Obama Has A Plan….Give Him A Chance

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 2nd March 2009

Hi DNSR!: Good to hear from you again. Recession zin? Pray tell, what is that? :) I have heard about these orphanages and I am grateful for them. These elephants need protection and family. Thanks for commenting. Now…what else can you report? Especially about the LTTE…I and inquiring readers such as Shelia want to know.

Lance: Funny you should mention Viviane Castro – I saw the photo of her with Obama on her thigh – very cool. And if I were Michelle Obama,  I wouldn’t worry for a minute about a stained dress showing up in the white house. He is definitely not a Clinton.

Anna:  I read the article that you posted, along with your comments. I really do not know much about the history of Guam except that it is a US territory, ceded to the U.S. by Spain. No wonder you/they feel as you do. Your comment peaked my interest. Hmm…Perhaps I feel an article brewing. Anyway, good luck in the pageant! Keep us updated.

Miki: I NEVER take a day off. I am always here. You say, ‘No way to treat the troops.’ Hmm…exactly what are you saying? As far as the naysayers: They don’t bother me – it makes the banter interesting. But you are correct – they must find something interesting here or they wouldn’t keep coming back. You say you love my blog – maybe they do too.

Robert: Nice to see that I am not the only one requesting that the ‘anons’ pick a name. If I was going to be anonymous, it is much more fun to have a name than just be an anonymous anonymous. :) We’ll see if anyone takes your advice. If not, we’ll live with it.

As far as the rest of your comment, I agree, if even half the stuff Anonz has told us was true, we had better get in the game.

Aybak: I agree with you. Men are especially attuned to their own needs. Whereas women are inherent care givers. I appreciate the differences between men and women and what they bring to the table. What I don’t like is when actions from either sex have an affect on my livelihood or the livelihood of others. Other than that, live and let live.

And you raise a very valid question.  The ‘Do unto others…’ always comes to mind with questions like this. It is a simple mantra but one that not many pay attention to.

Zen Lill:  I got your phone message too. I think I will be available late afternoon on Wednesday.  I look forward to reading your draft or collaborating one with you.  Good luck with the new job! How did the open go yesterday?

Cleo, Brooke, Linda & Frank and anonymous ( yes all 3 of you): And I will add: Do not bank with Chase either. They totally screwed me with escalating rates and at that time I had excellent credit.   And yes it’s true, if you have good credit and pay monthly, on time, you will be in good standing, and the rates most likely will not go up.  But the moment you screw up, they hit you with the late charges, and ridiculously increased rates. Some people are just not responsible and pay late, or miss monthly payments consistently.  They deserve to have their rates increased. But the ones who are truly responsible and have made payments on time and their credit is in good standing, should be given a break. Shit happens some times. And in these time a lot of shit is happening.

I do know that the best thing to do is communicate with them immediately, the moment you are aware that you may have trouble making a payment.  Whenever I have screwed up I have been able to have the late charges removed. But again, I make a call and when they see that I have a good record, they usually work with me. Unfortunately this is not true for all banks. I have dealt with ones who won’t budge at all. The present is like nothing we have dealt with before.

I don’t know about all of the credit cards that you all have, but mine have given me 1 month to 3 months to either close my accounts or accept their new rates.  Luckily, I have pretty good credit  – not excellent like I used to, but who does anymore? So when I got letters these letters telling me that my rates were going to be raised unless I locked in the current rate by closing them, I of course closed them.  But I am with you, CUT YOUR CARDS UP! I don’t use mine anymore. I am just paying them off. I can promise, that if I ever use a card again,  I am paying it off monthly or else I will not use it.  The funny thing is, we used our cards to help our businesses grow, not for frivolous desires. As I look back, part of me wishes we did use them for fun – at least we would have great memories. :)

Doug said to me the other day, ‘Why don’t we all just stop paying on our credit cards?’ – And he meant EVERYONE. These banks are getting bailed out and we the taxpayers are the ones who are going to have to pay for it, not to mention the late charges, and high interest rates.  Could we have an impact with the banks it we all refused to make one more payment on our credit cards?

AH:  Good to hear from you again.  What you say about the banks makes so much sense. But I still ask, ‘Why do the banks continue to be so greedy with us, the credit card holders, the taxpayers, the ones that that are bailing them out? Are they not taking enough from us already? I ask this rhetorically as I know the answer, but it still continues to baffle me that the greed does not end…that the greed is literally bankrupting our country.

I believe that President Obama has a plan too and I totally back him. We voted him in and I trust he has our best interest at heart. I read and hear that many do not agree with his plan, but I too agree that we must give him a chance. He is the first president that has set out and is doing what he promised he would do. He is setting a new precedent on so many different levels.  I have faith that he will clean house.

Got to run.

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

Tired Of Being Fleeced? Be A Force – Participate!

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 1st March 2009

Well, I woke up on this storming morning and felt little ado about nothing, again. I thought that we would have more comments from what Anonz wrote on last Thursday, so I was waiting to give my two until them. But so far, there have been few comments.  I am a bit surprised by this.  And then a comment came in from Anonz and what he said inspired my write this morning.

I think you are correct Anonz when you say that some feel you are purging your demons. Some feel that you are just as corrupt as our government. Well let me be blunt here. Most of the men on my blog feel that you are, and the women see you as a noble hero.  I find it fascinating and interesting that the two sexes stand at opposite ends. Just why is that?

No one can deny what part you have played. You have freely admitted your participation. But many refuse to see that you are player of a game and the people of the United States set up the rules by who they voted in to office.  You have told us for many months, not to hate the players but to hate the game. Even I, in the beginning could not see your reasoning. But it has been crystal clear to me now for a long time.

Our complacency in our participation of our government allowed for the rules to stand as they are.  You as a player had decided that if those are the rules that the people chose…if we voted those people into office who have no concern for anyone else outside of them and theirs….who could care less about the rights of women and OTW’s, who have little concern for our environment etc…the list goes on….whose main goal was to fleece the American people and to amass as much personal wealth as possible…you were going to make sure that you were a major player instead of people like us: “The ones getting fleeced.” I don’t blame you.

I truly believe and I have had many people disagree with me on this, ‘People do not want others to be successful.’ They will cheer you on and hope that you are successful, but…this is the caveat, ‘As long as you are not as successful as them.’ It is sad but I really believe this to be true. If you look around, those with the wealth want to continue to amass it, to stay exclusive in their group, and keep it from others. Those that are trying to amass the wealth want to attain it so that they can be a part of the exclusive group, and keep it others from attaining it.

I think that anyone who judges you and your actions are people who wish that they could play at your level too, instead of being fleeced. Yes, there are many innocents in this group. We can all say, ‘Well I didn’t vote for Bush.’ But really, is voting for one party or another really participating in our government? We live in a country that has more freedoms and choices, the greatest country on this planet, and yet we bitch and moan and rarely do anything. We have to be accountable for our actions. We have to be accountable for our lack of actions.

If 55% of white America is willing to support a party that sees nothing wrong with bankrupting our country because of personal greed, what does that say? It says that we have to participate more and drown out the voices of that 55%. It says that we have to work really hard and not take our rights for granted. It says that we can no longer rest on our laurels and ‘hope’ that everything comes out okay. It won’t.  The state that our country is presently in, proves just that. It really says that in order for our survival, people need to change.

I know that if anyone was in your position to either be fleeced or control and fleece the fleecers ( Is that a word?) that were voted into office, they would chose to be in your position. If the American people are going to continue to vote in office people such as we have in the past, then you are correct, we deserve to be fleeced. And you Anonz, should not feel any other way than you do.  As you have said before and you stated again, “If someone is going to be screwed by our politicians, it isn’t going to be you.”  I believe that if others were fortunate to be in your position to amass the billions as you have, they would jump at the opportunity; they would not be turning down the billions.

I have asked the question before, “If you could trust anyone to have all of the power and control, who would you trust?” My answer would be me.  I think Anonz has the same answer, and I don’t mean ‘me’. :)

So I ask again, why such a difference of opinions when it comes to Anonz? I believe the men are envious and wish they too could be big players. They say that they would act differently but knowing men, I know that the zeros would be too enticing to pass up. One can not judge until one is in the same position. I would like to see how many men would turn down the billions or say no to the fleecing when they know it will continue with or without them. The smart thing to do, would be do gain as much wealth and control as possible.  Again….”If you could trust anyone to have all of the control and power….” If the men could let their egos aside, they would see where Anonz is coming from.

Zen Lill once said, ‘He is a recovering bigot’. I think she is correct. Could the love from a little girl have that much of an affect on Anonz? It seems it has. Oh, how I wish the love from women could have the same affect on all of the men out there.  He gives us hope that men like him can change and because we have so few examples to go by,  why wouldn’t women be taken by him?

How many men would risk their lives to do what he is doing? How many would go defend a dead little girl and ask for nothing in return? Most would just sit back and enjoy the billions; not put their life on the line.  Women are routing for him because they see that Anonz is a real man, a true hero, a man of nobility.  As we have seen from the comments from many women readers, we are lacking in the ‘real men’ department in this world. I am blessed but not many women are. Anonz give them hope. And although Anonz says that he may not be altruistic with his billions, women have the faith that he will do the right thing. It is no surprise that they pray for him and his safe return.

I decided to reprint Anonz’s comment from the other day. I think it is important that people read it again and realize that standing along the sidelines and not participating in the game is not an option anymore. You might hate Anonz for his participation or you might be envious because he is in a position that you wish you were in.

My advice? Readers: Be less concerned about Anonz and the player that he is in this game where we created the rules, and be more concerned about the game and how we can change the rules by participating ourselves. He has revealed to us information that gives us power. He has informed us of things that we would never be privy to, if it were not for him. I for one am grateful, and I intend to use that information to empower me, and help empower the people in our country and this world.

Anonz’s comment from Thursday:

I am so tired of fighting my own people while I am trying to get this task done. This is not really the work of George W. Bush. He is just an imbecilic toady. This order to kill me at any cost is by the old head of the CIA, George H. Bush.

The guy became head of the CIA to get control of all the information on ALL investments made in the world markets. He used the information to enable insider trading on the highest level ever imaginable. It made multi-billionaires over night.

We were making so much money that when he informed us that he could do much more for us as President, we went for it big time. So we put together the fastest money pot any Presidential candidate ever had. Then we set out to insure his election.

It was then we learned that money and power was not enough to own America. We had to have control over a significant numbers of mindless minions to get out there and bring us the votes. Of course this was before the technology was available to enable us to steal elections.

GH Bush was never a leader of our group. He was just a very ambitious soldier. He like Dole wanted to be one of us. We despised these lackeys, but we had to admit they were willing to do anything to become seated members of our little group. So we played on them to gain absolute control of all money transactions going through the USA.

There are many stories that can be told about the getting there, but for now I just wish to say we settled on GH Bush to give us that via the Presidency and Dole through the Senate.

GH had his own greedy aims. As soon as he became President he made bigger overtures to the Saudi royal family to secure billions for his family and personal friends. We were very upset at our cut of this action. Between us we knew that if we let him remain in office for a second term, he would try to oust us. His fate was sealed. He never forgave us for kicking him out.

GH came to us with a brilliant idea. He knew through his CIA connections that Saddam coveted the wealth of Kuwait. That’s the lie he told us. We later found that his CIA operatives had been putting the bug in Saddam’s ear about all the riches he could have by taking control of Kuwait. The CIA had many operatives in Saddam’s inner circle. They were instructed to entice Saddam into invading Kuwait.

That would give the US an opportunity to invade and kill him. He had to be killed because he was threatening to change the unit of currency for oil trading from US dollars to Euros. The European cabal was attempting to make an end run to stop the control over the world markets that we were rapidly securing. We agreed and the play was on.

What we didn’t count on was that Saddam would offer such a large sum to keep his life and that that greedy bastard GH would take it. He paid GH 87 billion dollars to leave him in control of Iraq. Bush took the money and pulled out of Iraq leaving Saddam and his regime intact. For a few billion more he gave Saddam the names of the Iraqis and kurds that were lined up to take over after the US had killed Saddam.

The Saudis felt betrayed. They vowed to punish the US for their betrayal. So they set about financing any group who wanted to harm the US or their interest worldwide. That too is another story.

We made a shit load of money as our cut of the $87 billion(we still don’t know how much additional money GH pocketed). But we do know that Saddam had made tapes of the transaction and he was threatening to tell. Now we said that he had to go.

GH was desperate to appease the Saudis and he was worried that the world would find out that he tricked Saddam into invading Kuwait and that he had been assured that if he did the US would look the other way. He was also worried it would become known that he had been paid off by Saddam to allow him to invade Kuwait and to keep control of power afterwards.

We agreed to help him get his idiot son elected provided he allowed our man Chaney to control things. The deal was cut. Since technology had caught up with us, we were now in possession of the technology to guarantee the election of anyone we wanted. So we put the idiot in.

It should also be pointed out that the idiot son with the help of some other greedy ambitious bastards decided that he could run things without our influence. So he set out removing Chaney and others we controlled from the center of influence. We were making so much money that we didn’t perceive the disaster this idiot could get our operation into.

Now the push is on to prevent me from telling the world what I know. More than a few of us are worried. Most are probably watching to see what happens to me. Me, I intend to push back.

Anonz

Lastly, I see that some comments have come in but I really need to post, and this article is long enough. I’ll address the comments tomorrow.

Wal-Mart: The Retail Giant…Racist AND Sexist?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 26th February 2009

Are you a fan of Wal-Mart? I never have been. Maybe, I have been in the store twice out of desperation because I was in an area where the only store to shop at was Wal-Mart.  I have been told that there some good things about Wal-Mart…fill me in because I am not privy to them. Actually no, I lied. I do know that they sell organic produce and that they are either going ‘green’ in their stores or they already are. I’m not sure. Maybe you my readers can fill me in. I have heard that they have a reputation of beating up on their suppliers.

But what about their employees? They do employ many people which is a good thing yes? One would think. But does the good out weigh the bad? Recently I have read about two lawsuits involving Wal-Mart. And since we have been on the subject of racism and sexism I thought I would share with you some of  what I discovered about the retail giant.

For one, Wal-Mart has recently been accused of discriminating against blacks in recruitment and hiring of truck drivers  for its private fleet.  Wal-Mart of course has denied that it engaged in any policy or pattern or practice of unlawful discrimination.  Well of course they have denied it  -  I mean, can you imagine if they did own up to it?

So they settled and Wal-Mart has agreed to pay $17.5 million.  The company also agreed to priority job placements for 23 of the plaintiffs who submit approved claim forms, provide direct notice of all future job opportunities to all interested members of the class-action suit, establish benchmark hiring goals so future hires are proportionate by race to the composition of applicants, select a diversity recruiter, and improve its recruitment efforts and advertising aimed at African-Americans.

Hmm..My first thought is, ‘They agreed to priority job placement for 23 of the plaintiffs. I don’t know how many plaintiffs there were but why not all of them?’ And my second thought is…’Let’s just see if they actually do all of this, and racial discrimination isn’t an issue any more.’  I think they got off cheaply but then they have a bigger fish to fry. Read on….

So in speaking of discrimination…Did I mention that Wal-Mart has two lawsuits they are dealing with? The first one was a race issue and guess what the second one is about? If you guessed sexism, you guessed correctly. And this is a biggie. And I say this because it is the nation’s largest civil rights suit. And to no one’s surprise it involves women.  You know women, the sex that is considered second class….unequal to the men on this planet.

This class action suit involves 2 million (!) past and present female employees  who accused Wal-Mart  of discriminating in pay and promotions. This case started in 2001 and finally got class action status in 2004. And now, just the other day, our Federal appeals court gave Wal-Mart another chance to derail the suit. But of course, a class action ruling would force Wal-Mart to defend it’s practices in a single jury trial  – we’re talking billions of dollars here. Of course they want a reversal. No surprise there.

Wal-Mart says that they ‘believe the experiences alleged by the six individuals who brought this suit are not representative of the experiences of our female associates’.  Wha’at?!  They have 2 million women involved in this case. What does it take for the women on this planet to have a voice and be respected for that voice?  It is amazing that this is even happening.  But then again just what sex do you think these judges are?  All I can say is that, if this was a class action lawsuit involving 2 million men, this would never be happening. Oh…but let me first ask…would there ever be a class action lawsuit involving 2 million men? You get my point.

Racism….sexism….will it ever end?

I would love to hear from any of my readers if you are employees of Wal-Mart and even better if you are a plaintiff in this case. Care to share? Blog me.

Oh…before I go I wanted to address Roger and Mark from the other day. When I write my daily, I reserve my time and comments to those who address me first, and if I have more time to address or make a comment to those that comment to other commentators, I will. Yesterday I didn’t, but today I do.

Roger: Although you were addressing anon2, I want to say that I appreciate the words that you said to him and I ask myself the same question.  There was so much hatred in his words. And I’m with ya…if anyone knew the identity of this man, I would certainly question their friendship with him. His venom was clearly felt when I read his words. It gave me the heebie jeebies.

Mark: That being said above, Anon2 is just a creep…a creep with issues…really a sociopath in my mind.

And in regards to your question: Just when did this (OTW’s) become what the non-whites want to be called? It is just easier to put anyone other than white into a category instead of naming a huge list of other than whites every time we refer to anyone other than white. It is not meant to offend nor to say that there is not a difference between one other than white and another other than white. But what it does is allow is for us to make a point when we need to separate whites from those that aren’t white.

Shawn, Zen Lill, Doug, Lenny (whoa – have you got the hots for ZL or Wha’at!:) Tekke:  Good to hear from all of you. I don’t have anything to add here so….I am off to do my day.

We Are Not ‘Worsening’ Things, We Are ‘Waking’ Things Up.

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 25th February 2009

I had wanted to write about something else today but when I woke up, I felt that this conversation from yesterday needed to continue. I have more to say on the subject. I just have to add an observation that has come to my attention.  I find it interesting that the male commentators (not ALL of them) get so offended when the women say, ‘Oh…let me guess…you have a small penis”…or  ‘You’re letting the little head overrule the big head’, when women are speaking from a  defensive position.

As the writer of my blog, I will say that I don’t make a comment or write an article taking an offensive position in regards to men and their genitals.  No, in the contrary. When I make a comment that feels heated or ‘shrill’, it is coming from a defensive position as a rebuttal to another commentator, a man. And I think that I can safely say that this applies to  most of the women commentators also.

I find it interesting that Al made a comment, ‘ …have always been in favor of your cause, but we may have a disagreement on some of your methods.’  My answer:  My method, my defense, is in direct proportion to the offense.  Let me clarify. Men come onto my blog and make harsh racist remarks towards Obama and any other OTW.  I don’t need to list the name-calling that has been prevalent in the comments. Men come onto my blog and make harsh sexist remarks towards women, calling us not only second class citizens; our place is behind our men,  but that we are nothing more than baby machines.  In both cases, these men deprive women and OTW’s of equality and do everything in their power to maintain that status quo.

Men (once again not ALL) have rarely come to the defense of women by going off on these atrocious men who act and say such horrific things.  Their silence tells us that they are either in support of these men, or they’re just too lazy, they don’t care, to take part and do anything in support of women or OTW’s.

Women on the other hand, and I brought this up yesterday, realizing that they are not physically capable of forcing men to accept us as equals, resort to competing psychologically.  So when a man comes onto my blog and posts a racist or sexist remark, some women may feel that they have no choice but to respond in a defensive way….hit the man right in the psyche, or ‘square in the nuts’,  since they can’t slap him in the face.

And when this happens, watch out…the men that were silently hanging in the sidelines are now out in the field.  Where were you when women needed you to defend them? And yes, I will say that women do need the ‘real’ men out there to defend them. We need all of the help we can get because we are loosing big time!  Yes, now they are out in the field, but who’s side are they on? Are they lashing out toward the men who initially made the cruel and disgusting remarks? No, they don’t come out to defend us…No, they (you know who you are) come out to serve another round of tongue lashings…more verbal abuse towards the women who are simply acting in defense of those initial offensive cruel and disgusting remarks. Some of the men, and you know who you are,  adding to the cruel remarks, actually get pleasure from doing it. Sickening.

FYI: The shit is thrown in direct proportion to how it is dished out. I’m sick of men thinking they can continually abuse women verbally and physically and we are supposed to act like ladies and silently take it up the ass, or accept an apology, like it’s enough. Women have been gentle for too long and where has it gotten us? More oppressed and abused and it’s getting worse. Rape is now being used as a weapon of war – sickening. Our so called ‘name calling’ isn’t worsening things…it’s waking things up.

And I’m asked to change my method. Why? Are the men changing their methods? Yeah they’re changing all right – they’re getting more abusive.

It seems the only reaction we get out of men is when women react in direct proportion to the abusive delivery we receive. Until then, men (not ALL) basically do nothing. If men don’t like the methods I and women use then start changing your ways. Don’t be verbally abusive one day and apologize the next day and expect it to be enough. It isn’t. Start treating women and OTW’s as equals…start respecting them and honoring the differences, and you will receive the same treatment. If you aren’t racist or sexist, then support women and OTW’s. Do something.  Until then, don’t expect my methods to change.

Anonz: It is hard to read your write and not feel compassion for what you must be going through.  I know it is your choice, and even though you are committed to the task, you sound tired…and your desire to return to your beloved country is apparent. I wish for you and your men, all the strength, energy, and courage that you can muster, to defeat your enemies, avenge Nia’s murderers, and complete your mission quickly and successfully. In regards to your personal task: “Better honor than accolades.” May peace come soon.

Lora: I am not surprised that you are not happy being back here. No one who leaves seems to want to return, but it is part of the deal.

In regards to that Nuclear “accident” that you spoke, of we’ll handle this via comunication 27.

Barbara and Melinda: Thank you!

Caroline:  It is a continual quest to get them to ‘get it’. Keep trying.

Qalat: Thanks for your confidence and no worries. As long as I have a venue I will continue to write, inspire and encourage hope.

10:23AM:  I just saw Melvin’s comment on yestersay’s post. A perfect example for my post today. Now…what method do you think would be best to use for my defensive rebuttal?  Since I am done posting for the day, I’ll look forward to someone else’s comment. ‘Real’ men: Here’s your chance. Do something.

Peace & Love: Live it, Give it!

California: Out Of Cash?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 17th February 2009

I am a local girl – was born in the Bay Area…San Francisco to be exact. Lately so many of my girlfriends have been posting old high school pictures of  ‘the gang’ on facebook.  It has been a trip reconnecting with so many and seeing the past pics.

I remember when I graduated from Redwood, so many of my friends were just dying to get out of here. Many moved out of state and a few to LA where they went to college, or just to get away to some where new. Me? I did the LA thing but only for a year to go to fashion design school, and then I headed back to Marin. And shortly thereafter….San Francisco.

I know it may sound weird but during my short time living In LA, I would drive back home for the holidays, and the closer I got to home, the more everything looked so much cleaner, clearer, and brighter. Even the air was different.  In LA, the grime and city gunk clung to my hair daily. And in the Bay Area, it was rare that I had a bad hair day. That being said though, I still enjoyed the fast-paced life in LA and I still frequent it and think, ‘Could I live here again?’ Hmm…I may be a California girl, and I may love to party in LA, but my heart belongs to San Francisco. The city by the bay always calls me back.

My point being that when all of my friends were jonesing to get out of here, I never lost my appreciation of the clean air, the steep SF hills, The glorious Mt Tamalpais, and jaunts to my favorite local beach, Stinson.

Whenever someone said, ‘I’m outta here!” I would say, ‘Go. Leave and experience. You don’t appreciate what we have here…..you’ll realize and you’ll be back.’ How could one not appreciate one of the most amazing places on earth? Everyone wants to live in the Bay Area – People flock from all over the world, and I am blessed to have been born here. I know no different.

Not to say that I have not traveled. I have. I have visited some of the most beautiful cities and some of the poorest countries in the world.  And I have an appreciation for all of them – they are all special in one way or another. But my heart is here. Not to say that I could not live somewhere else for a little while; I could.  Although, I don’t live in the city I still call San Francisco my home. I am a bridge away and there as often as I can be. I will move back there someday soon. But in the mean time, I have never run short of appreciating my blessedness of living here.

And then today when I read that the State of California is headed off the fiscal rails, my heart sank.  My beloved city, resides in a state that has fallen into deep financial straits.

The state, has laid off scores of workers and put hundreds more on unpaid furloughs. It has stopped paying counties and issuing income tax refunds and halted thousands of infrastructure projects. This morning, 20,000 layoff notices will go out.

Why? Because California is nearly out of cash – Could we go bankrupt?  How is that possible that a state, with one of the most famous, most visited cities in the world, is nearly out of cash?

California has also lost access to much of the credit markets, nearly unheard of among state municipal bond issuers. Recently, Standard & Poor’s downgraded the state’s bond rating to the lowest in the nation.

California’s woes will almost certainly leave a jagged fiscal scar on the nation’s most populous state, an outgrowth of the financial triptych of above-average unemployment, high foreclosure rates and plummeting tax revenues, and the state’s unusual budgeting practices.

“No other state is in the kind of crisis that California is in,” said Iris J. Lav, the deputy director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a liberal research group in Washington.

Let me repeat….”No other state is in the kind of crisis that California is in(!)” I knew it was bad here; it has affected me and I can see the effects all around me…but this bad?

California’s legislature is dominated by democrats. No surprise here. Leaders have been unable to gather enough support from Republican lawmakers, who tend on average to be more conservative than the majority of California’s Republican voters.  Governor Schwarzenegger has failed to muster votes among lawmakers in his own party. Again, no surprise.

Furthermore, Republican leaders in the Senate and the Assembly who have agreed to get on board with a plan have been unable to persuade a few key lawmakers to join them. The package needs at least three Republican votes in each house, to join with the 51 Democrats in the Assembly and the 24 Democrats in the Senate.  We know the Republicans are holding things back. Again, no surprise here either.

“It is a dramatic time,” said Darrell Steinberg, the State Senate’s president pro tempore. “The solvency of the state is on the line. It is really quite a system where the fate of the state rests upon the shoulders of a couple of members of a minority party. The system frankly needs to be changed.”

Hmm…Isn’t that interesting. Once again, “the fate of the state rests upon the shoulders of a couple of members…”

“Yes, we need change. How many times do we have to say it?”

Oh, what’s a California girl to do?

Hi ZL:  Good to finally catch up again. And thanks for the dedication and appreciation. I’m happy my comment was an inspiration for your write. :)

Ciao ciao….
