Flap Your Lips Friday

Good morning.
This girl has been on my mind when I go to sleep at night and when I wake up. I just can’t seem to get the vision of her out of my head, imagining what the last few hours of her life must’ve been like. I’m speaking of the young girl from India who weeks ago was brutally beaten and raped by 6 men on a bus…and eventually taken by death while struggling to survive in the hospital. She died from a heart attack, and the fact that her body could not handle the disgusting abuse from having a metal pole shoved inside of her ruining her organs and ripping out her intestines. That is the sick reality of it, from the abuse of sick men in a country where incidents such as these recur with painful regularity.
Where is the love of women? Where is the protection of women?
Not in India, and it is certainly not showing up in our own country. Yesterday the GOP let women down once again.
House GOP Lets Violence Against Women Act Passed By Senate Die Without A Vote
WASHINGTON — Despite a late-stage intervention by Vice President Joe Biden, House Republican leaders failed to advance the Senate’s 2012 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, an embattled bill that would have extended domestic violence protections to 30 million LGBT individuals, undocumented immigrants and Native American women.
“The House leadership would not bring it up, just like they wouldn’t bring up funding for Sandy [hurricane damage] last night,” said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), a key backer of the Senate version of the bill, in an interview with HuffPost. “I think they are still so kowtowing to the extreme on the right that they’re not even listening to the moderates, and particularly the women, in their caucus who are saying they support this.”
In April, the Senate with bipartisan support passed a version of VAWA that extended protections to three groups of domestic violence victims who had not been covered by the original law, but House Republicans refused to support the legislation with those provisions, saying the measures were politically driven. Instead, they passed their own VAWA bill without the additional protections. In recent weeks, however, even some House Republicans who voted for the pared-down House bill have said they would now support the broader Senate bill — and predicted it would pass if Republican leaders let it come to the floor for a vote.
“I absolutely would support the Senate bill,” Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) told HuffPost in late December, speculating that other House Republicans, namely GOP congresswomen, “are very supportive of that.”
Asked if he thought the Senate bill would pass in the House if it came up for a vote, Cole replied, “My judgment is yes.”
Last spring, only two of the 25 House Republican women — Reps. Judy Biggert (Ill.) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Fla.). — opposed the House VAWA reauthorization, on the grounds that it didn’t go far enough. But in the last couple of weeks, some others signaled they would now support the broader Senate bill.
“I think that we should be very open-minded about the Senate provisions,” said Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.).
“I would be in that category of being open-minded to that,” said Rep. Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) had been guiding House negotiations on the matter, huddling with Republican congresswomen last month and even working directly with Biden to try to get a deal. House-Senate talks appeared to have broken down over House Republicans’ refusal to accept a key protection for Native American women that was included in the Senate bill.
“Majority Leader Cantor worked hard seeking to move the bill forward so we can protect victims and prosecute offenders,” said Cantor spokesman Doug Heye.
Murray said she is “absolutely” planning to reintroduce the bill in 2013. If the Republican Party is concerned about its relationship with women, she added, it should “put that concern to action.”
“They have the opportunity to do it now,” Murray said. “They have the opportunity to take up this bill and show women and men that they understand that women’s rights are important.”
Readers: We have women in India screaming and protesting for protection. And yet we still have women here voting for republicans, men who don’t give a damn about our sisters.(!) I am so sick of the GOP’s excuses, saying that the reason they are not supporting something is because it is politically driven. They would never use this term if it was something affecting their own livelihood. But when it comes to women…oh they can wait.
How much more will republican women take from their men before they say it is enough, and leave the party who cares little about women, a party who only wants to control them? Really, I want to hear from you. What excuse do you have? Because the women in India have had enough. They are brutalized everyday. Don’t think that if men here had the chance to rape as they please, they wouldn’t jump on the opportunity here to abuse and rape any woman…OTW or white. Are you going to give them the opportunity? Where is the support to protect our sisters?
Blog me.
Carlos: Thanks for taking the article and breaking it down into simple logic and fact. Obama is killing the GOP. They would support him more if he was a inept president, one that didn’t outshine all the past presidents and give OTW’s HOPE that they too have a chance to be in the White House. Yep, they would’ve loved it if he only had lasted one term – Obama – his presidency was just a “fluke.” But the fact that he got voted in again for a second term and has now proved once again that he is far superior to his 43 previous white predecessors, is just unbearable to the GOP.
OTW’s now know that it wasn’t just a “fluke” that Obama won the first time around. Now they know…they have the confidence, that this can be done again by an OTW. The repubs can’t stand that fact alone. They want no OTW to ever think that this could happen again. God forbid another OTW in the White House?! No!! Oh…but it can and it will, and the thought that it could be again is just unfathomable. Why else would they do everything in their power, including ruining our country and the world economy, to stop Obama.
On a side note…I’m going to give Lawrence O’Donnell a plug again because last night I watched The Last Word and I thought his rewrite segment “Why it was BFD for Republicans to raise taxes” was exceptionally perceptive. O’Donnell knows what it is like to deal with Repubs on a daily basis – he did it himself. A good watch if you want more clarity on Obama’s brilliance.
Peace out.

Hi Misch, Happy New Year to you and everyone here.
I’ve been waiting for the commentary on this Indian woman, thank you, I am upset that animals like this aren’t hung by their f-ing toenails to die a very slow painful death…and I abhor violence…though it has done one thing, kicked open the door on this kind of sick behavior and I’m hoping it will garner the attention it deserves for the global sisters (including our own American females who insist on being repug…still…).
Speaking of ZL and rabbit holes – I’ve been deep in the rabbit hole once again – about mind control and remote viewing, makes daily politics and what’s being touted as news seem like a diversion at best…the powers that run the media know exactly what they’re doing. I’m sure Mike TM and/or Anonz can attest to that. I wrote a blog post almost 4 years ago, the media worldwide is run mostly by 7-8 companies so they own what you get to think about, know about and how much you get to know and think about any given thing. Lucky for us we have people in the streets with technology (phones) to take pictures/videos and even they get pulled from YouTube very quickly if it’s deemed ‘too TMI’ – hmm, it makes me very thankful we get the real two cents ocasionally from Howie about aliens, MikeTM and Anonz and others on political scene…The Maddow’s and O’Donnell’s have to work very hard to get the info and disclose it as they do, I admire all that fall into that knowledgable (yet subversive to repugs) category for doing what they do…about remote viewing, before I complete my research I’ll give you one word: Russia. OK, 2 words: Putin.

Sorry to the bleeding hearts, but no human doctrine that can support less than death for these monsters.
Personally, I am ambiguous about the death penalty, because I think that it is frequently applied arbitrarily. In this case, as in others in the USA, I HAVE NO DOUBT. Apart from shielding obvious murderers, the state would be on hook for supporting these people for the rest of their natural lives: three meals a day, excellent medical care, legal support, the possibility of parole.
Can Indian society, or any other, afford this? Isn’t the law supposed to deter?
It sounds cruel, but previous societies simply executed the perpetrator within weeks. That, I am sorry to say, sends the precise and necessary example to those who consider or commit such horrible crimes.
My major sticking point is that people who commit war crimes (read: Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, LBJ, many other governments) who recklessly send people to their deaths, and are not held accountable.
They ought to be. They ought to be held under hospital arrest and given psychological treatment at minimum. Maybe they would change their opinions living under a hospital ward.
So, whether you are for or against my opinions, I at least try to stay even-handed. Certainly I can say, immune, that I belong to no polical party or cause.

I am Canadian but just want to say, what’s up with the Republicans? They are mean spirited and don’t want to help people.
I think many are Christian extremists, but why don’t they do as Jesus said and love their neighbors as themselves, turn the other cheek and do unto others as they would have them do unto them?
January 4th, 2013 at 8:41 pm
I wonder if more men had the crap beat out of them regularly and were able to get pregnant – I’m sure there would be a whole lot more support not just for VAWA but for equal rights!
GOTP LOSERS!!

I have a question.
Why is it important to help women here? Wouldn’t it be better to help people from abuse, regardless to whether or notthey’remale/female/native american/gay/trans/whatever? Not saying that what the GOP did was right, but why do just the women need more protection?
January 4th, 2013 at 8:54 pm
Clayon, Do you understand what this bill covers?
It’s not about generic violence.
It’s about heinous culturally historical acts like female genital mutilation and foot binding. It explicitly exists because courts have attempted to use “Culture” as an excuse for the acts to be done. And this helps women in these situations get effective legal counsel.
Saying this act is sexist is like saying Declaration of Independence is racist because it only covered the 13 colonies independence, and no other British colonies.
January 4th, 2013 at 8:56 pm
Clayton, because it protects against specific types of violence which the courts refused to prosecute for cultural reasons, and those cultural standards included them being directed towards women.
Actually Clayton you’re just an idiot. You question is like asking ‘why doesn’t the Equal Access act require handicap stalls for ALL people?’
January 4th, 2013 at 8:58 pm
Clayton, because it protects against specific types of violence which the courts refused to prosecute for cultural reasons, and those cultural standards included them being directed towards women.
But this isn’t actually a pre-req for receiving assistance dollars tied to this law, right? I mean, you don’t have to prove that a court has used cultural reasons to refuse to prosecute the person that victimized you before being able to access the services this law provides, do you? I’m almost positive that you don’t.
IF I am correct in this assumption, then it ISN’T just for support for people that have been fucked by the courts for cultural reasons, despite claims made by its supporters. Instead, it is for a much more general group of people that have been the victims of domestic or sexual violence.
January 4th, 2013 at 8:59 pm
Yes, many specific types of protection are tied to this particular bill. For instance, it authorizes a limited number of visas for women who are living and working in the country but aren’t citizens, who otherwise cannot go to the police for protection for fear of deportation.
January 4th, 2013 at 9:01 pm
Clayton or should I say shit for brains. Why is it important to help women here?
Because.
If men wanted more politicians to care about their plight they should stop dying young or being incarcerated in massive numbers or otherwise removing themselves from the voting pool.
Idiot when was the last time you heard that a bunch of women gang raped a man? Get a life you ignorant piece of shit.
January 4th, 2013 at 9:02 pm
Exactly my thoughts, Lois.
January 4th, 2013 at 9:03 pm
Clayton, Duh women are more often the victims of dangerous levels of domestic violence and are less able to protect themselves than men, on average.
January 4th, 2013 at 9:04 pm
Clayton, It’s obviously a conspiracy by the female illuminati. Now you are marked for death by their sex-sassins. At least you will die thinking you will lose your virginity.
