California Rules!
Posted by Michelle Moquin on January 28th, 2012
Good morning!
FYI: If you haven’t already heard.
Subject: CA Traffic Tickets Effective January 6, 2012
CALIFORNIANS: BE VERY CAREFUL OUT THERE!
THE LOS ANGELES TIMES HAS AN ARTICLE ON THE SUBJECT: “FLOORING IT ON CAR FINES”.
PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES !
Subject: Important Notice: HUGE California Traffic Tickets Fines Effective 01/06/2012
Please be extremely careful in your driving and car registration & insurance matters. State of California is broke and they are trying hard to squeeze all of us hard to collect money. Effective immediately, if you do not stop at the red light, be ready to pay $436 in fines or if you pass a school bus with flashing red signals, you will be charged $616. The state of California is going for blood, so be extra careful in driving, You cannot afford messing with them. I have been hearing that Highway Patrols are under pressure to issue a lot more tickets than last year with at least 30% increase in fines over 2009, so beware of radar guns, highway and traffic cameras installed everywhere and the tougher enforcement of parking rules.
Just for your info, the next time you park in the handicapped zone, even for a minute, you will be looking at almost $ 1000 in parking tickets, so it’d better be worth it.
California needs money, so pay close attention to the rules of the road!

Hi Michelle: I was browsing through a hot rod magazine, car & driver or something. Saw an add for a spray on product that when sprayed on a license plate, is supposed to make them unreadable by cameras, it is a new product and I have no idea if it works. Best to drive carefully, but who wants to pay a ticket you don’t remember getting?
Budgets won’t be balanced by fining people into the poorhouse. Those 1%ers have us all by the short hairs. Oh well, what can one do? Fines are high all over as is everything else. For some, one ticket and it’s peanutbutter and jelly sanwiches for a month.

It’s Sunday and I don’t really want to cause controversy on the subject, though it stuck with me that someone here claimed men were dawgs and women could be held to a higher standard, hmm, while that may be true and vis a vis content of this article I would agree that women sometimes do dawgish things for more personal and psychological reasons, it’s just true – women can have dawgish qualities (and the net result is same same, they’ve inserted themselves into a situation that’s subpar) and when someone forwarded this article to me I thought…wow, I have known women like this, my reason for posting it today is if it can help one woman out there identify what she might be doing to herself/her own psyche not to mention undermining other women in the process, well…I can’t change the world on my own though assisting anyone with self awareness is good, no? And it’s always a good thing to see things from another perspective. Things are not always black and white, there are many shades of gray.

…and, if you don’t like the content of the article, you can shoot the messenger if you like, I’m always open to taking heat ; )
Have a lovely Sunday, Luv, Zen Lill

CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D: CODEPENDENT SUPPLEMENTS
If you want to keep your bones healthy as you age, it’s important to be sure that you are getting vitamin D and calcium in adequate amounts — both, not one or the other.
Each has important health benefits on its own, while together these two are like “team health” for older adults. Since the US Department of Agriculture has just published new research highlighting how important it is to get sufficient calcium and vitamin D, I decided to revisit these two vital nutrients with nutrition expert Andrew L. Rubman, ND.
CALCIUM + D = STRONG BONES
More than 25 million adults (men and women) in the US either already have or are at risk for osteoporosis. It’s common to equate osteoporosis with inadequate calcium, but according to Dr. Rubman, inadequate vitamin D is a far more pervasive threat.
Here’s why:
When calcium levels fall, the body activates vitamin D. It gets sent to the gut to encourage better calcium absorption and to the kidneys to limit calcium loss in urine. Without enough of it, bones grow thin and brittle.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
This is why getting calcium alone isn’t the answer to bone health — you must also get enough vitamin D. You can get it from foods (salmon, tuna, mackerel, fish liver oils, D-fortified foods such as milk, orange juice and breakfast cereals), and your body can synthesize it from 10 to 15 minutes of daily sun exposure.
But the body’s ability to manufacture vitamin D diminishes with age, and most Americans are short on it, so Dr. Rubman prescribes up to 2,000 IU daily of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) to many patients.
Note: The current government-recommended intake is only 400 IU daily for adults age 51 to 70 — but experts agree that this is too low, and there are plans to raise it.
In the meantime, Dr. Rubman suggests asking your doctor to test your D3 level to see if you are deficient — especially important for seniors, he notes, as well as all people who may not be spending much time in the sun.
To get enough calcium: The official recommended calcium intake for American adults age 50 and older is 1,200 mg daily, and this is generally sufficient if your body is absorbing it properly.
However, insufficient stomach acid due to aging or stress or, worse, the persistent use of acid-blocking medications, can impede this process.
A supplement is one option, but perhaps not necessary — most people can get sufficient calcium from dietary sources. Cow’s milk, even though it contains 300 mg of calcium per cup, is not necessarily the best choice since it is tough for many people to digest fully.
Here are some good dietary sources: One cup of goat’s milk contains 325 mg of calcium… a cup of collard greens 350 mg… three ounces of canned salmon 180 mg… and a cup of boiled black-eyed peas 210 mg. That’s practically a day’s worth of calcium right there!
Getting sufficient amounts of these vital nutrients isn’t hard — and it is vitally important. Remember — when it comes to bone health, calcium and vitamin D need each other to deliver the benefit.

Japan has become for the first time a nation that imported more than it exported.
Why? It could be because it is a male dominated country that refuses to allow more than one half of its population, females to participate in the intellectual operation of Japan.
