What’s On My Mind…

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 3rd April 2009

Good morning!

There are so many things going on in the world today.  Lots on my mind as usual,  and as usual on Fridays, little time this morning. But at least I’ll address a few and give my two.

First, did you not just love that President Obama fired the head of GM?  I bet corporate heads are spinning wondering, ‘who’s next?’ We have been saying that these CEO’s need to be fired. They’re doing a lousy job. Like anyone else who doesn’t do well at their job….like anyone else who doesn’t preform: They get fired. Simple. These heads should be treated no differently. I applaud Obama for once again taking unprecedented action.

And last night the house and senate passed President Obama’s Budget plan  – I am grateful. I like being part of a success. Did any of you write your letters or make a few phone calls? Hmm…and no surprise, the plan passed with zero republican votes. Yep, once again no support from the repugs. No matter, we’ll get this country moving in the right direction whether we have their support or not. Obama has the country’s support.

So now Obama is attending a NATO summit which brings me to another interesting topic.  Obama wants to add more troops in Afghanistan to fight the rising insurgency. And as much as Europeans endorse and support America’s strategy, it is noted that, ‘They are more enthusiastic about increasing humanitarian and development aid than adding soldiers’, and especially in light of the new controversial law that I just read about thanks to Anjali.

Anjali:  You brought this up a few days ago. Your comment disturbed me and I finally did a bit of research.  I could not believe that what you said was actually true. Not that I doubted you for a minute, but I just didn’t want to believe it.

The law has passed. It is now legal in Afghanistan for a man to have sex with his wife who says ‘no’. A man can rape his wife. The law authorizes rape within marriage!

They say it removes the right of women to refuse their husbands sex, unless they are ill.

Women will also need to get permission from their husbands if they want to leave their homes, unless there is an emergency.

The law covers members of Afghanistan’s Shia minority, who make up 10% of the population.

Aides to President Karzai insist the law provides more protection for women.

Uh huh.  Where do they come up with this disgusting BS? Human rights activists say it reverses many of the freedoms won by Afghan women in the seven years since the Taleban were driven from power.

We need to support women more, not take away their human rights. It seems every step forward is two steps back when it comes to these men trying to get over in any way they can. This has got to end. (deep breath)

That is it for me this morning. I am out of here. Please do drop by and leave a comment on this or any other subject that inspires you. I look forward to the reads.

ZL: I’ll check out Jim, and call you this weekend. Good luck with your showing!

Gratefully your blog host,

Right On Einstein

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 30th March 2009

Hey Robert: Funny how your comment yesterday is so apropos.  It reminded me of one of the bumper stickers that I mentioned in yesterday’s post.  I had completely forgotten about it until I read your comment. It was a quote by Einstein and I think we would all agree with what he has to say:

“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

Right on Einstein. I mean how can the people who created these problems, solve them from the same level of consciousness that created it?  They can’t. It takes a different mindset and they don’t have it.

And if you want to take it to the next level and believe the theory that those that created the problems really don’t want to solve the problems…that they really only care for Obama to fail. Because god forbid if a black man is a successful president, the fear is that a white man might never be elected in office again.  So the question lies…”Do they want to uplift our country out of this horrific economy more than they want to see President Obama fail?”

~~~~~~~~
Claire, Pearl: I think I too need to post my article from here or refer back to my blog article on my Facebook page.  I have gotten a few responses from friends when they read that I was facing-off, and I think more of an explanation is needed.
Melanie:  Yes, I think this site had some issues. I could not figure out why everyone was commenting on the day before I posted yesterday. Some kind of glitch. From what I understand from the few emails that I recieved, yesterday’s post was not being seen by some even though I posted it in the early morning.
Earl:  Yeah, so where is the sex? – Get it going and maybe we’ll get some followers.
Zen Lill: Phone time would be great. I’ll try you this week. Happy to see you back here. I hope that you and Lisa had a wonderful time visiting ‘live’ :)
Have a fab day…
Face-off
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 28th March 2009
I know that I raved about Facebook awhile back, but right now all I want to do is face-off.
I have loved connecting with old friends and new, but lately I have discovered that Facebook takes up way too much time and most of the chitchat is superficial. Not that there is anything wrong with superficial as long as it is in spurts. And not that there is anything wrong in letting everyone know that you just ate a bowl of oatmeal or that the colors of the sunset are amazing.
It’s nice to feel that you are privy to the little snippets of friends lives when life is too busy to check in with more than just a one-liner. And yes, I have used Facebook too, to replace much of my emailing and I have had wonderful conversations that are much more than ‘superficial’.
So what’s my problem?  I am a task driven person and a bit anal about details. Love is in the details but yes the devil hides there too. :) And what I mean by that is, it is very difficult for me to not address someone if someone has addressed me.  And the more time that passes knowing that I need to respond, answer, say hello to…etc. etc., the more it weighs on my mind as ‘unfinished business’.
It is just the way that I am.  When something needs to be handled in my life, I usually tackle it the moment it comes in because I don’t want to have it on my mind. If it is something that can not be handled at the moment, it goes on my ‘to-do’ list.  I love making ‘checkmarks’  when something is complete.
However, with Facebook, it is beginning to feel like a never ending project that never gets completed, no matter how many ‘checkmarks’ I make. Now, how fun is that?  Lately: None. And since connecting with friends shouldn’t be like marking off a task, I have decided to not respond at all. Which, let me tell you, is so difficult for me, and so not like me at all.
So to those of you who have been Facebooking me, I am facing-off for a little while. I am not sure how long or when I will be back, but I don’t see myself facing-off forever. Just for now, I want to be a bit old fashioned in these techie modern times.
Just for now I am craving real connections, either in person or on the phone, where I can hear your tone and inflections that give me true meaning to your voices.  Connections where I can hear your excitement, feel your passion and join in on the laughter. (So much more enjoyable than a smiley face :)…Connections where I can have compassion for you in your upset or support and comfort you in your worry with a real hug. For those that want to connect with me this way, and you know who you are, let’s converse live in real time. Call me if you want to connect. I will do the same.
And to my readers who only know me through this blog: If my only way of connecting to you is through this venue, this is where my commitment has been and always will be. This venue has always been way more than a one-liner.  :)
Facing-off from Facebook….but only signing off from here….
This ‘N That Chit-Chat
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 22nd March 2009
So here I sit again, in front of my computer ready to write my write, enjoying my hot cup of cocoa…staving off heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and cancer, while I sit in bed blogging. Ya gotta love it. And I also love the fact that I  need no excuse from now on to indulge in one of my faves: Chocolate.
And it seems we are on the same subject today: Recognizing the humor in life. Sans the sickening article on fraudulent Feldman and his faux liver transplants. He is unforgivable and should have his liver removed for punishment.
But let me back track a bit and respond to some of you first before I carry on with today’s write.
Zen Lill:  Say “Hello!”….and have a great time with Lisa! I can’t wait to hear about the Ellen Show too.
Creg:  So, I am so blown away that you took my advice and called your daughter. I am so happy for the both of you. I hope that you both enjoy your new relationship.  And thanks to Gloria too for recommending my blog.
Tina: Your story had me in stitches!
Anna, Peter, Hafa adai:  Again I know so little about Guam. Thank you for posting a little history for all of us.
Anonymous: I don’t blame you about being upset. Getting into Law school is big. I will congratulate you even if your parents won’t. Congratulations – I hope that you do well and pass the bar on your first try.
Ned: Sorry for laughing but how can you live with someone who doesn’t bathe regularly? She gives a new meaning to the term  ‘dirty sex’. Could this divorce be a blessing in disguise?
Blake:  If she is heartless and cruel to everyone including you, why would you want to marry her? An example: Your mother walks out all dressed up and wearing her best sunday hat. She feels so good when she wears this hat but it really looks ridiculous.  Do you tell her when you know how happy wearing that hat makes her? Hell no.  Yet your girlfriend probably would. That is cruel. It is not always in the best interest of others to be so honest. In this case telling your mother that she looked ridiculous would not serve her at all. Let her walk out happy.  People who see her will probably love the fact that she is just so delighted  with herself. I say,  ‘Get a clue. Find someone new.’
Megan, Belinda, Tina, Jerry, Linda, Shawn and Cathy:  Thanks for your stories too. I am smiling and laughing. I love that all of you are so open and willing to share on my blog.
Phillip: You need to get a clue too. I think your girl is tired of driving and wants to feel like the woman in this relationship. Why not pick her up sometime and take her out. YOU drive and if you’re smart, you’ll start opening the door for her to get in and out of the car too. Start treating her like she’s your girl instead of a buddy. Just my thoughts…
Speaking of getting a clue…Sam: You’re ‘thinking’ of not marrying her?  If her words don’t tell you clear enough to get out, I will. ‘Get out. Find someone you want to be with and who wants to be with you.’
Holly:  Don’t pay attention to your dad. He’s probably envious and living vicariously through your chip bro. Congrats on making the dean’s honor list – keep in goin’!
You know, I think I’m going to end it right here. I wanted to write about something today but I’m going to save it for tomorrow, enjoy the ease of this weekends comments,  and just sign off.  I hope that’s cool with you.
Have a beautiful Sunday.
