The Sly FOX is at it again: The smear tactics continue

Fox is up to their devious dirty deeds again.  And this time they’re going after Obama through the side door, by attacking the one by his side: Michelle Obama.  When I first heard the name calling, a few weeks ago, “Obama’s baby mama”, I couldn’t believe it.  And then I heard FOX ‘confusing’ Obama’s name with Osama’s – yeah right – Let get voters subliminally ’cause we don’t have the confidence to get them fairly.  And then the latest calling Barack and Michelle’s supportive fist bump a “terrorist fist jab.”  How transparent can one be? They certainly aren’t being mediagenic when it comes to Obama. Oh…but why am I so surprised…This is just the norm for FOX News.  Really what type of people are these mediots and how do they sleep at night? 

Want to do something about it? I did.  I signed the petition that was sent to me by MoveOn.org, and so have 428,000 others in an effort to tell FOX to stop their racist smears against Barack Obama. The plan is to reach 500,000 sigs, which will draw the attention that they/we need in the media to put pressure on those that advertise with FOX. So are you in?

ZL: I love that quote! It reminds me of my favorite visualization. I am standing on a hill top and it feels like I’m on another planet; there are two suns laying low in the sky. My arms are open wide and high above my head. I have a huge smile on my face that turns into laughter as I spin around feeling such joy while the warmth of the suns shines on me.  Just writing it here makes me feel so good. I am not sure where this vision came from but I cherish it and see it often.

Anyway…back to you Lisa…I have yet to go to Guam…almost made it there a few years back – My kind of weather!  I have a friend that lives there and although we don’t talk that much we try to see each other when she visits.  I would love to go there someday soon. So you often see space ships? You say that so casually; I believe it must be a common occurrence, no?

Happy Birthday America!

“Land of the free and home of the brave!’ ‘Come to America where you too can live the American dream!’….’that is if your government will step aside and allow you Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness.’

I decided in honor of our great nation….god that sounds so canned…oh well…I decided to share with you a section of ’The Declaration of Independence’, a so-called radical document of its time. 

‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.’

Let’s break it down:

It states that ‘all men are created equal’ – Yes, but let’s leave out penis size and intelligence, and then we can say ‘all men are created equal’. (chuckle:)  But the more important question to ask is, ‘Are they treated equally’? We all know the answer to that one. Need I say more?

Okay next:  We are endowed by our Creator ‘with certain unalienable rights’ - meaning, rights that are absolute, non-negotiable, ones natural rights. Hmm…sounds good…looks good on paper, but let’s look at those rights: ‘Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness’. ‘Life’: Okay, we are living, breathing human beings…but it is also the right to grow and live…you know, no one should harm another person by taking their life from them, aka: ‘Don’t kill another.’ Unfortunately this happens every day.  ‘Liberty’: FREEDOM!! – George Michael sang it best. But seriously, it gives us the power to choose. And not in the sense of being unrestrained but more in the sense of being able to choose different possibilities. And the last natural right: ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ – Meaning, go for it – your dreams, what ever…BUT, in the process, make sure that you don’t harm anyone or violate their natural rights in the process. This is where ‘do unto others…’ might come in handy.

Next….’That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, (We won’t even bring up the lack of women here) deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.’ – That’s us – we are the governed ones.  We are giving them, the government, power through our permission; to protect our rights from threat. Enough said. Clear? 

‘That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.’: Basically if the government is treating us unfairly and denying us our rights: ‘Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness’, then it is not protecting our rights.  When all is said and done, if the government is not protecting our rights then they can be replaced. Uh..can we replace them NOW!

So..Readers: These are my thoughts. Maybe you feel differently – share. How do you think our government is holding up these days? Blog me.

Oh…and let me just say…I’m not down on our forefathers…not at all. I’ll use Anonz’s words, ’cause they’re good ones, and say that, ‘The Declaration of Independence’ was an idea that felt good. I genuinely feel that it was written with good intentions. It’s just too bad that as time went on the good intentions got lost somewhere between selfishness and greed, and in the forms of racism and sexism to name a few.

Do I sound like I am ending this on a downer note?  I don’t think I am being untruthful…but it is the 4th if July, Independence Day.  It is a celebratory time!  The United States is still the best country to live in. And don’t get me wrong…I am so grateful for all that I have and most of all for all of the choices and possibilities available to me.  We may be ignorant at times but we are blissful! (tee hee hee:)

Remember he’s just like a puppy even with the added ‘two’….or have you persuaded Tal to succumb to a wish? Ha ha! Maybe.  Sorry Anonz to make you the butt of the joke, but I couldn’t resist. Just funnin’ with maddie at your expense. You have proven you are much more than just a handsome face. Speaking of…how is the face?  And the added two?  You don’t have to answer that :) Stop me now please…(I just can’t get dick off my mind today!:) 

Anyway…back to maddie…

I have been emailing you and trying to talk to you for days on my blog – Are the lines down? I think not. Frankly, it is BS that you and the girls have taken a leave, let me remind you, an unauthorized one. Po’d that I haven’t unleashed you and the girls? Or just too busy…but too busy to show face? Too busy to entertain us with your bitch badinage and enlighten us with your worldly knowledge? Am I sounding a bit sarcastic here? – excuusse me. I don’t mean to be…

What is a Politician doing in the Doctor’s office?

The woman’s right to choose is back on my agenda today. Are you familiar with  the abortion law in South Dakota? Thanks to the signature of Gov. Mike Rounds, the bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman’s life. It would make no exception for cases of rape or incest. Hmm..let’s see, could it be as Adam pointed out a few days ago that this is because ‘women are inherently a distraction or impediment to the accomplishments of man…’ Oh so of course it is her fault for getting raped, therefore…sorry, you have to have the child. This makes me ill.  I see many women saying, ‘Fuck that.’ and crossing over the state line. What if crossing the line wasn’t a solution?

When The Governor signed this bill in 2006, he expected the law would be tied up in court for years and the law would therefore not take effect unless South Dakota state got the case to the US Supreme Court and won. This is promising because the Legislature expects the law to give the Supreme Court an opportunity to overturn Roe, making an abortion ban constitutional.  It would take 5 justices to overturn Roe. Remember Madaline’s STR? (Scalia, Thomas and Roberts – the trio of crooks she mentioned in a few blogs back) Scalia and Thomas have clearly indicated that they would vote to overturn Roe, and abortion opponents have high hopes that fellow conservatives Roberts and Alito will join them.  

I agree with Madaline.  The Supreme Court should be represented by at least 5 women. Where were the voices of the American women when all of these men got appointed? Including myself? – I am to blame too. I have to be honest, and this is no excuse, but my head was in the sand when it came to this and other important issues that could now have a lasting effect on the livelihood of myself and women in this country. 

So what’s next? Now, they are inching their way even further to make an abortion ban constitutional and one way they are going about it is by preying on those getting the abortions by STRessing them out through an emotional guilt trip in the process. How are they doing this? Now the ‘Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted a preliminary injunction against a South Dakota law that requires doctors to tell women seeking abortions that the procedure ends a human life, deciding that the law is likely constitutional.’  What if a doctor doesn’t believe that an abortion ends a human life?  To me this is all about legislating a religious belief, not about legislating a fact.  Who decides when life begins and when it becomes a human?  For everyone it is different. This isn’t about providing factual information to the patient; it’s about pushing ideologies.  This places politicians between women and their doctors. For it to be a law that doctors must tell their patients this, that they must read ideological language to women seeking abortions is completely mindless not to mention totally bias. This violates the doctors free speech rights by enforcing them to say something that they may not believe.  And just as bad, they intend to put a guilt trip on the woman for doing it by preying on her vulnerable emotions.  This is what the Doctors are now required to say to these women:

‘The abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being.’  And…they must also say that they have a right to continue a pregnancy and that abortion may cause women psychological harm, including thoughts of suicide.’  Can you believe this? Who says this is a whole, separate, unique, living human being?  Fine if you believe that but don’t put an emotional guilt trip on someone who doesn’t, and don’t make it a law for a doctor to have to tell what he may not believe.   And why not present the other side? What about women who have a child and have thoughts of suicide? Those women exist too.  Oh yeah, to STR there is no other side. The court has given South Dakota doctors 21 days to start complying with the law.

I know many of us live in California and we could never imagine something like this happening in our own liberal state, but we must look at what is happening in our own country and not get complacent in our own little worlds. Our rights are being taken away, chipped away on a daily basis. It is not enough to tell our daughters; we must show action too and be exemplary in our behavior.

For me, my strongest passion has always been to protect the animals and the environment, for they are the voiceless.  But I have come to realize that unless I as a woman am considered an equal to a man, my voice as a woman will mean nothing….My presence a mere distraction and my actions something to tolerate.  I can’t let that happen.

Is it possible that Roe v. Wade could be turned over in this day and age?

Three times this past week I have gotten something in the mail from either the Center for Reproductive Rights or the Feminist Majority Foundation.   I decided that maybe I should open up one and see what was going on.  It wasn’t the first time that I have received mail like this but it has been really a long time since I had read one. It’s not that I don’t care about women’s right- you know I do!  But I seem to spend most of my volunteering time for those that can’t speak for themselves: The animals, and lately for the environment with this spray thing still being fought in Northern california which will have an effect on humans too. But that is another story.

Anyway, I decided to open up the envelopes that were collecting on my desk.  The first one I read shocked me.  Why? -  I don’t know. I am aware that living in California, is much like living in another country. It is so easy to just go on with my day and forget that people in other states are constantly fighting for their right to choose….a right that I don’t take for granted but a right that I know I have, at least for the time being.   But, it is a different story in Jackson Mississippi.  Haley Barbour, the Governor, along with anti-abortion extremists  are vowing to shut down the last abortion clinic in the entire state! The entire state! This is unbelievable but it is happening.

Tina asked for a tubal ligation after her fourth child, but the hospital no longer offered the service. Now she has eight children and is trying to feed her family on $3.28 a day. 

Another woman Susan was advised by her doctor not to have any more children because of severe health risks  – yet her doctor was prohibited from providing contraception or sterilization. 

And in Hungary:

A woman under going surgery for a miscarriage, was asked to give permission for a caesarean section.  She was unaware that the forms she signed contained consent for sterilization. The words were barely legible and written in Latin. Only after she was sterilized did she discover she had agreed to a procedure that would make her permanently infertile! 

Can you imagine any of this happening to you? 

Threats to reproductive freedom are real and gaining strength everyday – It’s right in line with pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control because of ‘their’ moral beliefs.  I would go ape if my pharmacist refused my right to pop a pill.  

Look at (EC) Emergency Contraception. In 2006 it finally got approved but with unacceptable limitations: Access was limited to only women over the age of 18 with a government-issued identification, and who were not afraid to ask the pharmacist to get it from behind the counter.  This limitation effects the most vulnerable population:  Young women and undocumented women.  

All over the world including our own country,  it is a constant fight for women to be able to choose, and for women to feel safe and supported in their choices.  

But for the first time in decades, we women are truly in danger of losing our essential right to choose. Roe v. Wade is under attack by those who feel we should not have a reproductive choice.  The forces are strong and determined….

Just last April three decades of law was swept away in one year. That is all the time it took for Bush’s Supreme Court to overturn thirty years of precedent by upholding  the Federal Abortion Ban. They might as well have put up a banner stating that women’s health is no longer  a real concern! What does this mean for women? Well for starters, the Supreme Courts Abortion Ban Ruling now paves the way for state and federal legislatures to  approve additional bans on abortions as early as 12 weeks, even on those that doctors say are safe and medically necessary. Readers: Are you aware of this? Anonz:  This is right in light with those ‘appointed’ Supreme Court judges that you mentioned in your comment….more on that later.

Do you realize how much is at stake with what has just happened? Already ten states have introduced sixteen bans that criminalize abortion! Okay…let’s paint a picture…You’re having sex with your man; and you happen to be on ‘the pill’. (Thankfully you have a pharmacist that is happy to fill your prescription!) And it just so happens that you had a cold for the past few days so you’ve been pumping up on the vit C – bad move…the overdose of it negated the pill and surprise…you’re pregnant. You’re also screwed ’cause now you need an abortion. You happen to be living in one of those states where abortion is a felony and physicians performing the operation can go to prison. What’s a woman to do?

I know what we can’t do….We can’t get lazy or complacent on this one. A complete reversal of Roe v. Wade is now within the realm of possibility.

Sex and the City

So I gathered with a bunch of girls for a pre-party to the opening of the ‘Sex and the City’ movie last night.  And I know we weren’t the only ones  anxiously waiting for the opening night to come. In fact as I was driving to Marin to meet the girls, I received a phone call from another ‘sex..’ fan inviting me to another party/movie that evening – she had acquired an extra ticket to the show.  I of course could not make it and wished her a wonderful time. There were parties all over the country with women decked out in their ‘sex’ attire.  Our party wasn’t  any different. We got all dressed up with the appropriate ‘sex’ shoes and sipped on champagne and all sorts of libations while munching on treats and chit chatting. It was a marvelous beginning to a girls night out.  The Energy was high and by the time we strolled to the theater we were too!

Amazingly all seven of us got to sit together which was highly advantageous since we had a bottle or two of bubbly to share in the theater – giggles all around :) The movie was simply entertaining at it’s best and the costume changes were a visual feast to say the least. Even though, I have to admit some were questionable…but all in fun. Not to mention the usual witty script doused with sexual connotations throughout, AND some pretty hot sex scenes, if I may add. Juicy and delicious! 

I don’t want to give anything away…if you are a ‘sex…’ fan, this is a must see.  And even if you aren’t – believe it or not, one of my girlfriends has NEVER EVER seen an episode, and she was laughing and crying throughout the entire movie.  Her fav character?  Samantha. She loved it and is now ‘hooked’.

I loved it just as I expected I would.  There were some pretty intense scenes between the girls and as usual I am always taken by their love and commitment to each other.  It is a your typical chick flick but not typical in any other way.  I absolutely loved it and would see it again. And hey guys…there were men there too diggin’ it.

Well, well…what a delightful surprise! Hello - Welcome back Anonz! - You are a true hero!  Happy that you made it back with your skull in tact and your mind still sharp.  How are you? You have missed a lot – how much back tracking on my blog have you done? All caught up? 

I am sure that my readers would appreciate seeing your photos, as well as Zen Lill’s readers – why not send some to both of us if you don’t mind.  I would be happy to post them.  In fact as I am thinking about it…why not be a guest blogger?   You could tell an adventure or two….I don’t mean to but I tend to push too hard too sometimes :) But I know my readers and I would find your ravings very interesting and revealing to say the least. Your anonymity is safe with me I can assure you. So…what do you think?  Blog or email me.

Anyway…you are living in our neck of the woods – how wonderful is that? Look forward to hearing more from you.

ZL:  You know I would love to see you! Not sure where, but it has been too long.  Let’s chat via my email…that weekend may or may not work with the ‘house’ thing and now I’ve got two other ‘staging’ jobs.  Looks like my new career is on it’s way.  Oh yeah, guess I forgot….I did want to blog about ‘staging’ at some point.  Stay tuned.
