Tony: I believe this is what you asked for…

…Without further ado…here’s number 2!:

Readers: So… are you liking this one better than the last? Hard decision huh?  The voting is now open. Get yours in.  It is Friday…Start flapping your lips!

Zen Lill: I did kind of feel that you wanted to say more than you did, so I am sorry that our conversation felt rushed the other day – we went through quite a few of subjects in record time. It seems a lot is going on in both of our lives and we just didn’t have enough time to chat about it all. Perhaps another phone call is due. I am here if you need a sounding board….or another good sweet swift ass kicking. I can do that too :)

Larken: I haven’t seen it but I am intrigued. And now with your added comments Finley, I definitely want to see it.

Health Info: Love the article. I love all the ingredients too and I think I’ll give it a try – thanks. :)

Andrea: Thanks for your addition too, in regards to the movie. I wrote about this over two years ago….the ‘doomsday seed vault’, and briefly touched on ‘Eugenics’. I firmly believe that the whites are out to wipe out otws, and this action backed by Planned Parenthood does not surprise me at all. You seem to be in the know. Anything else you can tell us? Thanks.

Renee: It’s Hard to not agree with your statement when you see the state of our country. That video is…well I can’t even comment, because there are no words left for me to say how upset I am about this oil spill.

Perry. Interesting article. I’m waiting to collect too. But I play, everyday…do you?

xoxo peeps….enjoy the start of the weekend!

Which Is Your Favorite? (Part 1)

Good Morning!

I know many of you are expecting to see a photo of Zen Lill today, and you will.  She sent me 6 lovely photos to choose from, all pretty…ahem…focused, if I do say so myself, :) and honestly, I just couldn’t decide which one I liked the most to post. So I thought that I would have a little fun, and encourage you to join in.

I decided that I would post all 6 photos and you be the judge of which one you like the best. I will post them in the order that I received them so that you know that I am not choosing to post them in any particular order myself.

I will post the first one today and post the remaining 5 at various times throughout my daily blogging. You, my loyal readers, can vote on your fave! Sound like fun?

So without keeping you waiting, here’s ‘Number One’:

Readers: The voting is now open. The lines will only be open for the next 2 hours so get your votes in – the polls will close in 2 hours. Just kidding. At least I think I am, but who knows with this blog. :)

So…Blog this BABE. Let me know your thoughts…well at least let Zen Lill know. :)

**********

B: Thank you for your open and honest comments about you and your family. I know that not all Islamic men feel that the women should be treated as second class citizens, and obviously you are one of them. Sending your girls away to France is good for them, but what about other women who can not find safety outside of their own country?

I realize your feelings also puts you in a tough position because you want to do what you can for the women in your life, and yet doing more threatens your life.

I know it is easy for me to say; I do not live in fear, but at some point, the men who feel as you do, need to stand up for and with the women, and fight for women’s rights along side of the women, even if it means possible death.  And encourage other like-minded men to do the same. It is one way that your country will move in the direction of change for women.

Women have to face this challenge everyday. They fear their lives everyday. Men who may feel as you do, in my opinion, should risk losing their lives too, for their wives, daughters, granddaughters, and the lives of women still yet to be born.

I say the above statement lightly and with hesitation. As I said, you are in a tough position, because you have choice. The women have no choice. They do nothing or they do something, and the result is the same – they are abused, enslaved and fear death.  But you and other men like you, can choose to do something or nothing, and the results are very different. I can understand why you have feelings that disturb your breast.

My heart goes out to you and your family. And yes, you can count on me to continue to support women.

Athena: Well said girl. I wish I had as much wisdom when I was your age. However, my worldly wisdom, told me that there was something more than just friendship between you and Homer, er…Philippe, and I guess I was right.  I love a girl who uses all of her assets…her brains and beauty. Don’t ever stop. :)

Hamilton: My pleasure. Thanks for taking a peek these past few months, and for commenting. Good question asked, and as a matter of fact I do. I was shopping the other day at Target looking for a few T-shirts that I wanted to creatively manipulate, and all I found were tees made in China. I didn’t buy them. I said to Doug when I got home that if I am going to be such a supporter of women, I have to be consistent and practice what I preach in all areas of my life

And the same goes for my Mac computer which I have had for over 5 years, and I got it from my old business partner. I don’t own an iphone, nor will I ever. I have had the same phone for almost as long. I am not saying that we need to stop buying products whose parts are made in China, but it would be good if we laid down some rules in regards to human rights, or we’ll take our business elsewhere. And we definitely need to have a consciousness about it, to make conscious decisions, and sadly many people don’t.

I was at the Apple store the other night having my computer fixed, and the store, as always was packed with people. Are they aware that every electronic device they support leads to the plight of the Congo women? All because of the precious minerals that are used in computers and mined in the Congo. Unfortunately not.

But the manufacturers aren’t innocent either. Do we really need a newly designed iphone or new mac computer every 6 months? No, but manufacturers, like yourself, are in the business  they are in to make money, and the more money the better. I am well aware that all it takes is a very small part in a computer to upgrade the computer, but that this specific part is not made to be replaceable. Therefore one needs to purchase an entire new computer. More minerals, more women dying.

We are a consumeristic society that feeds off of having the latest and greatest new electronic toys….all at the expense of women. And most of us aren’t even aware of it. While at the Apple store, I looked around at all the people excited about their new purchases. And all I thought about was that these people don’t even know what their new purchases are contributing to.

And my next thought was, ‘If they did would they care enough to make a difference?’ Would they stop buying or at least curb their desires? Or would they just stop for a moment, say, ‘How sad’, and then continue to consume at the insatiable rates that we do? It is the younger generation that is the biggest consumer and we need to enlighten them.

So Hamilton, you are preaching to the choir. But I am so glad that  you asked. My question is: When will people’s lives be more important than the bottom line…more important than money? I hope that you will be inspired to move your business out of the Middle East.  I look forward to hearing from you again.

Glen: Now you bring tears to my eyes. Thank you.

Qin: You’re very welcome.

Igor: LOL – you and me both.

Peace out beautiful people….

The Power To Save A Life Is At Your Fingertips!

Hey Zen Lill: Thanks for informing us of your charity event today. I perused the website that you linked, and realized that this isn’t the first time that I have heard about Pepsi’s program to fund great ideas. I love the concept and I wish the event much success. Since you are helping with the event, I thought maybe I could help generate some votes by blogging about it.

Readers: In case you aren’t familiar with what Zen Lill and I are talking about. It’s called the Pepsi Refresh Project. Pepsi gives away $1,300,000 each month to fund great ideas. I am encouraging you to read the blurb below, and check out DKMS. This is a campaign whose goal is to save the lives of Leukemia patients by registering new bone marrow donors. However it takes money to register new donors.

DKMS is asking for the $250K grant which will pay for 4,000 new donor registrations. And basically to get the grant they need people to vote for their cause. The top two campaigns, the ones with the most votes, will get the grants. Simple, but they need votes. Right now the campaign is ranked #130. Not bad, but they need a lot more votes to slide into the #1 or even the #2 spot.

How about a little help?

Do you think saving lives is a good reason to vote for DKMS? Who wouldn’t? I certainly do. If you do too,  then go to the website and vote.  And like ZL said, “…if you’re near Hollywood and Franklin stop in for some fun…if you’re so inclined, save a life, might be the best thing you ever do with yours.” So go and vote and perhaps even become a bone marrow donor. You just might be the one they call when a life needs to be saved. How cool would that be?

And maybe check out the event, just in case you feel like stopping by to personally support this cause…and who knows…you just might meet ZL personally. :) How cool would that be?

New Sally Hansen campaign to benefit DKMS

THE POWER TO SAVE A LIFE IS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
WITH THE SALLY HANSEN “COLOR THAT CARES” CAMPAIGN BENEFITING DKMS

Color for a cause. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to help save a life when you get a manicure. But with Sally Hansen and DKMS lifesaving is at your fingertips. To help draw attention to the DKMS mission to save lives by recruiting donors, the world’s largest bone marrow center is partnering with Sally Hansen to kick off a mulit-city “Color That Cares” campaign.

For the culmination of the campaign, DKMS and Sally Hansen are hosting an event in Los Angeles at Hollywood and Highland on June 10th, where the nail authority will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most manicures done in a day and Actress TK will be on hand to help launch the initiative. The Color that Cares program will be offering complimentary manicures featuring the new Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure and encouraging visitors to register as donors for DKMS. Fans unable to make it to Los Angeles can get involved online by uploading digital photos of their own Sally Hansen manicures to the Sally Hansen Facebook page to benefit DKMS.

To raise awareness about the Color That Cares program, Sally Hansen and DKMS are debuting a print advertising campaign this April, highlighting the crucial cause that the program benefits. Proceeds from the sales of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure will support DKMS as well, raising further awareness—and funds—for the cause.

Help Now by Donating $

My disclaimer: No, I am not getting free manicures for a year. (Darn)

Thank you. :)

The Big Day: Your Wedding

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 23rd May 2010

Bookmark and Share

Good morning! How is everyone? I can tell you I am beat, and in need of drink and food….specifically a cup of coffee, and honestly pancakes are ringing my bell this morning.

Doug and I went to the San Francisco Symphony Black and White Ball last night with friends and it was a blast. Probably the most fun that I’ve had at this ball in years, if not the most.

We started off meeting our friends at RN74, one of Michael Mina’s restaurants, for drinks and apps beforehand, and then headed to the ball.

If any of my local readers went, I hope that you got to experience Kool and The Gang, because they rocked with the best dance music all night – Okay, the band playing earlier in the evening covering Michael Jackson was awesome to dance to too, but I have to say Kool was just the best to boogie, and a fantastic was to end the evening. I was totally in my element and loving it.

Readers: If you had the pleasure of attending this party of the year, did you have fun? Blog me. I’d love to hear how your evening went.

So onto today’s write….

It is that time of year when couples plan their big day. Planning weddings can be a stressful time even if one hires a Wedding Planner. The scammers know how important all of the little details, making up the perfect wedding day, can be.

And the last thing you want to happen with your hard earned money is to be conned. But the scammers are out there and they don’t care that it is your wedding, your special day that you’ve been planning for months.

They prey on the ‘in love and happy’ hoping to make a killing. Even if you’re not the bride or groom to be, the scammers target people who are involved in weddings such as photographers and wedding planners too. So be on the look out. Here’s an article from scambusters warning you of their tricks:

WEDDING SCAMS

Make Sure A Wedding Scam Doesn’t Ruin The Big Day
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>

Spring is the most popular time for weddings — so it’s also the peak period for wedding scams.

You might have read recently of a wedding scam in Boston, when thousands of brides-to-be and bridal service exhibitors were conned into paying for tickets and booths at a non-existent Home and Bride Show.

And, as the Boston non-event demonstrated, they’re targeted not just at the bride and groom but also at photographers, wedding planners and others involved in what is supposed to be a wonderful day.

So this week we highlight four key areas where everyone involved in weddings needs to be on the alert.

1. Phony Events

We’re thinking of two wedding scams here:

* Exhibitions and shows like the one in Boston, which were promoted through a website and probably cost victims in excess of $100,000.

Action: Always check the credentials/references of anyone who claims to be organizing an event. If they don’t have a track record, be wary — at the very least avoid paying in advance.

* Bogus weddings — a Nigerian advance payment trick, in which a photographer or wedding planner is “booked,” receives a check that turns out to be worthless, and is asked to wire cash payments to another “service provider,” who is actually the scammer.

Action: Just don’t ever agree to do this, however plausible it sounds. Tell whoever contacts you that it’s simply not your policy. Anyway, never wire cash to someone you don’t know or
are not 110% sure of.

Check out our earlier issue on Nigerian advance fee scams.

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=8JUKO&m=1b73Y9toi0tWfo&b=qz3ap6jkZLJ2W1b1.t4rJQ

2. Service Providers Who Let You Down

Yes, they do that — bridal gown makers and suppliers, bakers, caterers, entertainers, wedding planners and even venues can let you down, either by unintentionally failing to deliver or through an out-and-out wedding scam in which they never intended to play their part.

In particular, the recession has driven many of these types out of business — and the less reputable ones head for the hills with their customers’ cash.

Action: A reputable wedding planner (get references) can take a lot of the risk out of organizing the big day, including conducting all the necessary checks, though they probably won’t be involved in buying the wedding dress (see also below).

Also consider taking out insurance for things that might go wrong.

If you’re doing it yourself, try to spread the hard work of checking everything out, including eyeballing venues and going to see entertainers in action.

3. The Dress Label Wedding Scam

You wouldn’t credit it but a number of wedding gown suppliers have been in hot water with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for mislabeling dresses or even switching labels.

They might do this to disguise the origin of the dress, the fabric content or the cleaning instructions. You could pay a fortune for a “silk” dress that’s actually cheap fabric worth only a fraction of the cost.

It’s not illegal for a bridal salon to insert its own label in a gown but the FTC does have stringent rules about what retailers and manufacturers can and can’t do.

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/ l=8JUKO&m=1b73Y9toi0tWfo&b=mOiQuaLdG9Pudnm0Ph9zOA

Action: It’s mainly down to reputation here. You’re unlikely to have the time to check out the accuracy of the label, but you can perhaps ask the vendor if the labeling complies with
FTC regulations, to let them know you know.

If you’re having the dress altered, again check out the reputation of the service. If you’re in any doubt, get a written contract from them stating what will be done, how much it is expected to cost and when it will be completed.

4. The Overseas Wedding Scam

Happily, getting married abroad does not generally lead to a scam but it sometimes still can be a fraught and troublesome business.

The main risks to watch out for:

* Weddings not officially recorded. There was a widely-reported incident in the Dominican Republic in which hundreds of couples paid for weddings that were never recorded.

* Weddings conducted by people not qualified to officiate.

* Extra charges and overpricing for services.

* A marriage license that is not recognized in your home country.

Action: Again, a qualified, reputable wedding planner in your chosen venue will help. Otherwise, consider a pre-visit to the location.

In your home country check with the embassy, consulate or tourist information bureau of the country in which you’re planning to wed, about who can perform weddings and what the licensing system is.

Then check with the authorities in the community where you’re marrying, that the individual is registered and qualified. Also check with them afterwards that the marriage has been recorded.

For US citizens, the Department of State has a useful guide on marrying abroad. Check with them, or the equivalent in your home country, about recognition of marriage abroad.

Some general information on marriage in a limited number of countries can also be obtained from Overseas Citizens Services, Room 4811, Department of State, Washington, DC 20520.

American embassies and consulates abroad frequently have information too about marriage in the country in which they are located.

In addition, even if you’re getting married in your home country but perhaps plan on a non-religious or non-traditional marriage, it’s as well to check with your state Attorney General’s office on who is permitted to officiate.

For many people, getting married is one of the most memorable days of their lives. Just make sure it’s memorable for the right reason and not for a wedding scam.

Now the question is, “Are we talking upper or lower?” :) I mean c’mon it is the weekend. Time for a little fun. What do you think these women are doing?

Hint: This is the most important part of the respected Mayo Clinic psychometric test. In the following pictures you see women with a  range of facial expressions. Study the expressions, and try to imagine what is going on. Then scroll down to see the answer…

They’re all about to sneeze.

Readers: Don’t you just love it? Unless you’ve seen this before, I think it’s pretty obvious what we all thought. I know I’m not the only one. So…whether you’re flapping your upper, lower, or both, it’s a great way to start the weekend! :) Do it. Start flappin’ – blog me.

Hi Doug: Nicely stated and nice addition to my write.
