Saturday Afternoon Check In
Posted by Michelle Moquin on May 19th, 2012
Good afternoon!
I am sorry that this is such a late post. I was able to begin my blog write for the day, but not able to finish it. My blog shut down around 8:30 AM. I had tried until 9:30 AM to get back on but had no success. And unfortunately what I had thought I had saved was obviously not saved, because when I logged on upon my return at 5:07, the only part of my blog post, was a comment that I made to Peter.
I think in light of what Anonz wrote, my gut is, my blog was shut down this morning. I could be wrong but it is rare that I can’t get on. And then I ran out of time and had to leave to attend my grandmother’s funeral, and celebration. Hence I did not have access to the internet nor a way to finish today’s write. And, from the time stamp of the last comment from this morning on yesterday’s blog post, it seems that no one else was able to get in as well.
That being said, since it is so late in the day, I am just going to end it here and HOPE that after I publish, it will be possible for you to post your comments on whatever is on your mind.
:)
Peter: Thank you. It’s always nice to see you here. HOPE is good but I agree with you, I too wish Guam had a voice in the voting process, and a clean sweep and a toss in the garbage can is my plan. I HOPE there are many others who are with me.
That’s it for me. Blog me.
Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.
Gratefully your blog host,
michelle

When will the people of Mexico stand up and say enough is enough?
Where are the demonstrations in the streets to end the violence?
The people of Mexico can be blamed for going along with the political, police and business corruption and not banding together to demand change.
Where are the next generation of leaders in Mexico? Have they all decided it was just easier to leave than to change their own country?
The people of Tunisia, Egypt and Libya all stood up and demanded change and changed their countries. When will the people of Mexico end the corruption in Mexico?

Natural Ways to Repel Mosquitoes and Ticks
This year, most parts of the US have had a mild winter, and that means an early start to mosquito and tick season.
For protection, about one-third of Americans rely each year on the chemical N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide, better known as DEET. But prior to the late 1950s, when DEET was introduced to the public, we mostly used natural bug-fighting methods.
For example, when my dad went fishing, his bug-protecting gear included a thin canvas hat with a mosquito netting “veil” and a drawstring collar.
Even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists DEET as “safe” and the most effective insect repellent on the market, many people don’t want to use it because of lingering concerns about toxicity.
It may sound old-fashioned, but the safest and most effective natural way to avoid both mosquitoes and ticks is to use protective netting and wear hats (such as my dad’s) and light-colored, long-sleeve shirts and pants.
For tick protection, most people know what to do but sometimes fail to follow the precautions—do a daily skin and hair check (inspect parts of the body with hair very carefully—ticks tend to bite those areas most often)…
keep pets off your furniture and bedding…and avoid brushy areas and paths surrounded by high grass or weeds (these are ideal hiding grounds for ticks).
If you must spend time in tick-infested areas: It may be necessary to use DEET for maximum protection in high tick season (spring and early summer).
If so, I suggest applying the repellent on your clothing (read the label for fabrics DEET can damage) rather than directly on your skin.
Do the application while you are outside in open air, and use the lowest possible dose. Natural options to repel mosquitoes…
Oil of lemon eucalyptus. CDC scientists consider this plant-derived compound to be as effective as low-concentration DEET for repelling mosquitoes.
Studies show that the compound can work for up to four hours, depending on several factors including how much the wearer perspires.
Commonly called “lemon eucalyptus,” the repellent is readily available in sprays and lotions (follow label instructions) in stores and online.
Wind.
Mosquitoes fly poorly in moving air. Especially during the height of mosquito season (spring and early summer), use a fan on your patio, balcony or any other area where you may be spending time.
You can also plan outdoor dining and activities for areas with natural breezes.
Citronella.
An essential oil derived from the Cymbopogon plant, citronella is an effective insect repellent that has been in use in the US since the 1940s.
Citronella is available in sprays and lotions but must be reapplied at least every 60 minutes. Citronella candles also are available.
Smoke and strong scents.
Mosquitoes are repelled by smoke and strong scents such as those from garlic, onion, marigold, oregano and scented geraniums.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that eating garlic helps repel mosquitoes.
Better:
Light candles, such as those with citronella, during an outdoor event, and consider surrounding your deck, patio or other outdoor space with strongly scented plants.

Zen Lill:
I too think that was a very scary scenario. It seems that the part about bringing race into the campaign has not been lost on some of the blacks in journalism. I read this article by Roland Martin about what that would mean.
====================
CNN’s Roland Martin said on Thursday that a plan by right-wing operatives to bring up Barack Obama’s past association with Jeremiah Wright could lead to others “putting Mormonism on the table.”
On Thursday, the New York Times reported on a proposal committed by billionaire Joe Ricketts that would run commercials tying Obama to Wright, whose sermons created perhaps his biggest campaign headache in 2008. (Asked about the plan, Mitt Romney called it the “wrong course.”)
Calling it a “ridiculous conversation,” and saying that it wouldn’t work, Martin also warned that people on the other side of the aisle might be inclined to bring up the issue of Romney’s faith if the plan were followed through.
“If Ricketts wants to do that, if the GOP they want to do that, you’re now putting Mormonism on the table,” Martin said. “You’re now putting on the table how African Americans were treated by the Mormon religion. I don’t think Mitt Romney really wants to have that conversation, considering he was an elder and his dad was an elder, and they really did not embrace African Americans. It is a ridiculous conversation.”
================
However, If the Mormon prophecy about that church rising up and taking over the country is real — that could be a problem.
You people in America are not alone. Many who read your blog Michelle, not in America, pray for your the survival of your country.
America, especially under Obama seems to offer hope to the world that the middle class can take back their world.

It is so weird it is scary.

The simple fact is that Romney’s Mormonism ought to be on the table anyway.
The entire Catholic faith was under the microscope when President Kennedy ran and Catholics represent over half the Christians on the planet and 1/6 of the world’s population – not exactly a fringe group by any means. In the end, Kennedy had to deal with it to ensure public trust.
Here, we have a religion that until 1978, didn’t allow blacks (ironic given Romney’s opponent), who posthumously baptizes people of other faiths without consent and a myriad of other things that might give most Americans pause – not to mention the specific Romney family history that hasn’t been examined in the context of a Presidential race when we’re all paying attention.
Meanwhile, the twisted thing is that people still want to see the President’s college transcript (which would be a first), and still don’t believe his birth certificate is real despite the release of the long form.
It ought not be up to the Obama campaign to do the leg work here. Journalists ought to do their jobs and dig and report.
Poor America.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:08 am
The following issue about Romney and Mormonism does need to be addressed:
Romney states that he believes that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
But Joseph Smith and Brigham Young taught that marriage should be between a man and several wormen.
So does Romney think that Smith and Young were wrong when they taught this?
May 20th, 2012 at 7:10 am
CV, No problem. The Mormon Church has changed positions [conveniently] about as many times as Romney, and like Willard, you still don’t know where it stands. As in the case of polygamy. They claim to have renounced it. Anybody believe that? Anybody?> . . . [crickets]
May 20th, 2012 at 7:10 am
Romney needs to address the fact that Mormons would not allow African Americans into their priesthood until 1979. They still don’t allow women to be priests but neither do the Catholics.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:12 am
Romney’s Mormonism will come to the forefront soon enough its unavoidable.
His own party the GOTP will drag it out one way or the others and when that happens we will really see some etcha sketch shaking like none before.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:21 am
Hafa adai Michelle, and of course you have by best wishes on you loss.
I do wish Guam could vote in the national elections and that we could send representatives to both legislative houses on the mainland.
The racist republicans on in the House of Representatives are always stiffing Guam because we are not white. It seems it was okay for Guamanians to suffer and die for their cause in WWII but not for its soldiers to receive the same benefits that the white soldiers got some 62 years ago.
The GOP controlled Rules Committee that decides which floor amendments to allow, turned down Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo’s latest bid to pass the Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act as part of the FY ’13 defense bill.
I find Anonz’s post scary but very possible given the depth of racism harbored in the bowels of many white americans.

Hafa Adai:
One more reason to re-elect Obama.
——————
Washington D.C. – Guam Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo is commending the Obama Administration for launching the Veteran Retraining Assistance Program [VRAP].
The program allows qualifying veterans to receive up to 1 year of tuition assistance to cover retraining costs. And after the completion of their course work, the Department of Labor will contact the veteran and help them find a new job with their newly acquired skills.
In a release, Congresswoman Bordallo says the program will “provide our veterans with the opportunity to learn new skills and transition back into our civilian workforce.”
———————
The incredible luck for America and the world is that Obama got elected. I suspect to no small effort on your part Michelle.
Send Madaline back on the political trail to combat the vote rigging attempts by the Right to steal the election. And tell her to bring on the CoatTails so he can govern with authority.

Those of you on the Left attacking Romney should know that he is a honorable religious man.
=====================
GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Thursday said that he disapproves of a Republican super PAC’s plan to link President Barack Obama to Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s inflammatory comments, a tactic that had been used by some in 2008, but rejected by then-presidential candidate John McCain.
“I want to make it very clear: I repudiate that effort,” Romney told reporters in Florida, repeating a claim that he made in an earlier interview. “I think it’s the wrong course for a PAC or a campaign.”
But Romney also alleged that the Obama campaign was leading the charge with negative attacks.
===================
As a direct result of Romney’s stance we got this from the Mr. Ricketts.
————
The billionaire, Joe Ricketts, founder of TD Ameritrade and father of Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts, has decided not to go forward with the campaign as a result of the pressure from Romney and Obama.

Now, you know the character of the soon to be President of the United States of America.

If the Republicans are serious about savings and cost cutting for Health Care all they have to do is to make it against the law for Insurance companies to negotiate with Health care providers.
The system we have now is, along with the era of Greed, what has caused such an expensive health care system. What we have is an escalating war on costs where the Providers raise their prices higher than inflation in order to obtain better deals from Insurers.
So stop this practice by putting us, the consumers right back in the middle where we used to be. Insurance companies can decide how much they will pay and Providers will have to lower their prices once we consumers are faced with the INFLATED RETAIL COST of health. Then the state and federal governments can figure out how to cover those in financial need at a much reduced rate.”
Isn’t this the definition of Capitalism, where we the consumer has the ability to shop around for the best deal and shop where we please. Just try going to any service provider when you have a plan that demands you stay in-network without having to pay a penalty.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:36 am
Sorry Doug I don’t buy it. This is a great ploy to protect attacks on his religion. Only an uninformed person will believe his “not me,” persona.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:38 am
Romney has inched closer, in fact many polls have him leading slightly but I don’t think this kind of trash has had any responsbility for this..
Rev Wright is a maniac who appeals to black hate mongers and some anti-esablishment people.
His message will not affect most peole but it does muddy the waters. Religeon should not be a factor in anything but it has, is and always will be.
hope that the majority of he people know fact from hate. They will come around to seeing that Romney has the business sense to lead us out of Obama’s mess.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:40 am
Reading the posts here gives me great hope. It sounds to me like the left-wing nuts are running scared.
God bless Romney
May 20th, 2012 at 7:42 am
Even 18 years ago, Ted Kennedy went after Romney about Bain Capital, and Romney couldn’t answer to what Kennedy brought up about that, because Romney isn’t a job creator, he is a job destroyer, but he makes money for the rich.
Romney wants to hide from so many issues, Bain is one, and his tax records are another. He wants to take credit for GM, it was his idea and he said let them go belly up and fail.
He doesn’t recall what he said, but if he said it, he stands behind it. This is what the republicans are running against President Obama, Obama has a lock on this term.
President Obama and the Democrat party may have it’s bad points, but Romney doesn’t have any points.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:43 am
It scares me to see Romney being so close in some of the polls, he is accusing Obama of over spending, let’s see who has increased the spending and put us into this mess:
Increases in the national debt
Reagan 189%
Bush Father 55%
Clinton 37%
Bush (son) 115%
Obama 16%
From: http://www.davidmixner.com/2011/05/which-presidents-have-increased-the-debt-the-most.html
To all the republican states: thanks to DEMOCRATIC PARTY you are not in a total chaos.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:45 am
Ricketts stopped being a self made man and turned into a taxpayer subsidized man long ago and he is still at it.
The company he founded twisted arms enough to get a section of Omaha suburbs declared “blighted and substandard” a designation required under state law for urban renewal projects in order to get tax breaks for the project. target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>http://neprepzone.com/article/20120515/NEWS01/705169914
He isn’t opposed to government intervention or spending as long as it is for his benefit- spending or government action for anyone else is what he opposes.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:47 am
A billionaire is spending more to “end spending.” That smells fishy. This is the decades-old right-wing plan of conquest called “starve the beast.”
The idea is to castrate government until it can no longer rein in robber barons.
They’ll say they want to help the American people, but they’re really interested in more power and more access to profits without having to pay any taxes.
This is OUR government they’re starving. This is democracy they’re destroying. Do they honestly think we’ll just stand by while they steal everything?
May 20th, 2012 at 7:48 am
Today I sent in an order to transfer my TD Ameritrade brokerage account (well into six figures) to another provider.
It’s a very simple document. Can be filled out in two minutes.

Jeramiah Wright gave his infamous “G__ Damn America” sermon on the Sunday after 911.
If you don’t take the comment out of context, then it makes sense that he was holding America responsible for what happened on 911…”the chickens came home to roost”
There are more than a few Americans that believe America’s self righteous “bring it on” attitude contributed to the attacks. He has a right to say whatever he wants.
Rush Limbaugh spews his hatred that reaches many more people than Pastor Wright’s words.
In all the years that Pastor Wright preached, this is the best they can do to vilify him….
This is a diversion so we won’t focus on Mitt Romney’s character that was revealed with the story of him cutting the hair of a fellow student who was gay. There is no comparison.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:56 am
What did Mr. Reagan accomplish? Well, he oversaw the greatest rise in wealth in the nation, millions of new jobs, and managed to run the Soviet Union into the dust, fostering the destruction of the Iron Curtain and the freeing of hundreds of millions of people who now live again without fear of reprisal for sharing ideas or attempting to make something of themselves.
What has Mr. Obama accomplished with his $6trillion in debt? He has perpetuated wars, started new ones, oversaw the fall of several leaders, opening the door to maniacal radicals to assume control, he has overseen more people than ever in poverty, more on foodstamps and an increasing number of people reliant on handouts with little hope of self-success.
He has incited anger and resentment and ignited racial divisions, he has managed to demonize the successful few in America for daring to be successful (as is openly on display in this thread). yes, this president has made things so much better.
His party refuses to be accountable for their actions by not proposing a budget EVER during his administration and his last two budgets have received a grand total of ZERO votes from any legislator in two consecutive years because they were so gawd-awful and wrong-headed.
He’s a phony, a charlatan, and will lose in November because his campaign is so focused on all the wrong things. Can’t focus on the right things – they all make him look bad.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:57 am
The recession was authored by Bush & Republicans, in case you choose to forget, and the Republicans have been blocking recovery, an authentic, workable budget and jobs for over three years now.
May 20th, 2012 at 7:58 am
If those on the Right were honestly only interested in deficit spending, They would have left the Republican Conservatives years ago – as I did!
Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times and more than quadrupled our national debt to $4.3 trillion by Jan 1993.
In fact, since 1981 $13.2 trillion were added to the debt, Republican presidents are responsible for $10.8 trillion, Democrats for $2.4 trillion.
Don’t forget, Republicans controlled the House and Senate since the mid 90s and the House, Senate AND President since 2001 – the result – no debt reduction(contrary to their present crying increased the debt) and the biggest recession in history.

Lets see, Mittens tortures animals, is a high-school homophobic bully, hates women rights, poor folks and education,
steals tax money to hide in Swiss bank accounts, loves to fire folks, lies about his record, won’t release his income tax despite paying only a 14% rate, trashes the middle class,
would not have helped the US auto industry, only cares about corporations and the 1%, would not have gotten Bin Laden,
bully’s gays, takes 5 different flip-flop stances on every issue, and panders to everyone.
Yep, GOP, you guys got a real winner there, you betcha’! All your missing is Sara Palin, Michelle Backmann or Herman Cain for VP!
May 20th, 2012 at 8:01 am
A decent Republican wouldn’t run against Obama because they know they are responsible for our deficit. That’s why they had the bottom of the barrel in which to choose from
May 20th, 2012 at 8:07 am
Obama’s party is attacking the rich peoples, leading us( poors ) to believe that rich peoples do not pay enough.
Here is what i want you to know: If you take moneys out of the job creators pockets they will not create any jobs.
The Democratic party does not believe in creating jobs, this is a party that takes great satisfaction in sending food stamps out to the poor so that the poor will stay poor.
Tell your political party to talk about job creation. Stop talking so bad about the rich, the rich people are the only ones that can afford to pay $ 40.000 for a plate.
Stop lying to the American people, you are getting very rich on the backs of the rich people.
This party will not get reelected because we will take our country back from the socialists.

Many who read Anonz’s comment take it as a wake up call that they will answer to.
The forces in play to accomplish their evil goal will have us to answer to.
It will not be easy but we will prevail because the stakes are too high to lose.
