Sunday’s A Drag

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 15th December 2008

At Harry Denton’s that is…every Sunday.  ’Drag’ being the ever famous ‘Sunday’s A Drag’ show at Harry Denton’s Starlight Room. Harry invited Doug and I to the show yesterday and we ‘dragged’ my mother along, who was simply delighted to go with us.  If you haven’t seen a ‘drag’ show before this is the one to see.

It is described as a “classic Sunday brunch with attitude.’  And believe me, ‘attitude’ is not just a place on the face but oozing out of their push-up bras and fishnet rear ends. It was a Christmas show complete with snow – And the costumes..well you know me…I am toughy when it comes to fashion but I must say they were outrageously fabulous and so were the uhmmm….’ladies’.

Especially the star of the show ‘Cassandra Cass’.  She has a body and a face that any woman would want and most guys would not deny. ‘She is all woman’…she didn’t use to be, but since her many operations thankfully gifted from a dear friend, now turned ‘lovah’ – this woman right down to her sexy voice and flawless complexion has it all. One would never even know that at one time ‘she’ was a ‘he’.  I got excited just watching her move her body and flirt with the audience.

And speaking of flirting…we three had the perfect little booth open to the audience and available for the girls to ‘take advantage of.’  And did they….Cassandra grabbed Doug and ‘dragged’ him (believe me he wasn’t kicking and screaming) onto the stage and threw him on all fours (You go girl!), jumped on his back and rode him beating him with her feather whip….Ahhh it was hilarious and quite delicious. I was laughing trying to get the camera to work and my mother was screaming in hysterics.  It was a memorable moment and alas…only for those eyes that were there. Oh well…the least I could do is post a photo of the beauty. Feast your eyes…I know I don’t need to tell you which one she is…

So…how was your Sunday?  I hope it wasn’t too much of a drag :)

~~~~~~~~
Readers: It was such a pleasant surprise to see so many comment when I read my blog this morning.
Hi Caroline:  I, not being a mother can not relate at all but I can say, you are right – they would not be here if it were not for you. And that in itself says so much. :)
Serial Sam:  If this is not a joke, I really don’t know what to say. I guess there are going to be all kinds stumbling onto my blog.  Hey how about finding another way to thrill yourself that doesn’t affect someone else? Just a suggestion. Maybe the Girls could use you aboard – would you be willing to try a new ‘thrill’ in your life – blog me. Just ask and I will give the order.
Sandra:  Although I do not wish Anonz dead, I would not wish for someone to have control over my decisions and I certainly know Anonz wouldn’t.  So why would I make a decision in regards to Anonz’s life when he has ‘respectfully asked me to butt out’? I am a person of my word. If Anonz asks for help it will be given from me, but only then.  If ZL wants to debate it with him or make a request to Madaline, that is her choice, and between her and Anonz. I’m out of it.
Hello Mary:  I am sure that you would be missed. There is no way that someone’s life does not matter to someone.
Hi Mary: I am assuming this is a different Mary.  I have no problem with you and your faith as long as it does not affect the livelihood of others. So….you may think that the repeal of gay marriages was a good thing but I have to strongly disagree.  How would you like it if someone prevented you from practicing your faith?
Alpa:  Hello. You are doing a good thing for the women of this world. I am sure their lives are in a better place because of you and the dedicated work that you do. You not being here would be one less woman fighting the cause.
Hi Tiffany: Sounds like you’ve got some family issues going on. And it also sounds like your parents need to speak up if they feel the same way as you do. As far as the ‘fondling’…no harm there…better a picture of me than one of his patients.
Hi Doug:  Yes, you do give me the unconditional freedom and space to shine and grow and that along with your love I am grateful for. One doesn’t quite know the impact that once has in one’s life until one is truly gone.
Got to run…have a beautiful day where ever you are!
What If You Didn’t Live?
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 14th December 2008
Literally. I mean, what if you did not exist? How would the world be different if your life never happened?
One of my favorite movies that Doug and I always watch during the Christmas Holidays, besides our favorite musical ‘White Christmas’, is the very famous movie with the very famous man with the very distinguished voice.  Have you guessed it yet? It’s frank Capra’s, “It’s A Wonderful Life’ (1946 ) with non other than Jimmy Stewart.
I have been watching this movie since I was a young girl. And every year I look forward to it, excited, as if it was a new movie that I had never seen before… but, of course I have seen it a zillion times and I have my favorite parts.
Every year the movie has a slightly different affect on me depending on where I am in my life. This year, especially with…and I know I’ve brought this up so much lately, the effects of our economy and how it has affected the world….well…if you haven’t seen ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’, then you have been missing out. Because I think no matter how financially up or how financially down you are, everyone can relate to it in some way, shape or form. No wonder this wonderful movie is shown every year.
If you haven’t seen it then I will give you a very simple synopsis:
Jimmy Stewart plays  George Bailey, who is a young man anxious to travel and see the world. Only his father passes suddenly and he needs to take over and run the family’s Savings and Loan business. He feels that his dream will never happen and he commits himself to giving up his big dreams for the good of the town, Bedford Falls. Year later he seems to have the picture perfect life running the business, and married to his beloved sweetheart Mary Hatch with whom he had 4 children.  But on Christmas Eve, George’s Uncle Billy loses the cash they owe the bank, which is owned by the Scrooge-esque Mr. Potter. This leads George to a life crisis, and he contemplates suicide. He’s saved at the last moment by the appearance of his guardian angel, Clarence.
There are so many profound aspects of this movie that I wish I could explore with you, but today I am focusing on the point of my article.
What would the world be like without you in it?
That is what the angel Clarence showed George.  He showed George just what his little world would look like if he never existed. And it wasn’t pretty.
Just what part have you played in the play of your life? Have you ever thought about it? I have. And as much as I would hope that my family and friends would still have a ‘wonderful’ life, I know that it would be different than it is now. I don’t know many things but what I do know for sure is that my brother would not have a sister that would encourage him to go for his dreams or show him just how much I respect and love him. I know my mother would not have a daughter that she could pal around with like a sister sometimes, and a confidant that she could open up to. Nor would my father have his alone time where he could connect with his daughter and converse about the highs and lows that creative people have.
And my husband Doug…what would his life be like?  I always joke with him when he says ‘What would I do without you?’ And my answer is always, ‘You would be lost with out me – a loser.’ I know that he would not, but I also know that his life would be so different. I know I am an inspiration to him in many ways, and the yin partner in his life. He would not get to enjoy the way I make him laugh or the sound of my walk.
And the animals that I have given my time and my heart to?  I know that some animal’s lives would not be around this day if it were not for me. Lucy included. There would be one less voice for them in support of their livelihood.
And my friends? Well…I know that they would have one less good friend that they could count on to be there for them; a friend that truly wishes them the best in spite of whatever is going on in her life.
And possibly a few more things :)
What about you?  What would you see if you had your angel run a movie of your life without you?  Blog me.
michelle
Gifts That Will Change Your Life
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 6th December 2008
Good morning!
I am so excited this morning to be able to share with you some of my favorite books that I feel would be great to give as gifts to your friends and family. I know that most of you are probably on a budget these days so a book is always a nice little gesture without having to break the bank. I have read most of these, and the ones that I haven’t are on my list.
The Power of Now – By Eckhart Tolle: I read this book so many years ago, and then it had a profound affect on me. For those of you having a hard time just ‘being in the moment’ because you are living ‘in the past’ or the ‘future’, this might be a little gem in helping you ‘keep present’ and ‘live in the now’.  It worked for me – well…at least most of the time :) And if this book doesn’t take you there I recommend Eckkhart’s CD: Realizing The Power Of Now. If the power of his voice doesn’t get you present then nothing will!
A New Earth – By Eckhart Tolle:  After mastering ‘living in the now’ (Yeah right! :), now it’s time to ‘awaken to your life’s purpose’ by putting the ego aside – I know….easier said than done. You have heard me rant and rave about this book for months and I still cannot say enough about it. It is my bible and my traveling companion.  My final words: JUST GET THIS BOOK.  :) Oh…and if you want daily inspirations to give you that extra boost in the morning or any time of day, I recommend A New Earth Inspiration Deck: ‘These powerful quotations will free you from the confines of the ego and help you experience your true essence as well as the true essence of the world.
The Seat Of The Soul – By Gary Zukav:  Again, a book that had a huge impact on me when I read it at least 10 years ago….or at least it feels that long ago.  I have one thing to say about this book from the writer: “If you are not aware of your intentions, the strongest one will live.” Hmm…Makes you want to be aware and present realizing just exactly what your intentions are, doesn’t it? I think I need to read this book again.
The Time Paradox: The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life by Philip Zimbardo:  I heard about this book the other day on NPR and I went straight home to check it out. I took the Zimbardo Time Perspective Survey on his website and I have to say the results were quite enlightening. Are you living in the past?  Concerned about the future? Or living a hedonistic life? See where you are by taking the survey, graft out your results and see how you compare to the norm and the ideal. If you are like me and love taking little quizzes that give you a visual to work from to improve your life, you will enjoy this one. Hint: This is on my little Holiday list. :)
And lastly…
Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude by Sarah Ban Breathnach:  Okay, I thought that I came up with the idea of writing down 5 things that I am grateful for daily in a journal.  I guess Sarah beat me to it. Well, at least I know someone is making some money off of a simple, wonderful idea and most importantly spreading the word about how powerful a ‘gratitude journal’ can be. I have mentioned quite a few times about my own ‘gratitude journal’ and how it has enhanced my life. Sarah’s journal is beautifully decorated and sprinkled with wonderful inspirational quotes. A perfect gift for yourself too – we could all remind ourselves daily just how blessed we truly are. And in the state that our economy is currently, we should all be counting our blessings. Now you have no excuse.
If you would like to buy any of these, click on any book and you will be taken to Amazon.com.
Oh…And if you noticed I did add a little music to the side column. I have just discovered the singer Sheila Chandra, whose voice is soo melodic and hypnotic. I was on the Chiro table Wednesday getting adjusted when her music came on and transported me.  Click to play and experience her sensuous voice that I have come to love.  And if you like it, you can buy a song or two or the entire album. I’ll be adding more of my favorite picks in the next day or so. Enjoy!
So..that’s it. My gift picks for the Holidays.  It won’t break your bank account but I am sure it will have a lasting impression on whomever you gift these to….including yourself.
Enjoy this beautiful Saturday!
Political Dance Off!
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 13th November 2008
Oh…forgive me this morning but I was just too tempted  to have a little fun with our past running mates. I have a big day today so this little video is strictly for your pleasure. Hopefully you’ll get a hoot out of it – I did. Although it is a bit hokey – their mouths are doing some really weird things but overall ya gotta love technology.
And if that isn’t enough to entertain you, you can always see more at the Mini Movie Channel where I’m sure you can be entertained for hours.  My suggestions: ‘Dancing With The Political Stars’ and ‘Hilary’s Humps’.  And then my next suggestion: ‘Get a life because you have way too much time on your hands!’.
Zen Lill: I would adopt ‘Ears’ too! He is too adorable. I was at the gas station the other day and I saw this chinese hairless dog in a car window so of course I went up to the family so that I could say ‘hello’ to the little pupster. He was too cute and and felt so soft. I was informed that you have to apply lotion and sunscreen to protect their skin. But between Lucy and myself, hair is everywhere – this would be the remedy.
And, speaking of time…mine’s run out.
