More On Romney…

…thanks to Rachel Maddow’s Blog.
Good morning!
The most inexperienced candidate in generations
Speaking at the national NRA convention recently, Mitt Romney made a curious boast. “I am running for president because I have the experience and the vision to lead us in a different direction,” he said. Later in the same speech, Romney added, “I am running for president because I have the experience and vision to get us out of this mess.”
Of all the qualifications to emphasize, “experience” seems like an odd characteristic for Romney to brag about. Whether or not the presumptive Republican nominee offers a compelling “vision” remains to be seen — at this point, he tends to stick to vague generalities, as part of a deliberate strategy – but experience is a quantifiable quality.
And it doesn’t appear to be Romney’s strong point.
In fact, I counted up the years of experience in public office or active-duty military service for all of the recent major-party nominees, and discovered something interesting: Romney has less experience in public service than any modern presidential candidate. Here’s a chart (click for a bigger version) I put together on the subject:
To clarify a few details that may not be obvious in the image, purple reflects active-duty military service; red reflects a role as a state executive (governor, lieutenant governor, or state attorney general); green reflects serving as a mayor; gray reflects serving in a state legislature; light blue reflects serving in the U.S. Congress; orange reflects serving in a presidential Cabinet or in a cabinet-level position (H.W. Bush led the CIA, for example); and dark blue reflects serving as either president or vice president.
Also, for the purpose of this examination, I only counted experience that the candidates had at the time of their election. So with Barry Goldwater, for example, he’d been in the U.S. Senate for 12 years when he won the Republican presidential nomination in 1964, though after his defeat, he served additional terms in the chamber. Only the service at the time of the presidential race is included in this analysis.
And using this metric, Romney has only four years under his belt. He served one term as the governor of Massachusetts — and that’s it. This makes Romney the least experienced major-party presidential nominee since Republican Wendell Wilkie lost to FDR in 1940. If Romney wins, he’ll be the least experienced president since Woodrow Wilson, who won exactly 100 years ago, despite only having been governor of New Jersey for two years before his national campaign.
It’s worth pausing to consider whether this matters.
By my count, if elected, Romney would be the third least-experienced president in American history, trailing every chief executive except Wilson and Grover Cleveland, who was mayor of Buffalo for one year and the governor of New York for two years before getting elected president 128 years ago. Every other president had served more than four years in the military and/or public office at the time of their election.
For Romney, this may be considered a selling point. Though he hasn’t really been pressed on his lack of experience thus far, it’s easy to imagine the former one-term governor arguing that his limited resume, at least in public service, makes him an “outsider.” Since voters have been conditioned to look askance at “professional politicians,” Romney’s limited governmental background may well be perceived as a plus.
That, however, raises the question of why politics is the only profession in which inexperience is something to brag about. When passengers get on airplane, do they think, “I really hope this pilot is a rookie”? When patients go the hospital, do they say to themselves, “I prefer to see physician who hasn’t practiced medicine for very long”?
This at least seems worthy of some larger discussion. Romney has less experience in public service than any major-party presidential nominee in 72 years. When evaluating the candidates in 2012, it’s not unreasonable to think this should be in the mix.

Food that Goes Straight to Your Brain
Some foods (hello, potato chips!) seem to go straight to our bellies and butts, which is a bummer. But the good news is that others go straight to our brains and give us a cognitive boost.
A study published this past January in Neurology shows that people who eat certain foods are more likely to have larger and smarter brains.
And the best part—this brain boost was found in older folks in their 70s, 80s and beyond. Good news for them…and good news for anyone who hopes to get that old one day!
Which are the foods and their associated nutrients that make our brains bigger and smarter as we age?
MEALS FOR THE MIND
Instead of relying on study participants to self-report their food intake (which, of course, is not an exact measure).
The researchers used a blood test that showed how much of certain foods each of the 104 healthy male and female study participants (average age 87) was eating.
Diets can, of course, change over time, but the blood test gave researchers a ballpark idea of what each subject generally ate. They did not preselect the study participants based on their diets.
Then the researchers gave 42 of the participants brain scans and 12 cognitive tests to all of them to see whether certain diets were associated with improved mental performance.
One test checked memory by asking people to recall a paragraph after a delay, and others measured executive function (decision-making, planning, flexibility) by having people connect numbers and letters in a certain sequence as quickly as possible.
Researchers also collected brain scans to see whether the diet differences were associated with physical differences in the brain.
Here’s what the research revealed…
What helped the brain: A high concentration in the blood of vitamins B, C, D, and E and omega-3 fatty acids was associated with better executive function, attention and visual and spatial skills.
And participants with the best memory skills were more likely to have higher levels of HDL “good” cholesterol…as well as higher levels of two antioxidants—lutein and zeaxanthin.
What hurt the brain: On the other hand, participants with the highest levels of trans fat in their blood had more “brain fog” and smaller brains than other participants.
How wonderful that simply changing your diet might buttress your brain power. To find out why these particular nutrients may have helped or hurt, I called study coauthor Gene Bowman, ND, MPH, an epidemiologist in the department of neurology at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.
PROTECTING YOUR CELL MEMBRANES
In terms of what helped, some of the nutrients listed above may protect the outer walls of the brain’s cell membranes, he said, allowing the machinery in the cell to keep working properly.
Meanwhile, one of the ways that trans fats harm us is that they take the place of the “good” fats in our cell membranes, and that change may lead to deterioration of the cells’ structure.
Of course, it isn’t news that our bodies need vitamins and antioxidants or that trans fats are bad for us. But when research is able to make such a direct link between what we eat and how well certain parts of our bodies function—
well, that is the kind of information that makes it much easier for me to say “no thanks” to processed foods and “hello” to foods like three-pepper sauté, kiwi-berry fruit salsa, poached salmon and macadamia “crème fraiche.”
I can now easily imagine the nutrients from these foods speeding to my brain cells and keeping them strong. You, too?

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and a happy Monday to you all. Our cover story this week is Audrey’s look into the latest Big Government overreach. They’ve got plans to ruin your summer vacation. Whether you want to head to the Outer Banks, horseback ride through the great California forests, or fish in Biscayne Bay, there will be unnecessary red tape and layers of bureaucracy to keep you from having all the fun and excitement you and your family are craving this summer. Her story is below.
Also — David’s report from Capitol Hill takes a look at some of the specifics in Paul Ryan’s budget proposal. From food stamps to larger contributions in pensions, the Budget Committee chairman has a plan for the future, much to the chagrin of Democrats on the Hill. And, Hope’s story this week for our issue deals with the Air Force National Guard cuts and how many lawmakers are trying to stave off the reductions that they argue will ruin much of the local economies in their districts.
From around the web, a look at some of the takeaways from the Orrin Hatch race in Utah, the GOP’s plans to get Yucca Mountain back in the energy discussion, and a piece on Paul Ryan’s budget plan and how it jives with Catholic teaching.
Before I go, John has previewed Pennsylvania¹s Senate and House primaries. Take a look. Have a great day.

I don’t know if Jon Huntsman would make a good Democrat, being anti-choice and having endorsed the Ryan budget plan, but if he were the GOP candidate, he would actually have a chance of beating President Obama in November.
Huntsman is smart, knows how to govern, knows domestic policy, knows foreign policy, has proven that he can work with Democrats (he was, after all, Obama’s Ambarassdor to China) and as he himself said, he “actually believe[s] in science.” Leave it to the GOP to somehow find fault with a candidate who is fluent in Mandarin!
April 23rd, 2012 at 9:09 pm
I actually think huntsman is an employee of obamas propaganda minister axlerod. He always has been. its obvious to republicans and independents…and all those democrats on here that say they would have voted for him…You better believe it….because huntsman is a democrat.
Republicans…and especially the RNC wanted nothing to do with this man…Why ?…because the RNC thought he was planted by axlerod and obama to begin with. ….They don’t call huntsman the “manchurian candidate” for nothing.

The Taiwan spies in China have begun acting on the intelligence they picked up from a decipher discovered by China in 2010.
Taiwan will increase its presence on Guam a thousandfold. Any action necessary to prevent the competition between the two nations from interfering with the peace and tranquility of the Princess will be tolerated by all.
Err in the favor of the Princess.

I’m not too familiar with what Mormons practice but I do know that they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I did know even know that they had a temple in addition to a chapel. It definitely allowed me to think of Mormons even more positively. God bless!

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a Mormon) I do believe in Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is another testament that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.
I know that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and it clarifies the myriads of interpretations of the Bible and makes the meaning of Bible passages more clear.
As one who was a member, left to search out other faiths and religions and then came back of my own accord, there is no other place where the leaders of the Church bear a more powerful witness of Jesus Christ and where the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost brings peace, comfort and strength to do God’s will.
April 23rd, 2012 at 10:02 pm
There are so many other problems that affect ALL of us that my one and only question is why bother to give more fuel to the fire and continue to divide the country along Religion?
If you are a mormon, why announce it? same for any other religion, I want to know what you are going to do to make this a better place for all of us to get along.
April 23rd, 2012 at 10:10 pm
I hope you are not offended when I say that the reason we (Christians/Mormons) talk about Jesus, His Church and His Gospel (His teaching of God) is to let all people know that “true religion” unites and strengthens families, communities and ultimately nations.
The problems in our communities are too often fuelled by greed and selfishness rather than by those living as Jesus Christ would have us live.
It’s good that you want to know what faithful Christians are doing to make the world a better place! However, don’t just ask us. This question should be put to all man and woman, young and old (Muslins, Hindus, Jews, atheists…)
In the Bible Jesus taught:”by their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:16) So go and ask and if they are serious about what they believe they should have no problems in telling you.
If you are interested to know what members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) are doing in your community and abroad go to lds.org or Mormon.org

Comments 7 – 9 are republican spin doctors at work trying to make us accept that cult mormonism as a sort of spinoff christian religion.
Bullshit. Have you ever read the incredible craft in that book they call the bible. Alien gods on distant planets. The men get to be gods with an entire planet of women to fuck and impregnate at their leisure.
The only difference between them and the 75 virgins allah promises the muslimis the number and what they have to do to get them.
It is amazing what that now that the religion of their white candidate is in question we are suddenly being told that religion shouldn’t matter. Tell that to Rev. Wright you hypocrites.

You have no right to dictate how, where or when one expresses their beliefs; whether they be of divine or earthly origin, all people have the right to express themselves, given that expression does not cause harm to another.
If you knew anything about the LDS church, you would know all of the good it has done and continues to do out in the world. Katrina, SE Asia, Africa: these are all instances where the lds church has been heavily involved in, to name a few.
And that’s just the LDS. So many other people and groups of faith have done so much good in this world, that it still shocks me to no end to hear people like you making ignorant comments to the contrary.
Though, I shouldn’t be too surprised. Unlike governments or corporate philanthropy, religious charity rarely draws attention to itself outside the local area it is serving.
Please educate yourself before making ignorant comments about some perceived lack of religious-based good that is being done in the world.

Why is Mormonism a non-Christian religion?
It is not Christian because it denies that there is only one God, denies the true Gospel, adds works to salvation, denies that Jesus is the uncreated creator, distorts the biblical teaching of the atonement, and undermines the authority and reliability of the Bible.
I do not deny that Mormons are good people, that they worship “a” god, that they share common words with Christians, that they help their people, and that they do many good things.
But that isn’t what makes someone Christian.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23, ” Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (NKJV).
Becoming a Christian does not mean belonging to a church, doing good things, or simply believing in God.
Being a Christian means that you have trusted in the true God for salvation, in the True Jesus — not the brother of the devil, not the god of Mormonism, not the gospel of Mormonism.
Mormonism is false and cannot save anyone.
April 23rd, 2012 at 10:19 pm
Mormonism is just a creation by a couple of horny pedophiles who convinced a bunch of dumb as dirt white women to submit to being fucked in a herd like cows.
Today they follow the rule of most white crooks who steal huge sums then donate a bit to charity to gain respectability.
Jim Jones did some good, but his bullshit church was still a bastion of cult practices. The only difference between that and the mormons is the amount of money amassed by the crooks.

All Christian faiths have different doctrines. The core doctrine, belief and faith to distinguish and identify a Christian is whether the person believes that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer.
As the Apostle Paul said, we are saved by the grace of Jesus Christ who alone atoned for our sins. Salvation is only in and through Chrsit. As a Mormon, I join all who believe this.
April 23rd, 2012 at 10:26 pm
As one would suspect, NG you are quoting a man, Paul, who didn’t actually know Jesus.
That would be appropriate sense the bullshit artist that wrote you book of bullshit, er mormon, didn’t know Jesus either.
If he did he would have known that he didn’t come from the planet grub or something close to it. Nor would he have been one of the offspring of the white males fucking ignorant white women on distant planets waiting to be sent to Utah to form a white jew race no longer jews because HELLO god wanted to be White this time.
Take that racist white wannabe a god and shove it.

Mormonism states that salvation is twofold. It maintains that salvation is both forgiveness of sins and universal resurrection.
So when a Mormon speaks of salvation by grace, he is usually referring to universal resurrection. But the Bible speaks of salvation as the forgiveness of sins, not simple universal resurrection.
Where Mormonism states that forgiveness of sins is not by faith alone, the Bible does teach it is by faith alone. Which is correct? Obviously, it is the Bible.
In order to justify its aberrant theology, Mormonism has undermined the authority and trustworthiness of the Bible.
The 8th article of faith from the Mormon Church states, “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.”
This means that when the Bible contradicts Mormonism, the Bible isn’t trustworthy.
The interesting thing is that Joseph Smith allegedly corrected the Bible in what is called The Inspired Version, though it is not used by the LDS church.
Though they claim they trust the Bible, in reality they do not.
They use Mormon presuppositions to interpret it instead of letting it speak for itself.
For example, where the Bible says there are no other gods in the universe (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8), they interpret it to mean “no other gods of this world” – which is not what those verses say.
They do not trust the Bible and they often state that the Bible is not translated correctly.

All we are learning is that race is all that matters to most of white america. If jesus came back tomorrow and he was accompanied by a blond white devil, you can obviously see that white america would line up behind the devil.
They would do the requisite mental gymnastics they are doing now to accept the mormon cult candidate over the Christian candidate because he is white to accept the devil over Jesus Christ because he was white.
Their motto is “Get Thee behind me Lord if your ass is not white.”

Mormonism teaches that the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross itself (and receiving it by faith) is not sufficient to bring forgiveness of sins.
Mormonism teaches that the forgiveness of sins requires both the will of the leaders of the church of Latter Day Saints as well as the will of God, that is, we must be good and follow the laws and ordinances of the Mormon church in order to obtain forgiveness.
Consider James Talmage, a very important Mormon figure who said, “The sectarian dogma of justification by faith alone has exercised an influence for evil,” (Articles, p. 432), and “Hence the justice of the scriptural doctrine that salvation comes to the individual only through obedience,” (Articles, p. 81).
This clearly contradicts the biblical doctrine of the forgiveness of sins by grace through faith (Rom. 5:1; 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9) and the doctrine that works are not part of our salvation but a result of them (Rom. 4:5, James 2:14-18).
The leaders of the Mormon church have raised themselves equal to God. They have succeeded on earth where Satan failed in heaven to become equal to God.
All it took was a manufactured script by Joseph Smith. As Muhammad proved when he needed an army to stand and fight the genocidal crusaders, all it takes to get a man to sacrifice everything in the name of a god, is to declare that that god has given him total control over all the pussy he brings into the religion.
Apparently, it is the desires of his little that is being worshiped by man when he kneels before his god, or tiny penis.

Personally, I am tired of reading post from you people declaring how “The vast majority of Mormons I’ve met have been excellent people, worthy of praise and respect.”
Fuck, one hears the same thing said of ever serial killer ever caught. Hell we heard the same thing of Jim Jones and many other crazy cult practitioners.
Are we supposed to believe these cult practitioners are going to get recruits and acceptance by acting out their evil in public view?
So just get on with the propaganda you are pushing and leave off how nice the fucking mormons are.

As in all groups, there are also some who were not polite nor kind, good people. As in every denomination, good and bad exist in all. My impression of the HQ location was simply great.
Members were extremely polite and courteous and also perfectly, neatly dressed. I’ve admired their sense of work ethics and their commitment to polite and generous acceptance of my visit.
I have absolutely no problem with a Mormon President. I just wish the lead Presidential candidate was Huntsman, rather than Romney…

Me thinks you don’t know zip about Mormonism other than what they tell you. Most folks know nothing about it. Even Mormons don’t know the full story till they get in so deep.
Reminds me of Free Masons in that the person entering has no idea the depths of darkness they go to till they have made it to the 13th degree. After that they are in too deep. Few break out after that. Same with the Mormons.
I am not commenting on the PEOPLE but the RELIGION, before I get the usual mindless comments.
Research things people. Don’t just open up and swallow!

Mormons reject the doctrine of the Trinity as a 4th-century distortion of the original doctrine taught in the Bible, that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are three separate and distinct personages.
Acts 1:11
“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
Jesus ascended to heaven as a separate and distinct personage, and he will return in the same form. According to the Trinity, what happened to him in between, to smear his molecules across the universe? This is a false doctrine. The fact that it has been embraced in various forms by Christian sects for some 1700 years does not make it true.
Anyone who believes in the Trinity must deny the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. The two are incompatible.
April 23rd, 2012 at 11:05 pm
Sorry KK the only two things incompatible here are the teachings of the book of mormon and the Holy Bible.
It just means you don’t understand. Why don’t you just state the fact that your church is not Christian. It’s okay now.
April 23rd, 2012 at 11:19 pm
Mormonism teaches that God the Father has a body of flesh and bones (D. & C. 130:22) and that Jesus is a creation. It teaches that he was begotten in heaven as merely ONE of God’s spirit children (See the Book, Jesus the Christ, by James Talmage, p. 8).
This is in strict contrast to the biblical teaching that he is God in flesh (John 1:1, 14), eternal (John 1:1, 2, 15), uncreated, yet born on earth (Col. 1:15), and the creator all (John 1:3; Col. 1:16-17).
Jesus cannot be both created and not created at the same time.
Though Mormonism teaches that Jesus is God in flesh, it teaches that he is “a” god in flesh, one of three gods that comprise the office of the Trinity (Articles of Faith, by Talmage, pp. 35-40).
These three gods are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. This is in direct contradiction of the biblical doctrine that there is only one God (Isaiah 44:6,8; 45:5).
See Trinity for a correct discussion of what the Trinity is (see also, false trinity)
Because Mormonism denies the biblical truth of who God is, who Jesus is, how forgiveness of sins is attained, and what the gospel is, the Mormon is not Christian — in spite of all his claims that he is Christian.
Quite simply, for the Mormon the god as Christians know Him doesn’t exist. They believe that they can die and become gods.
They believe that they will inherit planets in space that will be populated by “willing”(because they will have no choice) women who will be “willing” to bear children by the only man on that planet for as long as he can keep his dick up.
Some of the little boy bastards(the females are just packed into the rest of the females to be fucked later –white men evidently don’t have a problem fucking their daughters or granddaughters to produce more children because they did it for over 100 years while raping their female slave daughters, grand daughters, nieces, and every other female combination imaginable.
It is no problem for this breed of subhuman to practice all kinds of incest and pedophilia. Using religion rather than force is just a new twist. Mormonism is accepted and tolerated by the rest of us because the this subhuman species is presently in control of the country.
But one day it will be viewed as a cult and shut down. Trying to validate the practice of mormonism by getting one of its practitioners elected to the highest office in the land will not slow that day down.

I’m always amazed at comments like this. You’ve spent a lot of time studying something, trying to attack it. But the verses you quote and the arguments you make are all from your interpretation and dogma.
Why is your interpretation of the interpretation of Christianity more valid than mine?
As a practicing Mormon, I know I’m a Christian, because I believe in Jesus Christ, and know that through his grace I will be saved, both physically and spiritually.
I don’t really want to debate the finer points of your posts, because it would only be in a spirit of a contention, and contention is of the devil. I just hope that you are as content with your beliefs as I am with mine.
April 23rd, 2012 at 11:24 pm
This is in response to the person’s comment asking how Mormonism is NOT Christian.
The reason Mormonism is not Christian is because it denies one or more of the essential doctrines of Christianity.
Of the essential doctrines (that there is only one God in all existence, Jesus is divine, God in flesh, forgiveness of sins is by grace alone (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 4:1-5), and Jesus rose from the dead physically (1 John 2:19; Luke 24:39), the gospel being the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, 1 Cor. 15:1-4),
Mormonism denies three of them: how many gods there are, the God of Christianity, and His work of salvation.
April 23rd, 2012 at 11:26 pm
JR, it is you and your church who are the spirit of contention. Your church does not believe in the Jesus of the New Testament.
Your former prophet, Gordon Hinckley, and an apostle of the church both said to THE LDS HAVE A DIFFERENT JESUS?
Who is Jesus Christ of the LDS? President Gordon B. Hinckley clarified, “[Many] have said we are not Christians.
‘Mormons are not Christians,’ they say; they do not believe in the traditional Christ. No, I don’t. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak” (Church News, January, 1999; also June 20, p.7). A different Christ!
LDS Apostle Bruce McConkie taught that Christians have “a mythical Christ” (Mormon Doctrine, p.269). That means we must decide which faith has the real Christ because somebody clearly has a mythical Christ.
Do these faiths have the same Jesus? No, if you read the LDS Ensign. It says Christian Churches worship a different Jesus (May 1977, p.26). http://saintsalive.com/resourcelibrary/mormonism/does-the-lds-church-have-a-different-jesus””hat you have a different Jesus.
Here’s a video of Gordon Hinckley saying it.
