article on meds. Those stats about breaking the hip are scary and match up with what I learned last week from that EP that I mentioned.

So…How are you? I loved hearing that the girls had such a good ‘first’ Christmas. Made me smile when Evelyn mentioned that they were sure ‘Santa was a very nice man.’ Evelyn, you made me laugh over ‘the sampling of the goodies’ – love the relationship you two have.  So…besides hanging out with the girls and feasting on english pudding, what are the plans for New Years?

Mary: Yeah I’m wondering. Can you blog us some info please?

Readers: I know I am posting late today but we were out late last night and I really wanted my beauty sleep, which means sleeping till 9 am. I was pretty prepared with my morning post but then I woke up and saw all of the comments, and I wanted to take a little bit more time today to address all of you since so many of you were able to read and blog.

Lastly, In regards to the health care bill…we all know that it isn’t perfect. But it is a start and many people who don’t have health care will now have it and those that have pre-existing conditions will no longer be denied covered. That in itself is incredible. I believe it is worthy of a thank you letter, don’t you? Do it.

~Thank you

Happy New Year To All Of You!

(just in case my blog becomes invisible again!)

Peace out…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

The New Old Face Of Racism, And My Two On Tiger

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 19th December 2009

The New Old Face Of Racism

One of the great challenges of our nation has been and will be to reconcile the racial tension of our past. The historical ramifications of slavery are still felt in the streets of West Baltimore, the country roads of the Mississippi Delta and corridors of the United States Congress. When our nation gathered up enough strength and courage to elect the first African-American president, in the words of our great GlobalGrind blogger, Erica Williams, “our nation did not become post-racial, but we’re making every effort to be post-racist.”

During the president’s first year of his term, often has our nation endured various situations that dealt with race, including Skip Gates’ arrest, the “birthers” movement, the “Witch Doctor” poster, amongst many others. Although we have made tremendous progress in our discussions revolving around race, one consistent reminder that we have not reached a state of high consciousness is the ability of the few to co-opt the opinions of the masses. As the Republican Party has tried hard to give itself a new face, with Michael Steele becoming the first African-American chairman in its history, it is sadly still the race-baiting commentators that dictate the agenda.

This week, Rush Limbaugh made a sickening comment in his attempt to interpret the words of Rev. Jackson, when he said that the “black frame of mind” is “terrible” and that “Tiger Woods choice of women sure didn’t help it.” When three Republican U.S. Senators and half a dozen evangelical preachers do it, why isn’t he saying it depresses the white race? Limbaugh’s bringing in Tiger’s infidelity as if it’s related to black culture goes back to an old and deeply evil racist connection of black men and sexual promiscuity. To use the image of the black man as the sexual predator is the oldest form of race baiting, dating back to Emmit Till and before that, the slaves on the plantation. Moreover, Rush is using Tiger as an Obama surrogate, using Tiger as a way to say that these men cannot be trusted. Rush knows exactly what he is doing by being the first to link the plight of the black man to the sorrows of Tiger Woods.

It was only a matter of time, before the new face of the Republican Party resorted back to their old tricks. And if you keep these type of games going, we will get another four years to pass our progressive agenda, because the majority of Americans, including Republicans, are tired of it. If you think, for one minute, that the real “new” face of the Republican party, the new emerging young conservative voice, want Dick Cheney or Sarah Palin or Rush Limbaugh as their leader, you are foolishly mistaken. Young people are tired of blue and red America…they want purple America. Young people are tired of the divisive name calling, they want to work together to solve the nation’s problems. Young people are tired of fighting two wars, they want peace. So, Mr. Limbaugh and your cronies, you can continue to spew your hate all you want, because this type of racism and pain will only work for so long.

We will build a new America, together. We will build a post-racial America, together. We will build a nation that will no longer tolerate racism, new or old, together.

-Russell Simmons, Huffington Post

Readers: I wasn’t going to add anything here but speaking of Tiger Woods, got my mind going. What I want to add has nothing to do with racism, but everything to do with Tiger. I haven’t said anything on the subject, as I am just so disgusted with his behavior and all of the press that it is generating. However because he was part of today’s article I just have to give my two on the subject of Tiger and his infidelities.

First of all, how many mistresses are we up to now? Ten?..eleven? At this point who’s counting? My concern is that at least two of Tiger’s mistresses have reported having sex with him, sans a condom. I just have to ask, “What the hell were you doing Tiger, having sex without a condom? Do you care so little about your wife and family that you would risk getting an STD or worse Aids, because of your selfish irresponsible behavior?”

It is one thing to cheat, but another to do it without protection. Does the thought, “If this woman is going to have sex with me without a condom, she must be having sex with other men without a condom too”, come to mind? Uh yeah! Get a clue – put one on. Don’t you realize that by not using a condom, you’re basically having sex with every person that your mistress has been having sex with unprotected?

No doubt in my mind, Tiger is a walking time bomb. Who knows what kind of diseases he has and is passing around. Hey…it’s simple math: One bad experience of unprotected sex is all you need. All it takes is one time to get infected. One. And Tiger has had lots of unprotected sex over the period of his affairs, with not just one mistress but with two.

Elin, you are making the right decision by getting out of this marriage. His behavior and the company he has been keeping, shows he has no respect for you. The lack of protection via a condom, shows that all he cared about was himself feeling good at the moment, and showing that he has little care or love for you. If he did he would’ve said, “No glove, no love” and donned a condom. Simple as that.

No man who truly loves his wife would ever jeopardize her life. Tiger’s actions speak louder than any words he has ever whispered in your ear. No amount of therapy is going to change the man he really is. And your life is not worth losing over this loser, if it isn’t lost already. I hope for you it isn’t. This man is way too risky, and I would not trust for a moment that he won’t be irresponsible again. I’ll say it one more time: “Elin, get out of this marriage.”

Readers: Am I being too harsh on Tiger? I don’t think so. Have anything to say about Simmon’s article? Blog me.

Oh….FYI: I am out town for 5 days with a dear friend who is need of my support, and we have a very demanding schedule. My communication will be quite limited even more so until Thursday. Thanks for your understanding.

Anna: Yes, of course it would be okay with me, and I would be happy to forward to Zen Lill. Thank you for thinking of me! Hafa Adai.

Al: Let us know how you do in the game. Maybe you will have better results in the game than the meetings sadly in Copehagen did.

Zen Lill: Have fun at your parties and good luck with selling your line!

michelle
