The NRA says “don’t point the finger at us. It’s the mentally ill who are the problem. Find them and deal with them.” For one, a background check would have helped find them.
But the NRA must think that psychiatrists are just going to open their files and give up the mentally disturbed, It won’t happen that way.

(If they did, the law of averages says they would turn up a number of NRA members) So we’re back to square one, and the mentally ill owes one to the NRA. Be sure to look for them at your next gun show.

See, this is great. We have a patchwork system that means if there are some laws in your area, all you have to do is drive a short distance to a place that has no gun control laws, or just buy them at a gun show or on the internet.

The result is proof that a patchwork system doesn’t work, and also that until we institute universal background checks, any criminal or mentally ill person can get as many guns as they want.

This is not proof that common sense gun control does not work, only that it doesn’t work when applied in a few cities or states.

The constitutional rights of people are there for a reason. The federal gov. will not be able to show the necessary “intent” to qualify Dzhokhar for the death penalty if the courts rule that not giving him his miranda rights eliminates any information he gave them to prove the necessary “intent” to make it a terrorist attack rather than a state crime in MA.

Besides how about the fact that if the government can do this to this person where will it stop. American history has shown what happens when the white boy is allowed to manipulate the laws to their advantage.
