Racial Slur Printed On Receipt
Posted by Michelle Moquin on January 10th, 2012
Good morning!
Can you imagine buying something, getting a receipt, and when you glance down at your receipt, you see a racist comment printed on your receipt? One girl who went to Papa Johns Pizza had just that experience.
Check this out:

The insensitivity of some people is truly amazing. When informed about the recipe one of her employees gave to a customer, the manager replied:
“I apologize,” she said in a phone interview. “I’m sure they didn’t mean any harm but some people will take it offensive.” She added that she “had an idea of who it was,” based on the time of the receipt.
Yeah, some people take offense to being racially slurred! Duh!
Here’s the write:
‘Lady Chinky Eyes’: Papa John’s Store Calls Woman Racial Slur In Receipt (PHOTO) (UPDATE)
Minhee Cho went to Papa John’s for some fast food goodness. Little did she know, she would get it served with a side of racism.
At around 12:30 p.m. today, Papa John’s customerMinhee Cho tweeted a photo of a receipt she received at a Papa John’s restaurant in uptown, New York City.
In it, under the customer’s name section, the restaurant employee who rang up the order used the racial slur “lady chinky eyes” to describe her.
Cho posted the photo to her Twitter page, where it was quickly retweeted by hundreds of people. By 3 p.m., the photo had been viewed over 25,000 times.
When The Huffington Post reached the Papa John’s in question for comment, the assistant manager — who only gave her first name as Marjani — said she was unaware of the incident.
“I apologize,” she said in a phone interview. “I’m sure they didn’t mean any harm but some people will take it offensive.” She added that she “had an idea of who it was,” based on the time of the receipt.
Marjani went on to say that this was the kind of behavior that would result in disciplinary action, but declined to go into further detail on what she planned to do.
Papa John’s has yet to respond to the incident in a statement or its Facebook and Twitter accounts, but with such a PR disaster on their hands, they most likely will soon.
UPDATE: Papa John’s has responded to the incident on Facebook. A post on its official pagereads:
We were extremely concerned to learn of the receipt issue in New York. This act goes against our company values, and we’ve confirmed with the franchisee that this matter was addressed immediately and that the employee is being terminated. We are truly sorry for this customer’s experience.
The company has also addressed the matter on its Twitter feed, tweeting to multiple people that “We have issued an apology, are reaching out to customer & franchise employee is being terminated.”
Readers: I am still behind on the reading of all the comments that have come in, so please don’t think that I am ignoring you if I have not addressed you yet. I read the comments in the order they are posted and answer or respond to them in the same order. Thanks for your patience.
Grace: I wanted to write you this morning as I see you have commented quite a few times. You’ve lead a very interesting life here on Earth. I understand you want to continue that interesting life in outer space. Al is correct, you are not too old to become a girlz. And how delightful that your beautiful family is so supportive. Consider it done. Say your goodbyes to your loving family and friends. I too look forward to meeting you.
I’m out of here early today. Thanks so much for reading. Blog me what you will. The forum is now open. Peace…

THE SECRET POWER OF GREEN TEA
Yes, we live in a coffee society. Hellooo Starbucks! But even at that shrine to the roasted bean, you can order lots of different kinds of teas, too.
Next time you find yourself there or in another beverage shop, you might want to order yourself a piping hot cup of green tea, which has bountiful health benefits.
I was reminded of this once again when I attended a lecture on the topic by Mark Blumenthal, founder and executive director of the nonprofit American Botanical Council.
WHAT MAKES GREEN TEA DIFFERENT?
While green, black and oolong teas all come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, and theoretically offer similar health benefits, the truth is that the green tea we drink usually is far better for us because it has undergone the least amount of processing.
Some types of tea must be fermented — the leaves wilt, and then they are bruised and rolled, which results in the leaves being fully oxidized.
But with green tea, the wilting is halted by using dry or steam heat, so the leaves are only dried.
This allows them to remain exceptionally rich in natural polyphenol antioxidants known as catechins, Blumenthal explained.
The most powerful of these is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which acts as a kind of superhero antioxidant in your body to wipe out free radicals that damage genetic material in cells and cause disease.
Blumenthal noted that there actually has been an explosion of research on green tea over the past decade. Blumenthal and I reviewed some of the stand-out findings…
Lower heart risk. Numerous studies demonstrate that green tea can lower your risk for cardiovascular disease.
Explore green tea’s anticancer potential. A variety of population-based research suggests that green tea protects against cancer — in other words, cancer rates tend to be lower in Asian countries, where people regularly consume the beverage.
And in one recent study of more than 500 people in Taiwan, investigators found that people (including both smokers and nonsmokers) who did not drink green tea experienced more than five times the risk for lung cancer compared with participants who drank at least one cup a day.
Slim down with a cup of tea. In a clinical trial of more than 100 overweight adults ages 21 to 65, half had about two cups (about 16 ounces) of a catechin-containing beverage that included green tea extract each day while the other half drank a placebo beverage that did not contain green tea.
All engaged in 180 minutes weekly of moderate exercise and were asked to eat what they normally eat throughout the study.
After 12 weeks, members of the catechin group had shed more abdominal fat and showed greater improvement in their triglyceride (blood fat) levels than the control group.
Results were published in the February 2009 Journal of Nutrition.
HAVE A CUPPA ANTIOXIDANTS
Following an extensive review of the data on green tea, Blumenthal told me that he believes that most health benefits begin to accrue with about five cups per day.
My first reaction was, wow, that’s a lot of tea — but he explained that this refers to five of the five-ounce cups common in Asia, which translates to about three of our Western-style mugs.
Generally speaking, said Blumenthal, the teas with the most nutrients are almost always sold in bulk as “leaves” as opposed to in tea bags.
Brewing tea in bags is more convenient for most people, but if you want more bang for your buck, buy the leaves. You can buy either caffeinated or decaffeinated green tea.
Some experts think that decaffeinated tea may have fewer nutrients, but Blumenthal doesn’t know of any data that supports this.
To preserve the tea’s antioxidants, store the leaves or bags in a cool, relatively dark area. How you take your tea — such as with milk, sugar or honey — doesn’t appear to affect the health benefits of tea, said Blumenthal.
Just be sure to steep the tea for two to five minutes to get the most polyphenols — and if you’re using a bag, dunk it up and down.

Thank you.

Grace, I am very happy for you, now that you have your answer. I am sure that you will make a great Girlz. Send me a postcard (just kidding).
Bon voyage,
Al
Hi Michelle, maybe I am mistaken, but didn’t something similar happen a few years back at another fast food joint?
January 10th, 2012 at 11:07 am
HI Mischa, I’m going to guess it was done by a 16 yr old white kid…though for some reason most kids don’t get it, I’ve heard my kids’ Asian friends call black pals Niggah and others call them chinky, perhaps it’s only amongst them that it’s funny, in this case to use a derogatory term as a descriptor of a woman is just lacking in brains and sensitivity, not to mention the implied racism.
Grace, right on, you’re a girlZ! Enjoy your new journey : )
Luv, Zen Lill – a fellow girlZ

Al, I was thinking the same thing. My girl friend who is black brought it to my attention when it happened. She was very upset. I felt so bad thinking my race would do something like that.
Now it happens again. What is wrong with us? Why do we have to be so mean. We are the ones who run this country and we certainly get our share of the benefits.
Do some of us really have to lord it over the OTWs?
Thanks for reminding me.

The report says that the “Internal Affairs investigation was completed but is in a final review process.” Its not clear what that means.
The report also states that “it appears that the case will be sustained against two officers for administrative violations” for the manner in which they handled the initial stolen vehicle report, but “there is no credible evidence to support” the other allegations.
However the case was referred “to the AG’s Office for their review and disposition.”

Nice Peter but once again men are trying a sneaky plow to force women to have what their sperm has caused in the woman’s womb.
This law pretends it is concerned about a woman’s unborn child. But it is a start to making an unborn a living thing so men can legislate what a pregnant woman can and cannot do.

Guam News – Guam News
Guam – Senator Frank Blas, Jr. introduced a new bill called “Acts of Violence Against Unborn Children” yesterday evening.
Bill 409 recognizes a “child in utero” as a legal victim if it is harmed during a crime of violence.
Senator Blas explains that Bill 409 imposes “criminal liability should an individual assault an expectant mother and possibly cause harm to the unborn child.”
The bill equates the penalty for intentionally harming or killing an unborn child to First Degree Murder.
Therefore, perpetrators that knowingly hurt unborn children could be sentenced an additional term of imprisonment, ranging from fifteen years to a life sentence.
READ Bill 409
The proposed bill does not apply to acts committed within customary medical practice. Nor does Bill 409 apply to acts committed during an abortion.
According to Senator Blas, this legislation has no impact on Roe v. Wade or on those areas in regards to abortion.
READ Senator Blas’ release in FULL below:
BLAS INTRODUCES MEASURE RELATIVE TO ACTS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST UNBORN CHILDREN (Bill 409-31)
Hagatna – Earlier today, Senator Frank F. Blas, Jr. introduced Bill 409-31, which is “An Act to Add Chapter 16 to Title 19 of the Guam Code Annotated Relative to Acts of Violence Against an Unborn Child.”
Senator Blas stated, “In many of the discussions on a woman’s choice on abortion, what I saw lacking was a discussion on the protection of the unborn child against violence inflicted on a mother who was nurturing and caring for that baby in her womb.
This bill makes it a crime to knowingly inflict harm on an unborn child and will enhance the penalties that could be imposed on an individual if the victim is with child.”
The bill states that the provisions do not apply to acts committed during an abortion, as defined in the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2008, as amended, to which the pregnant woman has consented, or for acts committed pursuant to usual or customary standards of medical practice during diagnostic testing or therapeutic treatment.
In introducing the bill, Blas states, “I have the greatest respect for a woman who does everything she can to nurture and protect her unborn child.
And if this woman becomes a victim of violence that could potentially harm her baby or be the cause for the loss of her child, I want her to know that her perpetrator will suffer dearly for her loss.”

This Lying Sack of Shit asshole is just trying to do the bidding of the catholic church. He could care less about the suffering of women.

Zen Lill, I was wondering what quote you were citing also. Thanks for clearing that up.
I sure wish I made half the impression on men that you do. I guess I need lessons. How do you or maybe what did you do to get to where you are with men?
I feel very relaxed around men. I’m not blond but I am a 6 foot redhead knock out. I seem to be doing alright, but I don’t get the reactions you do.
What’s your secret?

Make no mistake: even if Rick Santorum loses the Republican nomination, he could very well become Mitt Romney’s running mate.
This man has compared marriage equality to “man on dog” sex and polygamy. And he could be the next Vice President – representing America abroad and wielding political influence at the highest levels.
A Romney-Santorum White House could set back our progress for years – especially on the repeal of DOMA.
Voters are going to the polls in New Hampshire TODAY. This race is moving fast, and we need to move fast too.
Join HRC today to help expose right-wing candidates while voters are still making up their minds.
Why Santorum? Simple. He would motivate millions of right-wing voters and volunteers on Election Day.
But you can help make sure the public knows the truth about these reactionary candidates. You can fund field organizers in key states, support our work in the media, and help us rally more than one million HRC members and supporters to make sure our country moves forward, not backward.
Your support right now will also help us fight back as anti-marriage equality campaigns straight out of Karl Rove’s playbook hit states across the country:
They’re trying to amend the Minnesota constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
In North Carolina, they’re attempting to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions – and strip domestic partnership benefits that are already recognized in counties and municipalities across the state.
They’re mobilizing their supporters in a Prop. 8-style campaign to put an end to marriage equality in Iowa.
They’re launching well-funded campaigns against our grassroots organizing in Maine, Washington, and Maryland.
In New Hampshire, they’re poised to vote to repeal marriage equality – a move that the state’s governor will hopefully veto.
They’re counting on people like you to be so caught up in the presidential campaign that we don’t notice their subtle, state-by-state campaign to do away with LGBT rights. Not. Going. To. Happen.
Everything is on the line in 2012, and we need everyone to go ALL IN to secure our victories. Join HRC NOW!
Every ballot initiative, every hateful remark, every bigoted candidate – you’re there. Thank you for continuing to be a part of this movement.
Let’s go,
Joe Solmonese
President
P.S. If you’ve already put a check in the mail or given to HRC through some other method, thank you so much. If you haven’t yet contributed, please make a gift now. Your gift is critical to our fight against bigotry in all its forms.

I just read that garbage above by Human Events. Here is a better assessment by HufPost.
======================
Act One of the Nuttiest Show on Earth — aka the race for the GOP nomination — has finally come to an end, and we’re just hours away from Act Two in New Hampshire.
Though the country is sorely in need of solutions, and the public hungry for real debate, that’s not what was served up in Iowa — either by the candidates or the vast pack of media covering their every word.
What we got instead was a deluge of attack ads, largely financed by the super PACs allowed by the Citizens United decision.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, 264 super PACs have been spawned for the 2012 race and they’ve already spent almost half of the $32 million they’ve raised.
Perhaps this disconnect between what people are really concerned about and what the candidates are talking about is why only 17 percent of Americans are satisfied with the way things are going.
==================
Aren’t you just tired of republicans claiming to be the party that is against activist judges when they applaud the SCOTUS for passing that insane “Citizens United” law.
We need to do whatever it takes to get the republicans out of the federal legislature.
Elke
January 10th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
It is my guess that most of the republicans are not interested in running the country as they are in ruining it for Obama.
That i is important because it is the same I that works for their rank and file. They are about what’s in the country for themselves.
The welfare of the rest of us is not even a concern.
Nancy
January 10th, 2012 at 12:39 pm
We are focusing on the corporate backgrounds of all Republican candidates. The major networks are making observations literally by the minute. Who is hiding their experience, wealth and shortcomings?Yet as a Republican I am amazed that the networks have over looked an asset that could win the 2012 elections.
Michelle Obama is an asset to the President that will pay dividends over and over to his campaign, Jodi Kantor’s book or not.
This lady is a winner as a mother, first lady and a role model for nutrition and compassion for all people.
She gets it and in my opinion the American people will respond to her and Jill Biden on election day. They maybe stealth but they are great assets.
The Republicans are missing that most essential ingredient in their mix.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:41 pm
I listened to all the Republican presidential candidate debates. Here’s what I didn’t hear:
Any mention of George W. Bush, or any statement similar to this: “During the George W. Bush years, when we had complete control of the federal legislative and executive branches, we proudly used our political advantage to accomplish these things that helped all Americans. …”
Can anyone suggest why none of the candidates brought that up?
One would think the GOP would want to tout its accomplishments when it was last in charge of things — out of political pride and to solidify Republican claims of a superior capability to solve our current national challenges.
One possible explanation is that the GOP isn’t all that proud of what it did — and didn’t do — the last time it was in charge, and hopes that people will forget.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:42 pm
There is not much difference between these Republicans they all support the 1% and no matter what happens in New Hampshire the basics remain the same…

January 10th, 2012 at 12:43 pm
The problem with the GOP economic plan is that everybody who hears it hates it. So they aren’t talking about it.
Romney wants to increase taxes in the poor and working class and cut taxes for his obscenely wealthy supporters. And so do they all, including Ron Paul.
It’s much easier to cater to the ignorance and prejudices of the Republican base, fire them up and get them to the polls to vote in a primary that is totally unrepresentative of the general electorate.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:45 pm
Our vote really no longer counts because we are not voting. “Citizen’s United” is really big business and they have “bought” the next election and want Romney -
a man who will follow their rules. These individuals are all bought with corporate dollars and our non-participation is going to clinch the deal for them … i.e., big business and Wall Street.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:46 pm
I cannot even listen to 5 minutes of the Republican debates.
I just don’t get why all they can talk about is abortion, birth control, and gay marriage when none of those topics are anywhere near the top of the list of issues that every day Americans worry most about.
I am a registered Democrat but am just as disheartened with President Obama.
With yesterday’s news of Daley resigning from the Chief of Staff position, and the appointment of Lew, it is clear to me that Obama is still recycling the same old tired politicians from the past.
What happened to “change we can believe in”? It sure would be nice to see some new, young blood with fresh ideas.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:48 pm
“Republicans will not feel compelled to talk about income inequality…” Replace “not feel compelled” with “be far too in love with their millionaire ‘base’ ” and you’d sum it all up nicely.
Talking about “access to the American Dream” is just another slab of red meat served up to the typical R voter – like “gay marriage” or “flag burning” – who remains tragically unaware of what’s really going on.
January 10th, 2012 at 12:49 pm
I agree, the Iowa caucus and run-up to the New Hampshire primary have been a media circus — but let’s give credit candidates who raise serious issues, even if the media effectively glosses over, because “entertainment sells”.
For example, in our tweet-centric, snippet-based reporting, I managed to find the following quote:
“Not only do we want to audit the Fed, we want to make sure that we have something much better than the current Federal Reserve System,” — Ron Paul said, moderating an applause line that typically calls for an “end” to the Fed.

Frank Knapp, President and CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chairman of the American Sustainable Business Council, said,
“I’m sick of people who wrecked the economy and their defenders in Congress blaming others for killing jobs. The high-end Bush tax cuts are a big part of the problem – not the solution. We need revenue for real job creation and economic renewal, not more job-killing budget cuts, job-killing corporate tax dodging and job-killing millionaires and billionaires not paying their fair share of taxes.
Less than 3 percent of the taxpayers who receive the high-end tax cuts actually have any business income, and those taxpayers include hedge fund managers, K Street lobbyists and Big Business CEOs who receive “business” income renting out their vacation homes.
It’s obscene to keep slashing infrastructure and services for everybody on Main Street to keep up tax giveaways for millionaires and multinational corporations.”
January 10th, 2012 at 1:02 pm
Mike #19, I am just so sick of people like you trying to insinuate Ron Paul into the picture as a possible presidential alternative to the other bigots.
Ron Paul is a RACIST and a BIGOT. So although he is not a treat to your insensitive white ass he is to OTWs in general.
Why in the hell you selfcentered white assholes think a thinking OTW would want a racist mother fucker as his president is beyond me.
The one thing Obama represents is the fact that those days are over. OTWs no longer have to accept the lesser of two evils.
That being a RACIST mother fucker who is too ignorant to help the country or a RACIST mother fucker who may be able to help the country.
You insensitive bastards are not the only citizens of this country. So you can keep your racist white offerings. We don’t give a shit how much on top of it your candidate is if he is a RACIST.
So you can take a Ron Paul and stick him up your narcissistic ass.

The current administration attempted to repeal a law that allows tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs -Republicans fillabustered the vote
-The current administration attempted to pass the jobs acts paid for by a measely %1 tax increase on those making over a million dollars -Republicans fillabustered the vote
-The current administration attempted to pass a meaningful stimulus that would have provided “shovel ready jobs” to the american people – Republicans, Joe Liberman, and Ben Nelson insisted over %50 would need to be tax cuts
-The current administration attempted to regulate Wall Street with a strong bill – republicans watered it down and made it toothless
-The current administration created the consumer protection agency – the republicans fillabusterd an up or down vote on the nominee for the head of said agency
-The current administration fought to extend unemployment insurance (unemployment insurance is money everyone who works put into the systms and gets when they are umemployed – its not welfare) – the republicans forced congress to tie it to extending the bush tax cuts.
I can go on and on. You need to do some research and find out what is going on for yourself.
Not everything the Obama Administration is doing is good or agreeable (to me at least), but he has done a hell of a lot more than the republicans have done.
January 10th, 2012 at 1:06 pm
Ida, Thank you so much for sharing that fact. This is one white man who understands and gets it.
I am sure there are many many more. But it doesn’t hurt to keep reminding us.

Hi Michelle, I could swear that I have seen a near identical scenario, and I believe it was here on your blog. Well, Papa John’s owes an appology No doubt. I also know it’s hard to control what an idiot employee might do.
I’ve read everybodys thoughts on the GOP and Company and I am sick to my stomach. They are so blatantly corrupt and they don’t even try to hide the fact. The GOP doesn’t seem to care who knows if they are LSOS’s. Does the GOP think that they have already bought and paid for,,,,whatever?
I have had more than enough of their bullshit and they kinda piss me off more than I want to be. How stupid do they think the American People are, or do they even care?
Al
January 10th, 2012 at 7:31 pm
Al, I’ll answer that one, they don’t care, since Reagan they’ve gotten even bolder in their lie telling, they’re so brazen that they don’t care what people think of their lying stinking shit…like I said the other day LSOS’s don’t identify with themselves that way bc they’re usually delusional (grandeur) and/or just plain old pathological in their ‘stories’ and the details within those stories (lies) – in fact, I bet the george’s of this blog and the GOP’s of the world would call the dem’s across the aisle LSOS’s and believe it amongst themselves…
Jackie, no idea…you sound confident or I’d say it’s partially that. It’s not a looks thing either, I’ve seen way better looking women not get the attention I do. I think it’s just an approachability thing, my kid just laughs bc it happens when I’m out with her all the time, too.
It’s kind of weird really…think it might be a vibrational/energetic attraction thing, maybe? Maybe men sense that I can handle the attention without being rude in my rebuff? A man I know tells me it’s in my eye contact and that I speak with intensity which indicates – I won’t use his word, I’ll use my own – passion.
A friend yesterday called me a man beacon bc as we passed 2 men talking and they both stopped talking and smiled/nodded at me, I returned the smile/nod (I thought it was directed at both of us but she said no, no, no) and when we passed them she started laughing, I thought it was at my brilliant wit but she said that they turned in perfect unison to check out my backside. She laughed and said you don’t even notice this shit? Nope, how would I, I don’t have eyes in the back of my head : )
I wish I had a better answer but I don’t, too bad, bc I would bottle it and sell it and make myself some real money!

I Mormon has won with a nasty tone is uttered by the losers. I beg to differ a christian has won.
ONLY A FEW UNDERSTANDS THE MORMON CULTURE, or will have problems absorbing their norms.
I have friends who are both mormons and catholic, it is endemic in their doctrines that righteous living is the ultimate goal.
RIGTHEOUS is terms of living the doctrines of Jesus Christ. Family values is the core of their belief, that is why they practice family home evenings every Mondays.
High schools kids are taught to stand firm against peer pressure and temptations and are advised to consistenty attend the seminary school at 6:30am every school days.
Now there is no religious group that I know that has this kind of discipline on kids.
This mormon faith and culture that has been inculcated on Mitt Romney is a testimony to his consistency and resolved. It shows in his character.
Sadly, it is hard to believed because it is out of norm in this day and age.

Com’on we both know that they who utter the phrase -”we are the party of fiscal conservatives, non judicial activists, and free enterprise” – have no idea what they are saying.
I refer you to the period of the early 1900s (perhaps even further, back to the great “robber baron” days), culminating in Oct 1929 of what a horrible thing unrestrained capitalism can be.
Capitalism is great – as long as it has some logical checks and balances.
I wont put ALL the blame on Bush’s shoulders. It was Clinton’s signature on a republican sponsored bill that repealed the Glass-Steagal act.
The removal of the regulations that prevented financial institutions from entering each others field was the start of the mortgage catastrophe.
However, you simply must admit that funding two insanely expensive wars had a bit to do with the size of the national debt.
Clinton left office with a bulging surplus, having worked bi-partisanly to balance social security, one of the hot political topics of the time.
Bush left office with the budget so far in the red, the country was trillions in debt and the banks were about to go bankrupt. Everyone in the country except the 1% who caused the catastrophe would have gone bankrupt.
And what to the ungrateful say after their bacon was saved. Obama didn’t do enough.
It is understandable that those who supported the party that caused the catastrophe would try to defend their party.
But the people who had their savings rescued. Go figure the ungrateful response.

I am so tired of hearing the lie given to the box of rocks for brains white boy so he can say “I am a fiscally conservative American that believes in free enterprise and the constitution.”

Gordon: Well Said!
I see no reason why we christians can’t support a man who is a Mormon. The time has come to get that baboon out of the White House.
Fortunately, a man of integrity, intelligence and business acumen to lead this country out of the mess that party of socialists has brought us to.

WOULD SNOOPING ENHANCE YOUR RELATIONSHIP?
The right to privacy is so integral to us here in America that it is written into our constitution… and yet our resident life coach, Lauren Zander, says that it may be destructive to intimacy in romantic relationships.
Now there’s a controversial position to take! I don’t expect everyone to be in total agreement with what she has to say on this particular topic, but I do think that she has some really interesting points to make that are, at the very least, worth thinking about if you want to achieve a deeper closeness with your significant other.
The very idea that someone else — even a loved one — might be “snooping” (a.k.a. looking at your e-mails, examining your credit card bills and reading your text messages) makes many people uncomfortable.
But Zander says it is, for the most part, a good thing!
There are some caveats to this — we’ll get to those in just a bit — but by and large, she believes that such “snooping,” when it’s done by mutual consent, can and will make your closest relationships stronger, happier and more resilient. You’ll talk more and fight less.
WHAT ARE YOUR DARKEST SECRETS?
According to Zander, people in intimate relationships often have secrets on a number of levels, for example, what they really think about their sex life together…
how they talk about the other to their friends… what they write in their journals about the relationship… how they spend money on private splurges… and more.
And that’s why, in many cases, their partners start to secretly poke into their affairs — they have the feeling that their partner isn’t being entirely honest with them and are worried about it.
“In many cases,” Zander told me, “people hide information from each other in a sincere attempt to keep the peace — but what they are, in fact, doing is setting the stage for trouble.”
Let’s step back for a minute and ask ourselves: Why do we think we need privacy in our most intimate relationships?
You know the answer — it’s because we don’t want to deal with the other person’s reaction if the private things were to become known.
And that’s exactly why Zander believes that “snooping” is productive and relationship-enhancing.
Zander points out that the real reason that people object to a partner’s snooping has nothing to do with “rights” — it is that there are some things that they want to hide simply because they don’t want to give them up.
These may be behaviors that aren’t necessarily destructive or evil but that nevertheless may rock the boat.
Examples include a woman who is hiding her designer-shoe habit… a man who regularly visits “adult sites” online… or engaging (men and women equally!) in Facebook flirtations.
And then sometimes, of course, discoveries can be really disturbing, such as if you find out that your partner is actually having an affair.
LIVING IN TRUTH
Whether big or little, all secrets and lies create dysfunction in a relationship, and it is only through truth that the partners can start to meaningfully negotiate their differences.
Allowing your partner to have access to the real truth about who you are and what you do forces the two of you to talk about your desires, hopes and dreams and, yes, your unmet needs as well.
That’s a good thing for a couple, because then you can start figuring out how to meet them. Once you are doing that, the possibility of living a happy life together is within your reach.
And that’s why Zander encourages couples to make a mutual decision that from now on there is no hiding, including e-mails, text messages, credit card bills or anything else.
She sums it up as “committing to living in a way that it doesn’t matter if your partner snoops, because you have nothing to hide.”
For snooping to be the kind that Zander supports, it must be open snooping — in other words, all parties have to know it is going on.
“When the CIA snoops, we call it ‘gathering intelligence,’” she says, “and everyone knows that is what our spies are doing.
Good personal snooping is also gathering intelligence, but it concerns people who are important in your life.”

You can see examples of government’s without any safety nets for their citizens all across the world; start with the third world countries, where the line between the ‘have’ and ‘have-not’s is a huge gaping chasm.

Craig:
I’ve grown weary of reading comment after comment from people like you insulting and disrespecting our President and the Democratic Party.
I believe President Obama has done a remarkable job considering that the Republicans have tried to block his proposals every step of the way.
I have complete confidence in President Obama and I proudly support his re-election.
Remember we were losing over 700,000 jobs a month under the Bush policies. Now,we’ve had 22 straight months of private sector job growth.
Yes, he is a black man, I am an asian, so what?

Craig, Ditto!!!!!!!
Mitt has been vetted by both republicans and democrats for decades now. We know more about him than we did about Obama. And while not perfect, he comes with some tools learned in practice and some mistakes.
Obama comes with a heritage of drugs, pimping and chasing white women.
The choice is clear. The mandate – We are taking our country back – will be realized.

We will TAKE our country back and Mitt is just the man to take on that spade in any debate.
Mitt himself said if you think the primaries are tough just wait for Obama and the Chicago politics. It should be interesting. But it is time for someone who knows what they are doing to be in charge.
I for one will commit every dime I can spare to help Mitt combat the money that that coon will use to debase an honorable christian man like Romney.

I wish that Obama would start charging those crooks with real crimes and have them thrown in jail.
Don’t we have laws against what the did and what they tried to do?

Mormons believe that Jesus was an angel! (See Hebrews chapter 1 for how much garbage that idea is) and they think Jesus was the brother of Satan!
So…no thanks – I think I’ll pass on his moral advice. lol
January 11th, 2012 at 9:26 am
Arichita, good luck bringing up charges against them. Corporations are rich white people. No rich white man has been found guilty (except Bernie Madoff, but he was just a scapegoat, and was the only person so far to be found guilty in this whole debacle.)
January 11th, 2012 at 9:31 am
Archita, that will never happen. Those people have bought and paid for the support of the republican party.
“Over the last four decades, the Republican Party has transformed from a loyal opposition into an insurrectionary party that flouts the law when it is in the majority and threatens disorder when it is the minority.
It is the party of Watergate and Iran-Contra, but also of the government shutdown in 1995 and the impeachment trial of 1999.
If there is an earlier American precedent for today’s Republican Party, it is the antebellum Southern Democrats of John Calhoun who threatened to nullify, or disregard, federal legislation they objected to and who later led the fight to secede from the union over slavery.”
Don’t expect the federal judges they have appointed to be non partisan. They are bought and paid for too.
Witness the brazen way Scalia entered the fray and appointed Bush the president of the USA.

Almost every post today that supports Romney also includes a racial slur. Romney is a RACIST and a puppet for the 1%ers, that is reason enough that there be no place in American politics for him. Even those who support this LSOS are RACSISTS.
Romney is not fit to go near that oval office. Much less try to run this country.
