My Version Of A ‘Dear John’ Letter:

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 3rd January 2009

You know I usually address my readers in the order that they comment but this time I had to jump ahead to john.

Dear John

You are a typical male and most likely a white one. Most men are all about themselves, while women are team players who think of others first. Women are the caretakers of this planet, not men. Women have the tendency to find the good in others even if they have to dig through the shit to find it. They search for the shining jewel that has yet to be carved out of the dull rock…the lotus flower that blossoms out of dung.

So when women speak loudly as they have here, you should shut up and listen.  They have looked for the brilliance in their men  to shine, and after carving away layer after layer looking for the jewel they find that all they can uncover is a dull rock.

These women aren’t bitching. (They aren’t asking you to take out the garbage…and so what if they are. Just do it and the ‘bitching’ will cease.) How narrow-minded you are that you see the plight of these women and their expression of their controlled lives as ‘bitching’.  I have no idea what these women endure on a daily basis. I can sympathize on one level but my empathy only goes as far as my own experiences, which are nothing compared to these women.  And, I highly doubt that any man could even come close to understanding. In fact I am sure that if the roles were reversed, you would never last one minute let alone a lifetime. I do know that men are babies and when they don’t get their way they throw a tantrum and the fight begins. War is started. Men use their brawn and women use their brains. It is as simple as that.

So to answer your question, ‘Why is it always time to dump on the men?’ Because men keep taking the same action over and over again. And women are sick of it.  They want out. Yeah these women may be fed by their husbands – yeah ya got to feed them so they have the energy to wait hand and foot on their ‘masters’.  But don’t say that these men are protecting these women or dying for them – let’s be real here.  John, are you not listening to these stories?  These women have no support of their men masters – hell they get left in a room alone with another man and it is instant death – where is the protection? And if they’re going to war it certainly isn’t to protect their women and children. No, it is to ensure the continuation of their own kind.  It is to protect their rights that they have over their women so that they can continue to enslave them and use them as they see fit.

So don’t give me this crap about all that you do for women. It’s BS. If you truly did care, if you truly did give a shit, you’d be making changes and supporting the women of this world instead of crying like a baby and feeling unappreciated.

As far as anonz…Again, you are being so small minded. I do not need to back anonz. He needs no one in that arena.  But I do feel the need to play the other side and question ….look at the big picture and see past my own little world. Are you not looking at the big picture? Obviously not.

You should be grateful that if it were not for him we would not know the truth about our government. We would still continue to believe  that they had the people’s best interest at heart. We would not know the extension of their greed. Yes, he has been a major player but if you were in his shoes what would you do differently? Would you turn it all down or would you gather up as much as you possibly could  – remember my question awhile back:  ‘If anyone could have all of the control who would it be?’ Maybe Anonz  says, ‘I want to be in control; I trust myself more than I trust anyone else to have the control. He knows these players that he is up against much better than we do. I’m not saying he is a saint – far from it, but what I am saying is that he is the only one  ‘spilling the beans’ and he continues to keep us informed even when his life is being threatened as it is today.  Is it not possible that he has bigger plans that we are just not privy to?

As I said earlier, women look for the jewel beneath the dull surface. It is our nature to want to see the good. Anonz is shedding his layers and we are all hopeful that there is a brilliant jewel underneath.

Goodbye John.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Chaghcharn:  You are so correct. I have wonderful close female relationships. It has been challenging lately only because of my circumstances,  but I know that I would never be betrayed by them in ways that you speak of. I can not imagine. The women in your country endure so much together yet you are really alone when you can not trust and confide in each other.  My hope is that we are on the road to change.
Bost, Tarin Kowt, Meymaneh, Kushka, Anjali: Thank you for writing in to Dapne, and sharing with us, ‘woman to woman’. The more that I an exposed to through stories that are written here, the more determined that I am to continue doing what I need to do to help. All I can promise is that whatever way I benefit by whatever comes my way in life will be passed on…women of this world will benefit too.
Peace out…
Magic Negro
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 31st December 2008
Oh I wish I never heard this song because it totally rubs me wrong and now like most songs I dislike, it is stuck on my mind.  This song, which spoofs veteran black activist Al Sharpton supposedly complaining that Obama is not a proper African American, has been circulating the net since last year when it appeared on the Rush Limbaugh radio show.  But has had a resurgence ever since Christmas when  Republican Chip Saltsman, campaigning to become chairman of the Republican National Committee, says he sent CDs of the song about president-elect Barack Obama, the first African American to win the White House, as a joke.
Yeah some joke. The song is called ‘Barack The Magic Negro’, and if you haven’t guessed yet, spoofs the theme tune of a children’s movie,  ‘Puff The Magic Dragon’.  The song opens with “Barack the Magic Negro lives in DC.”
The song goes: “The LA Times, they called him that ’cause he’s not authentic like me. Yeah, the guy from the LA paper said he makes guilty whites feel good. They’ll vote for him, and not for me ’cause he’s not from the hood.”
Oh, that is just bad taste
Opponents say that the ‘republican party is badly out of touch’. Using the rare word ‘negro’  supports that point. And they aren’t the only ones complaining about the distribution of the CD;  the majority of Saltsman’s political rivals are criticizing his actions as well.
RNC Comittee Chairman Mike Duncan said in a Saturday statement, “The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party. I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate, as it clearly does not move us in the right direction.”
You got that right.  The song is racist and hateful and in my opinion totally inappropriate, no matter how it was intended.
James Richardson, the RNC’s online communication manager for the 2008 election cycle, called Saltsman’s move “quite the revealing faux pas. And while I’m sure Saltsman doesn’t espouse racist sentiments, this will undoubtedly be spun as an angry, white Southerner stoking the flames of racial tensions after losing to a minority candidate.”
Yeah…well we know publicly he may not, but behind closed doors, I am sure he is espousing plenty of racial remarks.
The parody CD also which also includes the song, ‘We Hate The USA’, Wright Place, Wrong Pastor ‘ The Star Spanglish Banner’ and many more songs along with the controversial song was sent out as a Christmas gift to members of the RNC. Saltsman defends himself by saying that ‘it was just a joke.’ ‘It was meant to be light hearted.’  Uh huh…I don’t have the CD so I can’t comment on the other spoof songs but I did  listen to ‘Magic Negro’ , and I don’t think it’s funny.  If you ask me,  the song  ‘White Christmas’  was also on  Saltsman’s mind. Ah…true colors are hard to hide.
Just in case you want to hear the entire version of the song, I posted it but beware, this is not a song that you want stuck in your mind.
************
Shir Khan:  Unfortunately I ask many questions of ‘why’ too because not much seems to make sense to me. The logic of ‘why’ people do the things they do is missing in the equation of their actions.  What we see as illogical actually makes perfect sense when you realize what it all boils down to.  And that is one thing: Sex. I plan on blogging about this soon so I won’t get into it here now.  I too am sorry about your sister, and the plight of many women in this world. We must not give up.
Coleena: Chastising anonz? Where did you get that idea?  I think you read me totally wrong. I understand why he is pissed off….I would be too if someone were trying to kill me. But you must know that a man such as anonz..well let me just say, I am sure this is not the first time his life has been threatened. I was only inquiring what brought on his rage because if you have been reading my blog for the past year you would notice one small detail in his comments: Anonz never looses his cool. His spew the other day was filled with passion and emotion, and definitely directed. My gut told me his rage was brought on by something much more than just his life being threatened.
Gotta run. Peace out….
Oh…and have a safe and Happy New Year everyone! May today, tomorrow, and forevermore, bring an abundance of Peace & Love…Remember: Live it & Give it!
From ‘The Sound of Music’ To ‘The Sound Of War’
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 29th December 2008
Ya know I went to bed last night with pleasant thoughts on my mind. And we just got through watching one of my favorite movies, ‘The Sound Of Music’.  I can never tire of that movie; the story line or the music. I know it’s a bit corny and sing songy, but it is done so well. Funny, for the first time I focused on the scenery and architecture and found myself drawn to Austria and the incredible mountains. Another reason to love the movie.
The musical ends with the Nazi’s invading and the Von Trapp family having to escape to Switzerland via the beautiful Austrian mountains.  It is an uplifting movie that focuses on love and family, and war plays a very small roll. Even in the end when they are climbing the mountains, they are all smiles and love. Not exactly real life but, hey, it’s an uplifting musical, not a war movie.
The movie ends and boom…News flash, Israel has bombed Gaza City. They have launched massive airstrikes against Hamas for breaking a 6-month cease fire agreement. Hello…wake-up, welcome to the real world. This is not what I want to see as I shut my eyes and desire to dream of more peaceful and loving times.
BUT…this is reality. This is what is happening in the real world and for ‘these two’ it has been going on…in my mind way too long…and I’m sure for the Israeli and Palestinian people…forever.  I say, ‘these two’ because it always seems that any war is between two or a few dictators who gather and inspire their armies to fight. And people, innocent people get brought into the mix and end up injured or worse, killed. I know my description is simplified and naive, but to me, war is stupid and archaic.
What I really wish was that war was just a game…a board game really…a battle of the minds, where the most intelligent one with the best idea for all concerned, wins. Win with wit not with weapons. Weapons and bombs feel so yesteryear. But then I remember that many of these dictators are just plain greedy and stupid and don’t care much about the people concerned. It is not a battle of the minds but one of inflamed testosterone levels. So put the two in a pit and let them duke it out and kill each other. Funny though…war is not just global but universal. Minds that are much more intelligent than us battle it out too by going to war. More evolved wit = more evolved weapons. So much for a battle of the minds.
I know…once again I am simplifying war and being naive. But honestly, what I have seen from those that are ‘experienced’ at war, I’ll take my naiveté any day and preach my ‘peace  & love’ mantra. Somebody’s got to. And hey…we all remember the planet Sweteno – we know ‘peace & love’ amongst all, exists.  ’There’…is living proof.
And speaking of my mantra….
Khaista: I am not holding back any ‘love’ for you girls. I support and send ‘peace & love’ to all of my sisters in this world, and right now especially the ones who are dealing with the ‘craziness’ of war. And unfortunately innocent people always get harmed in war.
Gidon: I am aware of your situation, and I feel for the people involved,  but Madaline and the Girls are not available to fight for one or the other. My orders to them are to bring about peace and order and equality, not to kill unnecessarily. Killing in my mind is the last resort. My vision is preservation not devastation.
And with that said…I am signing off.
michelle
Rick Warren’s Fifteen Minutes
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 23rd December 2008
Michelle’a Holiday Picks!
If you would like to buy any of these, click on any book and you will be taken to Amazon.com.
Actually, I’ll give him two…two minutes of my two cents that is…because that is about all I can. I know little of the man except that he does not allow gays to hold membership at his Saddleback church. Although he welcomes them with open arms to attend, in hopes to change their homosexual lifestyle. Yeah, like they have a choice in the matter.
And just yesterday it was noted that he removed the anti-gay language from his church website.  Will it return after he conducts the invocation at the inauguration? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I love serendipitous moments and I love reading about them too. I just read this morning that Melissa Ethridge had one when she was invited to perform a song for the Muslim Public Affairs Council, only to be informed that the keynote speaker that night was going to be non other than Pastor Rick Warren. She wanted to cancel but her gut asked, “Are you really about peace or not?”.  This is what Melissa Ethridge had to say:
On the day of the conference I received a call from Pastor Rick, and before I could say anything, he told me what a fan he was. He had most of my albums from the very first one. What? This didn’t sound like a gay hater, much less a preacher. He explained in very thoughtful words that as a Christian he believed in equal rights for everyone. He believed every loving relationship should have equal protection. He struggled with proposition 8 because he didn’t want to see marriage redefined as anything other than between a man and a woman. He said he regretted his choice of words in his video message to his congregation about proposition 8 when he mentioned pedophiles and those who commit incest. He said that in no way, is that how he thought about gays. He invited me to his church, I invited him to my home to meet my wife and kids. He told me of his wife’s struggle with breast cancer just a year before mine.
When we met later that night, he entered the room with open arms and an open heart. We agreed to build bridges to the future.
Now I’m not saying that I approve of this man’s  beliefs or his behavior in honor of his beliefs; I don’t.  But Like Ethridge,  I am open-minded too. And, I have read that he has done an enormous amount of good towards AIDs relief in Africa.  And that he has brought important issues such as sustainability of the earth, and protection of the animals and people who live here, to the Evangelicals, where he has found many supporters among their ranks.  I’m an earth and animal advocate, so I give respect to those that are too, even if I don’t agree with everything they believe in.  Hey, I support PETA with monthly donations, but I’m not against people eating meat and I eat meat myself.
Is Warren Gay? Who Knows.  He wouldn’t be the first bigot protesting too loudly.
Lastly, Obama is a smart man.  And he has his reasons for inviting Pastor Warren to conduct the invocation. Mark mentioned the other day, Now how can we object when he invites Rev. Wright to the White House, when he as (sic) has ceremonially kissed our white anti-Christ’s ass?’  Interesting viewpoint and he does have a point.
Obama has chosen Warren for a small segment of a one-day affair, not a Cabinet post. But some say this action by the Obama administration is setting the gays back significantly.  Do you think so?
Hmm…I think his two…ah 15 minutes are over on my blog…at least until another day.
Readers:  Comments? Blog me.
Hi Mark:  Thank you for the compliments and for sharing about your family gatherings. I am always delighted to inspire and enlighten people. It is what I aspire to.  And the feedback…I am not one to censor myself here as I so enjoy just going with the flow of my feelings and thoughts.  It is one way of many in expressing my creativity freely.  However, should mainstream media ever request my opinion, I think I could blue-pencil my writes and still get my point across :) Welcome to my blog – I hope that you’ll keep reading and continue to voice your opinion.
Hi Zen Lill:  I will be home most of the day catching up so call when you are free. If I’m out running errands when you call, I’ll be available on my cell.
Lonnie:  You being gay should not threaten anyone. But some people hate change and they like control.  And some are so afraid of their own sexuality that they will go to extremes to protect in the name of self preservation. No, it is not fair, but it is what it is. However, I feel we can get ahead by  talking  about it ‘aspirationally’, and take peaceful action.
Hi Madaline:  Good to hear from you. Sounds like you and the girls have been busy. You have come along way in the training of the girls; I am sure that  even if you don’t want to admit it, you have bonded with some of them. I’m interested to hear about the exchange and the new girls that  from the other solar systems. Are they Earth-like?
In regards to this Earth, let me know as soon as you are able to research some issues that we are having here in regards to Bush’s midnight madness.
Travel safely and good luck avoiding those hot bits of stars.
I have always had a love for words.  And I especially like making them up. Unfortunately, I am limited in my use of them, as people tend to give me a funny look as if I am uneducated.  Instead it is just me having fun and taking poetic license by being creative with the english language.
And sometimes to my delight I make up a word only to later plug the word into my on-line dictionary and discover that I did not make it up…it was a word all along. I am never disappointed but only more pleased with the english language, knowing that a word that I felt was needed and missing in our language, was in fact already a word in use. Many besides me thought it was necessary.
Then yesterday I was listening to the radio, switching channels and stumbled upon an interview on public radio discussing a book that caught my interest.  The book is called, “Words That Work”: ‘It’s not what you say, it’s what people hear’ Written by Dr. Frank Luntz. I have never heard of him but maybe you have.  And from some of the reviews I have read on the book, he’s a republican pollster who’s big in the political arena, and who bashes the ‘morons on the left’, who ‘just don’t get it’ (he may be right), but supposedly when it comes to giving good advice to anyone who must communicate publicly, nobody is in a better position to explain than Frank Luntz:
Lutz is the nation’s premier communications expert who shares his wisdom on how the words we choose can change the course of business, of politics, and of life in this country. He has used his knowledge of words to help more than two dozen Fortune 500 companies grow. He’ll tell us why Rupert Murdoch’s six-billion-dollar decision to buy DirectTV was smart because satellite was more cutting edge than “digital cable,” and why pharmaceutical companies transitioned their message from “treatment” to “prevention” and “wellness.”
I have read that one of his best chapters in the book is, ‘The 10 rules of successful communication’. Here’s a little briefing on each section of the 10 rules:
1. Simplicity – Use small words. You’re trying to connect with your audiences, not impress them with your vocabulary. If you use a word they don’t understand, they will stop listening AND think that you’re pretentious.
2. Brevity – Use short sentences. If you can’t say it in a breath, people won’t understand it. You may be willing to re-read your sentences to make sure you get the point, but your audience won’t.
3. Credibility Matters – as much as if not more than philosophy. I call this believability. Stephen Colbert calls it “truthiness.” (Ooh I love the way this word rolls off my tongue! It feels delicious) It doesn’t matter if your message is true. If it sounds “unbelievable,” it won’t be believed.
4. Repetition – Consistency Matters. You will have to hammer home your message over and over before it sticks. So it better roll off your tongue (see #1 and #2).
5. Novelty – Offer something new. In product marketing, it’s “differentiation.” In politics, it’s the reason to NOT vote for the other guy. Within the non-profit world, it’s the reason someone should bother listening to you.
6. Sound – Good words sound good. (I love good sounding words which is part of the reason why I love making them up.)  If they sound boring, they are. Luntz cites a lot of tag lines and product ad copy to prove his point (M&Ms melt in your mouth…, quicker picker upper, etc.) But I think this makes sense for all messages. Use alliteration. Create an appealing cadence for your messages.
7. Speak Aspirationally. (Love this word “Aspirationally”! Did he ‘make it up? It’s not in my dictionary) No one likes a downer. Aspiration is more attractive and memorable. It inspires. Focus on the promise of what could be, not how bad things are. (Obama definitely speaks ‘aspirationally’, especially in his speeches. – Oh I’m gonna use that word – just love it!)
8. Visualize – Make them see it. Use language that conjures up mental images. One of Luntz’s favorite words is “imagine.” Tell a person to imagine something, and he will – using his favorite images and his favorite memories.
9. Ask a question. I’m big on questions. I probably ask too many but I can’t help it; I’m interested, I’m curious, and I want answers. He says questions immediately engages people in a conversation whether they want to be included or not. State a fact and they look at you with a blank stare. Ask a question and people answer it.
10. Provide Context and Explain Relevance. If you have to explain it, you’ve already lost the audience. The best messages are INSTANTLY relevant to audiences. If you have to explain a punch line, the joke isn’t funny. If you have to explain a message, it’s not as strong as it needs to be.
Hmm..some good advice? I think so.  One critic claimed this was a manual for right-wing positioning. Maybe so, but I bet the democrats wished they had him on their side. :) Well..no worries, now you can buy the book, and put his advice to good use. I have added it to my carousel above just in case I have whetted your appetite for a new read.  It is certainly on my wish list.
Hi Mark:  I will agree with you…Tiger has redifined the ‘game’ and thankfully Obama is doing the same. This redefinition should make it real interesting.  I’m on Obama’s team. However, I like Zen Lill, wish that we could all see us as one. I have plans that one day we all will.
Hey ZL: I am working today till late tonight. How about we chat tomorrow?  Anxious to hear about the new job – congratulations!
Hello Anonz:  Yeah, well we all know about ‘intentions’  - that’s just it; they are only ‘intentions’. And when you have the intentions of one group that doesn’t match the intentions of another group, the group with the control will make their intentions concrete. Why our idiot senate allowed these crooks to have the cash with no strings attached is beyond my comprehension. Stupidity is one word that comes to mind.
So guess what? The Americans will find out just how bad the Bush Badmin were/are because my ‘intention’ is to use my power and ‘connections’ to reveal it here; on my blog. You being a connection, as our resident ‘deep throat’, as well as our resident Earthling Girl, a member of the girlz, Madaline, I wouldn’t be so sure that criminal action doesn’t take place. Ahh…Obama in office wasn’t enough proof of what a girl can do? Merry Christmas to you too. :)
Speaking of…I know you are out in deep space Maddie, but I also know you are reading and taking action where necessary.
Bye Bye….
Gratefully your blog host,
