who owns your home (part 3)

Good morning!

Really, the question is, “Who owns your mortgage?” Once again, it seems the video may not be working, so click here.  I promise, that although it is the same topic, it is a different video from the last two days, and addresses some interesting points.  :) This one is from 60 Minutes Overtime:

Mortgage mess: Who really owns your mortgage?

Scott Pelley explains a bizarre aftershock of the U.S. financial collapse: An epidemic of forged and missing mortgage documents

Do you know who really owns your mortgage? As Scott Pelley reports on “60 Minutes” this week, that question has become a nightmare for many homeowners since the invention of mortgage-backed securities. Yes, those were the exotic investments that sparked the financial collapse in this country. And the’re still causing problems.

As it turns out, Wall Street cut corners when it bundled homeowners’ mortgages into securities that were traded from investor to investor. Now that banks are foreclosing on people, they’re finding that the legal documents behind many mortgages are missing. So, what do the banks do? As Pelley explains in this video, some companies appear to be resorting to forgery and phony paperwork in what looks like a nationwide epidemic.

Even if you’re not at risk of foreclosure, there could be legal ramifications for a homeowner if the chain of title has been lost. Watch the “60 Minutes” report and listen to Pelley’s discussion with “60 Minutes Overtime” editor Ann Silvio about the findings of his reporting team.

Watch Scott Pelley’s report.

Have you contacted your mortgage servicing company to find out whether your mortgage has been bundled and sold? Did you get a clear answer and a copy of your mortgage paperwork to back it up? Share your experience with other homeowners below.

*******

Readers: Although this is good stuff, don’t you love how Pelley and the interviewer Silvio say, “You don’t know whether to laugh or gasp in horror”? My guess is neither one of them is losing their home, because this is no laughing matter to those that are.

It still irritates the hell out of me that Pelley isn’t saying how criminal this is of our banks. He shows us that young kids were forging signatures, but why isn’t he telling us who the real criminals are? I’m not giving an out for these young forgers. Not at all. I think they should be arrested, and convicted. But it is the banks who started this – they are the fraudulent ones. Why isn’t he saying this?

Pelley explains in this video, some companies appear to be resorting to forgery and phony paperwork in what looks like a nationwide epidemic.

These companies are not appearing to be resorting to forgery etc – they are! This is very clear to me – why not say so?

And why is no lawyer taking this case and running with it?? This is racketeering big time and everyone is in collusion.

All I can say is, “Where is Keith when you need him?”

Scott: I was going to speak about the points you brought up this morning. My thoughts exactly. Conspiracies do exist all around us. And if so many of our American youth can keep a secret of this magnitude, how easily it would be to keep a secret of the assassination of a president, for instance as you noted,  when only a few people know. Evidently this proves it would not be difficult. Thanks for your comments.

Vivian: Me too. I am such a romantic. Beautiful poetry always moves me, especially when it’s coming from my man. Lately I miss his written words. Hint hint…

Speaking of hinting…I hinted the other day who the ruthless are. Even W63453e, didn’t have to spell out the name of the political party – we all know what he was talking about. And we all know who is behind big banks and big corps. More needs to be said here but I am done. Your turn. Blog me.

Oh, but before I sign off, I wanted to tell all of you Zen Lill fans that she has started her blog again! Yah! You now can read her interesting writes somewhere else besides here. :) And for those of you that love her exercise tips, you’ll find those and a lot more about how to balance your life by visiting her new site – Check it out and enjoy! http://getyourlifebalanced.com/

Peace Out.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Tuesday, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (WI-01) announced the Republican’s budget proposal. It is unbelievably bad – literally. The GOP budget not only repeals the new health care law it eliminates Medicare and Medicaid as we know it.1

Fight for these life saving programs today. Call you Member of Congress and tell them to vote NO on the Republican’s extremist budget.

The Republican’s proposal gives millionaires huge tax breaks while seniors and hard-working families pay more for health care and get less coverage. Ryan’s plan would radically undermine the economic security of America’s middle class. It helps Wall Street-run health insurance companies make record-breaking profits and pay their CEOs outrageous sums to deny people the care they paid for and need.2

Nowhere in the Republican plan is there any shared sacrifice. There’s no fairness. The big corporations and super-rich aren’t asked to pitch in. Instead they get even richer. This budget changes the rules and reshapes this country in a breathtakingly dangerous way.

This budget would eviscerated programs that everyone in this country depend on. Republicans are attacking every single one of us.3

The GOP’s budget breaks America’s most basic promise: That if you work hard and play by the rules, you can take care of your family and retire with peace of mind.4 Call Congress today.

    Isn’t this wonderful news?

    Staying Close to Grown Kids

    Jane Isay

Parents often feel marginalized as their children make the transition into adulthood. Grown kids never seem to have time for them.

They ask for advice but just as often ignore it. Quarrels and sometimes long silences are almost inevitable — and painful.

Both generations find themselves walking on eggshells as they figure out the rules of their changed relationship. Here’s how to successfully make the transition…

    DON’T DEMAND

I call children in their 20s the “gotta go” generation. You phone them to have a nice chat, and they say “gotta go” after about one minute. They rarely visit. Phone calls don’t get returned. Parents understandably feel brushed aside — and frustrated.

Children at this age are legally adults, but psychologically they’re in an in-between zone. They’re learning to be independent and need to push away their parents.

At the same time, they crave support and approval from their parents. As they become more confident of themselves and trust that parents will respect their boundaries, things do get better.

A lot of parents make their children feel guilty by saying things such as, “You never call” or “I hardly ever see you.” Relationships filled with guilt don’t thrive. The more parents demand, the more likely it is that their children will find excuses to keep their distance.

What to do: When things get tense, stay in touch but without exerting pressure. Send chatty E-mails that don’t require a reply.

Drop a book or an interesting article in the mail for your child to read. Little gestures help maintain closeness but still allow grown children to set their own agendas.

Humor helps. My youngest son, who works in politics, is extremely busy. He often doesn’t return my phone messages.

Once, when I really needed to talk to him, I left a message that said, “If you don’t call back, I’ll vote for the opposition.” He called back right away.

    GIVE RESPECTFUL ADVICE

One of the hardest jobs of parenting is to stand back when a child is having difficulties — failing in college… losing a job… having financial problems… getting a divorce… etc. Our hearts break when a grown child is in trouble. Our instinct as parents is to fix things.

Unfortunately, unsolicited advice comes across as meddling. People rarely change their behavior when they feel lectured to. Often, they withdraw.

Helpful: Wait for your child to ask before giving advice. Even then, make sure that your advice doesn’t come across as judgmental. Instead of saying, “Here’s what you should do,” say…

“Some people might think that the best thing… ”

“Someone I know was in the same situation… ”

    “Have you thought about… ”

One woman told me that her children often turn to their father for advice because he always says, “Do whatever you think is best.” There’s no greater gift to a grown child than saying that you trust his/her judgment.

    STEP DOWN FROM THE PEDESTAL

We parents spend decades being in charge of our children’s lives. Our children see us as symbols of authority and power.

Some parents try to maintain the aura of power after their children leave home. That’s a mistake. Shedding the parental mystique can lead parents and children into a more realistic and honest relationship — and a closer one.

Share your humanity with your children. Let them know about your hopes, fears and disappointments. Be a real person — not some austere figure to look up to or fear.

Example: A woman I know sought job advice from her successful executive daughter. It worked. The mother got a raise, and the daughter got the satisfaction of helping her mom.

Some parents go too far in the other direction, trying too hard to be their children’s friends. They share intimate details (such as about their sex lives) that children never want to hear. Be honest — but save sensitive confidences for your closest friends.

    ADMIT TO OLD HURTS

All parents have regrets about past behavior relating to their children. People who don’t deal with such guilt may find themselves withdrawing from their children, because it’s less painful than being in situations that remind them of things they’re ashamed of.

If you’re feeling guilty about something from the past that involves your now-grown child, put it on the table. Apologize and talk about it. Everyone will feel better afterward. You might even discover that what you feel worst about didn’t even bother your child.

Example: One mom I talked to apologized to her adult son for sending him to such a demanding school. He told her that the school was fine — what he really had hated was camp.

    NEVER CRITICIZE A SPOUSE

One of the biggest mistakes that parents make is criticizing the spouse or partner of one of their children. There might be disagreements about politics or parenting styles… or there might simply be bad “chemistry.”

Share these feelings with your friends perhaps — but not with your children. If you force a grown child to make a choice between you and his partner, you’re going to lose.

Your child can employ the ultimate weapon — distance. If you criticize the partner or act in a way that’s disrespectful to him, your child will pull away. He might do it with regrets, but he’ll do it anyway.

Also, don’t interfere with your children’s decisions about raising their own kids (unless you feel they are being truly negligent).

Maybe you think your grandkids are getting too many treats or going to bed too late at night. Stay out of it. They will survive.

Personal interviewed Jane Isay, author of Walking on Eggshells: Navigating the Delicate Relationship Between Adult Children and Parents (Flying Dolphin).

She traveled the country, interviewing more than 75 people about how to stay close to grown kids. She has been a book editor for more than 40 years and edited the nonfiction classics Praying for Sheetrock and Friday Night Lights. She lives in New York City (not far from her two grown sons).

    —————
A man known to the world as The Minimalist — Mark Bittman, the New York Times’ food writer had some comments about the politics of food.
In a column called ‘Why We’re Fasting,’ Bittman explains that he and over 4000 others are on hunger strike to boycott the GOP’s devastating budget cuts to programs that assist the poor and hungry. Particularly, the protesters are targeting cuts to food stamps, WIC and aid to the international poor and farmers. ‘These supposedly deficit-reducing cuts — they’d barely make a dent,’ Bittman writes, ‘will quite literally cause more people to starve to death, go to bed hungry or live more miserably than are doing so now. And: The bill would increase defense spending.’
The Minimalist has teamed with World Food Prize laureate David Beckmann, who presides over Bread for the World. He details the specifics of the fast, which he’s doing until Friday — senses are heightened, food smells pervade — but he is at his most salient here:

“This is a moral issue; the budget is a moral document. We can take care of the deficit and rebuild our infrastructure and strengthen our safety net by reducing military spending and eliminating corporate subsidies and tax loopholes for the rich. Or we can sink further into debt and amoral individualism by demonizing and starving the poor. Which side are you on?”

    ———————
Former Rep. Tony Hall (D-Ohio), the head of the Alliance to End Hunger, told The Hill Friday that Democrats are not doing enough to ensure the cuts do not become law, and he will lead an open-ended fast to protest proposed cuts to domestic and international food programs contained in the House-passed six month spending bill to give a “voice to the voiceless.” He will be joined in his water-only fast by Rev. David Beckmann, the president of Bread for the World; Jim Wallis, the president of Sojourners; Ritu Sharma of Women Thrive and Ruth Messinger of American Jewish World Service. Beckmann said in an interview that so far 350 others have pledged to join the fast and the groups are seeking more support.
Hall told The Hill that conditions for the world’s poor are worse now, given worldwide food price inflation.
He pointed out in an interview that 50 million Americans (THAT’S 15 PERCENT OF THE US POPULATION) and 1 billion worldwide do not have enough to eat. He said worldwide 25,000 people die of hunger and hunger-related illnesses per day and not enough has been done to make the public aware of such facts.
    ——————
This is a moral issue! In the left hand side of Michelle’s blog, under Madeline Speaks, she provides all the links to contact officials in your state. I beseech you to take the time to do so. Don’t think this does not affect you. That empty dinner plate could soon be yours. We MUST do what we can to convince our politicians to vote NO.

one simple way to place him in happiness
one simple way to carry on
standing alone he picked up his courage
out on his own no footsteps to follow
into the world through all sort of weather
he donned on his coat to cover his humanness

searching for life behind loves open doors
