So…Obama’s Jobs Bill has the support of independent economists. They said it would grow the economy significantly and put people back to work. These are not Obama’s words; they are the words of these independent economists. No other jobs plan has that kind of support from economists. No plan from Congress. No plan from anybody. It is a jobs bill with the kind of proposals that democrats and republicans have traditionally supported. A bill that is entirely paid for.

I know I am repeating what Obama is saying, but I think it is worth repeating.

So…sounds good right? Yesterday was the day that we found out where every Senator stands on this job bill. So…did the Senate do something? Did they pass the bill? They did something alright. But in case you haven’t heard,  the Senate didn’t pass Obama’s Jobs Bill.  Surprised? I was HOPEful, but no, I am not surprised.

Obama Jobs Plan Voted Down By Senate

WASHINGTON — The Senate rejected President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs bill on Tuesday night, a move that was expected and clears the way for the White House to refocus on pressuring Congress to pass smaller pieces of the package.

The Senate voted 51 to 48 on a procedural motion to begin debate on the bill. Despite falling short of the required 60 votes, Senate Democratic leaders were at least able to save Obama face by securing a simple majority of Democratic support.

Two Democrats, Sens. Ben Nelson (Neb.) and Jon Tester (Mont.), sided with Republicans in opposing the motion. A handful of other Democrats who had concerns with the bill, including Sens. Jim Webb (Va.) and Joe Manchin (W.Va.), voted to proceed to debate but with the understanding that they would have voted against the bill itself.

“The things I support in this bill are outweighed by the things I can’t support,” Tester said in a statement after the vote. “It is an expensive, temporary fix to a problem that needs a big, long-term solution.”

Obama’s bill was a mix of tax cuts and new spending aimed at spurring job creation in the short term. It included $270 billion in payroll tax cuts and other tax relief, along with $175 billion in new spending on roads, school repairs and other infrastructure projects, as well as an extension of unemployment benefits and aid to local governments to prevent impending teacher and police layoffs.

During floor remarks before the vote, Webb said he couldn’t support the bill because of its proposal to offset costs by raising taxes on the wealthy. The bill includes a 5.6 percent surtax on households earning more than $1 million as a way to pay for the package. Obama’s bill originally proposed raising taxes on people with an annual salary of $200,000, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) upped the income level to bring reluctant Democrats on board with the offset.

Webb said the real problem is that the bill would tax people’s ordinary income versus capital gains, where he said most wealthy people make their money.

“The present proposal looks good at first glance, it sounds good on a TV bite, but in all respect to the people who put it forward, I do not believe it’s smart policy,” Webb said. “It does not go where the real economic division lies in our country.”

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), who typically votes with Democrats, called Obama’s proposal “a kind of mini-stimulus” that he said is less likely to give the economy a jolt than the $787 billion stimulus package passed in 2009.

“To me, what we’ve got to do is restore confidence of people in the business sector to invest. That’s what’s missing in our economy,” Lieberman said. “I know [Obama's jobs bill] has been put forward with good intentions, but I don’t think it does the job.”

The president has been campaigning around the country for weeks in an effort to sell the public on the need for Congress to pass his jobs bill. But given the political reality that neither the House nor the Senate ever had the votes to pass it, he has also less enthusiastically been endorsing the idea of lawmakers acting on smaller pieces of it.

“Tonight, a majority of United States Senators voted to advance the American Jobs Act,” Obama said in a statement after the Senate vote. “But even though this bill contains the kind of proposals Republicans have supported in the past, their party obstructed the Senate from moving forward on this jobs bill.”

“We will now work with Senator Reid to make sure that the individual proposals in this jobs bill get a vote as soon as possible.”

Moving forward, the political calculus by the White House is clear: press for votes on pieces of the bill with strong appeal to the middle class, such as tax cuts for small businesses and aid to keep teachers and police officers on the job. As the 2012 election comes into focus, the White House is prepared to tar anyone who opposes those provisions as a defender of tax breaks for millionaires.

“With each vote, Members of Congress can either explain to their constituents why they’re against common-sense, bipartisan proposals to create jobs, or they can listen to the overwhelming majority of American people who are crying out for action,” Obama said.

House Republican leaders, who have already said they won’t bring up Obama’s plan for a vote, welcomed the bill’s failure as a sign that bipartisan negotiations on pieces of the package can now begin in earnest.

“The Senate’s rejection of the President’s jobs bill proves once and for all that there isn’t sufficient support on either side of the aisle for his all-or-nothing approach,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said in a statement. “With millions of people out of work, I hope that the President will put the brakes on his campaign-style speeches and work with Congress on areas where there is bipartisan support to spur economic growth and get people back to work.”

“Now it’s time for both parties to work together and find common ground on removing government barriers to private-sector job growth,” Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement.

House Democratic leaders accused Republicans of standing in the way of job creation.

“Republicans – in the House and Senate – continue to delay and block action on this critical measure, refusing to address Americans’ top priority: jobs,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement.

Liberal groups also had harsh words for the bill’s detractors.

Senators who voted against the motion to begin debate on the bill “should be ashamed of themselves,” said Wade Henderson, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.

“It’s long past time for Congress to take the steps necessary to get our economy working by helping to create the good paying jobs that Americans depend on to support their families and their communities,” Henderson said in a statement. “The Senate had a chance to do so today, and it failed miserably.”

Mary Kay Henry, president of the Service Employees International Union, said those senators “turned their backs” on more than 14 million unemployed Americans. “At a time when so many American families are hurting, it is truly unconscionable to play politics with their lives and our economy,” she said in a statement. “There is no excuse for blocking this bill.”

For now, however, the White House and Senate Democratic leaders are already moving on to Plan B: mapping out which pieces of the bill to break out and hold individual votes on. A Senate Democratic aide told The Huffington Post to expect those votes to take shape during the week of Oct. 24.

Readers: I agree, there is no excuse for blocking this bill. Did your Senator pass the Jobs bill? We know the republicans are still the party of no,  - no surprise there – their obstructionism continues. But two dems sided with the republicans: Sens. Ben Nelson (Neb.) and Jon Tester (Mont.).  No doubt, blue dog dems. If you’re from these two states, these are two names to remember when re-election comes around.

    Overcome the Fear of Change
The primitive part of your brain fears change—here’s how to trick it
    Robert Maurer, PhD
David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California

At the beginning of each year, millions of Americans resolve to start exercising every day… eliminate their credit card debt… learn to meditate… or make some other grand promise to themselves.

Most of these resolutions fail. The problem isn’t lack of willpower — it’s that the human brain resists big, bold changes.

Contemplating big changes triggers feelings of fear, and that fear prods the amygdala — the primitive fight-or-flight part of the brain — into action.

The amygdala does not weigh the benefits of bold changes or consider how these changes could be accomplished –

it simply interprets our fear as evidence that we face danger and encourages us to either run away or resist.

If we can prevent the amygdala from taking charge, we greatly improve our odds of implementing major changes. The best way to do this is in small, incremental steps…

    TINY STEPS

Small steps feel insignificant and carry little risk of catastrophic failure, so we don’t feel fear… the amygdala does not sense danger… and our fight-or-flight response is not triggered.

Taking small, incremental steps rather than bold leaps also helps train the brain to view change as normal.

Major changes feel unnatural and difficult in part because they’re uncommon.

Make incremental changes each day, and change feels comfortable.

In some instances, small steps might be all that’s needed. We tend to think that important changes require bold action, but seemingly minor changes can have a greater-than-expected impact.

Here’s how to put the power of small steps to work…
    TO START EXERCISING

Your mind and your body are likely to rebel if you shift quickly from inactivity to a rigorous exercise program. And you don’t need to.

The Mayo Clinic studied thin and overweight people. They found that thin, fit people often did not go to the gym.

They simply moved more during the day — they took stairs, paced in their offices, etc. This resulted in burning 300 to 350 calories per day more than sedentary people — which resulted in a 30-to-40-pound difference in weight per year.

Instead of a rigorous exercise program, start with one that’s so quick and easy that your mind and body have no cause to resist. Small-step strategies…

Walk one block and back. Add one house to the distance each day.

Next time you watch TV, stand up and walk around the room for a single 30-second commercial.

The following day, stand and walk for an entire commercial break. Continue slowly expanding your walk time until you’re walking during every commercial.

Stand on your treadmill for a few minutes each morning while you read the newspaper. After a few days, turn the treadmill on, and walk for a minute or two. Then add a minute or two more every week.

    TO MANAGE STRESS

Traditional stress-reduction techniques, such as meditation, feel unnatural to many people. Some people actually become more stressed when they try to meditate because they feel that they are wasting time.

These people would be better off using smaller, quicker stress-reduction strategies. Small-step strategies…

Try to speak more slowly for a few minutes.
Consider which part of your body is “holding stress” — it often is the neck, the lower back or the shoulders.

Focus on that body part, then take one deep breath. Thinking about the body forces the mind to stop obsessing over problems and pressures for a moment.

When you are working, schedule three-minute breaks every 90 to 120 minutes. Working nonstop for longer than this increases stress and reduces productivity.

    TO CLEAN YOUR HOUSE

Cleaning a house can seem overwhelming. To get past this, tackle the task in stages so small that they don’t seem daunting and don’t deprive you of doing something you enjoy. Small-step strategy…

Select a five-minute segment of your day that you could spend cleaning without giving up an activity you enjoy.

Pick a single part of the house, set a timer for five minutes and stop cleaning the instant the time is up.

After a month or two of quick-and-easy short-burst cleaning, the idea of cleaning should no longer conjure up such deeply negative associations in your mind, making extended cleaning sessions more tolerable.

In the meantime, five minutes of cleaning each day usually can keep a home clean.

    TO GET MORE SLEEP

If you try to go to bed an hour earlier than usual, you’ll either think of things that need to get done and skip this earlier bedtime… or you’ll go to bed but be unable to fall asleep.

Instead, let your mind adjust gradually to a new sleep schedule. Small-step strategy…

Go to bed one minute earlier than usual. Then move your bedtime an additional minute earlier each day until you wake rested.

This might not take as long as you think — researchers have found that even a few minutes of extra sleep per night can make a difference.

    TO REDUCE SPENDING

Unless your financial problems are so pressing that drastic change is necessary, spend a month training your brain to search for small savings before attempting big ones.

This reduces the odds that the mind will rebel against the economizing. Small-step strategies…

Remove one item from your shopping cart before checking out.

Set a goal of trimming $1 from your budget each day.
Allow yourself your favorite daily indulgence, but purchase it in a smaller size or split it with a friend.
Try the store brand of one brand-name item you usually buy.

A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL STATE OF MICHIGAN :

    SITUATION…
While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it.
For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Canton PD and they were going to check it out. But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check….

“There are several things to be aware of … gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women) to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.

“There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police Department where gangs are placing a car seat by the road…with a fake baby in it….waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.

“Note that the location of this car seat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person — woman — will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead. If it’s a man, they’re usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON!!! DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON ‘T EVEN SLOW DOWN.

“IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD, DO NOT STOP TO CHECK THE CAR, DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%, AND YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE CRIMINALS.

THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS, SO PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE ARE UNSAVORY INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT.”

Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic used. Please be safe.

Get started NOW — SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES TO BE CAREFUL AND AWARE OF EVERYTHING AROUND THEM SO AS NOT TO BECOME A VICTIM.

    WARNING # 2

Some knew about the red light on cars, but not the 112.
It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind herand put his lights on. Lauren’s parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called 112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren’t, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew about the 112 Cell Phone feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe place.

*Speaking to a service representative at Bell Mobility confirmed that 112 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it’s your turn to let your friends know about 112.

You may want to send this to every woman (and man) you know; it may save a life.

This applies to ALL 50 states

Come on now did we really think Congress would pass this bill even when it has some of the issues they (GOP) wanted.

We can cut all the spending they want as long as it does not cause a change in their life style, their loop holes and corp gains.

Lets start by cutting their pay, their health care and their CORP Gains, They need to experience what we have experience with jobs lost, homes lost, food shortage Occupy is on the right track.

This Congress is trying to hold out till 2012 and we can not let that happen.

We are the consumers and we need to outsmart the corporations and crooked members of Congress .

HUMAN EVENTS first broke the story earlier this summer that a new bureaucracy called the Interagency Working Group on Food Marketed to Children is telling food manufacturers to either retool the recipes to contain certain levels of sugar, sodium and fats, or no more advertising and marketing to tots and teenagers.

That means goodbye to Tony, Count Chocula, and that bird that’s coo coo for Cocoa Puffs.

So far, the bureaucrats aren’t getting a lot of sympathy from the Republican side of the aisle who agree that childhood obesity is a problem, but disagree that it’s Tony the Tiger’s fault.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R. –Calif.) said she was concerned that foods considered healthy are also on the hit list, along with water, oatmeal and lettuce, and that the guidelines would take a heavy financial toll on industry that would be passed on to the consumers. “Hopefully, we can get some straight answers to these and some other very important questions before committing to a national policy that may shrink family budgets, but not waistlines,” Bono said.

“People are smart enough to recognize that Girl Scout cookies or a cake bought at a bake sale are not health foods and then act accordingly,” Bono said. “But that said, I still remain very concerned that healthy foods like yogurt could wind up not meeting these new standards. So much for counting calories,” Bono said.

The Working Group was directed by congress to present a report to lawmakers on suggested standards for marketing to children along with recommendations on how to make that happen, but Congress never got the report, the so-called suggestions went straight to industry, which says it will cost them millions of dollars to retool the contents of food to meet the strict guidelines.

Numerous lawmakers at the hearing reminded the government workers that they are still waiting to see the report they asked for.

“Frankly, we’d like to find out what you have been cooking up in kitchen. Right now, I’m not sure that I like the smell of it,” Bono said.

Stay tuned to HumanEvents.com as this story unfolds.

Now that the bought and paid for five on the Supreme Court have given the corporations license to buy politicians outright with unlimited campaign contributions, the republicans are attempting to give the right to brain wash our children with their deceptive commercials in a greedy move to force sugar loaded products on them.

    It’s as simple as that.

Thanks to Phil Gramm and Jim Leach Act most of the unregulated, casino-style derivatives trading is not illegal.

In addition, despite the serious violation of the spirit of the regulation which allowed Lehmann to temporarily offload its excess debt via Repo 105, the officers of Lehmann may not be liable criminally.

Still, those who engaged in predatory lending, those who authorized the robo signing of foreclosure documents, etc, did break the law and should be prosecuted.

The banksters who enabled this should be forced to resign, if not indicted outright.

Wingless, Bloodsucking and Parasitic: Meet the Flea Party!
    by Ann Coulter

So far, the only major accomplishment of the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters is that it has finally put an end to their previous initiative, “Occupy Our Mothers’ Basements.”

Oddly enough for such a respectable-looking group — a mixture of adolescents looking for a cause, public sector union members, drug dealers, criminals, teenage runaways, people who have been at every protest since the Berkeley Free Speech Movement,

people 95 percent of whose hair is concentrated in their ponytails, Andrea Dworkin? look-alikes and other average Democrats — they can’t even explain what they’re protesting.

The protesters either treat inquiries about their purpose as a trick question, or — worse — instantly rattle off a series of insane causes:

“No. 1, abolish capitalism; No. 2, because 9/11 was an inside job; No. 3, because Mumia is innocent …”

Michelle, I can’t believe that Hilary Clinton is about to sign an agreement to normalize relations with Omar al-Bashir, the same man responsible for genocide in Darfur, has turned his sights on South Kordofan and Blue Nile — slaughtering men, women and children and displacing hundreds of thousands of people.

Something has to be done. Please tell your readers to write Mrs Clinton and tell her to stop Bashir’s rampant killing spree.

Wall Street Journal Europe Circulation Scam Leads Top Dow Jones Exec To Resign

The trouble never seems to end for News Corp. In addition to battling phone hacking charges, the beleaguered company is now facing an investigation into a circulation scam at the Wall Street Journal’s European edition.

The Guardian reported Wednesday that it has evidence that the WSJ had been channeling money to European companies to buy thousands of copies of its European edition at extremely cheap rates and inflating its circulation numbers.

The agreement had suggested that one of the companies could receive coverage, though it specified that the news department would have final say over whether any article would appear.

An internal investigation found that the paper’s European publisher Andrew Langhoff promoted the scam, and pressured reporters to write two stories that featured a Dutch sponsor called the Executive Learning Partnership. He resigned on Tuesday over complaints about unethical influence over the paper’s editorial content.

  25. Hai Says:

    Main Dude:

How is it that you don’t comment on accusations that China is screwing Africa? Are you a lackey for Anonz too? He is a multibillionaire raping Africa for all he can get. He owns so much real estate there.

Sure he is upset that we are moving in and are willing to give the people a fair offer for what he got for as you say peanuts. At least chinese men are willing to make an investment in the country. We marry into the families and work the land with our new relatives.

Anonz kills his competition by pretending he is doing it for the black africans. I feel that Africa is big enough for all its citizens, arab, black, asian and white alike.

    Howie,

I see Al came back. So did you free him from that alien prison you had him in? I was visiting Israel and I mentioned that I knew a jew that wrote on a blog that he was friends with an alien and to my surprise 2 soldiers said that they read your column. I reminded them that you do not write a column only a ridiculous tirade about a relationship with an imaginary god.

Those brutes actually attacked me. Me, a long time supporter of Israel. I should have listened to my brothers when they warned me to never trust a jew because they stick together like rats. I am so glad to be back in the home of the brave. I will never visit Israel again until the Arabs have taken back the Holy Land from the people who killed our LORD JESUS.

  29. Zen Lill Says:

Anonymous #4 thank you for the 411 on the 112, I will pass that along.

I think it’s interesting that Hai’s take on Anonz is so much different than the African women who wrote in here, whenever they can, claiming he’s a hero for them. Hai, when was the last time you fought off ‘lackey’s’ who rape the women of Africa instead of pretending to do favors by ‘marrying and working side by side’ with them. Please…

And Raymond, really? Is it wise to call Howie to task? Hmmm, seems most groups stick together so whatever your point was about jews is lost. Besides which, your formulation of argument would be believing that we (any of us or just Howie) believe in YOUR lord jesus christ, maybe we don’t…

    Raymond:

That was a very interesting story but I think it is all bullshit.

So, respond. And if it asks for an address you can give the website 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington D.C. 20500

Melinda, I’ll get back with you. Remind me.

  32. Chan Says:

    Melinda:

Do not expect honest answer from a capitalist who admires the likes of a fraud like Anonz. The People’s Republic of China has incurred much time and expense mapping the motives and greed of the major capitalist Anonz.

He will not be stopped by words. This one requires bullets. Doug like many misguided Americans admire the propaganda spewed by Anonz’s publicity department. The man is a profiteer without peer. He is attempting to stain the intentions of the Republic of China because he wants you to thing that China wants to exploit Africa the way white America has done for centuries.

    We bring change to Africa

    Chan

  33. Zen Lill Says:

Chan, I won’t speak for Doug, I’ll only state that bc someone tells the truth as you yourself have researched it, it doesn’t mean you necessarily admire what they do, but one can admire that Anonz is expressing (disclosing) to all of us the usage and abuse of the American public (how we are getting fleeced regularly by rethugs) is done and explained by someone who is doing it. That’s a little different than open admiration for what he is doing. Most people in the US know about ‘elites’ and how they run things but not to the degree that those who read here or do their own research do, there’s a lot of people outside of our major metropolitans that believe the sound bytes of FOXsnooze…and, of course, he’s a profiteer and he’s no more abusing the continent of Africa than China is, I love how you think China’s ‘helping’ and Anonz is just ‘exploiting’ (more or less), neither one of you (Anonz, US or China) is innocently ‘helping’ anyone, both take advantage of a place/people as you wish to further your need for a feed (or greed : ) – ZL

  34. Zen Lill Says:

Correction: there are a lot of people also IN major metropolitans that also believe in FOXsnooze sound bytes and the general notion that rethugs are ‘fiscally conservative’ and dems are ‘socially liberal’ without means to finance it and that is spun to make people believe it.

Mitt Romney’s camp has its eye on an endorsement from top Democratic donor and “Power Rangers” creator Haim Saban, who told us the GOP presidential front-runner is a “worthy candidate.” Sources say the ex-Massachusetts gov’s team is working on scoring an A-list endorsement from the Jewish advocate and entertainment billionaire who has donated heavily to Dems. Saban said he won’t be supporting Obama in 2012 because of the president’s stance on Israel. “Haim is a big get,” a source said. “It’s a signal to Democrats in Hollywood that it’s OK to abandon Obama.”

I live in Alberta Canada. I read this morning about a shooting in Seal Beach. You said that you were heading for the beach. Was the shooting near you?

I agree with what you said about the US and China. However, from the feedback coming from the women who live in Africa and who must face the three every day, I would disagree with your including Anonz in the same category with the other two.

Yes, he is an American. But we see him as a counterbalance to the evil that is present in Africa for greed. To put one’s life on the line rather than just one’s money speaks to a greater honesty and commitment than the pontiff who advocates or the nation who sends others to die for their protestations.
