Mika Brzezinski Calls Joe Scarborough ‘Chauvinistic,’ Blowup Ensues (VIDEO)

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski had a huge fight on Thursday’s “Morning Joe.”

The blowup came after the two argued repeatedly about the diversity in President Obama’s cabinet, which has become an issue in recent days as one white man after another is nominated to top positions. Scarborough said that a Republican would be facing far more criticism than a Democrat for such actions. Brzezinski defended Obama, saying he had had women at all levels of his government and that his policies had benefited women.

Scarborough began jokingly mentioning things like the Lily Ledbetter act under his breath. Brzezinski grew increasingly angry.

“You need to be quiet right now,” she said, before really taking the plunge.

“I’m actually trying to ignore the — I’m afraid to use the word, because it will not be good for you, because you’re being chauvinistic right now,” she said. “It’s not funny.”

“You’re calling the wrong guy a chauvinist,” Scarborough said angrily, as Brzezinski laughed. She started to turn away, and he snapped his fingers at her to get her to pay attention.

“Stop! Let me help you,” she said. “No! Let me help you,” he snapped back. “You really, knowing me and seeing me work around here for five years, you want to call me a chauvinist on television?”

“I said the way you’re acting is chauvinistic, especially the way you were handling this conversation,” she said. “It’s not funny.”

Later, Brzezinski apologized for her choice of words.

“Now that things are less heated, I didn’t like the approach that you took, but just for the record, you are not a chauvinist,” she said. “I apologize for calling you one.”

*****

Kelly: Thank you for pointing that out. I let my anger get the worst of me and wrote irresponsibly. I do that very rarely and always over issues that really get to me. I did not mean to wish upon anyone that they do not get their day in court, but as I reread my write it seems apparent that was what I was implying. My mistake. So yes, I do agree with you, everyone should have the right to representation and their day in court. There may be innocents here, along with the perpetrators, and they both deserve a fair trial.

Howie: What a nice compliment to give my blog. You certainly have a fan club here that looks forward to you being here.  So sorry to hear that you are ill. I HOPE you are home sweet home soon too. Take very good care.

Zen Lill: Happy Birthday coming up to Miss Lily! I will give a shout out soon.

Support Gay Marriage Or…

Good morning!

Women be aware….if you don’t support gay women, and their right to gay marriage…

Gay Women Will Marry Your Boyfriends (VIDEO)

Earlier this month, College Humor released a video with an ultimatum for all the straight guys out there: vote in favor of marriage equality, or gay men are going to start marrying your girlfriends.

But Unsolicited Project has taken things a step further by giving straight women the same tough love. They need to adjust their politics, or say goodbye to all their precious boyfriends.

Tuni: I asked the questions about women but didn’t address the questions about men, such as what you broached. Yes…Where is the prosecution of this sick men?! They should die a slow death in front of their peers, with tiny needles sticking inside their wee wee weapons, with their balls cut off and bleeding to death. An eye for an eye…that’s how I’ve always been. Especially when I am seething from the brutality of men towards women.

**********

Readers: Funny. You know this could happen though. Gay women would be the perfect mate for straight. Men would never have to worry about them cheating with their friends or any another man for that matter. And what is a man’s biggest fantasy? Hello…two (or more) women having sex. The only threat or competition a man has is if she leaves him for another woman. So girls…support your sisters or… :)

Zen Lill: Happy New Year to you!

Tuni: An eye for an eye.

Zora: My thoughts exactly.

Clayton: You stupid fuck. I’m so glad the girls of this blog spoke up – I wouldn’t expect anything less. Why do women need more protection? Wha’at?! Hello open your eyes – MEN are the ones doing the abuse, the perps, the rapists, abusers, etc…whatever you want to call them, they’re sick MEN. Don’t pretend you don’t know. I take that back, you’re not stupid – you know. You are pussy of a man (and I don’t even like calling you that name because a pussy is a good thing) pulling what’s equal to the “race” card – pulling the “women” card.

Ugh…I’m done with you. I’m out of here.

The forum is now open – Blog me.

Flap Your Lips Friday

Good morning.

This girl has been on my mind when I go to sleep at night and when I wake up. I just can’t seem to get the vision of her out of my head, imagining what the last few hours of her life must’ve been like. I’m speaking of the young girl from India who weeks ago was brutally beaten and raped by 6 men on a bus…and eventually taken by death while struggling to survive in the hospital. She died from a heart attack, and the fact that her body could not handle the disgusting abuse from having a metal pole shoved inside of her ruining her organs and ripping out her intestines. That is the sick reality of it, from the abuse of sick men in a country where incidents such as these recur with painful regularity.

Where is the love of women? Where is the protection of women?

Not in India, and it is certainly not showing up in our own country. Yesterday the GOP let women down once again.

House GOP Lets Violence Against Women Act Passed By Senate Die Without A Vote

WASHINGTON — Despite a late-stage intervention by Vice President Joe Biden, House Republican leaders failed to advance the Senate’s 2012 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, an embattled bill that would have extended domestic violence protections to 30 million LGBT individuals, undocumented immigrants and Native American women.

“The House leadership would not bring it up, just like they wouldn’t bring up funding for Sandy [hurricane damage] last night,” said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), a key backer of the Senate version of the bill, in an interview with HuffPost. “I think they are still so kowtowing to the extreme on the right that they’re not even listening to the moderates, and particularly the women, in their caucus who are saying they support this.”

In April, the Senate with bipartisan support passed a version of VAWA that extended protections to three groups of domestic violence victims who had not been covered by the original law, but House Republicans refused to support the legislation with those provisions, saying the measures were politically driven. Instead, they passed their own VAWA bill without the additional protections. In recent weeks, however, even some House Republicans who voted for the pared-down House bill have said they would now support the broader Senate bill — and predicted it would pass if Republican leaders let it come to the floor for a vote.

“I absolutely would support the Senate bill,” Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) told HuffPost in late December, speculating that other House Republicans, namely GOP congresswomen, “are very supportive of that.”

Asked if he thought the Senate bill would pass in the House if it came up for a vote, Cole replied, “My judgment is yes.”

Last spring, only two of the 25 House Republican women — Reps. Judy Biggert (Ill.) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Fla.). — opposed the House VAWA reauthorization, on the grounds that it didn’t go far enough. But in the last couple of weeks, some others signaled they would now support the broader Senate bill.

“I think that we should be very open-minded about the Senate provisions,” said Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.).

“I would be in that category of being open-minded to that,” said Rep. Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) had been guiding House negotiations on the matter, huddling with Republican congresswomen last month and even working directly with Biden to try to get a deal. House-Senate talks appeared to have broken down over House Republicans’ refusal to accept a key protection for Native American women that was included in the Senate bill.

“Majority Leader Cantor worked hard seeking to move the bill forward so we can protect victims and prosecute offenders,” said Cantor spokesman Doug Heye.

Murray said she is “absolutely” planning to reintroduce the bill in 2013. If the Republican Party is concerned about its relationship with women, she added, it should “put that concern to action.”

“They have the opportunity to do it now,” Murray said. “They have the opportunity to take up this bill and show women and men that they understand that women’s rights are important.”

Readers: We have women in India screaming and protesting for protection. And yet we still have women here voting for republicans, men who don’t give a damn about our sisters.(!) I am so sick of the GOP’s excuses, saying that the reason they are not supporting something is because it is politically driven. They would never use this term if it was something affecting their own livelihood. But when it comes to women…oh they can wait.

How much more will republican women take from their men before they say it is enough, and leave the party who cares little about women, a party who only wants to control them? Really, I want to hear from you. What excuse do you have? Because the women in India have had enough. They are brutalized everyday. Don’t think that if men here had the chance to rape as they please, they wouldn’t jump on the opportunity here to abuse and rape any woman…OTW or white. Are you going to give them the opportunity? Where is the support to protect our sisters?

Blog me.

Carlos: Thanks for taking the article and breaking it down into simple logic and fact. Obama is killing the GOP. They would support him more if he was a inept president, one that didn’t outshine all the past presidents and give OTW’s HOPE that they too have a chance to be in the White House.  Yep, they would’ve loved it if he only had lasted one term – Obama – his presidency was just a “fluke.” But the fact that he got voted in again for a second term and has now proved once again that he is far superior to his 43 previous white predecessors, is just unbearable to the GOP.

OTW’s now know that it wasn’t just a “fluke” that Obama won the first time around. Now they know…they have the confidence, that this can be done again by an OTW. The repubs can’t stand that fact alone. They want no OTW to ever think that this could happen again. God forbid another OTW in the White House?! No!! Oh…but it can and it will, and the thought that it could be again is just unfathomable. Why else would they do everything in their power, including ruining our country and the world economy, to stop Obama.

On a side note…I’m going to give Lawrence O’Donnell a plug again because last night I watched The Last Word and I thought his rewrite segment “Why it was BFD for Republicans to raise taxes” was exceptionally perceptive. O’Donnell knows what it is like to deal with Repubs on a daily basis – he did it himself. A good watch if you want more clarity on Obama’s brilliance.

Peace out.

The Results Spelled Out: What’s on the Tax Deal

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 3rd January 2013

Bookmark and Share

Good morning!

“Obama is a good negotiator”…”Obama doesn’t know how to negotiate”….”Obama caved”…”the republicans caved”…”Obama didn’t do what he said he would do”…”Obama did exactly what he said he would.”

I realize that sometimes it can be hard to see just how much Obama has done for this country with all of the lies and rhetoric being tossed about. One really has to move through the shit to get to the real clear picture, and sometimes clearing it out can take awhile. Be patient, the good stuff is usually there shining brightly just waiting to be seen.

By The Numbers

Jan 2, 2013 | By ThinkProgress War Room

What’s in the Tax Deal

After weeks of tense negotiations and drama (a detailed blow-by-blow can be found here), Congress finally managed to solve at least part of its latest manufactured crisis. After the country had technically already gone over the so-called “fiscal cliff,” the Senate overwhelmingly passed a compromise tax plan early Tuesday morning and the House followed suit late Tuesday night after a rebellion by rank-and-file House Republicans petered out.

Here’s some numbers to know about the deal (officially called the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012):

– 2: The number of decades since there has been a major tax increase on the wealthy.

– 39.6: The rate those earning more than $400,000 ($450,000 for a couple) will pay, the same as under President Clinton.

– 99 percent: The percentage of taxpayers who will keep Bush-era income tax rates.

– $73,633: The additional taxes to be paid by the average member of the top 1 percent.

– 77 percent: The percentage of household who will see a tax increase thanks to the expiration of the payroll tax holiday in place over the past two years. The expiration of the payroll tax cut and failure to replace it with something similar will deal a significant blow to the economy.

– $600 BILLION: The amount of new revenue raised by the deal after accounting for money saved by decreased borrowing costs. An additional approximately $130 BILLION is saved through decreased interest on the debt.

– $1.8 TRILLION: The amount of spending cuts put in place by President Obama so far, resulting in a roughly 2.5:1 ratio of programmatic spending cuts to revenue.

– 2 MILLION: The number of unemployed Americans whose extended unemployment benefits will continue.

– 20+ MILLION: The number of people who benefit from vital tax credits for students and both poor and middle class families that were extended for five years.

– 37,000: The number of jobs saved by the extension of wind energy tax credits.

– 3,730: The number of households that will be subject to the estate tax, the rate of which was increased slightly to 40 percent with a $5 million exemption. Without a deal, the rate would’ve reverted to 55 percent with a $1 million exemption. As the Atlantic’s Matt O’Brien noted, “Only 3,730 households will pay the estate tax next year if the exemption is set at $5 million, versus 47,170 if it’s set at $1 million.”

The deal also many other provisions, including help for underwater homeowners. Another element of the deal prevented a huge spike in the price of milk that would’ve occurred because House Republicans refused to pass a Farm Bill. Numerous special interest tax provisions, including for NASCAR and rum, also made it into the final package.

The deal also puts off automatic spending cuts known as a sequester for an additional two months. The president and Congress must now identify hundreds of billions of dollars in additional savings and revenues in order to cancel the remainder of these across-the-board spending cuts. While Republicans are once again likely to demand massive cuts to programs like Medicare and Social Security, the president reiterated that the next phase of deficit reduction must also be balanced.

Separately, we officially reached the nation’s borrowing limit on December 31 and extraordinary measures will only prevent the nation from defaulting on its obligations for approximately two months. Congress must do its job and raise the debt ceiling in order to make good on the cost of tax cuts, wars, and other spending Congress has already authorized. As the president noted last night, raising the debt ceiling is not up for debate and we will not repeat the debacle Republicans caused in 2011 when they nearly forced the nation into a default that would’ve triggered a global economic calamity.

*********

Readers: Keep the faith that Obama is doing the best job that he can considering what he is continually up against every day. If we only really knew how this country would’ve ended up we would be bowing to him daily in overwhelming gratitude. In my opinion we still should be bowing, because he is doing an incredible job for our country…and the world.

On a side note – If you need help clearing away the shit to get to the real stuff,  Lawrence O’Donnell has been my pick as the one to listen to lately – his show isn’t called “The Last Word” for nothing.

Patricia: Thanks – I am looking forward to her show tonight.

Peace out.

Good morning!

How are you feeling after that “fiscal fall?” Not bad? There is so much to be said and you all are saying it. My mind is mud this morning. Not something you usually hear from the editor of a daily blog – Not feeling very BABE this morning. But hey, it is what it is.

Fiscal Cliff Deal Passed By Congress After Republicans Cave

WASHINGTON — A day late and trillions of dollars short, Congress passed a hard-won deal to ease large portions of the “fiscal cliff.”

The nation started sliding down that cliff on New Year’s Day, after lawmakers dithered for more than a year over solving the combination of across-the-board spending cuts and tax hikes that began taking effect with the start of the year.

The Senate passed a compromise at 2 a.m. Tuesday. The House threatened to blow up the deal, but reluctantly followed suit 20 hours later, ultimately passing a permanent extension of many Bush-era tax cuts by an overwhelming vote of 257 to 167.

The weeks-long debacle of tax negotiations brought into stark relief how focused the nation’s Capitol remained on the deficit and debt, while focus on the jobs crisis nearly vanished, along with talk of economic devastation from climate change.

The Senate-crafted compromise, agreed to only the day before in lengthy negotiations between Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, was far smaller than the $4 trillion “grand bargain” that many lawmakers have sought since 2010, and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle expressed disappointment with a deal that angered both the left and right.

Republicans were upset the deal did not have cuts.

“We not only need to grow the economy but we also have to address the fundamental causes of our debts and deficits, and that’s out-of-control spending, obligations that we have not got the financial wherewithal to meet,” said Rep. Dave Camp, (R-Mich.) the top Republicans on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.

“So this is a first step — permanent tax policy that then sets the stage for comprehensive and fundamental tax reform and then addressing out- of-control spending. So this will be several steps. This is an important one.”

Liberals were unhappy Democrats left out a number of their goals for the bill, and that they did not push for setting the upper limit for retaining the old tax rates at $250,000 — a promise Obama campaigned and won on. Obama had hoped to raise $1.6 trillion in revenue over 10 years. The bill only raises $620 billion, suggesting to many Democrats that future deficit reduction could come from cutting cherished programs.

“We’re going to look back on this night and regret it,” said Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.).

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) said passing the legislation was as if, “someone stopped hitting you in the head with a hammer, and you’re supposed to say ‘Thanks so much!’”

Yet most Democrats were willing to back the measure.

“Yes, to all of those who say all the other things that don’t happen in the bill — I don’t know any piece of legislation I’ve ever voted for that did everything that I thought it should do,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said. “While this bill doesn’t accomplish all that we need to do … it is a good way for us to have a happy start to a new year by taking this first step.”

Democrats also were pleased that for the first time in decades Republicans signed onto a measure that leaves taxes higher this year than the year before.

“This legislation breaks the iron barrier that for far too long has prevented additional tax revenues from the very wealthiest,” said Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich.) “It raises $620 billion in revenue by achieving the president’s goal of asking the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans to pay more while protecting 98 percent of families. That’s right — that’s what it does. I want to emphasize this contrary to propaganda coming from the other side — it prevents 98 percent of businesses from another tax increase.”

Despite the general unhappiness with the measure, which President Barack Obama has said he’ll sign, it does achieve some major policy changes, chief among them making permanent the Bush-era tax cuts for couples earning under $450,000 and individuals earning under $400,000.

The bill also keeps the estate tax threshold at $5 million, extends emergency federal unemployment benefits for one more year, and delays for two months the “sequester” that made up the spending cut portion of the cliff. It also extends the stimulus-boosted child tax credit and the college tuition credit for five years, individual and business tax breaks for two years, and the Medicare “doc fix” for one year, preventing a 27 percent payment cut for physicians. The Alternative Minimum Tax will be permanently fixed, and the the farm bill will be extended for one year.

Though it has received little attention from the press, the White House and congressional leaders, the decision not to include an extension of the payroll tax holiday is among the most consequential, and will lead to lower take-home pay for workers. A person earning $50,000 will see roughly $1,000 less. Economists have warned that allowing the tax holiday to expire saps spending power from consumers while demand in the economy is still fragile.

Meanwhile, the deal contains a major giveaway to Wall Street, which won a 20 percent rate on dividends above $400,000, a rate that otherwise would’ve risen to the Clinton-era rate of 39.6. (That doesn’t include an additional 3.8 percent that will be implemented to pay for health care reform, another tax hike that received little attention.)

The deal is also chock full of goodies for corporate America, including millions for NASCAR and Hollywood, and billions to extend overseas corporate tax breaks and other loopholes.

Republicans in the House spent much of Tuesday threatening to blow up the bill over the the lack of spending cuts. They went so far as to propose amending the measure with a $328 billion package of budget reductions, but facing the likelihood that a revised measure would fail muster with Democrats, caved in after two lengthy meetings behind closed doors.

Having lost a battle that many of them fought for years, the GOP was looking forward to future chances to extract cuts, likely setting up more last-second showdowns in March. That’s because the two-month delay of the sequester ends March 3, right around the time the nation is expected to reach its borrowing limit — which Congress has to extend to pay the bills. Funding for the federal government also runs out on March 27.

The GOP sees each of those as leverage points.

“We still have more opportunities. We’ve got the debt ceiling coming, sequestration,” said John Fleming (R-La.) among the first in his party to acknowledge that with the Bush tax cuts having expired at midnight, there was little else the GOP could do beyond take the senate deal.

“So we’re going to get taxes off the table,” Fleming said. “The president can’t say, ‘We’ve go to raise taxes first before we get to spending cuts.’ We will have already done that. Now the topic will be spending cuts, from this point out.”

The disarray on the Republican side had many wondering if House Speaker John Boehner’s job was in danger, but most members said it was not, and that Boehner ably managed the eruption of discontent in his ranks.

“I think he showed he’s trying to listen to the conference in regards to giving everybody an equal shot at moving something forward,” said Rep. Richard Nugent (R-Fla.), who opposed the bill. “But you also have to be pragmatic about what’s going to pass.”

UPDATE: 11:57 p.m. — Obama hailed the deal as evidence that bipartisanship can happen even in the polarized Congress, but he also signaled that he was keenly aware that many Republicans intend to seize on the next three crisis moments, especially the debt ceiling. He vowed he would not let them.

“I will not have another debate with this Congress over whether or not they should pay the bills they’ve already racked up through the laws that they passed,” Obama said in brief speech from the White House. “Let me repeat. We can’t not pay bills that we’ve already incurred. If Congress refuses to give the United States government the ability to pay these bills on time, the consequences for the entire global economy would be catastrophic, far worse than the impact of a fiscal cliff.”

And he appealed for lawmakers to face the approaching deadlines with greater calm and the sense of bipartisanship they managed to achieve on New Year’s Day.

“The one thing I think hopefully in the new year we’ll focus on is seeing if we can put a package like this together with a little bit less drama, a little less brinksmanship, not scare the heck out of folks quite as much,” Obama said.

Readers: Speaking of the talk of how the CBO scores this – saying that this bill adds 4 trill to the deficit, Maddows’ blog has a good write about that price tag.

Before I end I just have to say again, Obama doesn’t write legislation he just signs it. If you don’t like what’s happening get the repubs out in 2014, and vote in those who will support what you do want. Simple and not so. Speaking of not liking what’s happening…The fact that Boehner is not wanting to give relief to Sandy victims says it all. This guy has got to go.

Anywho…I realize that lately I have been posting late. What can I say, the holidays gave me some time off and I’ve been staying up late and sleeping in late. I don’t suspect this will go on much longer but I am sure loving it. I expect to be back into my routine by Monday.

Blog me.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog.
