Which Pup Will Be Chosen For The Presidential Pooch?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on November 12th, 2008

You know I was so excited for the election to be over so that I could get back to writing about my other passions in life, write about other important issues besides, ‘Who’s gonna be the next president?’…but as you can tell, I am having a hard time letting go. In fact, as delighted as I am about Obama being the President elect, I feel a bit sad that it is all over. I loved the camaraderie that was so present in the community. It’s like we were all in it together, for once…and really, we were. I loved feeling the connection, being a part of something big, and seeing the progress towards a common goal.

I didn’t have much time to focus on myself, which was a good thing. But now?…time to get back to real life and focus on my life a bit. Although I have to say, it was much more fun focusing on something else.

So, excuse me if it takes me awhile to let this election and everything surrounding this election go. It was a big election and quite frankly, employed some pretty important issues, so at some point or another they will continue to show up here. The election is over, but our economy and the many issues and topics of interest happening around the world are far from over.

Okay, so onto the topic of today…one of my fav subjects to talk about:

Which Pup Will Be Chosen For The Presidential Pooch?

Well…we know that they need a hypoallergenic one because Malia, their daughter is allergic. I heard that they were looking for a Goldendoodle which is a hybrid of a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. And in my opinion, a fake dog.  Yes, they’re cute but over-bred…the latest in designer dogs, next to the Labradoodle, another popular hybrid dog. Not a good choice for the First Family and certainly not a good message to the American people, when it is widely known that over 4 million pooches are put to death every year.

Obama did say that he wanted to adopt a rescue dog from the shelter (yippie!), “A mutt like me”, he joked. So I doubt that it is going to be a Goldendoodle – not many of those in need of rescuing.  And even if there was, I still think it would send the wrong message.  The last thing we need is for Americans to be heading to the breeders ordering their Goldendoodle puppy just ’cause the First Family has one.

“But ever since President-elect Obama mentioned to the world that his kids are getting a puppy, dog lovers around the world have been panting with anticipation to learn what kind of dog will become ‘first pup’.”  It is a fido frenzy out there!

So, I hear that Peru has suggested its native Peruvian hairless dog, a bald, toothless breed, which in my opinion looks cuter than it sounds. Ugly can be cute and hey at least you don’t have to worry about him chewing up the ‘first furniture’.  You tell me – here’s a photo:

This little precious 4-month-old pup named Machu Picchu is nicknamed “Ears,” ( Gee, I wonder why? :) was offered formally to the future first family in a letter sent to the U.S. Embassy. Also noted was that this little breed was once favoured by Inca rulers.

Hmm…not exactly the typical choice of a breed for the White House, but then the Obama’s certainly aren’t typical. Nope no same same here – thankfully.

Lastly, it’s a difficult decision but I am sure that they will make an informed conscious one, and….the bottom line is, the pup will be well loved, I’m sure.

Readers:  Any guesses on what the Obama’s will do? Blog me.

Hey Doug: Prop 8 should never have passed. As Olbermann said, ‘Do unto others…’ But people fail to honor that because it is not happening to them.

Hi ZL: Yes, I believe in the power of love too, and it shows face in very strange ways sometimes. And speaking of food…these friends up here in No Cal could help relieve the pressure cooker – come cook for us!

Hi Carl: You’re welcome.

Hey Heather: My feelings exactly. The effects of the economy as well as so many other things can have a huge affect on us…but this? In my mind, non whatsoever. There is so much more to be concerned about in life.

Anonymous: I’m not avenging anyone. My motto is still ‘Peace & Love: Live it, Give It.’ But who am I to step in the way of someone else’s  personal destiny? I wouldn’t want someone to butt in my life and prevent me from doing what I felt that I needed to do, regardless of whether that person understands or agrees with me or not. It’s called freedom‘the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.’ I’m all for that. I am in control of my life and I want it to stay that way. Somehow in spite of what you say, you feel the same – no?

My motto: ‘Peace & Love: Live it, Give It.’

Gratefully your blog host,

Awww, Misch, you know I could love ‘Ears’, so if the Obama’s doesn’t want him, I do! Elke is my mink coat doggie so I could handle the no hair thing, and that crooked ear with that face…so cute. And yes, I’ve pretty much decided that I need another doggie sometime before Elke departs, but let’s not go there, she’s like a 10 year old pup, still chasing her tail when nobody’s looking : )

Anonymous, I’m not avenging anyone either, just voiced the thought that I’d might like to if someone fugs with the sweet pea, and you know it was a passing thought. It only lasted an hour or so, bc avenging is not truly a Zen non-violent way to handle loss, now is it? Anonz is busy avenging what he feels he must and if he kills people, well, they were all bad (copped that line from ‘True Lies’ tee hee). And you are free to watch GH or the original Avenger’s if we’re boring you ; )

Ciao, peace and luv, livin’ it and givin’ it, Zen Lill
