Going green on your day

Posted by michellemoquin on April 29th, 2008

 www.time.com/time/specials/ 2007/environment/a...

It is that time of year again when nuptials are in the works.  Whether is is your first, second, or ‘who’s counting?’ wedding ceremony, how about doing it the modern way and going green? Yes, eco-friendly can apply here too.

The Invitations:  Saving trees doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice style.  ‘Earthly Affair, takes our earth into account.  They print on FSC- certified cotton or 100% post-consumer paper.  So you know those 250+ invites aren’t going to be responsible for cutting down one tree in honor of your day – now that is cool.  They offer a wonderful selection of fonts, colors, and design choices, and you can do everything on-line.

Conflict-free Diamonds:  Let your ring sparkle brilliantly – no blood diamonds here.  You can wear it with a smile knowing that the gold is recycled and the stones are conflict-free.  Dawes Design will create the perfect ring for your wedding or any other occasion.

Round two:  Sloppy seconds these are not! Encore Bridal or Bell’ancora offer once-worn wedding dresses from all of your favorite designers at a discount price, saving you money and saving the environment too.

Bridesmaid bliss:  Tired of those hideous dresses in even more hideous colors? It is modern and chic to have your maids looking  lovely too. Adorn them in outfits that are not only flattering but sustainable too.   Earth & Sky  has what you are looking for.  And to complete the outfit: leather shoes are overrated, go for  vegan shoes from Té Casan.

Register Reality: And if you are truly going green for your big day then how about for life? Registering with a sustainable company too is a must for all of those new items for your home.   Check out these eco-friendly sites that offer items that are stylish and chic too: Branch and Global Table   are two of my favorites and if you are ever in need to find other products, suppliers etc., Greenopia: The Urban Dwellers Guide to Green Living, is a fabulous site to bookmark.

There you have it!

Happy nuptials whatever number you are celebrating!

?????

Al:  I have been so wrapped up in my own stuff….I too wanted to say I am sorry about your mother passing so early…But I have to say, I agree…what a beautiful gift to be able to give to her. I would turn it into a positive and celebrate your birthday even more so knowing that she was released from her body…she gave life to you on that day and you gave it back in the freedom of formlessness.  I just have a feeling that she would want you to be happy on that day.  Just my little two cents.

ZL:  B had the deer antlers too – she despised them! :)

See you all tomorrow…

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle  ?

Ok, not sure why it didn’t have a place for my name here but it’s me: Zen Lill.

I bookmarked several of the sites, thanks, Michelle! I like the vegan shoes, although it depends on comfort of faux snake-skin, etc…some ‘natural’ fauxs are not as comfy as real leather, etc..just my opinion, still willing to try them!

I am posting for the last time today @ http://lilliandevin.com/wordpress/ from this point on, in order to fully regain my MOJO ala Al’s recipe, I have fixed the font/contrast issue by just setting up a new site, it’s easier to download pics and youtube and so I will be getting more ‘visual’ eventually – haven’t figured out the music scene yet – just for testing (and laughs) I have the Sat Night Live ‘cougars’ video on there in case you missed it. It is in no way reflective of my state current or past, my taste in men/cubs or to be misconstrued as anything of the sort, how’s that for a disclaimer?!

Anyway, please check it out and let me know what you think @ http://edgy1.wordpress.com/

Caio, purging/packing to be done : ( and I don wanna so it

The “special interest” of America” (SIA) have aligned themselves with any party that will allow them to continue to fleece the American people.

The republican appointed judges on the supreme court have abolished the right of Americans to a federal right to cast an unfettered voted in their respective states. They set a new precedent that will allow states to set up barriers to prevent voters from voting along partisan lines. States can now force the elderly, infirm, or anyone else to go get a picture ID before they can vote or any other requirement as long as it serves a legitimate state interest.

This is just another version of the poll tax that a more enlightened Supreme Court struck down decades ago. The majority opinion was written by Scalia. This is a man who sits on the highest court in the land and goes on Sixty Minutes to promote his book and says that torture is not punishment.

This is just the beginning of a orchestrated effort by SIA to enable the republican party to steal political elections and gain a defacto dictatorship over the American people. They have appointed judges like Scalia who are young enough to sit on federal benches and deprive the people of a judicial remedy to corporate or SIA criminal acts.

As for your comment on Rev. Wright, and the media following the lead of the Clinton campaign, I think you give Hilary too much credit. This is more of a case of a race of people who are trying to destroy the messenger.

Rev. Wright says that this country participates in terror when it makes war on people. He defines terror as making war on the innocent knowingly and without regard to who the victims are or the number of innocent of victims targeted.

Using that as a guideline he says that when the USA invaded Granada they killed innocent men women and children. When they bombed Panama to punish Noreiga, they killed innocent men women and children. When they bombed Kadafy’s home they killed his child. When they bombed Iraq they killed hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children.

He said that God damns those who move from taking revenge on the armies of a country and move to smashing the heads of the babies of that country.

He accused America of possibly intentionally giving the AID’S virus to black Americans. I am a white American and that hurt and angered me. Until another white American, Madaline, reminded me that white males will do any unspeakable act to further their own aims.

She reminded me that they had in the past poisoned thousands of American Indian tribes into extinction by taking blankets that had been used by sick American who had small pox, tuberculosis, measles, etc. and given them to their men, women, and children for use. They did this knowing that those tribes had no natural immunities to those diseases. Then they stood by and watched while those men, women and children died agonizing deaths.

The end result was that a estimated 12 million men, women, and children were exterminated by white men of America. Google it. White men being the writers of America’s history books have whittled it down to a few million. But they do not deny or apologize for the American Indian Holocaust. After they were savages. so they bashed the heads of their babies.

One doesn’t even have to go that far back to find circumstantial evidence that might suggest that American white males could without remorse inject the black population with AIDS. Consider the Tuskegee Experiments.

July 25, 2002 –Thirty years ago today, the Washington Evening Star newspaper ran this headline on its front page: “Syphilis Patients Died Untreated.” With those words, one of America’s most notorious medical studies, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, became public. ??”For 40 years, the U.S. Public Health Service has conducted a study in which human guinea pigs, not given proper treatment, have died of syphilis and its side effects,” Associated Press reporter Jean Heller wrote on July 25, 1972. “The study was conducted to determine from autopsies what the disease does to the human body.” ??The next morning, every major U.S. newspaper was running Heller’s story. For Morning Edition, NPR’s Alex Chadwick reports on how the Tuskegee experiment was discovered after 40 years of silence.??The Public Health Service, working with the Tuskegee Institute, began the study in 1932. Nearly 400 poor black men with syphilis from Macon County, Ala., were enrolled in the study. They were never told they had syphilis, nor were they ever treated for it. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the men were told they were being treated for “bad blood,” a local term used to describe several illnesses, including syphilis, anemia and fatigue. ??For participating in the study, the men were given free medical exams, free meals and free burial insurance. ??At the start of the study, there was no proven treatment for syphilis. But even after penicillin became a standard cure for the disease in 1947, the medicine was withheld from the men. The Tuskegee scientists wanted to continue to study how the disease spreads and kills. The experiment lasted four decades, until public health workers leaked the story to the media.

One should be able to understand how races like the American Indian and the African Americans could believe that they could be the targets of American white males inflicting them with AIDS. Substitute syphilis for AIDS. The more apt question is why do the American white males pretend to be so alarmed anyone would think that they were capable of doing it. Oh, they do protest way too much.

Notice how that alibi they love to use that no one would, could keep such a terrible secret is once again disprove, It’s just another “conspiracy theory.” Yet whites kept this secret among themselves for 40 years. More and more it seems that the only defense for these terrible conspiracies is that it is “just a conspiracy theory.”

Rev. Wright says that it is wrong to love your country “right or wrong.” One can love America without accepting or condoning it wrongful behavior. He adds that God damns wrongful behavior and the doer of that wrongful behavior.

Most importantly he distinguishes between worshiping god and worshiping God. He points out that the men on the top deck of the slave ship is praying to a different god when they prey for the safe journey of their slave ship than the slaves below deck when they pray to their God for deliverance from slavery.

Who are these people praying to who practice racism, greed, dishonesty, and/or theft on a daily basis? Are they just hypocrites or just ignorant?

    Lydia,

I have said before regarding Bush’s remark that “God spoke to me in a dream to get Saddam Hussein.”
I don’t think this is the same god that I have known of over all of my years…

  4. Al Says:

Michelle and Zen Lill: I must thank the both of you for your kind words regarding the death of my mother. The circumstances leading to this event are the real tragedy.

I have tried to write more, but I cannot. Every single member of my family has blamed me for my mothers death. My father has dozens of times. Whenever it suits him Much the same way I was blamed for my dear brother Bruce’s death 17 years earlier.

I have spent the better part of my life just learning to live with myself. Although these accusations are false (try telling that to a grief stricken teenager) I had conveniently taken on these roles.

Forget it. I cannot comment on this subject. Michelle I thank you for your spin on releasing my mother and I do look at this much like you say. Zl, thank you for all of your concern.

This does not belong on this blog, what was I thinking? I will leave this buried in my past, where it belongs. I would have liked to shine some light on this as I am sure it would have done me much good, but this blog is not a means for my own redemption. And I will not use it as such. My demons have been slain and I have already come to terms with these allegations.

Lydia: interesting piece on more of mans inhumanity to man. I have heard of the infected blankets being given to the American Indians, and of the experiments done on whole towns of blacks regarding syphilis, and other diseases, and I am sure that it goes much deeper than even that. Again I am appalled.

Thank you for your attempts at enlightening me, I am just not very open to it right now.

Are they hypocrites or just ignorant. Try both.

    Al
