Not Insured? Let ‘em Die
Posted by Michelle Moquin on September 13th, 2011
Good morning!
A bit of a startling moment happened near the end of Monday night’s CNN debate when a hypothetical question was posed to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).
What do you tell a guy who is sick, goes into a coma and doesn’t have health insurance? Who pays for his coverage? “Are you saying society should just let him die?” Wolf Blitzer asked.
“Yeah!” several members of the crowd yelled out.
Paul interjected to offer an explanation for how this was, more-or-less, the root choice of a free society. He added that communities and non-government institutions can fill the void that the public sector is currently playing.
“We never turned anybody away form the hospital,” he said of his volunteer work for churches and his career as a doctor. “We have given up on this whole concept that we might take care of ourselves, assume responsibility for ourselves … that’s the reason the cost is so high.”
The answer may have struck a truly libertarian tone but it was clearly overshadowed by the members of the crowd who enthusiastically cheered the prospect of letting a man die rather than picking up the tab for his coverage.
Readers: Sickening isn’t it?
A side note on Jobs: Thankfully the White House officially released its American Jobs Act yesterday. At least we know president Obama is concerned about our high unemployment and has a plan.

CURE FOR MACULAR DEGENERATION GETS CLOSER
Several years ago, my neighbor joined the 30% of people over age 75 who have age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It has been wrenching to watch her, once an active reader, having to cope with the loss of sight.
I’ve been bringing her books on tape, but such things are small consolation — and I keep scanning the latest research findings, hoping medicine will be able to offer her something more.
So far, I’ve found that while there are no miracles for my neighbor, there is hope for those who have not sustained the level of damage she has.
It’s been known for some time that diet can be a major help to eye health, specifically a diet containing foods with a carotene antioxidant called lutein.
But now recent information is helping us to understand why — and will, I hope, make you finally start taking this easy step to protect and preserve your own eyes!
In a new study from Japan designed to help us better understand lutein’s healing properties, researchers fed one group of mice a lutein-free diet and another group a diet supplemented with 0.1% lutein.
They then exposed both groups to a high-intensity light for three hours. Afterward, the researchers evaluated eye tissue from the mice and found that those that had consumed lutein had lower levels of a negative biomarker (gamma-H2AX) indicating breaks in DNA.
Furthermore, in these mice, the activity of a protein called EYA3 showed DNA repair was much higher than in that of the other mice.
So now we know how, at the biochemical level, lutein serves as a pair of “internal sunglasses” to protect the eyes.
I spoke with ophthalmologist Abdhish R. Bhavsar, MD, director of clinical research at the Retina Center of Minnesota and clinical correspondent for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, about lutein.
He said he’s looking forward to findings expected in several years from a large ongoing study called Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2) that will give us direct information about the role of lutein and the progression of AMD in human eyes.
BRIGHTEN UP YOUR DIET TO SAVE YOUR SIGHT
In the meantime, however, everyone agrees that a diet containing lutein is important for eye health.
Foods that contain lutein include dark, leafy vegetables, such as kale, spinach, Romaine lettuce and Swiss chard, as well as eggs, broccoli, tomatoes, avocados, sweet potatoes, squash and mangoes.
Studies have shown that just 6 mg of lutein a day can help protect against AMD.
This is an easy amount to get from food — for example, two ounces of cooked spinach contains 6 mg of lutein.
(AREDS2 is using 10 mg/day of lutein.) Dr. Bhavsar also advises people with AMD to take supplements containing vitamins C and E and beta-carotene, zinc and copper.
Of course, I will keep you posted on new developments that can help us all protect our sight.

Doug, Right. They aren’t really interested in saving the life of a baby, they are only interested in forcing others to practice their way of worship.
The crazy thing is they must think their god is as hypocritical as they are. Once the baby is born the same people who forced the woman to have it would be willing to force her to watch it starve to death, or die from lack of medical care because she couldn’t afford them.
Janet.

Michelle,
What bothered me was that this group was willing to allow a man to choose his fate to buy health insurance and have a chance at life or to not and die if he got too sick.
But this crowd would not all a woman to make the same choice about what to do with here body.
Gloria

Did you get a look at that crowd. Now you know why it took so long for the OTW to get where we are. That crowd was only about it self.
That’s a jury that would send any OTW to his death and sleep better for having done it.

Michelle,
That’s the same group that is telling the government to leave their social security benefits alone. They don’t want to fend for themselves but they want you to.
Hypocrites!
September 13th, 2011 at 7:52 am
They are all about the money. The republican party has convinced them that they can keep more of their money if they aren’t forced to contribute any of it to the welfare of others.
So they feel that since they have good paying jobs screw those who don’t or who can’t work.
These are the fools who believe in no regulation so that a business can grow. If they thought logically it would occur to them that the owner of a business that thought like them would keep all the extra money he earned and not give the worker without the help to negotiate a larger wage or anything else.
Why wouldn’t the greedy employer demand longer hours and less wage in an unregulated work place without bargaining powers?
These fools are arguing against the very forces that gave them their comfortable cushy jobs.
Bobby
September 13th, 2011 at 7:54 am
This group is so greedy they can’t see the need of government to pool everybody’s small contribution to pay for roads, fire and medical help for all.
But they will be the first to ask for government to send other people’s children off to die for their beliefs.

What you were listening to was American white christianity. The god they are praying to is not one that any one I know would recognize.
Notice the deference the media gives to white insanity, greed, indifference, and narcissism.
When they practice it, its called freedom of expression. If and OTW crowd were to act this way they would be called un american, and un civilized.
When this 1/3 of the white race feel economically threatened they will justify throwing their own to the curb so anyone else hasn’t a prayer.
My concern is how many of the second 1/3 of whites were agreeing with them. If the republican legislators force America into financial insolvency, these people will become a society worse than what nazi Germany experienced that gave rise to Hitler.
They will give power to anyone who promises them relief. As you can see they cheered that idiot Ron Paul. The difference between that nut and Adolf is in the degree with which he feels is acceptable to get elected to office.
What this group of candidates will propose to that crowd to get their support means nothing to them. They don’t intend to offer them anything once in office.
Who would care what a crowd like that wanted? They are sociopaths. Mimicking what human beings feel. That is why the religion they practice is so shrill.
They don’t have a clue how to treat a human being. So they follow a book or the word of a person who tells them that he is an expert on that book.
The book can be the bible, or any other reference on how to behave as a human being, it does not matter because they are simply mimicking the behavior of humans.
They are SOCIOPATHS! The one third of the white race that always agrees to what any sane person would get goose bumps hearing a human being agreeing with.
I am certain the latter one third of the white race got scared listening to them cheering the death of a human who miscalculated his vulnerability to mother nature’s fate for him medically.
Imagine for a moment the feelings of those of us who that crowd doesn’t consider true human beings?
Robert
September 13th, 2011 at 8:27 am
Robert, blowhard or not, your warning needs to be taken seriously. I am a white american who would not like to be under the control of this group. Why would any person who they consider not as good as them want to be.
It’s scary what that crowd would condone. I was cheering on Zen Lill’s criticism of your diatribe, but now I see your side of fear. I don’t know what third of the white race you would classify me as but I am scared by what I heard last night.
How could my country have become so indifferent to the plight of others?
Jeff
September 13th, 2011 at 8:29 am
That is a crowd that would see the good in the confederate cause during the civil war. That is a group that could have condoned Germany getting rid of its dead weight.
OTWs and sensible whites had better take serious notice of these people. Germany didn’t and look what happened. I am a jewish American that fears for the safety of any american that this group doesn’t like if their representatives get elected.

GAME OVER? VIDEO GAMES MAKE YOU EAT
Could an hour playing a video game be fattening?
It makes sense that spending half the day on your butt wiggling a joystick instead of walking, riding a bike or playing catch would make you less fit — and research has already shown that the more hours children dedicate to gaming, the more weight they gain.
But now a new study reports that teens who play video games for even just one hour a day eat more than those who spend the same hour just sitting.
So it’s worth asking, is there something especially insidious about the effect of video games on our eating habits?
GAME BOYS
In the randomized, crossover study (meaning that the same subjects tried both protocols), Danish researchers asked 22 healthy, normal-weight, male adolescents (average age nearly 17) to spend one hour sitting at rest during the course of one day.
On another day, they were asked to play video games for one hour. Both activities took place at 10:30 am. At lunch immediately afterward, the boys were served spaghetti — as much as they wanted.
Also, on both days, they underwent a range of tests before, during and after their activity.
Levels of the hormones cortisol (which become elevated in response to stress) and ghrelin (which affects appetite) were measured, as were calories consumed at the lunch and for the rest of the day. Blood levels of glucose and insulin were also measured.
In assessing the results, researchers found that…
The boys expended an average of 21 more calories playing video games than at rest, but they consumed 80 more calories when eating lunch.
They also consumed more calories during the entire day that they played the video game despite the fact that their self-reports of hunger were the same on both occasions — after playing and after resting.
The variances in blood levels of glucose, insulin, cortisol and ghrelin were not enough to be responsible for the increase in appetite.
It’s true that this was a small study, but the results do suggest that playing video games somehow leads to mindless eating, notes Bethany Thayer, MS, RD, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (www.EatRight.org).
The reason for that is yet to be studied. You may also want to read our article in the February 26, 2009 Daily Health News reporting on a different study that found that computer use may lead to changes in glucose and insulin which, in turn, can increase hunger.
NO GAMES?
I’m going to resist being the Grinch who stole video games here — although, as Thayer mentioned to me, it is important to remind kids (adults, too, in fact) that if they’re going to play video games, they should also spend an equal amount of time — at least — doing something physically active.
If you have decided for whatever reasons that your family members will play video games, it goes without saying that it’s in everyone’s interest that the amount of time spent be very limited.
It also seems self-evident that video games that incorporate lots of physical movement, such as virtual tennis, baseball, golf or bowling played on systems such as Nintendo Wii, PlayStation Move and Xbox Kinect, are the best choices.
Personally, I think that video games have their place — they’re fun and they even can stimulate your brain.
For me, though, even when I just want to relax, it isn’t that difficult to find a more interesting way to do it.

What is the reason for humans to be civilized — to live in communities — to give charity — to have a safety net for the less fortunate?
With this attitude of “Not Insured? Let ‘em Die”, humans are showing their inhumanness — their utter selfishness. These are troublesome times indeed. It appears that many do not have a charitable bone in their bodies.
It used to be if a person was traveling by, one would be happy to invite them in and share whatever little they had with them. This was hospitality and common decency — the stuff that makes us different from animals.
When did our basic needs change? We are acting like animals now, thinking “I must get my share, let the other guy die.”
This is mob mentality which means the weak will get hurt or die while the better-off survive. Have we reached that point in our so-called civilization? If we have, then civilization itself is teeter-tottering and this empire will soon fall.
Robert, I quote you now: “What you were listening to was American white Christianity. The god they are praying to is not one that any one I know would recognize.”
I am personally sickened by this response from the audience. It says a lot about the state of affairs of humankind.

I didn’t give a ‘diatribe’ to ‘criticize’ Robert, you people summing up my words make me laugh…where’s everybody when Karen comes on here and judges ym, yeah…you all go quiet…you know damn well if it were me that made that comment you’d all be up in my grill pouncing for one thing or another : ) so yep, there’s another ‘diatribe’ or as I prefer to call it a ‘rant’ and Robert gives excellent ‘rant’ I never said he didn’t, I never said he didn’t make excellent points either, as I said the other day, those who want to find fault (with me) – will, those who get the point – do.

Michelle, we as Guamanians are the victims of this cruel set of people. We are being forced to accept their ownership of us as a people. If they care so little for their own, imagine the lack of concern they have for us.
We are but pawns in their global struggle for the resources of this planet. Now we are in the nuclear cross hairs of both North Korea and China for them.
Guamanians did you know that Guam is the oldest colonized land in the Pacific region?
============================
Hear ye, hear ye! Yes, hear ye, to the people of Guam, especially the indigenous. Did you know that Guam is the oldest colonized land in the Pacific region?
Did you know that the colonizer’s education lacked indigenous education? Did you know that you’re given a certain right named citizenship, but yet you have no rights to laws you must obey?
Let’s now begin this letter with answers for the questions.
First, the oldest colonized island in the Pacific region. Before the arrival of Western civilization, Guam was the center of Pacific voyages for trade and knowledge among those islands and yes, Guam is the oldest inhabited island throughout this same region.
Upon the arrival of the Western civilization by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, that way of life came to an end. They came and claimed the lands as theirs without the consent of the indigenous.
Culture, language and knowledge was virtually wiped out; today a person can obtain a college degree in seeking knowledge to restore and revitalize our descendants’ knowledge!
Western civilization believed their conquest was justified — no regard to human understanding or respect.
In pertaining to Guam, the effects of westernization is the greatest when compared to other claimed islands, whether it be Australia, New Zealand, the Polynesians, Micronesia, etc.,
for Guam allows (itself) to be owned by a foreign country, called the United States of America, which, according to its written documents — the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, etc. — promotes and protects human rights, equality, justice, freedom, etc.
With these comments we now move into parts of the colonization mode of education and for Guam, that education is Spanish, a bit of Japanese and American.
The colonizer’s goal for education accomplishment is to remove beliefs, cultural practices and history of the indigenous and replace it with their own.
Didn’t we learn to read the phrase, “We must colonize these savages?” In reality, who really was the savage?
The foreigner (Spain, United States of America, Japan) or the indigenous (Samoan, Maorian, Tahitian, Belauan, Chuukese and of course Taotaomona, etc.)?
Notice the name Taotaomona instead of Chamorro. The word “taotaomona” is indigenous and Chamorro is Spanish.
How about American education? Take citizenship, a title given to the inhabitants of Guam through the Organic Act of 1950, by Congress.
Yet all one has to do is read the Constitution of the United States of America. It states the rights of its citizens, mainly the right to vote for Congress and House of Representatives.
Does anyone on Guam have that right? In other words, citizenship for Guam is Congress given, not constitutional.
So are you, the people of Guam, true-blue citizens of the United States of America?
How about the Organic Act, which gave citizenship and created the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government?
Did you read and understand that the three branches’ direct supervisor is the Secretary of Interior — not the voters or people of Guam — and states to be obedient to its law.
So one can say that the so-called government of Guam is actually an agency of the Department of Interior. Not a true-blue government.
So why does this injustice, lies and deceit flourish on these islands (Guam, Rota, Saipan, etc.)?
How about education of the indigenous? Isn’t that in its infant stage, according to years gone by, as to its first implementation into the education system on Guam?
Most indigenous when asked the difference as to who or what of their knowledge, little is known. When asked about the Western education, much more is known.
For example, who are Ben Franklin, George Washington, Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, Billy the Kid, Capone, etc., in comparison to Magalahi Gadao, Hilao, Matapang, Puntan, Fuonna, acho atupak, sakman etc.?
More knowledge is given to Western education than to its counterpart, indigenous education.
Hear ye, hear ye, people of Guam, especially the indigenous. What happened? Why is it you allow a foreign government to own you?
Why do you allow their laws to dictate and preside over you? When is foreign (Western) ownership to end on Guam and, of course, our family to the north of Guam?
When are you to become the owners of your motherland? Why do our politicians and courts obey these foreign laws, in which they have no rights to either?
How about the saying, “Show me a true-blue U.S. citizen on Guam and I’ll show you an honest politician!” In other words, there are none!
People of Guam, only you can reclaim your motherland. Stand up against the laws that you must obey without rights.
Take education to the next level — about your own history, beliefs and cultural practices — and you shall believe in yourself to desire reclaiming your motherland.
So no more to foreign ownership. Say yes to independence. Biba to the Republic of the Sinahi Archipelago!
Dankolo na gof ma’ase.

Howie, did you get a really good look at that audience? It was not as you claimed “humans are showing their inhumanness — their utter selfishness.”
It was a representative of that ⅓ of the white race that is psychotically narcissistic.
They are a truly scary group of non-humans. It is the second third of that race we have to worry about. Whatever side they come down on will determine the fate of the USA for decades to come.
I am personally sickened by that response from that audience, but all it does is validate Roberts warnings to us.
The only disagreement I have with you Howie is that I don’t think their actions say as much about the state of the affairs of humankind as it does about those beings.
The fact that they are posing as humans and are presently in control of the humans in America. This is a race of subhumans that rose to control humans because of their cold bloodied ability to wage war without feelings.
Wheres as true humans flinch at genocide, these subhumans don’t. As Robert has pointed out to us over and over there is no place on the planet they have taken control over where they have not committed a genocide of the indigenous people that originated there.
One day the world will have to deal with this group. Let’s hope it is before they have ruined the planet for our use either by killing us in a nuclear war or by destroying the planet with their greed for more of its resources.
Either way they seem to be increasingly comfortable with allowing the humans to see them as they really are. A bunch of sociopaths bent on controlling the human population of this country.

Before I speak my mind on this issue concerning white american legislators going around writing special laws to tell their judges not to consider Shariah laws governing the Muslim fate when considering laws of their state.
Since those same legislators are always decrying the absence of christianity in the schools and courts I see this as just another instance of the “Just-Us Justice” often mentioned on this blog.
This was taken from an article in Huff by Omar Sacirbey
==================================
Many mainstream Muslim leaders and Shariah scholars warn that such bills dangerously create the impression that Muslim Americans are demanding that judges give Shariah precedence over the Constitution, when they are not.
“It’s fearmongering and it’s reckless,” said Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na’im, an Islamic law professor at Emory University in Atlanta. “It’s ridiculous that state legislatures are wasting time on a law that tells judges to do what they are already constitutionally bound to do anyway.”
Michigan and Oklahoma are among more than 20 states that are considering laws to ban Shariah in courtrooms.
Zuhdi Jasser, executive director of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy and one of the statement’s signatories, said the group supported the Michigan law because it only mentioned foreign laws.
The group did not support similar bills in states like Arizona and Oklahoma that singled out Shariah over other religious laws.
“Once you identify one religion, it becomes a quagmire because you have to identify all the religions,” said Jasser, a leading Muslim conservative.
Jasser said he did not oppose Shariah per se — his own marriage contract and will were drafted after he consulted several imams, he said — but opposed the institutionalization of Shariah in U.S. courts.
“We believe the majority of the imams in America who would be issuing decisions under this system are not ready for modernity,” said Jasser.
==============================
I see the actions of the republicans as more race baiting and fear mongering. If the incompetent bastards had spent more time on observing foreigners coming to their country to take the class that would enable them to bomb their twin towers, the incident who never have happened.
It is incredibly telling that even today the ignorant white majority of this country has yet to focus on what stupidity by their law enforcement branches caused them not to take steps to investigate the foreigners who used the information gleamed from those classes to carry out the 9/11 mess.
Is the white race that fucking dumb? Or did the arabs just have that much gall?
I mean if this were a Greek Tragedy, New York would be the new Troy and the Greek army would be the nine hijackers. The wooden horse would be the flight schools they hid in right before the eyes of the great white nobles.
The result was the same; the sacking of Troy, the bombing of New York. How clever we view the Greeks.
But when it happens to the white america it becomes an evil story. NOT to the arab nations of the world. To them it was a triumph of brains over ignorance.
So now who are the FBI if not the Federal Bureau of IDIOTS. The NSA, if not the Numb Skull Agency, DOD if not the Department of Dummies, etc, etc.
The great white hope seems to be that they get someone other that a white person to run the show. Face it!
White America put into office a bunch of racists idiot clowns to serve and protect their country. They did neither!
What they did do was sit by and watch while a few foreigners who in this case just happened to be arabs, entered their country, trained in their country to wreck havoc in their country.
It could have been any racial denomination the result would have been the same.
The twin towers wrecked by men who every federal police agency knew were taking classes to fly but not to land or take off in jumbo jets.
HELLO!!! WHITE BOY!! Was anybody home?
The fault is with the administration charged with protecting the country. There was more than enough money, manpower, and laws in place to do the job.
The only thing missing from that equation was intelligence or even common sense.
The kind that would say if foreigners are taking classes in which to learn ONLY how to fly big jumbo jets not how to take off in them or even land them —–HELLO! There might be cause for concern.
Especially since the previous Administration had alerted the incoming administration of intelligence that warned that mean foreign enemies were making plans to use HELLO! air planes to fly into major buildings and bridges.
Even the people of Troy did not have a warning about wooden horses. Or information that the Greeks were taking classes in Troy on how to build that wooden horse.
But the Bush administration did. Yet, they did not send one man out to interview or check up on a single foreign student taking those classes.
You think it should have occurred to somebody to ask one just one foreign student why he was not taking any classes to land one of those Jumbo Jets? Just how much deference should one white give another?
Yet, white America was not only willing to forgive that administration, they reelected it to a second term. Now they want to return them to that same level of responsibility. Why?
The answer is simple if you were listening last night to that idiotic diatribe of self-centered me, me, me ideas.
They are only interested in a party that will tell them they are better because of the color of their skins. And one that will promise them wealth that they will not have to share with anyone.
I am an American Arab woman. I do not want to be subject to any laws concerning the shariah. It is only arab american men that would even consider any part of that bullshit.
Like, white men, they will accept any religion that gives them unchallagenable, “god said so,” power over women.
But I am too intelligent to believe that this action by republican legislators is meant to help arab women.
It is merely another attempt to convince the electorate that they need republican legislators to protect this country from foreign dangers.
The problem is that we are in this position because the republican party was trusted to protect and their leader sat sitting like a deer caught in a pair of automobile headlights when he was told that his inept administration had allowed a bunch of men with box cutters for weapons to enter this country,
openly take jumbo jet only classes to fly precisely the type of jets they were warned about and use those jets to bring us to 9/11.
Add to that the fact that every federal police agency was being alerted by the teachers of those classes that they were being taken while the actors were taking the classes.
Let’s not leave out the part about many of those taking the classes were on known wanted lists held by those agencies.
If one believed in conspiracies, the only logical conclusion one could arrive at is either that was the most inept administration ever, or they didn’t care to stop the carnage.
Considering that even one arrest would have unraveled the entire plot, it does give one pause to wonder.
So was it ineptitude or was it by design? All we ever hear from Chaney is “we kept the nation safe for the next 7 years.”
That;s like saying we kept the barn locked after we allowed the bull to escape for the next 7 years.
Unless you realize that the white electorate accepted that screwed up explanation. Just how dumb is the white ruling race in this country?
I mean if none of this has occurred to them. I don’t think it takes a very deep rabbit hole to keep secrets from this race.
That kind of ignorance certainly explains why the financial sector takes their money and refuses to use any of if to create jobs? We don’t just need new leadership, we need a smarter ruling class.

Welcome to Sucker Punch, the only blog post that ranks the gaudiest moments on this week’s episode of True Blood.
SPOILERS AHEAD
—-
Oh my God… it’s like this episode was delivered directly to my heart. It’s like Alan Ball and company looked at an X-ray of my desires and said, “Oh, okay. Let’s give Mark everything he wants for the end of the season.” And sure, that’s not what actually happened, but I love this episode no less, no less, no less.
“And When I Die” is a prophetic title since many characters do just that. I’ve been frustrated with the show for weeks because it keeps creating faux-dangerous situations for its lead characters, then rescuing them 15 seconds later, with no one actually dying or (more importantly) changing. It’s been exhausting.
This week, however, real change visits everyone, and in at least a few cases, real death. I’m not saying I’ve been wanting characters to die, per se, but it’s nice to see the writers commit to the end of several arcs and then suggest how the survivors are going to move on. Rather than getting stuck in the rut of “I died, but then I drank your blood/inhabited your body,” we get some honest-to-god evolution.
Granted, I expect at least one of these deaths to be magically reversed next season, but since so many other changes have been set it motion, I’ll be fine with that. If any of these people survive, then they’ll be returning to a different world.
But let’s get back to the episode: The finale for Marnie was pretty wonderful, right? Last week I correctly predicted that Jesus would die in order to save Lafayette, yet I wasn’t disappointed by the results.
By taking Jesus’ magic, Marnie sets herself up for the ultimate revenge. We find her in front of Bill’s house, with Bill and Eric (shirtlessly!) chained together over a burning pyre. Holly, Tara, and Sookie roll up to save them, and at first, it seems like it’s going to be the same old, same old, with Sookie’s faerie hands getting everyone out of a jam.
But that’s not what happens. Holly magicks the spirits of ancestors and friends, and the woods fill with ghosts — including Gran! Eventually, we see Antonia, and she’s the one who snuffs out the fire, saving Eric and Bill. To me, that’s different than having Sookie save them. It teaches us that once and for all, Antonia has relinquished her anger and her desire to be on earth.
She’s found peace, just like Gran. By putting out Marnie’s fire, she’s saying, “The next phase of your existence can begin right now.” This gives Fiona Shaw — whom Gran pulls out of Lafayette’s body — one last, brilliant scene, where she rails against the loss of her new power. She finally realizes, though, that unlike vampires, she can leave the earth and find closure. And so Marnie is given dignity as she departs with Antonia and Gran. She leaves as a different person than she was before.
Before the ghosts leave, Sookie goes to Gran, begging for advice. Gran says there’s nothing wrong with being alone, and then she departs for good.
This is major. For one thing, when we see all these characters go to heaven (or wherever), we know they’re gone. This will let everyone (including us) evolve and move on. Plus, Gran’s advice gives Sookie at excuse to finally jump off of this irritating Bill-Eric pendulum she’s been riding.
That leads to the stirring moment where she breaks up with Eric and Bill at the same time, after they chomp on her wrists for one last feed. Sookie, girl! You’re finally ready to become a more interesting character!
Anna Paquin really rises to this double-breakup scene and the emotional breakdown she has afterward. Homegirl does have an Oscar, after all, and I’m glad to see her get material that showcases her talent.
Of course, the show clarifies that Sookie can now get with Alcide if she chooses, since he luuuuuvs her. It would be nice to see her just be single for a while, and I’m guessing that will happen.
Things will be complicated with Alcide, since Sookie ends the episode shooting Debbie in the head with a shotgun… just seconds after Debbie tries to shoot Sookie and accidentally hits Tara in the head.
WHOA! I suspect Tara’s death won’t take, but then again, Debbie’s bullet visibly takes off Tara’s skull.
If Tara’s really dead, it might be for the best, since she’s been stagnant since season one, and again… that would be some serious change in the world of the show.
But honestly, the thought of losing Tara makes me realize how much I like her, so I kind of hope they find a way to bring her back. But if they don’t, I tip my hat to the series. I didn’t think it had the guts to spill such a major character’s guts.
That brings me back to Jesus, Joy of Lafayette’s Desiring. Though his death is predictable, it’s beautifully handled, with Kevin Alejandro and Nelsan Ellis giving typically wonderful performances as Jesus appears to Lafayette for a ghostly goodbye.
How will Lafayette react when he finds out his cousin is also dead? I want to jump in the screen and help him myself.
Speaking of empathy: The brilliant acting and writing continue in Pam and Ginger’s little scene in Fangtasia. Pam gets to wink at the show’s own silliness when she complains that Sookie, with her “stupid name” and “magic faerie vagina,” can’t be more important than her own hundred-year history with Eric.
She allows Ginger to hug her as she cries, and it’s reminiscent of last season, when Eric’s near-death at the hands of Russell Edgington also made her break down. She’s a tough cookie, that Pam, but she can be lovely.
Let me note that Ginger spends this entire scene dressed like a naughty nurse. The episode takes place on Halloween, which not only justifies the arrival of so many dead souls, but also gives many heartfelt scenes a wickedly campy edge, since they play out while characters are dressed like creatures of the night.
My favorite joke of the episode comes when Arlene’s daughter proudly announces that she’s dressed like one of the girls from Teen Mom 2. Pray it’s not a vision of things to come, Arlene.
And speaking of that, Arlene, dressed as a zombie, finally gets that dreaded visit from the ghost of Rene. However, he’s not here to hurt her. Here’s here to warn her that Terry is about to unleash some awfully dark secrets about his past.
Surely, that’s got something to do with the old military buddy who wanders into Merlotte’s. Terry thought the guy was dead, and knowing this show, he’s a reanimated corpse or something. Look for Weekend At Terry’s to be a running theme next year.
Meanwhile, to win the prize for sexiest moment of the week, the shirtless-vampires-chained-together scene has to compete with the Jason-naked-for-most-of-the-episode scenes. And Jason is super naked.
Like, just a little pillow on his tackle box, y’all. Meanwhile, he’s also having a revelatory conversation with Jessica, who is firmly embracing her vampire self and telling Jason that she just wants to sleep with him.
She’s not even willing to drink his blood, since that’s too intimate. (She is willing to act like a hooker, if that’s what he wants, but that’s just because she misinterprets something he says.
It’s a lovely touch, because her desire to please reminds us that Jessica’s not quite comfortable in her burgeoning role as a hardcore vampire.)
Jessica jokes that Jason shouldn’t care about being used for sex, but that sounds too much like Hoyt’s cruel words. When Jason reveals that he’s sleeping with Jessica, Hoyt beats him up while screaming that Jason is missing the part that lets people love.
When Jason mentions this to Jessica, she sweetly (and genuinely) insists it isn’t the case, but it’s possible Jason will do some soul searching next year. Jason’s never been shallow, of course: He fell in love with Amy, tried to find redemption at the Fellowship of the Sun, and took care of all those Hotshotters. But this situation with Jessica may make him even more mature. Or it may just be yet another brief distraction from Jason’s typical horndog ways.
And speaking of the Fellowship of the Sun… after Jessica leaves, Reverend Steve Newlin shows up at Jason’s door. There’s a moment where Steve is clearly delighted to see that Jason’s naked — I knew it! — but it quickly gives way to Steve’s fangs. Yep! The anti-vampire preacher is now a fanger.
I like this revelation because it suggests the big villain from next season is going to be a character we already know.
This show’s universe is already enormous, and I’d rather re-explore older characters than get to know a new set of bad guys.
To that end, I’m thrilled to learn that Russell Edgington has broken out of that cement trap. Who busted him loose?
Where will he go? I can’t wait to find out, since Russell is my all-time favorite character on this show.
Moving on: A quick hello to Andy and Holly, who are promising to make a cute couple next year, and to Sam, who is getting stalked by a new werewolf as he continues courting Luna. Who could it be?
You know who it won’t be? Nan Flanagan, because my girl pushes Eric and Bill too far this time. She bursts into Bill’s office, saying she’s resigned/been fired from all the vampire organizations, and she’s expecting Eric and Bill to follow her.
But she makes the mistake of threatening Sookie’s life if they don’t… and saying the boys are Sookie’s puppy dogs. Like that, Eric kills all of Nan’s bodyguards while Bill stakes Nan herself. Blood-spattered and standing over the gooey pile of her remains, Bill and Eric become a fearsome pair.
Where will their partnership lead? These are exciting questions, right? Granted, last season’s exciting questions led to rather ponderous answers about Hotshot and Mavis and such, but my hope has been renewed.
As for the Sucker Punch of the week? I’m giving the runner-up slot to Steve Newlin’s fangs and first place to the sudden, bloody arrival of the Eric-Bill alliance. I am excited to see where both of those moments take us next year.
That’s it for season 4! As always, thank you so much for joining me on this ride. Your comments and enthusiasm make this all worthwhile.

Farah,
Things would get much worse with “a smarter ruling class”. Be careful what you ask for, because you get it.
What the world needs is for the ignorant sheople masses to venture into the rabbit hole, where so many fear to go. The hide behind religion. The elite could give two shits about what the other 99 1/2% know or care about. What the ignorant masses don’t understand is that the 1/2%(the owners of The FED, The IMF, The Basel Group, The Bilderbergs, etc.) think the lesser 99 1/2% of the global populace are simply pawns to their game of life. Their families have been creating the world for over 400 years into what we experience to date.
Their manipulation of the global currencies, and subsequent control of countries indebted to The Fed or The IMF is all they are concerned about. Nothing else. Politicians don’t tell them anything. Politicians reply “ok” or they eventually are ousted, assassinated, or will not be re-elected. The United States, as well.
Libya was orchestrated in order for these rich families to get their finances into Libya. This nation had been a stalwart of the opposition to accepting funds from these global financial banksters. Cuba, Iran, N. Korea are others that are not in-debted, or controlled…yet.

So Doug, if I agree with your assessment. What is your plan of acton?
September 13th, 2011 at 6:19 pm
We lost a Planned Parent Hood Clinic in Redwood city because the same hypocrites that think it is okay to allow a person already living to die. But will force medical care on a woman who wants to have an abortion to force her to give birth.
The incredible hypocrisy of these people is they don’t want government to give medical care to the child once they have forced the woman to give birth.
These are sick people.

Yup, you’ve been in the rabbit hole pretty deep, Doug Main Dude…and we get convinced (or do we) that the leaders of those countries are ‘loose canons’ that NEED to be controlled. The only people wanting to truly control any of them is that 1/2%, and they couldn’t care less what the 99 1/2% think/feel/ about any of it, nor do they care what color or gender they are …their planning and ‘hiding’ right out in the open is ingenious.
…and thank you, Teresa, a little back up here and there is much appreciated : ) I’m not needy but I take some licks here…

Farah,
Ask me that question when you take the time to really fathom the gravity of truth that exists. When you reach that point, ask me that again. Otherwise, I will be wasting my time. Move deeper into the hole, get a little dirty, find some little treasures and we can actually work with something. or the patterned and trained response will come from you carefully given to you and orchestrated by that same 1/2%.
If you think I am playing a game and blowing steam, I simply rest my case.
If you need more clarification, you might ask Anonz, whom you might be more inclined to believe, for some reason.

Hafa adai
This is for those of you who should know that the white boy is the only vermin Guam has to deal with check this out.
______________________________________
You probably have it in your cupboard, or maybe in the carport. We keep ours under the sink.
They come disguised in colorful bottles with pretty labels. They claim to keep your house clean and your life healthy.
These products also contain dangerous chemicals designed to kill things, specifically bacteria, viruses or fungi.
Most households and businesses in Guam have, and use, pesticides frequently. Pesticides are actually part of the reason we choose to use toilet bowl cleaner, germ killer and bleach to start with. Cleaning includes disinfecting the kitchen counter. Scrubbing the bathroom includes sanitizing things. Stopping mold from growing on the windowsill includes stopping the growth of fungi.
Pesticides do the trick.
Any product that is designed to prevent, repel or mitigate a pest is considered a pesticide. The law identifies many different pests, including bacteria, fungi, viruses or microbes.
Recently Guam updated the law, rules and regulations that govern how pesticides are used. These rules are meant to not only protect the environment, but the people using these products. For example, any worker using a product with a pesticide in it must be trained in using the chemical properly.
Companies with employees using these types of sanitizers, disinfectants and sterilizers are required to ensure their employees are trained and certified to use the products.
This type of training is critical.
Improper exposure to a dangerous chemical can happen easily and quickly. And although some of the effects are chronic and take a long time to develop, other side effects can be instantaneous. Rash, vomiting, loss of consciousness and breathing problems all can be immediate side effects of improper use of a chemical cleaner.
To help companies and employees come into compliance with the updated law and use pesticides safely, the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association and the Guam Environmental Protection Agency teamed up to provide two sets of training. The first training was for those who want to be able to train employees in proper use. The second set of training was a four-hour basic course for employees actually using the chemicals.
These training sessions are a good example of the business and public sector working together to follow a law meant to protect people and the environment.
This type of partnership will help pesticides be a helpful tool, instead of a harmful one.
Follow their lead. Learn about the chemicals under your sink and how to use them properly. Having a clean house isn’t worth getting hurt.

The point is learn to handle the pesticide you use on the island to rid yourself of the pests. Don’t destroy the island to rid yourself of the pests.

Doug, no insult intended. But I put my money on Anonz. You and Zen Lill are not competent to play in his league. If he wanted you two out of his way you’d be dead already.
But the way I see it is you two are part of his agenda. You may not know it but you are.

Farah,
A good first start would be to motivate the people to get behind Obama’s effort to get people back to work.
People with food in their bellies are more inclined to risk a venture in to those “rabbit holes” that hold such fascination for the Dougs and Zen Lills.
If you missed his plan here it is with the republican refusal to tax the rich to pay for it.
=====================
Obama unveiled his jobs bill to cut payroll taxes for workers and businesses, spur employers to hire the jobless, and spend billions on transportation, schools and teachers—including 275-million for schools and teachers in the territories, plus cover-over funds for the tax breaks.
But the White House asked Congress to pay for the bill with new limits on itemized deductions for high-earning individuals and families.
And, by ending tax breaks for big oil and corporate jets, while hiking the new super committee deficit reduction target.
Republicans, led by House Speaker John Boehner, swiftly rejected the ‘pay-fors.’
Boehner Spokesman Michael Steel told the Washington Post, “We remain eager to work together on ways to support job growth…but this proposal doesn’t seem to be offered in that bipartisan spirit.”
House Republicans scoffed at Obama’s call to fund his jobs plan by raising taxes and said anything that looks like the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that brought tens of millions to the islands, won’t fly either.
So, more than $45-billion for rehabilitating schools and abandoned homes is essentially ‘dead on arrival.’
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told reporters here, “I don’t believe members are going to be interested in pursuing that.” Adding, “there are perhaps laudable goals behind all the proposals, but the fact is, we don’t have the money…we have to prioritize. And right now, it’s about getting people back to work.”
Both the CNMI’s Greg ‘Kilili’ Sablan and Guam’s Madeleine Bordallo have issued statements lauding the President’s efforts, while acknowledging they are just proposals.
==================
It seems to me this is a start. Unless Doug has a more viable plan. I say we start small and get the people in a position to fight the big battle.
I may not be an Anonz but I know that an army has to be fed and constantly supplied to wage a war. So unless you want to use ESP to fight the “rabbit hole” folks, you had better put together an army to help you.
Show the people some success in helping them survive and you will gain their support and allegiance.
As for Anonz, Zen Lill you are his squeeze so you get a pass. But you Doug don’t seem to know that Anonz is considered a saint to most of the population of this world.
They may not be in that 1/2 % but they have his back. That makes him a force to deal with.

Kenneth,
Perhaps you are right, and my plan, perhaps as guided by Anonz, was to have Robert come and respond with his wonderful and prolific thought out responses, worked just fine.
Seems to work just fine…

Do You Use Reusable Shopping Bags? What You Must Know…
Charles P. Gerba, PhD
Bacteria thrive in reusable shopping bags. Half of the reusable bags in a recent study had bacterial growth, and 12% contained E.coli bacteria, which can cause severe intestinal illness.
Self-defense: Wash the bags with soap and water (by hand or in a washing machine).
Do not carry raw foods, such as meats and produce, in reusable bags.
Do not leave the empty bags in a warm car—bacterial counts rise significantly in just two hours.
Personal interviewed Charles P. Gerba, PhD, professor, department of soil, water and environmental science, University of Arizona, Tucson, and leader of a study of bacteria in reusable shopping bags.

Robert, of course I know that Anonz is a saint to most of the population of the world and that they’ve got his back, so do I – always. And I am totally down with being his squeeze even if that means I don’t get squeezed very often. A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do, and this man is not out pushing some low level agenda, he’s out delivering.
I agree wholeheartedly, get people back to work/food in their bellies, it’s a good start, I’ll do some working and some rabbit hole-ing.
Anonz, if you (or your desk) would like to add anything, we’re here (and this is certainly wishful thinking, that the man will respond).
Luv, Zen Lill

ZL is Anonz’s squeeze? God help us all. I use to have respect for him but she’s a ditz. I can’t read the crap here anymore.

Bye Sonja!
September 14th, 2011 at 6:56 am
Actually, Sonja, you should stick around, you may learn to be less judgmental (and more Zen no matter what others do) – and you shouldn’t lose respect for one person just bc you think not-so-highly of someone else….and the other aside, he hasn’t commented here in months, so who knows, he could be married to someone new and I’d wish him the best if that were the case. – ZL
September 14th, 2011 at 7:14 am
Just noticing, here and in real life – Women who are of the jealous ilk usually call me a ‘ditz’ or so ‘blond’ – it’s getting really boring and is sooooo unimaginative, is that the best you can do, Sonja, seriously?
