‘Accidental Racist’: Read the Lyrics So You Don’t Have to Hear Them

Here are the transcribed words to Brad Paisley and LL Cool J’s song, if you can’t bring yourself to listen.

If you’re like many music fans, you’re curious about the debate surrounding Brad Paisley and LL Cool J’s “Accidental Racist” — but you don’t want to actually listen to the song, thanks to a perfectly rational fear of country-rap hybrids.

So to help you with your debating points, here are the transcribed lyrics of the song, sans music. You aren’t missing much — the music has a slow, whiny quality you probably wouldn’t enjoy, and a weak drum beat extended to hip-hop fans like a wilted olive branch.

As for the lyrics: Yes, it’s just a song, and it isn’t up to Paisley and a “NCIS: Los Angeles” star to resolve all of our country’s racial issues. But we suspect Dolly Parton and Jay-Z would do a better job than this. There’s a lot to shake your head about in the lyrics to “Accidental Racist,” including:

-The song opening with Paisley being “waited on” by a black Starbuck’s employee who gets offended because the narrator innocently threw on a shirt that morning that just happened to have a Confederate flag on it. We know: There’s a lot to work with in that intro alone.

-How it equates wearing a do-rag (a race-neutral, convenient fashion choice) with wearing a Southern flag (hotly disputed symbol of the Confederacy and, to many, slavery)

-Cool J saying, “If you don’t judge my gold chains, I’ll forget the iron chains.” First, for the obvious reason, but also because Talib Kweli did the chains analogy much better a decade ago.

Interestingly, Cool J is touring this summer with Public Enemy. Wonder what Chuck D thinks of this.

Anyway, here are the lyrics. Have fun debating them with Confederate-flag wearing cowboy- hatted dudes and doo-ragged, gold-chained baristas alike. (Wait — you never come across either of these living cartoons? How interesting.)

International Topless Jihad Day: FEMEN Activists Stage Protests Across Europe

FEMEN strikes again: Topless protesters staged demonstrations near mosques and Tunisian embassies across Europe on Thursday to express support for embattled FEMEN activist Amina Tyler.

“We’re free, we’re naked, it’s our right, it’s our body, it’s our rules, and nobody can use religion, and some other holy things, to abuse women, to oppress them,” FEMEN member Alexandra Shevchenko said in Berlin, according to AFP.

“And we’ll fight against them. And our boobs will be stronger than their stones,” she added.

Tunisian student Amina Tyler sparked a massive controversy in mid-March by posting topless photos of herself on Facebook, with the slogans “Fuck Your Morals” and “My Body Belongs To Me, And Is Not The Source Of Anyone’s Honor,” painted on her body.

Islamist hackers responded with an attack on FEMEN’s Tunisian Facebook Fan Page, replacing topless photos with quotes from the Quran. An Islamic preacher even stated that Tyler could be stoned for her act of defiance.

In support of Tyler’s plight, FEMEN labeled April 4 “International Topless Jihad Day” and organized protests across Europe.

“This day will mark the beginning of a new, genuine Arab Spring, after which true freedom, freedom without mullahs and caliphs, will come to Tunisia! Long live the topless jihad against infidels! Our tits are deadlier than your stones!” the group wrote in a statement on its Facebook page.

AFP reports that about two dozen activists showed up in Paris, where FEMEN has its international headquarters. The women tried to reach the Tunisian embassy but were deterred by police.

Five activists gathered near an Islamic cultural center in Brussels, Belgium, Euronews writes. And according to the Gazetta Del Sud, Italian womenprotested outside the Tunisian consulate in Milan, carrying signs that read “Free Amina” and “Bare Breasts Against Islam.”

The Interfax News agency adds that the protests spread to the Ukraine, with police detaining FEMEN activists in Kiev. “The FEMEN activists drove up to the entrance to the mosque in a car, where they were arrested by the police,” Interfax cites the police reports.

Activists and journalists have expressed concern about Tyler’s well-being in recent days. While her lawyer said the young woman was doing fine, several reports suggest Tyler is being held by her parents in seclusion.

“No, it’s not fine. Amina is with her family but that’s not ‘good news,’ as some newspapers earlier wrote,” journalist Caroline Fourest wrote in a blog for HuffPost France. “No one close to her, none of her friends or people in her support network have seen her or heard that she was free, free to move and speak,” Fourest added.

I HOPE the answer to that question is a loud and proud YES!

Good morning!

And continues to be so for a lifetime. This weekend in celebration of International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on just how much women do and how wonderful we are….and to honor the women in your life and those around you as you go about your day. It is time get present, take notice, and do something more for women. Not just today or this weekend, but every day.

I blog of the atrocities quite frequently here, of women who endure torture and abuse, slavery and murder, here, and all over the world on a daily basis. The UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet stresses that discrimination and violence against women and girls have no place in the 21st century. “Enough is enough,” she says in a message of both outrage and hope that discrimination and violence must end. I echo her words. And I HOPE that the women and especially men on this planet will echo Bachelet’s words as well and do something in support of ending the violence toward women and girls.

On a more personal note, my weekend started off as best as I could imagine. Friday night went into the early hours of the morning and I felt like such a loved woman. It was as if the Gods were looking over me, smiling and making sure that I had a good time and was treated with love and respect. I can only wish just as much for all of my sisters out there today and forever.

That’s it for me today. I am just keeping it short and sweet this Sunday morning. But please, if you want to be long and give loving lip…go for it!

Good morning!

It’s that time of year again, already – the Oscars are on tonight – anybody watching? I can’t say that I have watched many movies this year but I did catch a few; Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty being two that I enjoyed. The Life of Pi, not so much. Although I thought the cinematography was good, the movie in my opinion didn’t leave any lasting impression except I was a little bothered by the ending. I will watch some of it this evening, but it is really the afternoon red carpet that will capture my interest today. I love seeing the gorgeous gals in their gowns.

And since we’re on the topic of fashion, did you hear about the “Intimacy dress?” A futuristic looking little dress that once a girl gets turned on, the dress becomes transparent. The more aroused she gets, the more the revealing the dress. Let me guess – a man designed this dress – right? Is it that obvious? Of course. Who else would design a dress that exposes what a woman is feeling? Who else would design a dress that enables the man to get a free peak to check out the goods?

‘Intimacy 2.0′ Dress Turns Transparent When You Get Sexually Aroused

You don’t get to choose whether this dress is revealing or not — your carnal instincts do.

The ‘Intimacy 2.0′ dress, designed by Daan Roosegaarde, is getting a rise out of the fashion world because its opaque fabric becomes transparent when you get aroused. Finally, all the cards will be on the table. You’ll have your date saying, “Is your dress disappearing, or are you just happy to see me?”

The already barely-there garment features ribbons of leather and opaque “e-foils,” which can detect the model’s heartbeat, the Daily Mail reports.

“Intimacy 2.0 is a fashion project exploring the relation between intimacy and technology,” Roosegaarde said. “Technology is used here not merely functional but also as a tool to create intimacy as well as privacy on a direct, personal level which in our contemporary tech society is becoming increasingly important.”

In other words, you’re going to be showing a lot more than sideboob when you dance, walk briskly, witness a fender-bender, eat a grape, or engage in any other mildly heart-thumping activity.

Another caveat: Though Roosegaarde has said he’s “in talks” to produce a ready-to-wear line of Intimacy clothing, the current dress is only a prototype and a project.

Would you wear this dress? Me? Absolutely not. I prefer to be in control of how much I reveal to my date – that speaks for how much skin I reveal and how much interest I have in him is revealed, and when it is revealed.

I realize we’re having fashion fun here, but can you imagine? Let’s set the scene:

I am out on a date having a good time…the chemistry is there and I am feeling like I really like the man I’m with. The conversation is good, we find we have common interests…perhaps this can go somewhere. The evening is over, you walk me to my car. Perhaps I give you a kiss good night. I feel that wonderful feeling inside – the potential for more but not likely tonight, as I am just getting to know you. However, because I am wearing the “Intimacy Dress”, it starts to become transparent.

Hmm….my date is checking me out (and perhaps everyone else in eye’s view), thinks I want more and starts to move in. I say “No, I’m not ready to do more than this.” He says “c’mon you know you want it.” And next thing you know, he tries to rape me.

Okay, so that is the extreme. But really, women have enough problems with rape and men accusing them of “wanting it”…”asking for it”. Now we have a dress that says we’re definitely interested, and he is going to know it. Does that give him a reason to move in on you and assume that you want it NOW? No, but I can just hear the media saying, “Well…your dress did turn transparent.” “Why did you wear a dress that would become transparent letting the man know you were turned on if you didn’t want to have sex?” “This wasn’t rape, she was clearly (no pun intended) excited.” Oh…the comments could go on and on.

No thank you. Believe me, I don’t need a dress to tell a man I am excited and I want to be with him. He will know when I am excited and when I am ready. I’ll pass on the dress, thank you very much. What woman wouldn’t?

But, hey, I’ve got a better idea. How about a pair of men’s “Intimacy Pants” – pants that becomes transparent when the man gets turned on? Then we could at least see the size of his package before we decide if we’re interested or not. Only a girl would design something like this, right? :) I think that’s fair don’t you? I mean if men can get a peak when we’re turned on, the least they could do is don on a pair of pants that tells us what’s hanging. Hahaha! No surprises – we can learn up front what we’re always wondering. I love that idea.
