Good morning!

For the girls.

Rabbi Writes Patronizing Letter To Sarah Silverman, Has His Ass Handed To Him By Her Dad

Rabbi Yaakov Rosenblatt is apparently not a fan of Sarah Silverman. In fact, if his open letter to her can be taken on its face, he’s not a fan in general of uppity women who haven’t made marriage and baby-making a priority.

The letter, published on JewishPress.com, initially takes issue with Silverman’s Let My People Vote campaign for its use of “biblical language,” but his argument quickly shifts focus to the comedian’s real crimes: focusing on her career rather than marrying and mothering her own “brood.” Rosenblatt suggests that the reason for Silverman’s political interests — which he seems to think are new — is the result of a hole in her life that can only be filled by traditional marriage and family.

I think you have latched on to politics because you are searching for something to build. There is only so much pulling down one can do without feeling utterly destructive…. You are driven. You are passionate. I pray that you channel your drive and direct your passion to something positive, something that will make you a better and more positive person, something that will allow you to touch eternity and truly impact the world forever. I pray that you pursue marriage and, if you are so blessed, raise children.

Jezebel writer Katie J.M. Baker reacted to the letter today with a scathing response:

Why is Rabbi Rosenblatt so threatened by Sarah Silverman? Because — make no mistake — that’s exactly what he is. He’s clearly threatened by the fact that a 42-year-old childless (gasp!), unmarried (double gasp!) woman (TRIPLE GASP!) wields so much power and influence — and that she actually seems fulfilled by her unorthodox life choices.

But most importantly, Silverman’s dad took to the comments section on Rosenblatt’s post and fired off a couple of warning shots:

Hey asshole: Daughter #1 is a rabbi. Not by your standards. She’s reform. How dare she, a lowly woman think god wants her to be a rabbi, created from a mere rib. Her hubby, three times nominated for a nobel peace prize was listed by the Jerusalem Post as the 49th most influential jew in the world built the worlds largest solar field in israel. By the way, Sarah was also on the list. I missed your name. Oldest granddaughter is serving in the Israel Defense Forces. I’m sure you also served.Oh I forgot the orthodox don’t do that. You don’t fuck with my family.

Is it too early to name Donald Silverman dad of the year?

Silverman has yet to respond to the letter herself, but we we’re not putting our money on the comedian having a family-values change of heart anytime soon.

Readers: Ya got to love a father like that who sticks up for his daughter, and won’t put up with anyone dissing her. Not even a Rabbi.

Oh…I just had to add this video too – “Silverman wants to scissor Sheldon”. Don’t know what that means? Watch the video:

For all you Righties who are eating up the idea that Obama took a swipe at Chris Matthews The headline with the photo of Matthews looking mad is so deceiving. And, Obama did not take a swipe at nor did he zing Matthews, who clearly liked being called out.

  5. Roger Says:

I don’t preceive it as a joke. The infighting has just begun. Hopefully real Democrats will be able to reconstruct the party from the shambles of liberalism.

They need to get rid of the special interest groups like the unions, blacks, and gays and reestablish the grand ole party to its past glory.Bye Bye barack

  6. John Says:

C;mon folks, ease back on the daggers a bit, OK? This was a funny comment on a charity event meant to be a break from the business of ruthless politics.

Matthews has made no secret of the fact that he is a shameless shill for Obama, he has said so openly on his show. Obama was just making jest of Matthews slobbering devotion and his dismay at Obama’s face plant in debate 1.

It was a funny moment. Nothing more and nothing less.

  7. Debra Says:

Some white women have good sense. Huff Post – Clint Eastwood may be Mitt Romney’s most famous supporter, but his daughter isn’t following in her father’s footsteps.

TMZ caught up with the actress and model and asked her if she shared Clint’s political views. “I happen to be voting for a different man,” she said. “But I love that he stands up for what he believes in.”

  8. Health Info Says:

3 Myths About the Health-Care Law

When the Supreme Court recently upheld most elements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), both political parties went to the airwaves touting their respective views about the ruling.

But, as someone who has advocated for health-care consumers for more than 40 years, I was troubled by some of the myths that both sides put forth.

Important points you should know about…

    Myth #1:
Everyone will pay a new tax. In the Supreme Court’s ruling, the ACA requirement that everyone must have insurance or pay some money to the government was deemed legal because Congress has the right to impose a tax as a penalty for not buying a health policy.

Some pundits made it sound like everyone will be forced to pay a new tax.

Not so. In fact, anyone on Medicare, Medicaid or who already has health insurance will pay no tax for this insurance. If you cannot afford health insurance, you will not be taxed, but instead receive a government subsidy to help you buy a policy.

Be aware: Less than 1% of the population, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services, is expected to be taxed—those who can afford insurance but refuse to buy.

    Myth #2:
The new law will regulate drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries. When the Medicare drug benefit was passed in 2003, it included what became known as the “donut hole.”

Here’s how it works: After you and your insurer pay for the first $2,930 worth of drugs (the amount for 2012), you must pay the next $3,727 totally out of your own pocket.

The ACA changes that by first requiring that manufacturers give people in the donut hole a 50% discount on brand-name drugs to help offset their out-of-pocket costs. And over the next seven years, the donut hole is being gradually eliminated, meaning your insurance will be paying most of the drug costs you previously were paying in full.

    My advice:
Since the ACA does not regulate the price of drugs, which are bound to increase over time, ask your doctor whether you can be prescribed generics or older, but effective, brand-name drugs. This can save you a bundle in out-of-pocket costs when combined with the change in the law.

    Myth #3:
Preexisting conditions will be completely covered. The ACA guarantees that by 2014 no adult (children are already covered) can be turned down for a policy by an insurance company because of a preexisting condition, such as cancer, heart disease or lupus.

Unfortunately, many people believe that this means insurers must pay for everything related to the preexisting condition. But that’s not true. Under the law, the insurer must pay only for what your specific policy covers.

For example, many policies don’t cover expensive cancer drugs or allow only for a certain number of physical therapy visits.

    My advice:
If you have a preexisting condition, talk to your doctor to find out the type of treatments you likely will need in the future, and shop around for a policy that gives you the most coverage for your money.

  10. Camela Says:

Ok that is her choice. Does anyone care ?

  13. Oscine Says:

    Earnie, why should she?

  14. Katie Says:

Sam, Experience with what? Loading companies with debt, then bankrupting the company while he got record bonuses, or the outsourcing part? Just wondering what part of his resume makes him suitable?

And let us not forget, Bush was a business man too, how well did that work out for us?

Oh, yeah, even the Republicans don’t want to talk about that…lol

  15. Annie Says:

    Sam:

What utterly ridiculous comment. I am a hard working middle class person voting for President Obama. You happen to be one of the many impatient, fix 8 yrs of disaster yesterday members.

Question, how do you stand behind someone who is unable to provide specifics on any plans of all those thingys he claims to do on Day 1? And do you really think the R’s have any better ideas, since the guy running on their ticket, considering he changes his stance on the majority of topics consistenly.

He clearly can’t control his behavior in public and quite frankly can’t relate to the majority of the American population?
    OBAMA-BIDEN 2012

  16. Connie Says:

    Smart woman, that daughter.

  17. Rod Says:

Her dad isn’t voting for Mitt either. I suspect the empty chair skit was an assist to Obama.

  18. Sam Says:

Of course! Those who worked for “it” will choose Romney.

  19. Gwen Says:

I have read these comments about Clint’s’ daughter who is an adult. Because she has here own opinion, she has been all but thrown in the trash. But why would I expect more from republican supporters.

They act just like republican candidates when others don’t agree with their views. You people need to destress. Why are you so hostile? You all are acting just like Romney hostile.

Opps, it has been diagnosed, Romnesia if you didn’t know it is cover under the obama care………………….lol

  20. Katie Says:

Sam, Like Warren Buffett and million others?? Stop talking out of your behind. You mean the greedy ones will choose Romney.

  21. Anonymous Says:

Were you shocked to learn those photos of Paul Ryan washing dishes at a soup kitchen were basically staged? The VP candidate got blowback this week from the charity president, who claimed the campaign “ramrodded” its way into a dining hall that wasn’t even serving at the time. But if it had been, would the photo op have been much less fakey-fake?

  22. Ruth,SM Says:

Excuse we while I paraphrase. Romney is a LSOS, a guy who changes his lies with regularity to whatever situation that he’s in. He’s a master of flim-flam, a fellow who could sell someone oceanfront property in Arizona, and do so without a trace of remorse.

In fact, Mitt Romney at times seems close to closing that sale with the entire American electorate. In just a few more weeks, with a bit of luck and his bushel of billionaire bucks, he just might beat Barack Obama to become the 45th president of the United States.

Michelle, please get Madaline to get Obama elected with coattails. I am counting on you.

Hey, Madaline if you are listening and Michelle gives you the okay. The day of the election give us a holler and say. “You got it!”

Just let us know you and Michelle has his back.

    Ruth,SM

  23. David Says:

Yeah, but did you see the Washington Post rush to his defense, mainly because they distributed the photos.
    ======================

In the Washington Post “Reliable Source” blog yesterday morning, the authors make the point (“Political photo ops: From Reagan to Paul Ryan, the game every candidate plays”) that Paul Ryan’s photo at a soup kitchen last weekend was nothing more then par for the course.

In their minds, the Ryan campaign manipulating its way into a charity’s kitchen after the meal was over and washing already clean dishes was hardly different from images of Clinton jogging, or Bush clearing brush on his Texas ranch, or Obama shooting hoops or Reagan sitting on a horse.

Well, I can understand the media wanting to absolve itself of responsibility in enabling the Ryan photo op and distributing the pictures, as we detailed last week, but in this case (pardon the pun), these comparisons don’t wash. (A ka-ching, however, for accompanying the article with a photo-op slideshow as click bait.)
    ========================

Paul hasn’t been referred to constantly, over the past few months, as “Lyin Ryan” for nothing.

  24. Filbert Says:

Mitt does it without a trace of remorse.’

That’s exactly what Mitt is all about!…. will say or do anything it takes, w/o a trace of remorse.

God help us if we the people believe the lie, instead of the muted truth.

  25. Jules Says:

I like this saw it in Huff Post.
    =====================================

The question of why religious conservatives are so likely to be caught in the act is eternally compelling.

From the Pentecostal televangelist Jimmy Swaggart’s love for prostitutes to abstinence-preaching Senator David Vitter’s extracurricular romps, hardly a year passes when some big-time right-winger isn’t found to be coloring outside the box.

Now lefties really don’t care if Vitter, fondly known on the web by his fetish moniker “Diaperman,” likes to get his kicks wearing adult diapers and paying someone to powder his butt.

In fact, we might encourage him to let his freak flag fly and march in the diaper fetish parade. As long as the sexual activity doesn’t hurt anyone, who cares? It’s the fetish for moralizing, sermonizing, and finger-wagging that sets our teeth on edge.

Particularly when it ossifies into laws that make it impossible for many women to manage their reproductive lives or prevents loving partners from getting hitched. Not only do public pieties fail to prevent personal improprieties, they seem to have an unusually strong correlation.

When legendary conservative Strom Thurmond was promising never to force southern whites to admit blacks (not the word he used) “into our theaters, into our swimming pools, into our homes, and into our churches,” he neglected to mention that at the age of 22 he had admitted one into his bed and impregnated the family’s 16-year old black maid. His daughter was a secret until his death in 2003.

So what is that? Why condemn what you desire? Part of the answer can be found in the style of religion you embrace if you are a right-winger. Monotheistic religions like Christianity are especially patriarchal and tend to be built on the denial of the feminine and a special abhorrence of those flesh packages known as “bodies.”

If you’re only going to have one god, that god is probably going to be male, and so you’ve got to suppress the female element of spirituality so that He doesn’t have any competition.

Women are associated with the processes of nature, which can be scary, and you’ve got to do something about that, too. They give birth, and anything that is born must die, which is an unpleasant thought, so to get rid of that you just go around pretending that life is eternal and that everything really springs from the Great Celestial Father.

Pretty soon you have concocted possibly the most unnatural idea in human history: The Virgin Mother.

Polytheistic religions don’t tend to operate this way, which is why you can see male and female gods frolicking with abandon on the walls of ancient Egyptian temples. Which is also why the Second Commandment in the Bible tells you not to ever, ever look at them.

In fact, you’re really not supposed to look at or think about bodies at all. They are inconvenient encumbrances to your eternal life, and the sooner you get rid of them, the better.

Anything that upsets the fragile order of this strange system where males are celestial beings and women are nasty creatures whose bodies reek of dirty sex — like gay love, for example — will have to be squelched at all costs.

Holding all these contradictory thoughts in your head deforms the mind into a labyrinth of twists and turns and on top of that there’s a phantom floating around in there.

Thanks to Freud, we know that humans are often haunted by something called The Return of the Repressed. The more you try to deny the undead incarnation of your repressed desires, the stronger he becomes, and he will hunt you down. Before long you find yourself in a park restroom in Florida asking an undercover policeman to fellate you for 20 bucks. And your boss John McCain is pissed.

D’Souza himself provides a curious perspective on the subject. In a meditation on the high standards of conservatives in which he deplores the adulteries of both Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich, D’Souza imparts this gleaming nugget of insight:

“Even hypocrisy is in the conservative view preferable to a denial of standards because such denial leads to moral chaos or nihilism.”

Let’s call this Conservative Chaos Theory. Without hypocrisy, the conservative mind would explode from the sheer force of its eternal contradictions and Dinesh D’Souza, along with his phantom, would be sucked into the void.

Hypocrisy is the glue that holds it all together. Tolerance for others is corrosive to hypocrisy and must be avoided come hell or high water. In that South Carolina hotel room, Dinesh D’Souza was taking a stand against moral relativity.

Maybe even the General Theory of Relativity. Anything which denies the absolutes and standards that protect the insecure human from the knowledge of his mortality — and ultimately, his insignificance in the great design of things. People, this is courage. And I submit that it is not easy to take a stand while you are lying down.

This is why, friends, that you will very likely soon turn on the news to hear that yet another promoter of God’s word has been caught with his pants down.

In motel rooms across America, these men are bravely resisting chaos.

    Amen.
    =============================
Right Wingers want you to do as they say, not do as they do,breaking the rules belong to them.

  26. Dale Says:

    I ABSOLUTELY BEG TO DIFFER!!!!

“images of Clinton jogging, or Bush clearing brush on his Texas ranch, or Obama shooting hoops or Reagan sitting on a horse.” ARE NOT IMAGES!!

These REAL LIFE activities were things that all of these men (these Presidents) ACTUALLY DID in their REAL everyday lives!! ESPECIALLY when there were NO CAMERAS even around!!

Absolutely UNLIKE a completely STAGED “publicity fueled photo opportunity” that was just another attempt by a KNOWN LIAR to commit another fraud on the public-at-large!!!

    ABSOLUTELY A MAJOR DIFFERENCE

These men and there REAL LIFE activities were nothing like the FAKE, LIAR that is Mr Paul Wannabe-Rand!!!

    ************************************************
Furthermore as a testament to these FACTS …it isn’t everyday (if EVER) that you would find me saying ANYTHING to defend G. W. BUSH!!! So you absolutely must know what I’m saying is TRUE!!

    Jus Sayin….. LoLoL

  27. Jay Says:

If Miit wins we will know that half the voters enjoy being lied to. The other half will never believe a word Mitt says. That does not bode well for anything remotely resembling solutions.

  28. Kenneth Says:

The thing is Obama actually does play basketball … regularly

  29. Jimmy Says:

I am a little confused. You are blaming conservatives for trying to resist the indoctrination caused by the liberal bias of our government schools and liberal colleges and universities by promoting conservatism and religion in their colleges.

Yeah, I guess they are! A lot of people logically blame this liberal bias on an inherent liberal bias in primary and secondary public schools and teachers unions are considered by many a causal factor.

Every research study I have seen on the political affiliations of educators shows an vast majority of them are liberals, so it is rather amusing to hear your whining when the other side tries to fight back.

With respect to hypocrisy it is clear that there is a lot of hypocrisy on both sides. Anthony Weiner and Bill Clinton come to mind. Hypocrisy by some does not detract from the fact that many conservatives have a legitimate moral code which is often absent or replaced by situational ethics based in those of a more liberal bent.

In other words in many cases liberal morals are based upon their personal potential consequences in a particular situation with no moral absolutes. That is the real meaning of a secular society.

Conservatives pay taxes to support public schools and rightly are legitimately very upset about this bias that completely ignores their legitimate perspectives on ethics and morality.

  30. Larry Says:

Why doesn’t Ryan have a charity where he actually does volunteer, even if just twice a year, that he could take photogs to and get a little extra publicity for the charity?

Or is he strictly the I-sit-on-the-board-of-directors kind of volunteer?

Or maybe he’s too busy sculpting his pecs to actually do anything for anyone else?

(Only a small percentage of volunteers will stand still for a camera; most scamper away because their volunteer work is not about them!)
    .

  31. Randy Says:

Mitt has some serious flaws. Either he has changed course drastically on a whim, or else he’s lying.

He’ been pro-choice, then pro-life, then pro-choice again, and now he’s pro-life again. But they vast majority f the pro-life crowd is happy to believe that he is really pro-life now. W T F? I suppose if he reverts back to being pro-choice again they’ll be okay with that too!

  32. Bob Says:

Benghazi security was a mistake. My best guess is that Stevens didn’t want increased security. Not his style. Hillary was OK with it, or was just uninformed (about Lybia, Really?).

Does it matter what an ambassador wants, vs what is good for the country? So, that kills her chances in 2016. So, who is in the pipeline? Biden? Really? It’s a failure at State.

Obama has to deal with it. Throwing a Clinton under the bus is a problem. But he should. He has spent 4 years cleaning up Clinton messes (OK Bushes even more). DADT, DOMA, NAFTA,……etc, etc, etc….. Hillary is likely to be history.

  33. Kaye Says:

Clinton and Weiner did not try to sell themselves as paragons of virtue as the right wing politicians do to lure low information, social conservative voters. That is the source of the hypocrisy.

At least we’ll likely see less of D’Souza’s plutocrat hallucinations for the rest of the campaign season.

  34. Lois Says:

Ryan cut funding for the security for American ambassadors.

  35. Kaplan Says:

    GREAT point.

Most actual volunteers I know are concentrating on ‘getting it done right’, and not screwing anything up.

They almost never have time to pose.

  36. John Says:

You liberals are going to eat shit when Romney gets elected just try to keep up.

  37. Charley Says:

Right Wingers want you to do as they say, not do as they do,breaking the rules belong to them.

  38. Bob Says:

If Obama were are true liberal things might me different..or not. How do you justify the bank bailouts without imposing real controls? Bail out the banks and do noting for the homeowners who suffered?

Or the neighborhoods left derelict by the banks? No. Have the outrageous interest rates on credit cards really decreased? No. Have the tax rates that caused the deficit and debt changed? Not really…. Are the stupid wars over? No, not really either.

Obama is a failure. Too few give a crap about their health insurance. And those that don’t don’t want to pay for those that do. Can Romney fix it? Of course NOT. He has no interest in fixing anything than the making the rich richer and corporations “people”.

The poor and even the middle class are a negative on his spread sheet. Obama is sooooo far from perfect. But, again, the (marginally) best of two evils……….

  39. Frank Says:

Well, I guess that means that Democrats are lily pure and would never break rules. I seem to remember a recent conviction of an Democratic Illinois governor for trying to trade a Senate seat for profit. Guess those employees of SEIU convicted of voter registration fraud in the last election were Republicans? I think not.

How about paying demonstrators $11 an hour to show up and pretend they are concerned citizens at political rallys? How about lying about Libya? How about lying about Fast and Furious?

How about lying about closing Gitmo? How about lying about negotiations on health care reform being on CSPAN? How about lying about giving five days for public comments before signing the health care bill? I could go on and on, but it is clear your comment is biased.

  40. Mickey Says:

The cynicism of this whole Ryan fiasco is shocking.

No charity wants you in its kitchen, unless you want to quickly greet workers and thank them and be on your way and out of the way. There’s liability in having unauthorized people in places where the water can boil your skin, the knives are sharp, and the footing sometimes slippery!

Anyone who’s ever worked in a kitchen like this spotted the fraud instantly — geez, they were wearing spotless aprons, cleaning obviously spotless pots in a spotless place where everything was already washed and tucked up and — just to be perfectly, preciously pretentious about the whole thing — Ryan ACTED like he was polishing one tiny spot on one of the large pots as if it were a prized piece of Le Creuset cookware! No one was sweating.

Photo op seekers aren’t really welcome in most charity situations unless the shot can be tightly cropped and only those who want to be seen are included.

The people who come to eat are not there to be part of someone’s public spectacle, and they deserve privacy as much as anyone else who sits down to eat.

Ryan’s behavior was fraudulent, cheesy, boorish, and disrespectful to clients and staff alike.

But who would expect more of him!

  41. Yolanda Says:

I guess Ryan chose a time when the place was deserted so he didn’t have to come into contact with any actual poor people.

  42. Kerry Says:

The president has tried, but his policies haven’t worked. He’s great as a speaker and describing his plans and his vision. That’s wonderful, except we have a record to look at.

And that record shows he just hasn’t been able to cut the deficit, to put in place reforms for Medicare and Social Security to preserve them, to get us the rising incomes we need. Median income is down $4,300 a family and 23 million Americans out of work.

That’s what this election is about. It’s about who can get the middle class in this country a bright and prosperous future and assure our kids the kind of hope and optimism they deserve.

  43. Jimmy Says:

    David:

Absolutely correct! Thank you for letting the rest of America know how phony this truly was.

  44. Lanson Says:

Thanks for stopping by. I can understand why you might feel this way. These continue to be hard times. But: the US is in better shape than any country in Europe because of the president’s policies and its in better shape than when he came into office (2) the collapse of this country was due to policies perilously close to the fantasy MItt Romney proposes:

Cut taxes for the rich and hope it trickles down to everyone else. It doesn’t. That’s a fallacy pushed on the American people for eight years of horrible job growth and debt under Bush. We don’t need more (3) things are getting better …

they are moving slowly in part because of the depth of the recession when the president took office, in part because he wasn’t bold enough in calling for a more aggressive stimulus and in part because the Republicans in Congress have from the very first day done somersaults to block absolutely anything he proposed. Going forward to the Bush past isn’t a solution in my view.

  45. Gene Says:

I was always told to hire the Mormon…you can always trust them…Mitt Romeny has shot that myth down..I’ve never heard so many lies in my life..This guy will tell you a Lie , even if the truth would sound better..

  46. Butler Says:

Howard Hughes was famous for using Mormons as his accountants and personal assistants because he believed they were so honest that they would never steal from him.

It turned out that the Mormons were robbing him blind

  47. Lilly Says:

Why Does Sexual Hypocrisy Flourish in the Fundamental Islam?

  48. Marvin Says:

The Republicans have never been very good pouncers. Obama’s record of accomplishments is his worst enemy. Your list of Obama’s accomplishments are mostly my list of his failures.

You forgot his raging success at increasing the debt limit, his lack of a coherent foreign policy, his disastrous energy policy, green money giveaway debacle, etc. Obama predicted his own defeat early on when he said he would either be successful with his economic policies or be a one term president.

He hasn’t produced that success. Worse, he has called what he did a success and promised four more years of the same.
A reasonable man would vote for Romney.
    Marvin

  49. Reggie Says:

“Sometimes someone may realize that White House is not fit, by temperament, psychology, or motive, to be leading this great nation.
The president has tried, but his policies haven’t worked. He’s great as a speaker and describing his plans and his vision.

There are more people in poverty, one out of six people in poverty. How about food stamps? When he took office, 32 million people were on food stamps.

Today, 47 million people are on food stamps. How about the growth of the economy? It’s growing more slowly this year than last year, and more slowly last year than the year before. That is TRUE! :)

  50. Joseph Says:

Romney is a flat out liar, I guess 47% of the people want to be lied to. The GOP is a party of bad ideas and the dems are a party of no ideas. Why is it that people think the president is omnipotent?

He can only submit or suggest legislation but has to be sponsored then sent to the appropriate committee for research then put on calendar and voted on.

If you knew how politics work you’d know that the GOP controlled house has voted against everything the president has tried to accomplish. Both parties were arguing last year over minute details on the debt limit while we suffered, literally sending the stock market in the toilet.

I’m neither dem or rep as this vetaran has never voted. Both parties are full of it and i honestly believe he is going to get us into another war directly or by backing Israel (entangling alliances). They should solve their own problems.

  51. Nina Says:

Why is it that those on the right seem to think that because a person is a progressive or leans left or is a humanist that we are all lying, cheating, murderous monsters with no moral core?

Why are we such a threat to them? I don’t have to be “God Fearing” (never understood that term anyway) to know that deliberately hurting another person is wrong. I don’t have to be religious to know that stealing and lying are wrong.

I don’t have to believe in a virgin birth or a resurrection to know that being kind and compassionate and willing to help others is right. The author is correct in that it’s not the things people like D’Souza do that are so aggravating, it’s the hypocrisy of them telling anyone else how “evil” or “bad” they are while doing the exact same or worse.

Yet when you point this out all you get in return is “well, your guys are so much worse than our guys” as if we are a bunch of children in a schoolyard saying “I know you are but what am I?” and sticking our tongues out at each other.

Naively I’m sure, I have to echo the now deceased Rodney King. “Can’t we all just get along?”

  52. Marvin Says:

Joseph, I understand your displeasure with political parties. I don’t belong to one because I believe political parties are causing much of the world’s problems. However, One of two political parties has been in control of government since the Democratic Party was thrown together by Martin Van Buren in the 1830′s. I have to use what I have to deal with what there is, and political parties are here to stay.

Obama’s poor excuse for a foreign policy is likely to get us into a war by default. Romney’s policy must develop but it appears he knows we need something besides an inexperienced personal reaction to national threats.

I am a retired GI; I have been in a war, and I want no war. If you think Obama has foreign policy experience, look at the way he has handled the Benghazi debacle. I’m betting on Romney for a more structured and reasonable foreign policy.
    Marvin

  53. Alma Says:

Mitt’s lying? There’s no end in sight –
Up is down, day is night, wrong is right.
    If his lies were food,
    Nourishing and good,
    World hunger’d be cured overnight!

  54. Brad Says:

Well, the Latin expression Q.E.D. pretty much explains it. When we see daily examples of lying, cheating, and corruption on the part of Obama and his minions in both the administration and organizations like SEIU it kind of reenforces our opinion that Democrats are lying, cheating, corrupt people.

It sure seems that no slander is too gross and untrue for them. Examples abound, but one example is the political ad that accused Romney of actions that directly led to the death of a workers wife.

Turned out to be patently false, but Obama an election offiical never apologized and flat out lied about even knowing about it and was caught on tape. Another one was Biden’s lie about Romney not paying taxes.

Turned out to a despicable lie, but did old Joe admit it to the lie or apologize. Hell, no! The opinion on the part of a lot of those of us who are not waco liberals is that no matter how obvious the lying, cheating, and corruption it seems virtually no Democrats or Obama supporters will condemn it.

In fact the Obama officials, as detailed above, flat out refuse to do so. When I find that a Conservative is doing this type of thing I sure will call them out on it and sure would not vote for them. Got the picture now?

  55. Yolanda Says:

There are now reports that say that Ryan actually washed DIRTY pots and pans… which seems rather unlikely, since the meal was over and the facility was closed. Who leaves dirty pots and pans behind under those conditions? Only if your purpose is to attract cockroaches.

  56. Brittany Says:

“Fraud” is the mildest term I can think of for Ryan’s shameless display, but isn’t it a perfect metaphor for the abject phoniness of the Romney/Ryan campaign?

  57. Mary Says:

I think you need to look at whitehouse.gov to see the President’s plans. He’s talked about them. He’s got them in writing. He’s presented them to congress and the senate.

He’s presented them to the people. He was drowned out by republicans like Paul Ryan with his devastating plan for giving what little is not in the hands of the wealthy to the wealthy and by the gluttonously rich like the Koch Bros working to buy an election to reduce oversight that protects citizens from their environmental disasters.

Our president deserves the chance he has not fully experienced – though I would point out that I for one am damn glad that he put a Healthcare act in place and that he signed the Lily Ledbetter law and that he saved the auto industry and that he ended “don’t ask don’t tell” and more and more. You can bet I’ll be proud yes very proud to vote for him. And I know many others who feel the same way.

  58. Nina Says:

Wow it’s no wonder this country is messed up with this kind of logic out there. Basically this article says because we caught the person, claiming this activity is wrong, doing that very activity then there must be nothing wrong with the activity.

So following this logic let’s say a police officer works homicide. He goes out and catches people who have comitted murder. Brings them to court where they are tried and sentenced. Now one night he comes home finds his wife with another man and shoots and kills the man.

Suddenly it is now ok to kill people because the very person we relied on to catch these people did it himself. All the murders go free. The law means nothing now. Is that how it is?

  59. Jerry Says:

That’s why I call it the Muted Truth Mary. The president should be talking about his accomplishments AND plans, not leave them on a website. I think he’s had a lot of good ideas.
I don’t believe he has communicated them all that well.

  60. Mildred Says:

While a great deal of my ire has been directed at Ryan, you’re right. The media that was present, was in cahoots with this devilish scheme of Ryan’s to appear to be something he is not.

The conspirators should be ashamed for allowing themselves to be a part of this vile act. As for Ryan, he has no shame, and his placing a well-respected charity in the cross-hairs may have been, to him and his campaign, a welcomed secondary result.

The primary being – him looking like he gives a damn. All he proved is what I have known all along – he doesn’t.

  61. Alfonso Says:

Exactly, the press aided and abetted in fraud.

  62. Shelba Says:

You’re right on, Jerry. When you tell that to Republicans they put their hands over their ears and say, “la la la, I can’t hear you”!

  63. Juanita Says:

Mitt Romney not merely lies, his whole “new” persona as a moderate is a political scam. Calling him a flim flam man may be an insult to con men.

  64. Luna Says:

Nina, That’s not what the article says at all! The article condemns those with the “do as I say, not as I do” attitude, those who preach righteousness, then get caught doing exactly what they preached against. No one said he was justified in cheating on his wife.

Nor is marital infidelity comparable in any way with murder!

Your reading comprehension is lacking, your understanding of logic is limited, and your analogy is off base.

  65. Will Says:

    Remember:
    1) The left loves “hypocrisy” and “intolerance” being the cardinal sins or our age. This allows left-wingers to be hateful and intolerant of people they deem intolerant. This also puts the focus on other people’s not living up to high standards instead of their abandonment of standards altogether.

    2) Most of the people here are filled to the rim with hate. Don’t disagree until you have actually spent time on the thread reading. They think they are justified in their hate because–you guessed it, their hate objects are guilty of intolerance and hypocrisy.

    3) Over and over on this thread, Bill Clinton’s sin is excused because “he didn’t preach.” This, in spite of the obvious abuse of his position of authority and the ample evidence (including sworn testimony) of his sexual battery. (look it up, twenty-somethings)

    4) No serious attempt was made to fact check this story.

  66. Ronin Says:

Keeping score on the sexual dalliance front is a useless endeavor. We all get a good laugh when the guys on the other side take one in the shorts, but the hypocrisy on the Right is what sets them apart.

If you believe in a final judgement, the hypocrites are not the ones getting into heaven.

  67. Blue Says:

That would explain why the aprons are IRONED! (Check those creases!)

  68. Morgan Says:

Ryan and his handlers have effectively undermined that charity and it’s service to 100K hungry people a year. It has been reported that major donors have pulled out from the charity and will no longer contribute.

//snark// Ryan’s team: Mission Accomplished. 100K down in one photo op.

  69. Mala Says:

Well, to walk back your statements a little bit, there are definitely some who say “infidelity” isn’t necessarily out of bounds, but it isn’t the religious making such statements, which is why the hypocrisy is noted. It would be quite a different situation if the person in question promoted open marriages.

  70. Yolanda Says:

Just think what they can do to the country if they get some actual power.

  71. Gene Says:

Sorry, Paul…But.!.Re-Washing Pots and Pans isn’t a vote getter…As Ayn Rand would say…Never wash someone else’s Pots and Pans.. Not even after they had washed them themselves..

  72. Colbert Says:

I think the difference is the right tries to legislate morality.

  73. Delores Says:

More people need to do research and find out why religion seems to be male dominated and then maybe one can understand better why it is filled with hypocrisy.

  74. Abbie Says:

The left didn’t care about Clinton’s infidelity for a simple reason, it is none of their business, and as long as Clinton didn’t base his entire career on the fidelity of others, then it is mutual.

The stuff hits the fan, however, when the person in question DOES base their career on demonizing the fidelity of others…which Dinesh did.

I hope you grasp the difference. I don’t really care what sordid details are involved, however, if he is going to lecture others on their coming and goings, then the color of the pot should be compared to the color of the kettle.

  75. Helga Says:

Wow, just wow. Can I get a hear, hear?? This post wasn’t what I was expecting, but Amen.

I particularly liked, “It’s the fetish for moralizing, sermonizing, and finger-wagging that sets our teeth on edge. Particularly when it ossifies into laws that make it impossible for many women to manage their reproductive lives or prevents loving partners from getting hitched.”

    Excellent.

  76. Ζηναις Says:

I am not justifying anyone’s behavior; however do you have to be an angel to condemn another person’s behavior. I get the laws and such but does it really make a difference who comes up with something that may be beneficial to society.

I think a very difficult concept to grasp for many, concerning the Christian religion is its allowance for sin. Maybe this is seen as hypocritical but the Christian faith has an entire process involving, sin, repentance, and forgiveness- think Fallen Man.

Many posters here listed numerous people on the left side of the equation that have committed immoral acts. Perhaps this has less to do with religious affiliation and more do with being a human being. I think society needs to have some standards, we should stick to the what they are not who thought of them.

  77. Frances Says:

Well since fraud is the word of the day for this article. After 2 local newspaper reporters and the local TV station follow up let’s check our fraud list : Antal claims to be an Independent – Has been voting in Democrat Primaries as a registered Democrat voter since 1995.

Ramrodded their way in – During a TV interview the volunteer whom authorized the visit produced the forms she requested to be completed and signed by Ryan Campaign reps hours before Mr Ryan’s appearance. Dirty dishes/Not Dirty dishes – Antal wasn’t even there and passed on 2nd hand info unconfirmed.

All follow up reports show that the 2 volunteers shadowing Ryan said that yes those were dirty dishes being washed during the photo op. What’s the bigger and spitefully negative fraud ?

  78. Mars Says:

Hinduism is the perfect philosophy for Wall Street. Look at India from the eyes of a Hindu, a overpopulated nation with a small powerful elite and millions of starving peasants, and you see why Indian immigrants are so welcome and why they are placed into key leadership positions.

Their philosophy is completely against the idea of shared sacrifice or community. They believe in a narrow self-interest that puts family over community. That has a massive appeal to the Ayn Rand types.

  79. Brian Says:

    Important:

To all those on the right trying to tell us that we on the left have illicit sex too.

The whole point was not about that.

It is about being so bold as to publicly proclaim your own purity and attempting to restrict the sexual practices of others, while privately committing the ‘sins’ that you rail against yourself.

Hypocrisy… if you can’t see it, you’re probably doing it.

  80. Flores Says:

I love how no one has the guts to try and reply to your post with any kind of retort. Its like they forget how to type all of a sudden when presented with facts that don’t fit with what they saw “reported” on this site or MSNBC.

  81. Yolanda Says:

Perhaps you’re not paying attention: the place was closed and the pots and pans WASHED. No one leaves dirty pots and pans laying around in a kitchen. It doesn’t really matter what was signed “hours before”… if the word didn’t get passed down, they weren’t expected.

  82. Mary Says:

This is the biggest reason why I can’t abide the way Republicans handle charity. If they can’t be SEEN doing it, or make everyone THINK they do it, they won’t do it.

They may as well be going around with a huge megaphone strapped to their mouth, blatting away about how generous they are.

  83. Julie Says:

“This strange system where males are celestial beings and women are nasty creatures whose bodies reek of dirty sex.”

Funny how this alien world you describe is the exact opposite of our culture.

  84. Luna Says:

You must live under a rock. Go watch some porn and you might comprehend that our culture certainly does think women are “nasty creatures whose bodies reek of dirty sex.”

In the overwhelming bulk of porn that’s out there, the women might as well be lobotomized for all the attention the men pay to their needs and feelings. They’re treated as objects with conveniently-shaped holes.

When you’re done with that task, move on to advertising where women are presented as either sex objects or maids. The sex objects are Photoshopped to impossible perfection. The maids are presented as frumpy and undesirable.

Then recall which gender runs the porn and advertising industries. Hint: it’s not women.

  85. Brian Says:

Not for long, if they get their way, my friend. Not for long.

  86. Maynard Says:

and, he financially hurt the soup kitchen. After his fiasco, they started losing donations. So he got his photo, the poor people lose

  87. Juanita Says:

So you’re talking about how women are portrayed in art? Specifically pornography and advertising?

I’m referring to reality, Ma’am. Where women call men pigs, say that we sleep with anything that walks, call us all potential rapists that need special training to learn “how not to rape.”

A reality where if a man is accused of rape he is already considered guilty and if a woman is convicted of rape we let her off easy. A world with a presumption of male guilt and universal female victimhood.

A world where a woman can kill a man and claim abuse with no evidence and walk but if the same struck her back in his own defense he would be labeled a batterer and sent to prison.

Welcome to the real world, Ma’am.

  88. Sera Says:

Yes – that’s why they said they would not have allowed it for ANY campaign. But because they objected to Ryan doing it (because HE’S the one who did the “ramrodding”) they’ve been getting hate mail and donations pulled by Republicans.
