Obama’s Weekly Address: Getting Real About Health Care Reform

First things first…My apologies as I feel I was a bit premature in my posting yesterday. I didn’t take the time to watch the entire video of Sen. Grassley at the town hall meeting before I wrote my write. My feelings toward Sen. Grassley have not changed. And I still believe that the truth truly is what the majority of the people believe. So it is my goal to help Obama and his administration stop the lies and rumors, and let the truth, the real truth be told.

But, back to my point…After watching the entire video, as well as perusing the net and viewing other clips of the citizens of Iowa, I think the town hallers deserve more kudos than I gave them. I thought that they did question authority and I hope that they left not taking Grassley’s words for gospel and that they will continue to question and do their research. Unfortunately, I know that most there, were not for the public option, which still tells me that we have our work cut out for us.

As far as the lobbyists and special interests go…they are still and will continue to instill fear into the public and anyone willing to listen to their scare tactics as they try and prevent Obama’s health care reform from passing. We are at a critical time and I feel the urgency for reform to pass almost as much as I felt the urgency to elect Obama into office. We can not take a day off when people are losing their health insurance daily.

I caught the end of Obama’s town hall meeting in Montana on cspan last night, and I can’t say I have ever been so impressed with a president before. Obama just knows his stuff and well he should.

I tried to envision Bush or McCain giving such detailed, clear, and informed answers to the town hallers questions, and I just couldn’t imagine that either one could pull it off and articulate as well as our president. Could I be a tad bias? Maybe. But would Bush or McCain, put that much energy or passion or concern into something so important, let alone, take the time to acquire knowledgeable and a deep understanding about the subject at hand, like Obama has shown in his actions time and time again? My past experience tells me no.

It makes me sad to read about the tears and the stress, but I am with you letting the tears fall freely. A good cry always makes me feel better…and I find staying busy and taking your mind off of what ever stresses you is the best cure. So either Republicans were for death panels in 2003 before turning against them now–or they’re lying about end-of-life counseling in order to frighten the bejeezus out of their fellow citizens and defeat health reform by any means necessary. Which is it, Mr. Grassley (“Yea,” 2003)?

I’ll answer that question: It is the latter isn’t it Mr. Grassley? C’mon, fess up…be honest.

PS – what’s the deal with ‘Rosebud’? I like it.

The Truth Truly Is What The Majority Of The People Believe

Hello…

Well…health care is obviously the hot topic this week. I love that my readers are so current as it keeps me on my toes. I did not hear about Sen. Grassley’s town hall meeting until I read the comments this morning. So I clicked on the link (Thanks Anonymous 14) and began to watch it. After a few minutes (ok more than a few minutes), listening to all of his rhetoric, I was done.

I mean, how can Sen. Grassley say that we have the best health care in the world when we are ranked no. 37!? And once again, he’s quoting the Lewin Group, the strength of the GOP’s talking points. Most of the people at the meeting are elderly, and he’s taking advantage of that by preying on them and breeding fear. And some are taking it in as if he’s their BFF, protecting them.

Do any of these town hallers check out their sources? Do they question authority? I know many are challenging him with their questions but are they hungry to find the truth or do they just take his words, his answers, as gospel? They are most likely trusting him to tell the truth. I mean he is their Senator, representing their state. He does have their best interest at heart, right? Think again. Once again, in my opinion he is just another wolf in sheep’s clothing trying to bury Obama at the expense of us all.

This is very scary to me. Truth is an illusion. The truth truly is what the majority of the people believe.

Oh, we have our work cut out for us. We can no longer smile and pass pleasantries to our friends, neighbors, and families when they speak of things that just aren’t true. We need to set them straight….hell even talk to strangers if you get the opportunity. These rumors and lies need to be buried deep…or our health care reform is gonna be in deep shit.

Ends Discrimination for Pre-Existing Conditions: Insurance companies will be prohibited from refusing you coverage because of your medical history.
Ends Exorbitant Out-of-Pocket Expenses, Deductibles or Co-Pays: Insurance companies will have to abide by yearly caps on how much they can charge for out-of-pocket expenses.

8 common myths about health insurance reform

Reform will stop “rationing” – not increase it: It’s a myth that reform will mean a “government takeover” of health care or lead to “rationing.” To the contrary, reform will forbid many forms of rationing that are currently being used by insurance companies.
We can’t afford reform: It’s the status quo we can’t afford. It’s a myth that reform will bust the budget. To the contrary, the President has identified ways to pay for the vast majority of the up-front costs by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse within existing government health programs; ending big subsidies to insurance companies; and increasing efficiency with such steps as coordinating care and streamlining paperwork. In the long term, reform can help bring down costs that will otherwise lead to a fiscal crisis.
Reform would encourage “euthanasia”: It does not. It’s a malicious myth that reform would encourage or even require euthanasia for seniors. Keith Olbermann Unmasks Saboteurs Behind Phony Town Hall Protests

Good morning.

I am headed to downtown San Francisco this afternoon to give my two on health care reform at Sen. Feinstein’s office. I hear that people have been flooding through all week supporting Obama in his push. We also know that in town hall meetings there are those that oppose….and they are trying to drown out those that want change. It’ll be interesting to see if they are hanging out in SF too. I’ll let you know after my visit today.

So….did you all see the special comment from Olbermann yesterday? Oh..it’s a goody. I’ve posted it especially for you. It’s not just the insurance companies that we need to watch out for, but the saboteurs, the instigators of all of this crap that is pushed into the publics minds, via Fox News and other right-winged media channels.

Check it out….It starts out with Palin’s death panel and goes on and on from there. I think it is a must see.

And repeating the words of Olbermann: “THINK”

Helena: All I know is that our present health care system isn’t working for everybody, and to me that means it doesn’t work, period. I am personally leaning toward a single payer plan. The HR 676 is the plan I’m checking out, but I am still doing my research. In regards to preventative medicine: I think any plan has to include this. Just like in Michael Moore’s movie ‘Sicko’, I believe I remember Doctors getting paid more money for getting people to quit smoking. I think preventative medicine is a must and getting to the root of a medical problem instead of just putting on the quick fix band-aid.

Al: Nope…no feather duster needed. I’m not saying that he didn’t make an honest mistake, but my point being, even if he meant to say ‘Obama’, he still could’ve reworded it asking her opinion and Obama’s opinion. Hillary is an intelligent woman, and she’s got opinions just like everyone else.

It wouldn’t have bothered me if he was asking for Obama’s opinion but it does bother me that he asked for the opinion of two males, regardless of which male he meant to say, and he didn’t ask for hers. I mean she is the Secretary of State. I just don’t see this incident happening this way if she was a man. I think Hillary was in the right to say what she did. If she didn’t stand up for herself as a strong, highly capable woman in a country where women are certainly not revered, how would that look? Especially since the context of her trip out there included meeting with women who have been raped and abused….treated as weapons of war.

Lost In Translation?

Will Hillary ever lose the shadow of Bill or was this simply, ‘lost in translation’? Or something even more telling? You tell me. Watch the video.

Supposedly the translator made a mistake and the male student was asking what President Obama would think of the deal, and not posing the question as what would Bill Clinton think. However the State Dept. has not yet reviewed recordings of the original question, in French, to learn whether the student clearly intended the question to refer to Obama, not former President Clinton. The true translation will be interesting and enlightening.

But my first point is, if I were Hillary hearing the question, I may have reacted the same way. I may not have said the exact same words but I certainly would’ve been a bit put off, with an attitude, like ‘What my opinion doesn’t matter?”

The first thing that came to my mind is how women are treated in the Congo. I have written about the Congo, the war against women, and rape used as a weapon of war. Hillary’s trip two days later, today, after this incident was to head to Goma, to draw attention to the plight of women who are victims of rape as a weapon of war. In the context of her visit to the Congo, what do you think was going through her mind as she was asked this question? I can tell you, if you read my articles and you know how the women in Congo are treated, it is obvious what was fresh in her mind. And then you have a male student, if even he meant to say President Obama, and not Mr. Clinton, he was still asking for the opinion of two males, not hers, as a female, the U.S. Secretary of State.

Just how telling is this scenario? Well, Readers? Blog me your thoughts.

We all need to get more involved and get this thing passed.

Readers: I can’t even join in on this conversation about the president not being a US citizen. It is preposterous, and I am just not in the mood to go there this morning. However….those standing up to anonymous #9, “Go for it! You have my support.”

Who’s Got Your Money? Steven Hemsley: The Man Behind UnitedHealth Group

Remember the questions I asked yesterday? Well…here is your answer.

Another great film by Brave New Films was just released a few days ago. The subject? One of our biggest current concerns: Health care, and more specifically, UnitedHealth Group and CEO Steven Hemsley. I briefly mentioned UnitedHealth a few weeks ago. Here’s a bit more:

What does UnitedHealth Care CEO Stephen Hemsley have to lose if Congress passes real healthcare reform this year? Well, for starters, his nearly three quarters of a billion dollars in (sic) unexercised stock options might lose a few pennies on the dollar.

What does Isabella, a four year-old girl in Winsconsin who is physically incapable of eating and has had to be tube fed her entire life, have to gain from healthcare reform? The treatment she needs to live a normal life.
