The Final Debate – Go Obama!

Good morning!

With over 60+ million people gearing up to watch the debate, no doubt many of you, my readers, are part of that stat. What is it that you want President Obama to do or say tonight? A few of you had some good suggestions for him last time. Were you pleased? What more do you want from him tonight? Now’s the time to get verbal. Perhaps…just perhaps he’s reading, or at least his peeps are. :)

Here is the format for tonight’s final debate thanks to the Huff Po:

THE DEBATE FORMAT: Good news for people who liked the unstructured discussion of the first debate, if any such people actually exist: this final debate will also feature six questions, and candidates will have fifteen minutes to answer each, the same format that was attempted, rather unsuccessfully, in the opening round.

Those six question/discussion sections will encompass the following themes, barring any news event that intervenes between now and then:

  • America’s role in the world
  • Our longest war – Afghanistan and Pakistan
  • Red Lines – Israel and Iran
  • The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism – I
  • The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism – II
  • The Rise of China and Tomorrow’s World

(Yeah, we sort of feel we’re getting cheated with two sections on the same topic, too. It is what it is.)

As you can see, tonights questions are based on foreign policy. And since China is one of the questions, I thought I would post this write that I found…just to get you in the mood.

Asian Seafood Raised on Pig Feces Approved for U.S. Consumers

At Ngoc Sinh Seafoods Trading & Processing Export Enterprise, a seafood exporter onVietnam’s southern coast, workers stand on a dirty floor sorting shrimp one hot September day. There’s trash on the floor, and flies crawl over baskets of processed shrimp stacked in an unchilled room in Ca Mau.

Elsewhere in Ca Mau, Nguyen Van Hoang packs shrimp headed for the U.S. in dirty plastic tubs. He covers them in ice made with tap water that the Vietnamese Health Ministry says should be boiled before drinking because of the risk of contamination with bacteria. Vietnam ships 100 million pounds of shrimp a year to the U.S. That’s almost 8 percent of the shrimp Americans eat.

Food Report: Food Sickens Millions as Company-Paid Checks Find It Safe

Using ice made from tap water in Vietnam is dangerous because it can spread bacteria to the shrimp, microbiologist Mansour Samadpour says, Bloomberg Markets magazine reports in its November issue.

“Those conditions — ice made from dirty water, animals near the farms, pigs — are unacceptable,” says Samadpour, whose company, IEH Laboratories & Consulting Group, specializes in testing water for shellfish farming.

Ngoc Sinh has been certified as safe by Geneva-based food auditor SGS SA, says Nguyen Trung Thanh, the company’s general director.

No Record

“We are trying to meet international standards,” Thanh says.

SGS spokeswoman Jennifer Buckley says her company has no record of auditing Ngoc Sinh.

At Chen Qiang’s tilapia farm in Yangjiang city in China’s Guangdong province, which borders Hong Kong, Chen feeds fish partly with feces from hundreds of pigs and geese. That practice is dangerous for American consumers, says Michael Doyle, director of the University of Georgia’s Center for Food Safety.

“The manure the Chinese use to feed fish is frequently contaminated with microbes like salmonella,” says Doyle, who has studied foodborne diseases in China.

On a sweltering, overcast day in August, the smell of excrement is overpowering. After seeing dead fish on the surface, Chen, 45, wades barefoot into his murky pond to open a pipe that adds fresh water from a nearby canal. Exporters buy his fish to sell to U.S. companies.

Yang Shuiquan, chairman of a government-sponsored tilapia aquaculture association in Lianjiang, 200 kilometers from Yangjiang, says he discourages using feces as food because it contaminates water and makes fish more susceptible to diseases. He says a growing number of Guangdong farmers adopt that practice anyway because of fierce competition.

“Many farmers have switched to feces and have stopped using commercial feed,” he says.

Frequently Contaminated

About 27 percent of the seafood Americans eat comes from China – and the shipments that the FDA checks are frequently contaminated, the FDA has found. The agency inspects only about 2.7 percent of imported food. Of that, FDA inspectors have rejected 1,380 loads of seafood from Vietnam since 2007 for filth and salmonella, including 81 from Ngoc Sinh, agency records show. The FDA has rejected 820 Chinese seafood shipments since 2007, including 187 that contained tilapia.

    Hi Mischa,

  2. Jane Says:

I liked this reaction to the debate.
    =====================

Last night, Mitt Romney started out weak, and dropped swiftly after. Obama schooled him recklessly, but not hard enough, at times. What surprises more than Romney’s robot-responses and rattling-off lists of Middle Eastern countries is the fact that, according to most polls, about 25% of his supporters still think he won.

This detachment from reality seems to be a main identifier of conservatives. Whatever has an (R) behind the name wins. Even if an empty suit would have hung there, they’d still claim Romney won.

The status quo is: Three weeks before the general elections, we have a candidate who has not disclosed anything to the American People. Answers about his plan to create jobs and close loopholes remain as secret as his tax returns.

We have a candidate who promotes talking smack with China, but got rich by breaking up American companies and shipping the jobs overseas. We have a candidate that has flip-fopped on every single issue: abortion, women, immigration, you name it.

So what’s left for Republicans? They can do what they always do when they see they lose: blame others. Pollsters, the moderator, the press, it’s gotta be somebody’s fault.

  3. Ray Says:

So we Obama’s childish “zingers” part of the new tone he was bringing to Washington?

Obama is a typical lying politician.

  4. Phil Says:

I can not help but to start to really believe that this was all a part of the President’s plan to destroy Romney in the debate process. That which he successfully completed.

  5. Gwen Says:

Listen to this attempt by the white boys in the media. I heard this guy saying Mitt may have lost the last two debates but he won the debate season.

He won the debate season? What the fuck does that mean but — we got to find a way to call the white guy the winner.

  6. Lewis Says:

If you are an Obama apologist, you do NOT want to read factcheck.org this morning. Numerous huge untruths for O, with only a couple of nit-picking complaints about Romney.

  7. Trey Says:

That was a great game last night. Giants are back in the WS! When’s the 3rd presidential debate?

  8. Cain Says:

If you take away the lies that Romney and Ryan have told, you wouldn’t have enough substance to fill a coke can. These two have lied, flip flopped, distorted and spun everything from day one and have hidden one of the most extreme agendas that has come from politicians in more than two decades.

intend to totally dismantle all safety nets while they give more to the rich and the military. Their “Bush” brand of economics would, if given the chance, destroy America’s middle class and place extreme hardships on our elderly, poor and uninsured citizens.

They must be defeated and along with them their “slash and burn” policies that reek of unfairness, greed and incompassion.

  9. Wilma Says:

Lewis, the debate was fact checked in real time…. and Romney told 24 myths in only 41 minutes.

  10. Dee Says:

    Untrue Lewis

  11. Jorge Says:

Sorry, you missed it Trey, Obama won 10 to nothing

  12. Carie Says:

The R’s are on here full force this morning……they must be very worried by what they saw last night….their candidate who basically agreed with Obama on everything.

Net/net: undecideds who probably sat at home thinking “No difference between the two. Why bother changing”. What a missed opportunity for Romney. And I love it.

  13. Bernice Says:

My favorite comment was the “horses and bayonets”! I hope the American people see that there is more that goes into foreign policy than exploding the military budget!

  14. Mellie Says:

“Romney could handle the job by a 60 percent to 38 percent margin, and that Obama could by a 63 percent to 36 percent margin.”

I think that’s all that matters – they are both viewed as being able to handle foreign policy and what the future may bring. I see this as no clear ‘winner’ but if Obama is viewed as such, then so what – there were no outstanding differences. Romney has the bigger edge on the economy which is said to be the bigger issue.

  15. Ron Says:

Mitt’s knowledge on foreign affairs only goes as far as where his investments (or doner $ Sheldon Adelson) are located. Other than that (dim)Mitt was lost.

  16. Jan Says:

Willard’s expertise in foreign countries is spread throughout his many investments outside of America.

  17. Steve Says:

Millie, if Romney has the bigger edge on the economy…. then why are all of the most technology rich and heavily industrialized states (NY, CA, IL) voting for President Obama?

Instead, I see all of thepoorest and leasteducated states voting for Romney (LA, MS, AL).

That doesn’t say he has an edge on the economy to me….
    1 minute ago (11:15 AM)
States full of lo-info voters, maybe? Certainly they know nothing of fact checking!! Obama 2012

  18. Vickie Says:

Ron, you are forgetting about his foreign ‘experience’ in Mexico, where the practice of polygamy is just fine.

  19. Cynthia Says:

Gwen, I agree with you the white boy controlled media lies like Romney, no wonder that white boy feels so comfortable doing it.

That media tells us that Romney leads Obama by 10 points among men, of course leaving out the fact that figure is skewered by the fact that 60% of white men are voting their tiny penis size. Then they say Obama is leading among women by 8%. Again leading out the fact that many white women are skewering that poll because they are voting color.

Lying is the state of existence by most of white America. They lie about history when they color what they did for 200 years to the OTWs.

It is easy for the majority race in this country to accept lies because their history of the country has always been based on lies.

  20. Brook Says:

Romney spent half the night agreeing with the President and the other half distancing himself from almost every position he has ever previously had.

  21. Mary Says:

If not for the color of the men would so many white people like: John McCain think thing was the ‘best candidate’ Would Donald Trump, Alice Cooper and Elisabeth Hasselbeck have all PUBLICALLY stated that this thing was Presidential material?

    Go figure.

    Mary

  22. Anabelle Says:

I find it anti-amusing the way Romney supporters can’t even admit the truth to themselves, let alone everyone else. Mr. Romney lost lastnight just as he did the second debate but of course his supporters would rather spin the truth than admit he lost.

President Obama lost the first debate. Rather than spin that truth, he admitted that defeat just as his supporters did (me included). Why on G0D’s green earth would I EVER give my vote to a party that can’t even be honest with themselves let alone me?

That in itself is a reason Mr. Romney cannot be trusted with the Office of the Presidency… especially with National Security.

  23. Martha Says:

Did anyone else NOT think it was such a good thing for Romney to insert his personal relationship with the PM of Israel into the debate? I for one do NOT want the POTUS’s lips firmly implanted on the buttocks of ANY foreign leader regardless of how close an ally they are.

  24. Burt Says:

This third debate has cemented Mitt Romney as a snake oil salesman. He previously has tacked all over the place crossing his tow line as he changed policies and betrayed constituencies.

Now, he is steaming straight for the center as his polices better line up with centralist view and Obama. The man is either these last months had multiple epiphanies or is coldly calculating rolling up each group to his side and thereby representing no one but himself.

This is the private equity executive closing the deal, but this isn’t a merger this time and his tactics are frightening. He has no core, he represents no view except his own resume that must include the highest office. He is Andy Griffith’ s character in the movie, Dusty Roads.

  25. Ken Says:

It just goes to show you how different people, view things differently. I found that Romney was a huge fan of President Obama’s approach to foreign policy…and that he differed mainly on the visuals. Chief among his visuals, was his vision of him implementing the Presidents foreign policy vision, as opposed to the President. Romney = Horrific Fail!!

  26. Pearl Says:

    It’s the typical GOP mindset:
Forget facts that complicate matters for your world-view.

  27. Eric Says:

Middle Class/ Unions.Com :) Just One Hundred Years Of your American History showing you For ONE HUNDRED Years as goes UNIONS so Goes the Middle Class…Dont believe me READ your America History :) Your Welcome for the Education About YOUR Country :)

  28. Jim Says:

We have freed other nations from dictators….actually, the dictators that we designed and installed” Romney showed his true colors ( hair excepted). He’s a chameleon who’s really a used car salesman. Coffee is for closers

  29. Erwin Witty Says:

Hi there , community! This story is surely up-to-date . Honestly it is very complex to obtain some kind of info connected with those jammers . I think that is so because they are really new to the market . But there are some blogs where that data can be obtained. I found it at mobile jamer.
