Good morning. I’m going to be brief this morning. ‘Just noticing’ that our refrigerator is empty and I need to go shopping. First stop is the Farmer’s Market, and then off to Walgreens for some daily necessities. Just in case anyone’s interested, here’s my shopping list. Am I missing anything?

Not to take away from the seriousness of your article, but I can’t help think that maybe a little less testosterone in this world could be a good thing especially in countries where women are raped and abused daily. Some men could use a dose of statins, and some debilitating muscle pain. The pain would be nothing compared to the suffering and abuse some men inflict daily on women.

I was sent this video this morning. This is the second time that it was sent to me. I just had to blog it. If you haven’t seen this, I think you’ll be surprised, if not a bit shocked. I was.
Obviously these young girls are talented, no doubt. But…
…being the question girl that I am, so many questions went through my head:
“Whose idea was this and why wasn’t this person, along with the choreographer and costume designer fired for promoting child porn?” (Am I being too dramatic here? Have I lost my sense of fun?)
“What were the parents thinking when they approved of their child’s participation in this sexual routine, not to mention the totally inappropriate outfits?” I heard these girls are only seven years old.
Secondly, “Why were they even allowed to listen to this kind of music at such an early age to begin with?”
Not to mention, “What is going on through these young girls minds, dancing in these very risque outfits, in very suggestive ways to words that are very sexual. Do they have any idea, and if so, aren’t they just a bit too young to know?”
And…“Do they, the parents, really realize the ramifications that might occur from what their children are portraying?” Helloo pedophiles, this is my daughter – come and get her!
I don’t know. I don’t have kids. You tell me. I am not a prude, we all know that, but I just think this is totally wrong. I just think young girls have it tough enough when they reach their teens, comparing themselves to models and movie stars and wanting to look like them, dress like them…be just like them. All the while insecurities arise when they can’t reach that status. Hell, nobody looks as good as an airbrushed photo, even the models/stars in real life. We as adults know this but young girls don’t necessarily.
I know I’m a bit off topic, but my point is, exposure to sex and trying to fit in and emulate, enters the lives and minds of girls earlier and earlier these days. And it isn’t just the teens…it’s moving down to the tweens. Then we see a video such as this one with pre-tweens.
Yeah we could look at it and get a kick out of it, and say, “How cute!” Obviously the audience loved it. (Am I the only one feeling this way?) I don’t know. Maybe if it was a different song and not those outfits, I would feel differently about the dance moves and the routine.
But will that really be the end of it? Or will it now be the norm seeing 7-year olds acting like adults? And then what’s next? 3-year olds boogying in diapers with the words ‘WET’ on the crotch and DIRTY’ on the butt? Do 3-year olds still wear diapers? See?…I’m not a parent.
But Readers, many of you are. Perhaps you have a different viewpoint. Blog me.

Good morning. No topic to speak of today. This morning I had issues getting into my blog, so I will be posting late. I was logged out for some reason and my password would not work. I was not receiving the e-mails to allow me to reset my password so that I could login. It is finally resolved.
So I am just going to respond and let you all do the chatting. Although before I do, since it is Wednesday, hump day…how about having some fun and challenging yourself to a walk on water? Impossible? These guys don’t seem to think so. As in the words of ‘Alice’: “Sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
Doug: From what I posted the other day and have read, I agree with Trish too: Good argument – I’m with you too. I too would prefer Wood over Kagan, but Kagan is who Obama nominated. Kagan may not be the best choice, considering the conservativeness of some of those serving the court, but she could quite possibly be the right choice.
Not my first choice, but certainly my second. But as we know, the Republicans would never go for Wood, so I think Obama made a good choice, and I support him. But more than anything, I am just delighted that we’re going to have another woman on the high court. So like Caroline and Ruth, I’ll run with Kagan; at least he listened to his right hand lady and picked a woman. I’m excited for Kagan and I look forward to her taking her place for a long time.
Peter: Interesting. Please keep us posted of your findings.
Mike: Obama and his campaign team knew how to get it done via the net. The Republicans are now hip to the power. It is going to be one crazy helluvan election. Oh…and it seems Ann Coulter is getting a little competition from Michelle Malkin. Conservative cat fight, or will they be the Townhall team?

First, before you watch this short but remarkable video, a little background on Democratic Rep. Hank Johnson.
He’s from Georgia’s Fourth District. A Washington, D.C. native, he’s the fellow who took office in 2007 after knocking off former five-term Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney.
A former county judge, the 55-year-old is an attorney, a standard liberal Democrat, receiving 100 ratings from the ADA and ACLU.
In this House Armed Services Committee hearing last Friday (no, it wasn’t April Fool’s Day), Johnson was questioning Admiral Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet, about the stationing of 5,000 additional U.S. Marines and their families on the western Pacific island of Guam, a 212-square-mile American territory that is 30 miles long and from four to 12 miles wide.
President Obama will visit there this summer.
Of course, since Johnson is one of 535 members of the United States Congress, everything he says is important. But pay particular attention to the congressman’s comments starting at the 1:16 mark and the pregnant pause after his stated concern and hand gestures.
Followed by the admiral’s admirably measured military response.
Also, remember you are paying Congressman Johnson’s salary this year — $174,000.

This article and video was brought to my attention. Johnny Weir, a men’s figure skater in the Winter Olympics this year, who is openly gay and proud of it, has fans from around the world that admire and adore him for his flair and flamboyance.
However, his fabulousness…love that word used to describe him, also makes him a target for homophobic remarks. It’s bad enough that homophobes joke and put down gay people making ignorant comments under their breath, but when it’s done live, there’s no backing out of it: Your true feelings are now public. Busted.
Two sports commentators, Claude Mailhot and Alain Goldberg of the RDS network, had the gaul to go after Weir on the air saying that they think, “All the boys that skate will end up like him,” and “We should make him pass a gender test at this point.” Of course and no surprise, they later apologized.
And once again….same old song and dance. I am so sick of people saying or doing something, getting busted for it, and then false apologizing for their actions, when if they hadn’t gotten called out, there would be no apology whatsoever and their rude, homophobic, racist, you fill-in-the- blank actions would continue. Tiger Woods and a few politicians seems to come to mind but that is a whole other topic.
Johnny Weir held a press conference Wednesday in Vancouver to address remarks made by two veteran sports commentators during the Olympics who suggested that his fabulousness (our word) is a bad example of, and for, male figure skaters and joked that he should undergo a gender test. [The comments] have a Quebec gay rights group contemplating filing a complaint with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.
Weir began by joking that he grew stubble for the press conference to show that he’s a man, but his tone quickly got serious. He’s not asking for an apology. He says he believes in free speech and wouldn’t want these men fired for expressing their opinion. (“I’ve heard worse in bathrooms and whatnot about me,” he quipped.) He just wants them to think before they speak — and to imagine the damage they could do to people like him and to generations of children whose parents may not give them the same freedom and support his did if they think their child will only be ridiculed for being who he or she is.
“I would challenge anyone to question my upbringing and question my parents’ ideals and feelings about bringing up me and my brother, who’s completely different from me but taught very much the same way that I was,” Weir said. (The conviction in his voice during that statement had to have made his parents as proud as any medal he could’ve won.)
There’s a reason he’s calling attention to the situation: “Even my gender has been questioned. I want that to be public because I don’t want 50 years from now more young boys and girls to have to go through this sort of thing and to have their whole life basically questioned for no reason other than to make a joke and to make people watch their television program,” he said.
He summed up his message — ”I hope more kids can grow up the same way that I did and more kids can feel the freedom that I feel to be themselves and to express themselves” — and his belief that the concepts of masculinity and femininity are old-fashioned. “There’s a whole generation of people that aren’t defined by their sex or their race or by who they like to sleep with. I think as a person you know what your values are and what you believe in, and I think that’s the most important thing.”
How do you think Weir handled the controversy? I say beautifully. For once, the focus went beyond the superficial “You can’t say that on TV!” headlines to make the media stop and examine the meaning and effect of what was said. Weir understands it’s not just children who have to have self-confidence, but also their parents. If Weir speaks in high schools after the Olympics — and he should — I hope parents are encouraged to come to the assembly. I think his controlled, articulate passion might actually reach them.

As far as being a proud woman for the first time…continue to be. Women are beautiful and amazing, and so many other things….and sooner than later, the world will realize that, if I and so many others can help it.

Charles: I can feel your rant as I read. And it is justified. I am so tired of people trying to convict OJ over and over again. Let it go. The guy was found NOT guilty. But you’re right; it’s not enough. They want their day to bury him…they want their pound of flesh, as you say.
