“There must be a God…”

Colbert Discovers Bill O’Reilly’s Theology: ‘There Must Be A God Because I Don’t Know How Things Work’ (VIDEO)

On Thursday night’s “Colbert Report,” Stephen did a segment on his favorite Fox News man, Bill “Papa Bear” O’Reilly, and his recent quarrel with an atheist over the existence of God. Not only did Colbert discover O’Reilly’s real theology, but astrophysicist and friend of the show Neil deGrasse Tyson made a surprise visit to disprove O’Reilly’s theory.

During a debate with the president of The American Atheist Association David Silverman, O’Reilly said the proof that God is real lies in the tides, and assured Silverman that “you can’t explain that.”

Colbert, happy that O’Reilly had finally done what philosophers have been trying to do for years, knew this wasn’t the first time he had proved the existence of God. He showed a slew of clips where O’Reilly offers several versions the same argument: “The sun comes up, the sun goes down. The tide comes in, the tide goes out. There’s never a miscommunication.”

Naturally, Colbert completely understood O’Reilly’s theory:

“Like all great theologies, Bill’s can be boiled down to one sentence: There must be a god, because I don’t know how things work.”

At this point, Colbert was interrupted by deGrasse Tyson walking onto the set. The astrophysicist assured Colbert that it is the moon that controls the tides, but that just ended up convincing Colbert that the moon is God.

Flap Your Lips Friday

Good morning!

Well….somebody just got famous for flapping theirs. Have you heard of Ted Williams? I didn’t and I’m sure many of you hadn’t either until a day or so ago. Now his “golden”voice is all over the media. How I love an interesting story that not only has a good ending, but an amazing beginning, and one that gives me, and so many others, HOPE.

Williams was a 2-year clean and sober, homeless man on the streets with a very special voice talent. And because somebody took the time and gave him the time to voice his talent,  his talent has just landed him a few new job offers, a promising career, and a chance at a wonderful new life. Watch him in action. You just can’t help wanting the very best for him. I certainly am routing for his success, and a lifetime of sobriety.

I heard the original video of Williams got over 3 million hits in 48 hours! It is now removed from Youtube (I think. I couldn’t find it), but here’s a little snippet from MSNBC, along with an article from the Huff Po.

MSNBC Hires Ted Williams, ‘Golden-Voiced’ Homeless Man, For Voiceovers

MSNBC announced Thursday that Ted Williams, the homeless man whose golden pipes have made him a national sensation, is recording voiceovers for the network’s “Lean Forward” campaign. The spots will begin airing on Thursday night.

In addition, Williams will appear on “The Last Word” at 10 on Thursday night to discuss the campaign. In a statement, MSNBC said that Williams’ story “embodies the very same American ideals that the Lean Forward campaign seeks to highlight.”

Williams showed off his voiceover chops when he introduced Thursday morning’s “Today” show.

The MSNBC job is just one of the many offers that has flooded in since a video of Williams went viral in the past week. Among others, ESPN, MTV and the Cleveland Cavaliers have all reached out to Williams with offers.

Readers: Did you hear Williams last night? I did and he was superb. Doesn’t this just make you feel awesome? I have a feeling we are going to be hearing the “golden-voiced” Williams for along time. This guy deserves to be heard.

Want to hear more? Click here. Williams gets personal in an interview with respect to looking forward to seeing his mother after many years of being separate from her.

Before I end, I have to say that I want to give kudos to the man who discovered Williams, Doral Chenoweth. Chenoweth, is a journalist and Web producer for The Columbus Dispatch. If it weren’t for him taking the time to meet Williams, be so taken by his voice to inspire him to come back and video him, we might not have the pleasure of hearing this golden-voiced man.

You know what to do. Blog me and start flapping your lips. Happy Friday!

Recognizing “Elliot”

Good morning!

You all remember my good friend Elliot? You might remember that I blogged about Elliot and the film noir shows that he curated at the Roxie, these past two years. If you got the chance to see any of his shows you know how fabulous they were…If you didn’t…well you definitely  missed out, especially if you are a big film noir fan.

Well…Elliot was just awarded the Marlon Riggs Award from the San Francisco Film Critics Circle for his two decades of film programming! Isn’t that cool? And he didn’t even know that he was nominated – it was a total surprise. How delightful is that?! A big congratulations to Elliot!

Here’s the write:

‘Social Network’ Tops San Francisco Film Critics Circle Awards

The San Francisco Film Critics Circle voted The Social Network as Best Picture last night in its annual members’ meeting, echoing the choices of other critics groups, including those of New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto and Washington, D.C., as well as New York Film Critics Online and the National Board of Review. Its Best Director award went to both ‘Social Network’s’ David Fincher and Black Swan’sDarren Aronofsky.

An award unique to the San Francisco Film Critics Circle, its Marlon Riggs Award, which celebrates an individual or organization offering courage and vision to the Bay Area film community, went to longtime programmer Elliot Lavine, whose work in programming venues, including the oft-embattled and recently renewed Roxie, has entertained and amazed audiences. Wrote the SFFCC, the award honored Lavine’s “two decades of film programming, his revival of rare archival and independent titles and his role in the renewed popularity of film noir and pre-Production Code features.”

Another feature with Bay Area roots, The Tillman Story, from Berkeley-raised Amir Bar-Lev, won Best Documentary. The group described the film as “a Bay Area tragedy thrown onto a national stage as Army Ranger Pat Tillman’s family fought for the truth about his combat death.”

The King’s Speech star, Colin Firth, won for second time from SFFCC in the Best Actor category (last year’s effort was A Single Man). Michelle Williams won Best Actress for her performance in Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine. What SFFCC described as “two noir-ish turns” received supporting awards: John Hawkes as Best Supporting Actor in Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone and Jacki Weaver as Best Supporting Actress in David Michôd Animal Kingdom.

Best Original Screenplay went to David Seidler for The King’s Speech, a British period piece detailing the role of speech therapy in launching King George VI’s reign. Best Cinematography honors went to Matthew Libatique for what was described as “his colorfully dynamic photography of Black Swan.”

More at these awards at SFFCC.
Comprehensive coverage of awards at indieWIRE.

***********

Readers: How about saying hello to Elliot and sending him a big congratulations for bringing a different and unique kind of film entertainment to the big screen. Let’s HOPE his talent in fascinating us with fantastic films continues. Thanks Elliot – you know I love ya! :)

Peace out peeps…

Good morning!

I’m up early and the moon is shining through my kitchen window and it is lovely. Hey, did any of you catch the Lunar eclipse last night? Gazing at a full moon  is one of my favorite things to do on a clear night. I would love to have been able to get up in the early AM and witness this once in a lifetime red gem, but an early morning meeting requires my uninterrupted beauty sleep. I HOPE some of you got to see this celestial eye candy. If not, here it is:

What Love Means…

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 19th December 2010

…to a 4-8 year old

My good friend Tracey sent this to me:

Touching words from the mouth of babes.

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ‘What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

  • ‘When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.’ Rebecca- age 8
  • ‘When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’ Billy – age 4
  • ‘Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.’ Karl – age 5
  • ‘Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.’ Chrissy – age 6
  • ‘Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.’ Terri – age 4
  • ‘Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.’ Danny – age 7
  • ‘Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that.? They look gross when they kiss’ Emily – age 8
  • ‘Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents ?and listen.’ Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)
  • ‘If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,’ Nikka – age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)
  • ‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.’ Noelle – age 7
  • ‘Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.’ Tommy – age 6
  • ‘During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’ Cindy – age 8
  • ‘My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’ Clare – age 6
  • ‘Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.’ Elaine-age 5
  • ‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.’ Chris – age 7
  • ‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’ Mary Ann – age 4
  • ‘I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.’ Lauren – age 4
  • ‘When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.’ (what an image) Karen – age 7
  • ‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross.’ Mark – age 6
  • ‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’ Jessica – age 8
  • And the final one…The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. ??When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry’

Readers: Tell me you loved this as much as I did. I don’t even have children so I can imagine the reactions from those that do. :)

Debbie: It sure is time isn’t it?

Sharon: Good for you. Let the training begin. And I love that…yes! Let’s wake up the sleeping sisters!

Elle: Yes, get off that wagon. I appreciate the beauty that I have. Beauty can take you far but it only goes so far, and then there better be something else. I won’t deny that I work on trying to stay young looking and in shape, (what woman who cares about herself doesn’t?) but I work on the something else much more. Appreciating your true beauty, and not trying to be someone else, is where it’s at. :)

Ursla: Your needs are just as important.  Next time your man needs something cleaned asap, show him how to use the washing machine, and take that time you’re saving and do something for yourself.

Margarieta: Wonderful – Love it. Be an example for your girlfriends, and your daughters – Break the pattern.

Maria: Your advice to Latina women is really advice for all women. No woman should have to put up with the Bull shit men try to feed them. Happy to see that you aren’t.

Imo: I HOPE the comments from the other girls here will inspire you to not be that way anymore.

Claire: I can’t imagine what you and other models must go through emotionally over your looks. I know that it is a secret dream of many young girls – fame and fortune…the fast exciting life. I admit, when I was young I wanted it. Thankfully I didn’t fit the ticket. I wasn’t a strong enough girl to handle the constant rejection or feedback on my looks.

I’m not against finding a rich husband. Rich men look for pretty models for wives, such as yourself all of the time. And as Ruth said, “You can love a rich man as well a poor man” or something like that. Anyway…I am not a financial advisor, But in the mean time, if I were you, I would be socking away and investing as much money as I could to build your own little next egg just for you. Do so even when you get married, because you never know if something younger and prettier will catch his wandering eye.  Men do it all the time so, as I say, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander”. Oh…and congratulations on your new job! I HOPE to see that cover shot.

Hera: I had to laugh about your husband. :)

Zen Lill: I think I remember that comment with Kate Winslet. It is raining here too and I kinda like to also. I am off to lunch at NM with a group of girls that I haven’t seen in ages. Should be fun – I HOPE your holiday parties have been fun too.

Everyone have a wonderful Sunday! Peace out.
