The 99% Solution
Posted by Michelle Moquin on October 7th, 2011
Good morning!
I am digging that this country is getting riled up…inspired that we the people, the 99 percenters, are getting verbal, going viral, and taking it to the streets…and that the protesting is peaceful…unlike the police officers.
Occupy Wall Street: Video Allegedly Shows NYPD Officer Striking Protesters With Baton (Photos)
Just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, reportedly at the corner of Broadway and Wall Street, a New York Police Department officer appeared to turn on a throng of activists with the Occupy Wall Street movement, hitting them with a baton. A video posted hours later to YouTube shows the officer wielding the baton with two hands — like a baseball bat — as he swings at and strikes the demonstrators. At one point, a woman can be heard shrieking in the background.
The white-shirt cop, most likely a supervisor, had stood next to at least a half-dozen other officers, including other department brass. The video shows the officer appearing to nudge a spectator out of the way, back up and raise his baton. He then gets off three swings before the crowd appears to surge toward him — digital cameras and video recorders held high.
This may be the first of many videos documenting clashes between the police and Occupy Wall Street. At the end of the video a few in the crowd chant: “The whole world is watching! The whole world is watching!” (UPDATE: New video emerges. May be the most complete document of last night’s incident. See second video below.)
It is unclear from the video what provoked the officer’s actions, but HuffPost’s Matt Sledge, who was at the scene, reports the baton swinging took place after a handful of people had been arrested for attempting to cross a police barricade.
When reached for comment, a New York Police Department spokesman who refused to be identified said he had heard about the video but had not seen it and therefore could not comment.
Throughout the night, activists had reported via Twitter that the police had resorted to using pepper spray and had made some arrests. A spokesperson for Occupy Wall Street later reported some 20 arrests in total.
Fox 5, the local affiliate in New York, reported that police officers had struck the station’s journalists with batons and doused them with pepper spray:
Officers swatted protesters with batons and sprayed them with mace, according to video from the scene. Fox 5 photographer Roy Isen was hit in the eyes by mace, and Fox 5 reporter Dick Brennan was hit by what he believes was an officer’s baton. Both were all right and continued to cover the protests and arrests.
In another video posted to YouTube, an officer says: “My little nightstick’s gonna get a workout tonight.”

Three weeks into the “Occupy Wall Street” protests, the disorganized mob of shiftless protesters is receiving fresh shock troops from Big Labor. An article at Business Insider lists the new arrivals: “United NY, SEIU 1199, United Federation of Teachers, Working Families Party, and MoveOn.org. The Transit Workers and AFL-CIO are also expected to participate.”
The protesters romantically bill themselves as anarchists, which has attracted some lovestruck admirers from the dreary conventional Left. On the contrary, those union thugs are pouring into Wall Street because they understand that anarchy is the handmaiden of tyranny. Anarchist movements are never followed by increased liberty.
The first wave of OWS protesters will hardly be unwilling victims of the organized hard-Left takeover. They’ve been on the same page all along. They’ve got a website, and they eventually got around to posting a long manifesto of demands required to “end the occupation.” All of these demands require the exercise of compulsive government force on a massive scale.
From “free” education and health care, to guaranteed “living wages,” the forced abandonment of fossil fuels, and the forgiveness of all debt on a planetary scale, these demands would require the forcible seizure of private property, and the compulsion of “desirable” behavior by an immense government of nearly limitless power. Far from agitating for any species of liberty, even the kind envisioned by the hopelessly lazy and disaffected, these protesters are demanding the final dissolution of economic liberty.
Occupy Wall Street sounds stupid and crazy , but there are people like the AFL-CIO, and the degenerate hard-left Democrat Party, who have plenty of uses for stupid and crazy foot soldiers, after “liberal thinkers” and helpful media allies have cleaned them up a bit. — John Hayward

Up to 90% Off on Restaurant Meals, Movie Tickets, Haircuts, More
Gregory Karp
Bargain hunters already know that the Internet is a great place to find low prices on merchandise. Now a rapidly growing array of Web sites is offering savings of 50% to 90% on services and experiences, such as restaurant meals, spa visits, carpet cleaning, dry cleaning, movie and theater tickets, haircuts, gym memberships, yoga classes and dance lessons.
These “local deal” or “deal-of-the-day” sites, such as Groupon.com and Restaurant.com, negotiate special group rates with area eateries and service providers, then sell vouchers to the public that work much like gift certificates—except that you buy them at steep discounts to their face value.
Local businesses agree to offer these deep discounts to attract large numbers of new customers who, they hope, will come back and pay full price in the future.
Examples: A $25 voucher to a local restaurant might cost $10 or even $2… a voucher good for a series of yoga classes that normally would cost $250 might cost as little as $25.
Consumers use a credit card to pay online for the voucher, print the voucher at home, then bring it to the local business to redeem it.
With many of these sites, each deal is available for just one day. The vouchers need not be used that same day, however—most don’t expire for months.
On some sites, deals take effect only if a certain number of users purchase the voucher. If not, the deal is voided and no one is charged.
The widest range of offers is available to those who live in or near major cities, but some of these Web sites serve smaller cities and suburban regions, too, and others plan to soon expand into them.
Helpful: You also might want to sign up for discounts in a city that you plan to visit.
Here’s a look at the sites worth trying, how they work and how to sidestep the traps that can turn seemingly great deals into money losers…
WHERE TO FIND DISCOUNTS
Among the sites that offer the most attractive deals and cover the largest number of regions…
Groupon.com is the largest of these sites, available in more than 500 local areas worldwide. Sign up to receive daily deal e-mails.
Most Groupon.com deals offer 50% to 90% off at a restaurant or spa or for some leisure activity. Each deal is available for just one day, and the offers take effect only if a predetermined minimum number of users sign up.
If not enough people sign up, your credit card is not charged. Recent example: $22 for two pottery classes that usually cost $45.
LivingSocial.com is in 182 areas worldwide and works much the same way as Groupon.com. Discounts typically are 50% to 90%… restaurants, spas and theaters are among the businesses most often featured… and each deal is available for purchase for just one day.
Unlike with Groupon, however, there’s no sign-up tipping point—if you want to purchase a voucher, you can, regardless of how many other LivingSocial users sign up.
And LivingSocial provides an added savings twist. If you can convince three other people to purchase the same deal, you will receive your voucher for free.
Recent example: $9 for two movie tickets that usually cost $20 or more.
BuyWithMe.com is not yet in as many regions as Groupon or LivingSocial, but each of its deals is available for seven days, not just one—so there is far less pressure for you to make a quick decision.
Recent example: $35 for hair styling at a salon that normally charges $75.
Restaurant.com offers discounted vouchers for more than 18,000 restaurants nationwide. Enter your zip code, and Restaurant.com will locate any offers in your area.
Unlike the previously listed sites, Restaurant.com offers typically are available for extended periods, not just a single day or week.
Many Restaurant.com vouchers impose restrictions on how and which days of the week they can be used, so read the fine print.
The site often e-mails offers of extra discounts off its usual discounts to people who register. Recent examples: Many local restaurants offer $25 vouchers for $10 or less… or $100 vouchers for $40 or less through Restaurant.com.
Those fees may be discounted by an extra 80% from time to time, so you actually can pay just $2 for a $25 meal.
AGGREGATOR SITES HELP
There are other, smaller sites that offer attractive deals in certain areas, and new local deals sites debut all the time.
Rather than trying to monitor them all, consider using a “deals aggregator” site, which monitors the individual sites and consolidates their current offers into a single list or map.
Examples of aggregator sites: DealNews.com (click the “Local” tab)… DealRadar.com… 8Coupons.com… and Yipit.com.
Not all aggregator sites cover every geographic area or every deal site, and each reports local deals in a different fashion.
Try several before settling on the one that does the best job helping you find deals that you like. Aggregator sites typically feature only short-term deals, not those available for extended periods, such as the ones offered by Restaurant.com.
BEWARE DRAWBACKS
A big discount does not necessarily mean that something is a great deal.
If you’re not familiar with the business that is offering the discount, look for reviews from other customers on sites such as Yelp.com or CitySearch.com — or Chowhound.com just for restaurants — or ask friends their opinions.
Other issues that can make a seemingly great deal a bad money move…
Small businesses can be overwhelmed when a flood of customers signs up for these discounts, causing a temporary decline in quality.
It makes some sense to wait a week or two for the crowds to diminish before redeeming a voucher offered by a smaller business.
Unused vouchers are money wasted. Keep your vouchers well-organized, and note their expiration dates on your calendar.
Do not buy a voucher just because it seems like too good of a deal to pass up—buy it only if you are certain that you will use it.
Helpful: You may be able to resell your voucher—if you realize that you won’t use it—on Lifesta.com, a daily deals marketplace site.
A voucher generally is transferable unless it specifically says otherwise.
There is no cost to post a voucher for sale, but Lifesta takes 99 cents plus 8% of the sale price if you find a buyer. It also is a good place to buy daily deals that you missed when they initially were offered.
You often cannot redeem vouchers the same day. Most sites won’t let you print out your voucher until a certain number of people sign up for it or until the day after it is purchased. Exception: Restaurant.com vouchers generally can be printed and used the same day.
There can be important caveats hidden in the small print. Some vouchers cannot be used on the most popular days of the week.
Others have high minimum-purchase requirements or other rules. Example: A restaurant voucher might be valid only Monday through Thursday.
Helpful: If there is a problem with any of the discounts, contact the specific Web site by e-mail or toll-free number.

The police are lemmings and complacent, and the “brainwashed” persons that Herman Cain keeps talking about. These people in the streets are marching for workers rights, pensions, retirement plans, appropriate taxation, against Lobbyists, against non-regulated capitalism, against corporatocracy, for campaign finance reform, and much more. They are fed up with the lies and corruption of Washington and he bedfellows of Wall Street. The police receive their paychecks, benefits, and retirement funds from the tax dollars that these people are overburdened to paying. The batons fly and the arrests continue while the fraud, corruption, and greed watch out the window with signs that say, “We are the 1%”.
I’m not a kid, I’m not an unemployed college student, I’m not trying to pit Americans against other Americans as Eric Cantor continues to sat. I’m an American that has read, understands, and will march, protest and fight for the words and rights as outlined in the Constitution for the people(something that most Congresspersons or Senators fail to do). Oh, and corporations are NOT people! For the true change that the people are searching for, corporate lobbying in Washington must end, term limits must be instilled to both houses, and the country must END The FED and stop paying interest on their own currency.

Who are the people who read the kind of disinformation that “Human Events” puts out?
The way they disparage the opposition, “disorganized mob of shiftless protesters?” That is just wrong.
One can see why the republicans feel they do not have to compromise.

There are many people who read this blog that are either Democrat or Republican who do NOT have a net worth of $10 Billion. If you fall into this category, then this video pertains to you. It’s quite simple really. And, if you live in a home to which you have a loan balance, you work an hourly wage or a contracted wage of under $200K/year, rest assured your odds of EVER being a part of the $10B club is far to remote to calculate and even place into thought, so this video pertains to you.

Michelle, I have finally recovered from the memories I have suffered. I was one of the female victims from Kosovo.
I was among several hundreds of albanian women that were captured by the serbian army. We were transferred to a prison camped and raped every day by 10 or more men every day. We were not allowed to wear clothes so that we would be available at their whim.
They kept us there until we became pregnant and then they forced us to march back to an area controlled by our people. They meant to humiliate us and our race.
I witnessed the death of countless numbers of women. Little girls that were too young to become pregnant were raped and shot in front of us or hanged or impaled and hung by their vaginas or disemboweled via their rectums.
We lived in terror for months. It was so horrendous it has taken me all this time to see the world in a way that allows me to trust a man.
The male child that I had I drowned in a toilet among the cheers of my fellow villagers. Most of them had done the same with the babies they were forced to conceive. Some stomped their children to death without cutting the chords immediately after giving birth to the filth.
I cut my cord and I still wear it as a necklace to remind me to kill any serbian male I meet. I live in the US and there are so many Serbian males here. It is as if the whites here love that kind of racist slime.
I use my beauty to entrap and then kill the bastards. Thank god that this is a beautiful wide open country with plenty of room to bury the guilty.
My count is 39. I write you because you empower me to understand that women don’t have to continue to be victims. We can get revenge.
I will have my pound of flesh until they catch me or one of my intended victims kills me. Life means nothing to me. I live to avenge my sisters and their children.
I love you Michelle

I think we have our field now. After much hand-wringing, it is now time to carefully examine the candidates in the field and see who the best one is to go after Barack Obama.
Your opinion and my opinion may be different. But, what cannot be different is the knowledge that any one of the candidates would still be better than Barack Obama. There is a real fight in the country for freedom and liberty against ever creeping government socialism.
Sarah Palin is not going to run. Chris Christie is not going to run. In just a few short weeks the ballot access rules will kick in and deny any new comers access to the ballots of the early primary voting states.
Now is our time for choosing. The candidates still have a series of debates to work their way through. Some will stumble and, as we have seen, some may surge forward somewhat unexpectedly. They are going to fight each other, but I hope along the way they will turn the fight toward Barack Obama.
The candidates have been so fixated on each other, they’ve largely given Barack Obama a pass. He doesn’t need to be given a free pass any longer. The fight is with him, not with each other. The person who shows the most optimism and the most willingness to engage Barack Obama will, I think, be the nominee.

Jenna, it is not only the serb men that are abominable. Our albanian men are not much better. They abandoned us once we were raped. I was 12 when I was raped for two years never missing a day. Even when I got my period when I was 13 my attackers continued to raped me 10 20 and 30 or more times a day.
They did so many horrible things to me that I began to think that life was always that way for me. I was driven out 6 months pregnant at 14.
My people received me with anger as if it was my fault for being raped until I was pregnant. The women were bad but the men, my brothers father and other male relatives treated me like I was a whore.
They took my baby and bashed her head against the walls inside the barn she was born in. The blood and brains stuck to me long after I had washed them off.
I left to for England where I make my home today. Until I read your post Jenna I thought I had put it behind me.
How I wish I had your strength. I would kill them all! I wish you all the success. If you need help, and feel that you can teach this coward to kill, I would do your bidding for the pleasure of your company.
