Barbara Espinosa’s Racist Remarks

Posted by Michelle Moquin on June 21st, 2012

Good morning!

The blog comments finally came in and it looks like one certain topic is on everyone’s mind. It’s on my mind too.

I found this write to be the best stated, thanks to :

‘I call him a monkey,’ says radio host Barbara Espinosa

Barbara Espinosa is a lady who hosts a radio show on KFNX in Phoenix, Arizona, and if you haven’t heard the clip of her as she purposely disrespected the President of the United States Barack Obama during an exchange with a caller, this is your lucky day.

Espinosa was talking to a caller who was referring to President Obama as ‘rabbit ears,’ when she decided to up the ante by attacking Obama’s race as she said: “I call him a monkey! I don’t call him the first Black president. I call him a monkey! I voted for the White guy!”

But, President Bush 43 is a White guy too, and how did that work out for the country? So in case you’re wondering, Espinosa is part of a programming line up out in Arizona with people like Laura Ingraham, Neal Boortz, and other right-wingers, and after hearing this Espinosa character it is clear to me that there is nothing worse than old ignorance, because you can’t be old and ignorant without a lot of repetitively embraced practice.

And, I don’t want to hear anymore about this post-racial society crap either. This society is about as post-racial as Fox News is post-biased, because you can’t be that unbelievably numbing with just plain, old facts, and an audience full of willingly, happily bought-in people like Barbara Espinosa is just what the conservative, Fox News, propaganda doctor ordered.

Propaganda is propaganda regardless of the content, so it should be no surprise that old adages like black monkeys, coons, and the inevitable, forthcoming slippage of the N-word will continue to re-emerge and surround the legitimacy of this president, as long as he is the president. From Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner complaining about Michelle Obama’s rather ‘large posterior,’ to Glenn Beck unrelentingly mocking and berating Malia Obama with a hideous impersonation of her before he overtly criticizes the educational level of both of President Obama’s daughters, to the infamous photo of the Obama family being depicted as a family of apes, the dehumanizing, propaganda machine has been in full swing.

Whether it’s Espinosa’s propaganda or the Tea Party’spropaganda, the overwhelming agenda is White supremacy, and the overwhelming, non-White thorn in the side of this institutionalized ideology is President Obama’s constitutionally elected ability to sit his Black ass down in the White House!

And however you put it, it’s just very difficult to justify the ideology of White supremacy within the reality of a Black president, and this is where the Black monkey/King Kong stealing away the good, innocent, White woman undertone comes into play through the age-old, Jim Crow fantasies of Blacks being the offspring of Charles Darwin’s monkeys, while Whites are legitimately put on this Earth by a WhiteGod!

So in essence, when some bigot who just happens to be White calls an African-American a monkey or a baboon, they are saying just as much about their staunch beliefs regarding White origins as they are about Black origins, and Barbara Espinoza knows this all too well. That’s why she made the monkey comments, and she was not just talking to President Obama. She was talking to me, to you, to anyone with a Black face, and to anyone who supports someone with a Black face—hence her statement: ‘I voted for the White guy!’

This is not just about defending the president. This is about no longer accepting racist spit in our ethnic eyes. Now when these Espinosa types call President Obama a Kenyan, it doesn’t have to mean they’re calling me a Kenyan. And when his critics believe that his ideas suck, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are saying that my ideas suck. But when they call him a monkey or the N-word, they are definitely passing it on to me as well, and this is when it becomes my fight, and this is when it goes far beyond the politics!

So when proud conservatives, along with a significant number of cowardly liberals and Blue Dog Democrats wag their yellow tails to express their desires that the president chooses not to respond or that I choose not to respond to this kind of monkey business is the equivalent of telling a modern day Rosa Parks to stay on the back of the bus and don’t challenge the system. But, when a system of oppression is vehemently despised yet still unopposed, that is the essence of true slavery.

Barbara Espinosa is just a wannabe, talk radio, big shot who was only able to garner her 15 minutes of fame by putting on an ideological, Ku Klux Klan hat and burning an ideological cross on the radio, and she should be bounced out of KFNX and off of the air quicker than Jimmy ‘The Greek’ Snyder was bounced off of CBS for his inappropriate comments about Blacks, which sound very tame compared to the monkey comments made by Espinosa. Nevertheless when and if she is fired, she’ll probably be offered a job on Fox News &Friends, or she could be offered a position with Glenn Beck. He just signed a radio contract for $100 million. He can afford it.

But remember this conservatives and right-wingers. If the president’s polices are truly as unsightly as they’ve been made out to be, you shouldn’t have to resort to burning ideological crosses on the radio to convince people of it.

*******

Readers: And typical of republicans, they spout off disgusting, racist remarks from lips that can’t seem to stop flapping, and then come back with an disingenuous apology, said only to CTA (cover their ass).  Barbara Espinosa is pretty much the same same.

Barbara Espinosa: The beauty and benefit that we have from freedom of speech is that we say what we mean because we can. The good news is we don’t have to hold back – we can say what we naturally want to say…what we feel, right off the top of our heads. No censoring necessary. That is also the bad news. And by the way, know that I don’t buy your apologetic lie.

Happy Summer! Peace out.

Good afternoon all. Let’s take a look at what we have been working on today:

Obamacare, Ariz. Immigration next week – From the Human Events editors: “The decision did not come, however, indicating that the high court would hand down its ruling on Obamacare — and the controversial Arizona SB 1070 — next week, even as late as Thursday, June 28.

The centerpiece of Barack Obama’s first term, the president called the health care law the ‘most important piece of social legislation since the Social Security Act passed in the 1930s and the most important reform of our health care system since Medicare passed in the 1960s.’” Read more below.

Look for our coverage starting on Monday. Our issue next week is a special health care issue that will outline the future of health care in the U.S.

Rubio hammers Obama on immigration – From John Gizzi this A.M.: “There are many unanswered questions. How many does it affect? Are kids going to come out and identify themselves?” Rubio said this morning at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast. Read more below.

Senate kills effort to block EPA regulation on coal-powered plants – From Audrey Hudson on the Hill: “Legislation to defeat an EPA emissions rule that critics say would kill thousands of jobs and raise electricity rates for consumers was killed in the Senate Wednesday. A handful of Republicans sided with Democrats to block the measure on a procedural vote of 46 yeas to 53 nays, including Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Scott Brown of Massachusetts, and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine.”

    Have a great Thursday,

    Hafa adai:

Michelle all I can say is that white america is so tolerant of those who disrespect Obama racially that’s why they get bolder and bolder.

As soon as a white man is back in the White House we will be hearing how necessary it is to respect the Office if not the man.

For those of you still nostalgia about Guam, here is a little story to read about its Longest Day.
    ====================
Guam’s longest day lasts for days

Greetings everyone. Well, the clouds haven’t moved in for rainy season yet and there are some lovely sky sights up there. I told you last week to go out and look in the early morning sky for a conjunction of Jupiter, Venus and the thin crescent moon. Well, if the moon was a thin crescent in the dawn sky last week, that means that new moon is this week (it was on Wednesday) and that lovely thin crescent ‘smile’ has appeared in our early evening sky.

Watch the sun disappear tonight and if the clouds cooperate, you’ll see that sliver-thin crescent moon keeping close company with another of the planets. The bright star that’s to the right of and below the moon tonight isn’t a star; it’s Mercury. At one hour after sunset, Mercury will be a little less than a fist-width above the western horizon.

So … just when is one hour after sunset? Well, that changes of course, depending on the season and your latitude. We all know that the days are the same length at the equinoxes in March and September. The shortest day is the first day of winter and the longest day is the first day of summer. Right? Well . . . maybe. You probably noticed if you’ve ever spent time in temperate latitudes like the mainland U.S., that the days are very short in winter and very long in summer and the effect is more pronounced the farther north you go. In most of northern Alaska, the sun doesn’t set at all in the summer and it’s daylight all the time. In the winter, the sun never rises and it’s always dark. This difference in daylight length happens because the Earth’s rotation axis is tilted in relation to the sun. In northern hemisphere summer, the north pole of Earth is tilted toward the sun. More energy falls on the northern hemisphere and heats it up. This tilt causes the seasons. Here on Guam, we live near the middle and our part never tilts toward or away from the sun very much. Because of this, our day length doesn’t change much either. We get roughly 11 hours of daylight in the winter and 13 hours of daylight in the summer.

Why am I talking about this? Well, yesterday, June 21st, was the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere and it should have been the year’s longest day, right? Well, not necessarily. Yesterday was summer solstice for us this year (unlike last year when it happened on the 22nd) but here on Guam the days don’t get longer and longer until June 21 and then start getting shorter again. We have more of a slide, when the sun starts rising later, but also continues to set later for about a month. Sunrise was ‘stuck’ at 5:53 a.m., the earliest rise time of the year, for most of the first half of June. On June 11, the sun rose at 5:54 a.m. and by the end of the month will rise at 5:57 a.m.

We started the month with sunset at 6:45 p.m. The sun will continue to set later all month and it will set at 6:52 p.m. on the 30th. So exactly when is the longest day of the year? You’ve been enjoying it all month. The longest day started on June 7th because all the rest of the days in June are either 12 hours and 54 minutes long or 12 hours and 55 minutes long. We may not have midnight sun or even 14 or 15 hours of daylight here this week, but we do have a ‘longest day’ that lasts for most of the month of June!

And don’t forget, I’ll be going to Cairns, Australia in November to see the total solar eclipse on a tour sponsored by Public Radio Guam. If you’d like to join me or learn more about the tour, check out http://www.latitude13adventures.com

  3. Health Info Says:

    Popcorn—Even Healthier Than You Thought

When it comes to healthy snacks, popcorn already had high marks because it’s a 100%-whole-grain, high-fiber food that helps fill you up on relatively few calories.

    Guess what? It’s even better.
Recent research reveals that America’s favorite snack is healthier than we previously thought.

But you have to make popcorn in a certain way to get all the health benefits and avoid turning it into just another junky snack.

And if you buy prepopped popcorn in bags in the potato chip aisle…well, you’d better know what to look for and what to avoid, or you’ll end up with something nearly as unhealthful as those potato chips!

    THE SECRET INGREDIENTS IN POPCORN
Polyphenols (disease-fighting antioxidants) are present in popcorn—and also in other foods, such as fruits and vegetables.

But until now, nobody had studied exactly how much polyphenol content there is in popcorn.

Researchers at The University of Scranton in Pennsylvania analyzed polyphenol levels in two air-popped varieties and two microwave brands of popcorn.

When they averaged the numbers from all four types, they found that roughly two tablespoons of unpopped kernels or three to five cups of popped popcorn (one serving) contains 300 milligrams (mg) of polyphenols, while one serving of fruit contains, on average, 160 mg.

In other words, popcorn contains roughly twice the amount of polyphenols as fruit!

And to get 300 mg of polyphenols from regular corn, which contains 114 mg per serving on average, you’d have to eat about two and one-half servings. Popcorn wins again—by a long shot!

Then the researchers made another interesting discovery. They found that 98% of the polyphenols in popcorn are in the hull—the plasticky part in the middle of the popped piece of popcorn that often gets lodged in your teeth.

“It makes sense, because we know that many polyphenols in fruits and vegetables are in the skin, and the hull is the kernel’s original outer coating—before the kernel pops and gets turned inside out,” said Joe Vinson, PhD, a professor of chemistry at the university and a coauthor of the study.

    THE HULL TRUTH

Dr. Vinson went on to explain why he found the results so intriguing: “We’ve known that eating whole grains reduces risk for chronic diseases, and many scientists have chalked that up to the fiber, but the polyphenols may be responsible for at least some of the benefits.”

One reason that popcorn has more polyphenols than many fruits and vegetables is because of its low water content, Dr. Vinson told me.

“Polyphenols get diluted in fruits and vegetables because they contain about 90% water, but popcorn has only about 2% to 4% water,” he said.

But there is one downside. The study also revealed that almost 100% of the polyphenols in popcorn aren’t “free,” meaning that they don’t automatically get absorbed into our bloodstream.

“These polyphenols are bound to fiber, and fiber needs to be broken down and released by enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract,” said Dr. Vinson. (All fruits and veggies contain some “bound” polyphenols, but the percentage varies, he added.)

In other words, it’s likely that some but not all of the polyphenol content in popcorn gets absorbed by our bodies.

His next study, he said, will look at exactly how much does. In the meantime, Dr. Vinson said to chew your popcorn thoroughly, because enzymes in your saliva help break down fiber and make the polyphenols more easily absorbed.

    DON’T UNDO THE BENEFITS

While dousing your popcorn with butter and salt may lower the glycemic index of the food, making it less likely to negatively affect your blood sugar and insulin levels, and won’t reduce the amount of polyphenols, it will raise the saturated fat, sodium and calorie content.

If you overdo it, that’ll bring your popcorn down a few notches in the “healthy snack” department.

So it’s wise to avoid movie theater popcorn and prepackaged microwave popcorn bags (which are often loaded with fat, sodium and calories) and to instead eat air-popped popcorn, Dr. Vinson said.

For a hint of flavor, he recommends spritzing popcorn with a light mist of water, lime juice or olive oil and then lightly salting it—the mist helps the salt stick and won’t make the popcorn soggy if you don’t overdo it.

When you’re looking at different popped popcorn snacks in the supermarket, Dr. Vinson said to compare the fat and calorie content on the nutrition labels on the bags, which will help you decide which is a healthier choice. Choose the one with the lowest amounts.

Source: Joe A. Vinson, PhD, professor of chemistry, The University of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

He presented these findings at the American Chemical Society’s annual meeting in San Diego in March.

  4. Cs Says:

That’s the little secret that makes racism work. You can act superior to someone and crap on them all day long, and all you have to do is turn around and give them someone to crap on and they will feel that they are a part of your supposedly superior group.

The general rule of white supremacy is white equals good, black equals bad. A lot of minorities, despite being degraded by white supremacists themselves, will thus look down on blacks.

It’s their key to being in the club. It’s the same with many blacks when it comes to being Republican. They make you feel special because you aren’t one of the lazy, complaining, ones. Their mindset, not mine.

  5. MT Says:

I once had a white girl say she didn’t like Mexicans because “they aren’t like us” and she was talking to me!

Most Mexicans are mestizos, part white and part Indian (they also have a small admixture of black blood, which they furiously deny — when I was in Mexico I saw black Mexicans).

  6. Lois Says:

When it comes to calling the President racist names, What’s new? The republican feel free to act out the worse racist attitudes in public.
    =============
An Orange County Republican Party official is defending an email she sent that portrays President Obama’s face superimposed on a chimpanzee with the words: “Now you know why — No birth certificate!”

Marilyn Davenport, an elected member of the party’s central committee, described the controversy as “much to do about nothing” in an email and vowed that she would not resign.

“I’m sorry if my email offended anyone, I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth,” she wrote.

“In no way did I even consider the fact he’s half black when I sent out the email. In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race.

We all know a double standard applies regarding this president. I received plenty of emails about George Bush that I didn’t particularly like, yet there was no ‘cry’ in the media about them.”*
    ========================
It’s simply a fact that white america doesn’t want any OTW to get the respect a white man gets. They have made it clear that there will be no repercussions for racist behavior towards this black president.

    Lois

  7. Patty Says:

Of course it’s racist. And any criticism of her will only prompt my people to accuse the person of playing the race card. They tongue in cheek smile and say no that has no racial connotations.

Blacks have been compared to monkeys for ages. White people hate to admit their racist past and apparent racist present.

  8. SC Says:

I was shocked that all these people reacted by saying it is a racist attack. I think that double standard is in itself a racist attitude.

  9. Ma Says:

This was a racial joke, as blacks have been depicted by white racists as monkeys since we were chained on boats coming from Africa. That has a negative effect on every black citizen in this country.

  10. Ma Says:

A monkey portayal of a Black man is always racist since this has been the de facto description of Blacks for centuries.

For those who infer that criticisms of Obama are at a level similar to prior presidents, please note that even if the level was somehow able to be measured and found commensurate to the level of past Presidents, the birth,

Muslim and “non-patriotic” issues take it to another level exponentially. No past president has EVER been subject to these areas of attack.

  11. Human Events Says:

A Michigan legislator, Lisa Brown, gave a speech in the statehouse last week that would have made her right at home in a women’s studies course at a local community college, but a wacko in a group of actual legislators.

    Sponsored Content
She commented on a pending abortion bill by first announcing that she was Jewish, kept kosher, described her various sets of plates, and then saying that Jewish law makes abortion mandatory to save the life of the mother.

This had absolutely nothing to do with the bill being considered, but it may explain why there are no Jewish Tim Tebows.

Then she said: “I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?”

Her smashing crescendo was: “And finally Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested in my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no’!”

It’s not clear where Rep. Brown got the idea that the Republican caucus was planning on date-raping her, but I think there’s been a terrible misunderstanding.

  13. Ed Says:

The Supreme Court has become a political institution with a pro-corporate agenda

Until yesterday, it was voters and legislators who got to decide whether they wanted to live in a right-to-work state. With Knox v. SEIU, the Supreme Court began to assume that decision-making responsibility for the rest of us.

Benjamin Sachs has valid points: http://afjjusticewatch.blogspot.com/search/label/the%20corporate%20court
