History Retweeted

Good morning!

Well, as usual, my readers are always so on top of the latest. I too am so delighted over Obama’s support of gay marriage.  And since this news is so huge, I couldn’t help but blog about it today.

Obama has made history in perhaps more ways than one. And in this modern world, there are so many more ways to get the word out. People were so excited, the “tweeting” of this historic moment may also have made history in the Twitter world.

Did Obama’s same-sex marriage tweet break Twitter records?

To say that President Obama’s announcement of support for gay marriage yesterday was historic is something of an understatement. But it appears that it didn’t just make history in the fight for gay rights — it may have also made Twitter history as one of the most retweeted messages of all time, as well.

Twitter’s interface only shows exact retweet numbers up to a total of 50, referring to all totals higher as “50+.” But thanks to self-proclaimed hacker Michael Schonfeld, we know exactly how many times the Obama message has been retweeted. According to retweetingobama.com, a site that uses the Twitter API to generate an exact total of the number of retweets Obama’s historic announcement received, it has been shared over 56,726 times in the last 24 hours… and counting.

The most retweeted comment of all time appears to be a June 2011 tweet from restaurant chain Wendy’s, which offered 50 cents to charity for each time someone clicked to send the message off to their friends. There are no official numbers offered by Twitter, but the retweet count is well over 100,000.

That Wendy’s tweet, however, was “sponsored” — meaning that the Wendy’s Corporation paid to have it appear in all users’ Twitter streams. President Obama’s tweet was not sponsored, meaning that it had to go viral organically, without paid assistance.

Twitter has yet to confirm whether or not President Obama’s tweet is indeed the most retweeted, non-sponsored tweet of all time, but there is plenty of evidence in his favor. And if it isn’t yet, given that people are still feverishly hitting that “retweet” button, it may just be a matter of time until it is.

*******

Readers: Congratulations to all of the gays and lesbians for being recognized by our president.

Thoughts? Blog me.

Peace & Love to all…

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. Good morning everybody.

    Annie – you left out crucial info, the book says OJ’s oldest son killed Nicole and Ron.

    Leslie – Who are you? I don’t know you. I have no idea what meets you are talking about. Please don’t misrepresent here.

    ZL – re your comment, Jesus the original hippie – I just wanted to add, Remember Jesus rode a donkey, not an elephant!

    and to OBAMA – LOVE YOU!! You are the smartest president we’ve ever had.

    He’s got the gay dough pouring in after his announcement on support for gay marriage – more than $1 million with in 90 minutes of his endorsement of gay marriage being tweeted – and reportedly breaking records with the most money ever raised for a single presidential election event – $15 million! The event held at actor George Clooney’s house is being coined Starmaggedon! LOL

    The Washington Post noted on Tuesday that roughly 20 percent of Obama top campaign bundlers—who are responsible for arranging $500,000 and up—“publicly identified themselves as gay.” June 6th could be another big coffer filler when he’s down in LA for a LGBT event at $25K per couple. People are ready to start donating, big time: “Lance Black, an Academy Award-winning screenwriter based in Los Angeles, penned a column in the Hollywood Reporter last month saying he would not contribute to or vote for Obama and urged other gay activists to withhold support as well. Obama’s statement Wednesday changed his mind, Black said. Now I can do all I can to help him financially. I am going to go big, and I’m not alone there,” Black said. “He blew me away (Wednesday). I walked around for the first time in three years thinking, `Yes we can.”‘

    YES WE CAN!

    O = Opportunity
    B = Benefits and
    A = Advances for
    M = Middle class
    A – Americans

    Now, if only Mr. Biden would decide to retire and gracefully bow out of politics, step aside like a gentleman and endorse Hillary Clinton for VP! An undefeatable team! Hey, a girl can dream, right? :)

    Enjoy your weekend all!

    /SB

  2. Leslie Says:

    I know you. And I may introduce myself if you stop being so prissy. Hint, I’m blond about two inches taller than you and I know about you than you think.

    Oh, and I did not see you at least twice where i usually expect to see you.

  3. Social Butterfly Says:

    “Dinner With Barack”

    There’s two sweepstakes going on for Obama’s Campaign.

    Dinner with Barack
    You have to enter by June 30, 2012. Three winners selected, 2 tickets each, airfare, etc.

    You are automatically entered if you make a political contribution to his campaign, here: http://www.barackobama.com/dinner-with-barack

    You can enter here without contributing (but I hope you’ll reconsider and support Our President for re-election) https://my.barackobama.com/page/s/om-dinner-with-barack-june-alt

    The rules are here:
    http://www.barackobama.com/dinner-with-barack-june/rules

  4. Social Butterfly Says:

    The second event is actually over (hehe) it ended April 30th, but it awarded dinner with Clooney and Obama at this past record breaking fundraiser. Here’s the info I found on someone that won:
    http://obamafoodorama.blogspot.com/2012/05/and-winners-of-obama-clooney-you-dinner.html

    Sweepstakes have been with Obama for a while,as NPR covered, http://www.npr.org/2012/05/10/152419031/obama-lures-donors-with-a-hollywood-sweepstakes. its smart marketing. I know I would like to have dinner with the President; I can’t imagine who wouldn’t.

  5. Social Butterfly Says:

    Leslie,

    “You know more about me than I think” and “you didnt not see me at least twice where you expected to see me?” — that’s creepy.
    Are you stalking me?

    /SB

  6. Zen Lill Says:

    HI Mischa, enjoy your day with your mother, mine is too far away and we just aren’t that close, boo, but my girl and I are creating quite the opposite relationship so I’ll be out of here soon mself.

    /SB,
    whatever Jesus was riding, his point and message was missed on his zealots. It reminds of training my pup (14 yrs ole tomorrow) I would point my finger after throwing a ball and she’s stand there staring at the point of my fingertip. I had to spend time getting her to connect with the actual ball and then create the need to fetch it…same with religion, most are missing JC (or any other gods) point, too bad, we could use more love in this world.

    RE: Leslie/’stalkers’ – mine from last year made contact again, so I went and met her, turns out she’s just a huge fan and was going about things all the wrong ways and for all the wrong reasons. Turned out fine…I never judge why people do what they do, only their intention, secret or otherwise…

    Have a great day and water will be supplied, as much as I can contribute.

    Luv, Zen Lill
