Messages From God?

Good morning!

Well…Michele Bachman seems to think that Hurricane Irene and the earthquake were “messages from God to warn “politicians” to start heeding divine guidance…” !

Michele Bachmann Says Hurricane Irene And Earthquake Are Divine Warnings To Washington

WASHINGTON – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann told Floridians Sunday that Hurricane Irene and the earthquake felt along much of the East Coast last week were messages from God to warn “politicians” to start heeding divine guidance, which she suggested is being channeled through small government conservatives.

“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’” Bachmann, a third-term Minnesota congresswoman, told a crowd in Sarasota that the St. Petersburg Times estimated contained around 1,000 people.

“Listen to the American people, because the American people are roaring right now,” Bachmann continued. “They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.”

Her comments appear to link God’s will with those who believe the U.S. government is too large and intrudes too much on people’s lives. A Bachmann spokeswoman has not responded to a request for clarification of the congresswoman’s comments.

Bachmann’s comments come on the heels of remarks that Glenn Beck, the former Fox News personality, made on his radio program last week. Beck said the hurricane and earthquake were warnings to a different group: the American people. In essence, Beck said, the weather events were a dry run for people to prepare themselves for future disasters.

“How many warnings do you think you’re going to get, and how many warnings do you deserve? This hurricane that is coming thorough the East Coast, for anyone who’s in the East Coast and has been listening to me say ‘Food storage!’ ‘Be prepared!’” Beck said. “If you’ve waited, this hurricane is a blessing. It is a blessing. It is God reminding you — as was the earthquake last week — it’s God reminding you you’re not in control.”

Both Bachmann and Beck appear to be tapping into a deep but often unspoken fear in many Americans –- many of them, but not all, in the conservative grassroots –- that the country is crumbling from within, financially and morally, and increasingly vulnerable to outside aggressors or to internal disorder.

No Michele,  these are not messages from God, these are messages from the aliens to stop messing with their personal property, or you’re going to feel the fury of a pissed off alien. Don’t you read my blog? Get with it. Don’t be so out of touch with reality because you think you’re so in tune with God.

  1. Health Info Says:

STYROFOAM REALLY IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH

My niece is a college student, and forget about the healthy snacks that my sister once plied her with — frozen blueberries, raw carrots and peppers, Greek yogurt.

Now she and her roommates subsist on salty soups in Styrofoam containers that they heat in the communal microwave. This, too, will pass, I know, but a recent US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) report provides greater cause for concern.

In June, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of HHS, added styrene — the chemical used in the manufacture of Styrofoam cups and food containers — to its list of substances that are “reasonably anticipated” to cause cancer. Styrene has also been linked to nerve damage and hormonal disruption.

THE CHEMICALS LEACH INTO YOUR FOOD

Styrofoam is made from the plastic polystyrene, which is based on building blocks called styrene monomers.

When you drink your steaming cup of coffee or spoon your chicken noodle soup or chili out of a Styrofoam cup, you also take in small doses of chemicals that leach from it.

“Trace amounts of styrene as well as various chemical additives in polystyrene migrate into food — particularly when liquids are hot,” explains Olga Naidenko, PhD, a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org).

“This is a problem, because polystyrene is very commonly used as disposable packaging for hot food and beverages” — and has been for many years!

The HHS says that the levels released from food containers are very low — but for me, that’s not very comforting when I think about the literally thousands of doses that we each have taken in over the years.

Then, too, every day we are bombarded with a multitude of toxins in the environment. It all adds up… so now, are you willing to accept toxic industrial chemicals in your soup?

    DON’T SWALLOW IT

Reducing exposure to cancer-causing agents is something we all want, but it takes knowledge and action on each person’s part to achieve that…

    Boycott Styrofoam.

Do not eat or drink out of Styrofoam containers (even if you’re a college student). I know it sounds obvious, but in today’s food culture, that’s easier said than done.

It’s especially important not to consume anything hot, oily, acidic (including tomato sauce-based foods) or alcoholic from Styrofoam, since heat, oil, acid and alcohol increase leaching.

This rules out, for example, hot drinks, citrus beverages, dressed salads, take-out burgers and, of course, beer and wine.

Don’t store food in Styrofoam — there are plenty of other packaging options.

Be especially cognizant when you’re eating out at a restaurant and find yourself asking the waiter if he/she will pack up what you didn’t finish so that you can take it home.

Ask if they have alternatives to Styrofoam, or even bring your own container from home.Choose healthier food and beverage containers.

Eat and drink out of toxin-free glass, ceramic, stoneware or BPA-free plastic — not Styrofoam. (Read about health concerns with the chemical BPA in standard plastic containers in the July 4, 2011 issue of Daily Health News.)

Beat the heat. Whatever else you do, don’t microwave food in Styrofoam. Reheat leftovers in glass, ceramic or stoneware.

    BYOC.

Bring your own cup to coffee shops and diners that use Styrofoam for beverages.

Some ecofriendly businesses in my neighborhood even give you 25 cents off to encourage you to do the right thing for the environment — which happens to be the right thing for your body as well.

Vote with your feet. Patronize food establishments that provide recyclable cardboard take-out containers, not Styrofoam.

There is a story about the Greek gods. They were bored, so they invented human beings, but they were still bored, so they invented love.

Then they weren’t bored any longer, so they decided to try love for themselves.

And finally they invented laughter, so they could stand it.

  3. HOWIE Says:

    Michelle:

People who read your blog know exactly what happened. A group of aliens have caused an earthquake and changed the size and course of hurricane Irene to hit the Northeast coast as punishment for trying to put listening and tracking devices into the returned hovercraft which was found by our government in San Francisco.

God had nothing to do with it. Michele Bachmann is playing into the fears that are reverberating throughout our nation due to uncertainty and hard economic times.

There are many who believe in Armageddon coming soon — that these are the “end days”. Bachmann, among others, is bringing out the fear that hides in the subconscious of many so she can reach more potential voters. It appears that the republicans have found another means of bringing people over to their side … Fear and Religion. They both can be great motivators.

The hype of the Mayan calendar and religious beliefs in the end of days and the fall of our civilization are all being played up by the media. Bachmann is just jumping on the bandwagon in order to gain voters in the 2012 election.

You are correct, Michelle. Politics and religion are joining hands once again — a very dangerous combination. Once again, we are ignoring what we have learned from history.

    HOWIE

  4. Zen Lill Says:

    Hi Misch : )

Howie, too true, politics and religion are a very dangerous combo unfortunately it is teh only combo being sold and people are lining up to buy into it (see Roberts comments) it’s insane and I have a hard time watching the news media report on any of it. This seems to be the only media channel worth listening in on, the rest I go to for some details but always media from outside the US, our media is mostly opinion, religious or politically affiliated.

Russ, thank you…hadn’t realized I’d been MIA but I guess I was, busy doing that summer travel and working thing and both took up more time and energy than I expected. I love my kid but seriously I am counting down the days till my sweet little offspring is outta here!

…and there had better be some pomp and circumstance for MLK, hurricanes notwithstanding, I’m sure just to get that memorial done took some fighting with bigots. I want to see a ceremony that’s noteworthy, let’s give credit where credit is due. Aliens must think we’re out of our minds with all this talk of skin color/gender non-equality, yes? I can’t help thinking ‘WTF’ it’s the year 2011…really, we’re still on this/these subject(s)?

    Luv, Zen Lill

Glad to see you back too. Your insight is always a fresh approach. I know what you mean. I have a 13 and 14 that fight me on every issue.

I can’t wait until they are 18. I don’t remember but maybe I thought I knew everything when I was that age too.

    Hope your vacation was nice.

  7. Bob Says:

Hello, Michelle, I’m back from a long illness. I had by-pass surgery. Recovery gave me a lot of time to read and I met a lot of youngsters as my visitors always brought their little’ums.

    ==================

“look what I wrote” said the little boy.

His father examined the paper, a bit puzzled as he could not make out what it said.

“What does it say?” he asked his son.

“I don’t know,” said the son. “I ain’t learn to read yet.”

  8. Zen Lill Says:

Thank you, Donna, and my trip was great…I was back on the east coast just days before the quake and hurricanes came whipping through…I got lucky ; ) my hiatus was also due to my phone/email hacking but I got to the bottom of that – it’s actually a funny story but until I’m positive there’s not a trace to here, I won’t tell it.

I will ask the question though…if you could trace someone/anyone, a hubby/wife/lover’s texts/emails without them ever finding out, would you do it?? I asked several people, a few friends, a few casual peeps and everyone said yes, and only a few hesitated for a few seconds. hmmm…anyone feel differently on that? I know I answered no at first, it’s invasion of privacy (and not legal btw) but now I’m wondering if I might need to rethink that…? (I found out inadvertently…)

    Luv, Zen Lill

  10. Alycedale Says:

Zen Lill, I wouldn’t do it because I wouldn’t want it done to me. It is like asking if you would peep into a window and watch an unsuspecting person undress, bathe or use the toilet.

The same people who said they would invade the privacy of others without a second thought would be livid it they were spied upon while doing many or all of the above activities.

Who are they to decide how violated another person should or should not feel if their privacy was invaded?

I might not mind being observed by a peeping tom but be terribly upset at having my mail read or my phone conversations monitored or being followed however it was done.

No one has the right to predetermine how far he or she can go in invading another’s privacy.

If you are willing to invade or condone the invasion of the privacy of another, don’t be surprised when the shoe is on the other foot.

And don’t expect to be understood when you say, “but that was going too far.” What is “going too far” to one person maybe considered just a start in the invasion of of that person’s privacy to the invader.

Go ahead open up that can of worms. Only the sick, the sociopath, or the perverted are going to benefit by that attitude. Those of us who have some boundaries will always lose because they will never be respected once this type of behavior becomes the acceptable norm.

We need to push our legislators to write and enact laws that protect potential victims and to deter the inventors and sellers of such invasive equipment.

Anything less will only encourage the depraved to act with depravity.
