What Do Gov. Jan Brewer And Private Prisons Have In Common?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 3rd September 2010

Bookmark and Share

I don’t know about you but I am tired of Gov. Jan Brewer, the hand behind the signing of Arizona’s draconian Immigration Law SB1070. It’s been in the news for the past few months about Brewer and her lobbyist ties to private prisons, one specifically, Corrections Corporation Of America (CCA).

Although crime in Arizona is way down, “terrorist”, “kidnapping”, “beheading”, “murder” “drug cartel” and “extortion” are the words widely used to induce fear in the public. Even illegal border crossing is down 49% since 2004.(!) And according to Rachel Maddow’s findings, it is down 67% since 2000.

Wha’at? Illegal border crossing is down and the Immigration Law was just passed? If that law being passed isn’t blatant racism hiding beneath the coat of fear, I don’t know what is.  If anyone took into consideration the above stats this law would never have even been passed let alone broached. Blatant racism, that’s all it is. People can say they are afraid, but c’mon not many want to admit they are racist.

And you can thank the one pushing this kind of propaganda paranoia to the public: Jan Brewer.

I found a video of KPHO News out of Phoenix, the station who reported these interesting findings about Brewer and her lobbyist ties. And as expected, when they confronted Brewer, she opted for the fifth. No surprise there.

Brewer has an agenda in mind, and she’s not alone. Her rhetoric on border security  may be damaging Arizona’s tourism industry for the benefit of CCA. Why? Well, check this out: Brewer’s top advisors, Paul Senseman and Chuck Coughlin have connections to CCA. CCA holds the federal contract to house detained immigrants…to a tune of 11 million dollars every month and could grow exponentially because of the Immigration Law.

Brewer’s campaign staff and governing staff are overrun with lobbyists, particularly those with direct ties to prison privatization. Brewer’s lobbyists have been leaders in the efforts to privatize Arizona’s prison system at the expense of public safety. Here’s a quick Who’s Who:

Campaign Manager Chuck Coughlin is a registered lobbyist and president of HighGround Public Affairs Consultants, which has represented Corrections Corporation of America.
Campaign Spokesman Doug Cole is a registered lobbyist for HighGround Public Affairs Consultants.
Governor’s Office Chief of Staff Eileen Klein was a registered lobbyist.
Governor’s Office Communications Director Paul Senseman was a registered lobbyist.
Governor’s Office Deputy Communications Director Mark Genrich is a registered lobbyist.
Governor’s Office Deputy Chief of Staff Richard Bark was a registered lobbyist.
Governor’s Office Policy Adviser Kevin Kinsall was a registered lobbyist.

Can you say “Ka- ching”? I’ll leave it at that.  Watch the video and get all the dirt.

Readers: And now the latest thanks to Maddow’s report Wednesday night: The Brewer campaign is trying to punish KPHO TV by withdrawing her campaign ads from the station.

KPHO TV is a CBS affiliate; in the largest city in Arizona: Phoenix. Maddow states: “This is political retaliation against journalism. This is news.” Yep, they’re advertising on the other two networks but decided to stop advertising on KPHO. Gee, do ya think it’s because KPHO has been digging, reporting and raising questions about Brewer’s lobbyist ties to CCA for the past few months?

Hmm…election time is near – Now who’s the one in fear? Fear of exposure, that is. Hint: I mentioned I was tired of her. :)

If you want to hear more of Maddow’s comments in regards to Brewer and KPHO TV click here for Wednesday night’s report. Begin the video at 3:30.

Anna Of Guam: The circumstances are so unfortunate. I understand that the brown tree snake is damaging your ecosystem, but I hate to see an innocent snake being killed, when the species should never have been on the island in the first place, and is just living instinctually. It is also very sad to me that  the snakes have endangered and eliminated most of your indigenous birds. So I understand the need to get it all under control. What else can be done other than baiting the snakes with mice? Hafa Adai.

Craig: Glad you liked it, and I think so too.

Doug: My pleasure baby.

Lea: That is par for the course for the GOP. “Civility” shows up rarely in the GOP and if they aren’t going to be civil with their own kind, don’t count on it when it comes to them facing off with the Dems, or anyone else in the way of their agenda. As always, anyone up against the GOP has their work cut out for them.

Nidal: I am fortunate and so grateful that I am a healthy individual that does not require any medications, but many people do need them, or at least they are told that they do for what ever ails them. I am not against western medicine but it can only do so much and as we have read here, there are so many unknown side effects. Who can we trust? As always, no one else is going to care more about your health than YOU. Be a research bug. That’s my two. I actually have more to say about this but I will reserve it for another day.

Ricki: I am aware of the situation in Mexico. It is dreadful. I will speak to Madaline about it.

Ai-Mu: I am not at all aware of the things you speak of. This is so disturbing. I really don’t know what to say except it is not surprising that it is the western corps behind this sickness. I would revert back to the old practice of medicine too if I were you. It is probably better for you anyway. I don’t have a solution, but I am glad that you brought it up here so that me and my readers are now aware.

Irene, and Mary: I so appreciate when I write about something and I learn even more. Although I wish that eugenics didn’t exist, it does and we need to know as much as we can. Thanks for contributing.

Elenor: You got that right. It is no surprise that the word “Integrity” was in the top 10 of the most looked up words in the dictionary in 2009.

LaDesta: Interesting article. I really bothers me when society, and religion is part of society, puts limits on my beliefs and how I choose to practice what ever beliefs I have. Who says we have to stick with one religion? Can we not see the good in different religions or follow the beliefs as we see fit? Does God, or Buddha or Allah put limits on us or do we?

Can we not create our own religion or spiritual practice to suit our needs? As long as one’s practice and belief doesn’t impose on another’s, can we just let people practice and believe what works for them, just as we expect others to let us? Practice and let practice. Believe and let believe. Live and let live.

All of that BS about Obama and his beliefs, whether they are not “christian enough” or whatever else they are saying, is just bigotry in hiding. You’re right in your assessment.

Peace out…

What Do The Flu Shot, Monsanto, And Eugenics Have In Common?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 2nd September 2010

Bookmark and Share

Well, once again, and like every year, the flu season will soon be upon us, which means we will start to see advertising of the flu shot. It’s already happening. Just the other day, I went to Walgreens and they were displaying a big banner: “Flu Shots Given Here Daily”. And I thought, “After all of the hype, and warnings around flu shots, specifically the H1N1, are people still planning on getting this mercury infused, and who-knows-what-else concoction, injected into themselves this winter?” Crazy.

And then I discovered something even crazier, and worse yet, very distrubing. This video by Alex Jones of infowars.com. So what”, you may ask,  ”who is Alex Jones?” It would be my pleasure to tell you. Here’s a little background:

Internationally recognized veteran broadcaster, documentary filmmaker, and investigative journalist Alex Jones has been featured as a prominent figure of the 9/11 Truth Movement in such publications as The New York Times, Vanity Fair, and Popular Mechanics. He has appeared on Good Morning America, 20/20 Downtown, 60 Minutes, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, Fox News, TalkSport (UK), Russia Today, Channel 4 (UK), A&E, America’s most widely listened to late night radio show, Coast to Coast AM, C-Span, and many other venues. Patrick Beech of the Austin-American Statesman has described Jones as “an absolutely riveting television presence.”

As a dedicated and aggressive Constutionalist, Jones consistently defends the Bill of Rights, property rights, and our nation’s borders. In the spirit of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, Jones passionately argues against foreign entanglements and wars for the sake of corporate and banking interests. Jones avoids the bogus political labels of “left and right” and instead focuses on what really matters – what’s right and wrong. As a tenacious journalist, Jones has broken hundreds of national stories over the span of his career.

Jones began his career in Austin, Texas, with a live, call-in format cable access television program. In 1996, he hosted a show dubbed The Final Edition on KJFK, and the following year he debuted his first documentary, America Destroyed By Design. In 1999, he tied with Shannon Burke of KJFK 98.9FM for that year’s “Best Austin Talk Radio Host” poll as voted by The Austin Chronicle readers.

To read more click here.

So…this brings me back to my question: What do the flu shot, Monsanto, and Eugenics have in common?

My answer: Watch the video.

Readers: What do you think? Still questioning whether you should take the flu shot? Could the flu shot really be another means to push Eugenics? And what about the involvement of Gates and Monsanto? Think Jones is just talking nonsense, and he’s really a paranoid conspiracy theorist?

In my opinion, Jones pretty much ties it all together, and he’s got evidence backing it to boot. His reporting sounds more like a novel or an upcoming movie, than real life. But unfortunately it’s not. It’s scary and it’s sickening.

From all we have learned here…from all we have talked, vented, and ranted about, I can seriously say with conviction, “I think not”. But if you do, fine. – Go do your own research.  I’m listing a few places you can visit on-line to start:

Peter, and Anna: I remember when this subject came up a long time ago on my blog.  Guamanians are still waiting for war reparations? You’re correct in your thinking. The double standard has got to stop. Hafa Adai.

Zen Lill: Yes, I am saving the butt shot for another day. Can’t give up all the goodies at once now can we? :)

Bob: This one made me chuckle.

Gil: Oh, here let me bend over and please spank me good “for standing in the way of guy fulfillment”…I guess this day is just as good an any other. :) Ooh ooh ogle on…

Pinkin’ out….

15 Steps You Can Take To Prevent Home Burglary
<>~<>~<><>~<>~<><>~<>~<><>~<>~<><>~<>~<><>~<>~<><>~<>

It’s a sobering and frightening thought that in the time it takes you to read this issue — say 10 minutes — 40 home burglary crimes will be committed in the US.

That’s one home burglary every 15 seconds.

Some of those home burglaries, as we have previously reported, will be by scam artists who previously checked the homes out by posing as legitimate visitors, talking their way in and maybe even opening a window in a bathroom for easy access when they return.

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=8JUKO&m=1cZe7RT3dmtWfo&b=H_SEdrNN9bTXy_AyITTsOA

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=8JUKO&m=1cZe7RT3dmtWfo&b=omhBDXRzadC_QHTHBm72ww

Some will be opportunists, who just happen to spot an easy target in a neighborhood — like an open door or window.

And yet others will be experienced crooks (we won’t use the word “professionals” — it’s too good for them) who know how to “case a joint” without being noticed, and know all the tricks of the trade for breaking and entering.

Whichever category they fit, we know that the average time it takes for a burglar to break into a home is less than a minute, and the amount of time they spend inside is little more than 10 minutes — though, posing as contractors or furniture removers, they’ve been known to take much longer and completely empty a home.

The reality of home burglaries hit home recently for the friend of a couple of Scambusters team members and prompted us to focus this issue on what you can do to prevent home burglary.

In this recent case, the friend — as it happens, a criminologist, Elicka S.L. Peterson-Sparks, Associate
Professor of Justice Studies at Appalachian State University – was keeping an eye on a neighbor’s condo while the owner was away.

What to Do When Your Disturb a Home Burglar

Elicka was making her rounds to check the place and apparently surprised a burglar who escaped out the back.

Elicka had gone into the home, noticed a light on, and made a hasty retreat to her car, where she phoned the sheriff.

She naturally did the right thing. As Elicka explained later: ”Burglaries rarely involve assault of any kind, but, when they do, it is almost always because the thief is cornered.

“If I’d have noticed anything from outside, I would never have gone in. It’s also quite common for injuries to occur because homeowners assume the burglary is over, and walk in to assess the situation, unwittingly trapping the thief.

“The moment you figure out something is amiss, leave. Get to a safe place and call the cops. It’s not worth getting hurt.”

Sound advice. And seeing as Elicka is an expert on the criminal mind, she took the opportunity to pass on to other neighbors her own thoughts on the key things we can all do to discourage home burglary.

15 Home Burglary Tips

Elicka graciously agreed to let us publish her home burglary protection tips to her neighbors, to which we’ve also added a few thoughts of our own. Here they are.

1. People are your best defense — be a visibly nosy neighbor. Let anyone walking the neighborhood or sitting in a parked car see you watching them.

Make a note of car license plates and if anyone behaves suspiciously or stays in their car for a lengthy period, call the police.

2. Tell close neighbors you trust if you plan to be away or expect any deliveries. If they’re in the know they’re more likely to notice something you didn’t mention and spot unexpected callers at your home

(burglars often call at the front door of a house to check if anyone is there).

3. And, if you are going away, use timers to switch lights on and off at random, cancel newspapers and put a hold on your mail deliveries — or, to guard your schedule, arrange for the trusted neighbor to collect them.

4. Having a dog is a huge deterrent. Ironically, burglars are far more likely to avoid a house with a small dog than a big one — small dogs tend to be nervous and less easy to trick into calming down. They’re less trustful and bark louder and longer.

5. Take a walk around your home, inside and out, to figure where the weakest link in your security might be — like leaving a window open in a secluded spot.

High-risk places include the door from your garage into the house, back doors, side “breezeways” where a burglar would not be seen, and large shrubs close to the residence where thieves could hide.

6. Take action to increase protection in these vulnerable places — like installing keyed window locks and deadbolts on doors and using toughened glass in windows and doors. Remove those shrubs.

If you leave windows open on the second floor, make sure your extension ladder is locked away.

7. Be wary about who you allow into your home and how much information you give about your belongings and schedule.

This applies even with neighbors you don’t know or fully trust (“inside” jobs are not uncommon). And don’t leave valuables in view, inside or from outside the house.

8. If you’re able, vary the times you leave and return home. If your household has several cars, vary who drives them, making it more difficult for an observer to know who is home and when.

9. Make it tough for home burglary prowlers to know whether they’re under surveillance. Fake cameras can be good — but only if they could be taken for the real thing, not cheap plastic devices with flashing lights, which home burglars easily identify.

Fake security stickers or signs don’t work either, but, if you have an alarm, real stickers and signs work.

10. Control access to and around your property. Consider motion-activated lights, even on the street outside your home.

Neighborhood Watch, Video Surveillance, No Parking, and No Outlet signs can be effective against home burglary too. This way, would-be thieves know you mean business.

11. Motion-activated cameras are another powerful weapon – both as a home burglary deterrent and, linked to a computer (and, better yet, to a home network), to record images of your unwelcome visitors.

These days, these devices are inexpensive. Network-linked cameras costing around $85 can even email images so you have an off-site backup (ours sends images automatically to a separate Gmail account, so even if the camera is disabled, we still have the pictures online):

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=8JUKO&m=1cZe7RT3dmtWfo&b=xyS4U.azwEUmQX0ZFJh.IA

12. An alarm system, preferably with a visible box outside the house, will not only deter crooks but sound an immediate alert of a home burglary.

You might seriously consider a system that’s monitored 24/7 by a security company who will quickly notify law enforcement of an incident.

13. Gates, both to your property and in gated communities, can also be a home burglary deterrent, (even if there is another way out). If you have a guarded, gated community, use ”Resident” stickers.

Renters could have a temporary sticker they must surrender at the end of their lease, while visitors collect a pass which they must return on leaving.

14. Avoid creating temptation. Don’t leave things like lawn mowers and bikes unattended outside; lock them up.

Inside, burglars are more likely to go for “middle of the road” valuables than expensive jewelry and appliances – because they’re easier to redeem for cash.

15. Don’t hide a key. Home burglary crooks know all those ”secret” places.

Elicka recalls: “I interviewed a burglar who hit the same house every few years for 30 years.

“Astonishingly, as he was showing us what he liked about it, he jumped out of the car to show us where they had hidden the key, over the door, for about 10 years!”

More Home Burglary Dangers

There are two other important home burglary facts you should know.

First, if you’ve previously been burglarized, you’re statistically more likely — six times more, according to
Elicka — to be targeted again, so you will need to take extra precautions.

And second, home burglaries can involve much more than the theft of your valuables.

If the crooks steal personal and confidential information, you could become a victim of another major scam –identity theft.

Visit the Scambusters Identity Theft Information Center to learn more about this crime.

Our thanks to Elicka Peterson-Sparks for her advice. By following her tips , you can substantially cut the risk of becoming a home burglary victim.

Good morning!

Readers: FYI

Is This Common Kitchen Appliance Harming Your Health?

By now, you probably know that what you eat has a profound impact on your health. The mantra, “You are what you eat” is really true.

But you need to consider not only WHAT you buy, but how you cook it.

Eating much of your food raw is ideal. But most of us are not going to be able to accomplish a completely raw diet, and we’ll end up cooking some percentage of our food.

Smart food preparation starts with high quality foods and food preparation and that means saying sayonara to your microwave oven. Need to sterilize a dishcloth? Use your microwave. But zapping your casserole is a BAD idea if you are interested in preparing healthy food.

Why the no nukes policy?

When it comes to microwave ovens, the price for convenience is to compromise your health. In this article, I will review what we know about the effects microwaves on your food and on your body.

Sad State of Our Soils

Over the past century, the quality of fresh food has declined due to soil depletion, unsustainable farming practices, overproduction of crops, and the use of pesticides and herbicides. You can no longer assume you’re getting all of the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phytonutrients you need by eating a multitude of fresh produce–even if you’re eating organically.

Not surprisingly, the amount of nutrition in a calorie of food has been reduced over the past 50 years.

Three recent studies of historical food composition have shown 5 to 40 percent declines in some of the minerals in fresh produce, and another study found a similar decline in our protein sources. [1]

So now, more than ever, you must be careful to maximize the “bang for your buck” when it comes to the foods you eat.

Research shows that your microwave oven will NOT help you in these efforts–and in fact will threaten your health by violently ripping the molecules in your food apart, rendering some nutrients inert, at best, and carcinogenic at its worst.

Convenience Comes at Significant Toxic Threat to You and Your Family

Microwaves heat food by causing water molecules in it to resonate at very high frequencies and eventually turn to steam which heats your food. While this can rapidly heat your food, what most people fail to realize is that it also causes a change in your food’s chemical structure.

There are numerous issues that have emerged since microwave ovens were first introduced to consumers more than 40 years ago, besides depleting your food’s nutritional value, which will be addressed a bit later.

The first thing you probably noticed when you began microwaving food was how uneven the heating is.

“Hot spots” in microwaved food can be hot enough to cause burns–or build up to a “steam explosion.” This has resulted in admonitions to new mothers about NOT using the microwave to heat up baby bottles, since babies have been burned by super-heated formula that went undetected.

Another problem with microwave ovens is that carcinogenic toxins can leach out of your plastic and paper containers/covers, and into your food.

The January/February 1990 issue of Nutrition Action Newsletter reported the leakage of numerous toxic chemicals from the packaging of common microwavable foods, including pizzas, chips and popcorn. Chemicals included polyethylene terpthalate (PET), benzene, toluene, and xylene. Microwaving fatty foods in plastic containers leads to the release of dioxins (known carcinogens) and other toxins into your food. [8] [2]

One of the worst contaminants is BPA, or bisphenol A, an estrogen-like compound used widely in plastic products. In fact, dishes made specifically for the microwave often contain BPA, but many other plastic products contain it as well.

Microwaving distorts and deforms the molecules of whatever food or other substance you subject to it. An example of this is blood products.

Blood is normally warmed before being transfused into a person. Now we know that microwaving blood products damages the blood components. In fact, one woman died after receiving a transfusion of microwaved blood in 1991 , which resulted in a well-publicized lawsuit.

Microwave Radiation Leakage

You may have heard that there is some danger of microwaves escaping from your microwave while it’s operating. This was more of a risk with earlier models than with recent ones, which undergo more rigorous testing.

Theoretically, there are very small amounts of radiation leakage through the viewing glass, but the FDA reports these levels are “insignificant” and “well below the level known to harm people.”

The FDA has been regulating microwave ovens since 1971 through its electronic product radiation control program, which is mandated by the Electronic Product Radiation Control provisions of the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act [3] .

The FDA limits the amount of microwaves that can leak from an oven throughout its lifetime to 5 milliwatts (mW) per square centimeter at approximately 2 inches from the oven surface. Because microwave energy decreases dramatically as you move away from the source of the radiation, a measurement made 20 inches from your oven would be approximately one-hundredth of the value measured at 2 inches. [2]

The federal standard also requires all ovens to have “two independent interlock systems that stop the production of microwaves the moment the latch is released or the door is opened.”

And a monitoring system is also required, which stops the operation if one or both interlock systems fail.

You would think, with all these tests and regulations, that you’d be safe. However, according to Powerwatch, a non-profit independent organization with a central role in the microwave radiation debate:

“Even when the microwave oven is working correctly, the microwave levels within the kitchen are likely to be significantly higher than those from any nearby cellular phone base-stations. Remember also that microwaves will travel through walls if the microwave oven is against an inside wall.”
Powerwatch also states that we don’t really know if the current regulations about leakage are truly safe and recommends ovens be checked at least annually, since microwave emissions can change with normal use.

You might also consider purchasing a $20 testing device that allows you to check the radiation in your home.

Make sure that, if you are going to use your microwave for cleaning sponges or for any use at all, regularly examine the door and hinges to make sure they are sealing properly. If the door doesn’t close correctly, or if it’s warped, bent, or otherwise damaged, don’t use it at all!

Since your eyes are known to be particularly susceptible to microwave radiation (high microwave exposures are known to cause cataracts), I recommend stepping away from your microwave while it’s in use.

New Study Confirms Microwaves Affect Your Heart

A recent study examining the effects 2.4 GHz radiation (which is the frequency of radiation emitted by Wifi routers and microwave ovens) on the heart was just completed. The study found “unequivocal evidence” that microwave frequency radiation affects the heart at non-thermal levels that are well below federal safety guidelines, according to Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University [4] .

Dr. Havas says:

“This is the first study that documents immediate and dramatic changes in both heart rate and heart rate variability caused by an approved device that generates microwaves at levels well below (0.3 percent) federal guidelines in both Canada and the United States.”
No longer can skeptics claim that microwaves produce no immediate biological effects at ordinary household levels!

The study will be appearing in a peer-reviewed journal sometime during the summer of 2010. If you are experiencing rapid or irregular heartbeat, pain or pressure in your chest, you will want to visit your physician and share this video with him or her (second video on this page).

There is also evidence that this same frequency of radiation causes blood sugar to spike in susceptible individuals and may actually be the cause of one type of diabetes. For details about this, watch the first video below.

TAOXur, I must’ve missed your comment yesterday while I was posting. Thanks for the info. I HOPE that the Sgynphi cooperate too. PS. This write is for you. :)

Conflict Minerals 101

Readers: Surprisingly this is the first time that I have seen this video. Knowing exactly how we acquire these minerals and exactly which ones we use every day, and knowing that every day women are killed because we have to be connected to the world, is really sickening.

We need to connect, no doubt. I am aware that without my computer I wouldn’t be able to connect with all of you. It is important. But how important is it to get a new cell phone every time the new model comes out? How important is it to get a new computer every few years?  And many do this just to keep up with the Joneses….impress their friends…brag.

Remember when things seem to last forever? Remember how we used to pride ourselves by saying how old something was and yet it still worked as if it was new? I want to go back to those days.

And not only do we have to be conscious of our purchases but the manufacturers need to get off their high tech horses, think past the profits, and consider the plight of women. Yes, I am speaking to you Apple. I love my MAC, but I love women more.

Shouldn’t everyone feel that way? Shouldn’t corporations do the right thing and put a stop to this murdering over minerals? You would think. But obviously if it is happening, and it is big time, they care little about the precious lives of women, and more about the piece of metal called “profit”.

Just this morning I received an e-mail from Apple: “New Mac. Free ipod touch – Last chance.” Just another way to tempt people to buy what they don’t need all because it is free. Women are dying because Apple is giving things away. Just how many women will die today so that you can have a free ipod?

I have said it before, that the corporations won’t change unless we stop supporting them by not purchasing their products. The lives of women are in our hands. How about keeping them out of our pockets and purses, and picking up a pen and writing a letter.

And how about explaining to your child why they’re not going to get a new computer this year? How about sending your child off to begin the school year with a little something different than most of the other kids? Send them off with their old computer and cell phone. Show your kid how un-cool it is to be carrying a conflict computer that is killing women and girls, and show them how cool they could be knowing that because they aren’t buying into the latest and greatest, THEY ARE SAVING LIVES. Now that is something to brag about.

Besides saying “No” to the “new”…there is another way – the no conflict way. Demand it.

Take Action

Commit to Purchase Conflict-Free Electronics

Help us increase demand for conflict-free electronics. Urge the 21 biggest electronics companies to make their products conflict free. The message is clear: “If you take conflict out of your cell phone, I will buy it.”

Conflict Minerals Language in Regulatory Reform Bill

Last week Enough and activists around the United States applauded the Senate’s passing of the Wall Street Reform bill which included language that will help curb the trade in conflict minerals that are fueling the ongoing conflict in eastern Congo, the deadliest in the world. Today President Obama signed that bill into law, reinforcing the U.S. commitment to bringing peace to eastern Congo.

The new legislation mandates that the Executive branch through the Department of State and USAID, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the private industries that use these minerals to ramp up their efforts to ensure that these minerals are not used to fund conflict in Congo. To learn more click here.
