Never miss a good chance to shut up

Posted by michellemoquin on June 30th, 2008

Good morning(?)

I am dragging myself out of bed this morning.  It was a helluva night with crazy dreams of my good friend Tom Bailey , who passed a way some time ago, and a childhood friend Rigzin, that I have known since I was seven, that I don’t really talk to anymore. Throw in the fact that our smoke alarm in the hallway was beeping, ‘I need a new battery’, every god only knows how long, that woke me up every time.  Doug was his typical, sleep through everything state, while I tried to find Zen.  I did and I want to share it with you. It is about all I can contribute this morning to my blog as my eyes are barely open and my mind is thoughtless – yes! The key to a quiet mind is to get so damn tired, your mind goes on vacation.

So…here it is from my good friend Maharishi:

I hope that your Monday started off a lot better than mine.  I’m off for a good strong chai and something rich and totally fattening to stuff in my mouth.

Hey ZL: Did you like the above? -made me think of you. :)

Hi Adam:  I do want to continue with our conversation but this morning I feel totally incapable and incapacitated – sorry it is not going to be the day for me to respond. Please feel free to add any more delightful tidbits about dear Heracles if you choose.

Okay, this is my chance to shut up, so I will – See ya all MAÑANA!

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle  ?

Hi Michelle, hahaha, so glad you thought of me bc the above is the code of conduct I live by! hahaha, most important factor being #-ah, whatever that last one is…and I do manage to achieve a state of Zen most of the time and waste no time on depressing thoughts. I am in the midst of practicing the art of shutting the f**k up myself, except here and on my blog, hahaha, I must be totally unnerving in real life, no words, just laughing, hmmm, maybe she’s a street screamer now…

Adam, Michelle might be tired but i’m not so I have a few q’s and comments to make re: Hercules tale. Your words are in ‘here’ and mine are after…
‘…Zeus’s promise from occurring, and she did. This was one of the first tales that showed that any man’s plan could be prevented by a woman’s desire to alter it…’

Adam, this info scares the s**t out of men, doesn’t it? It’s a control issue and men can’t hang with being out of control for more than two minutes. Hmmm, so, my assessment that if men could just cop to the fact that without us they’d be screwed and just hope they meet a good woman who will love them anyway is good advice, yes?
One caveat: despite that knowledge, it requires a woman of strength and good sense of fair play : ) and it also requires a man of exceptional intelligence and sensitivity, (do those two qualities co-exist for men), or maybe the question is, do to societal pressure, could a man ever cop to having both traits? I tend to think they do but they’re too busy posturing for position or something probably not worth having most of the time : )

‘…The subconscious implication was that women were smarter. Hence they had to be controlled. Notice that Hera never used her sexual wiles to accomplish anything she wanted done. She used her mind. It was only with Christianity and Islam that it was alluded to that the only way women could thwart the will of man was through her sexual wiles. Hence she had to be controlled to prevent her from her evil ways. The implication being it was evil for a woman to thwart the will of a man…the story sought to portray what would happen if women were equal to men and who they would influence most. The companionship of men to and for men was laid down to give man the subconscious concepts that he has today; Women are inherently a distraction or impediment to the accomplishments of man…’

I hate that idea, that men consider women a distraction/impediment, could explain why some men treat some women badly though…how would you suggest a change of attitude, on either sexes side, that would change that way of thinking? Or can it be changed? Is it ordained by the Gods(aliens, whoever) that that’s just the way it is and nothing would change the outcome anyway?

‘…The big strong guy that could attract women and fuck like a horse was portrayed as the least desirable of creatures in the manly world of men. That too is continually droned into the human psyche, today by most civilized ideologies…’ seriously, I thought a man like this was revered by other men as a stud or something like that. No, not true??

I guess I’m done, and bc I should get a friggin’ job I should stop procrastinating and go do that!

& men, I have a suggestion for handling #20, just don’t start an argument to begin with, pretty simple, ask questions instead, you just might get a handle on our often baffling behavior : ) hahaha, God I’m so glad I amuse myself so much.

  3. TAO Says:

    Zen Lill

First, let me clear up for all time. No aliens have done anything to influence either sex positively or negatively towards the other. And while I can’t speak for the Gods, logic would dictate that neither would the Gods.

As I see it from a practical application, only a woman can change the behavior of man towards a woman. The caveat being that she can not do this in a society that forces her to be unequal either by man’s law or god’s law.

However, even in those countries, women can change things, if women in the countries that seek to give them equality work to free their sisters in the countries where they are oppressed.

But first let me address your original question. “how would you suggest a change of attitude, on either sexes side, that would change that way of thinking? Or can it be changed? Again it can be changed in countries that claim to provide equal opportunities for women. The women must make a conscious effort to instruct their sons to respect women. And they must not allow their husbands or other males to disrespect them in the presence of those sons.

They must instruct their daughters to try anything they wish. They must remind their daughters that if they are not diligent boys will seek to belittle their opinions and reserve for themselves the leadership positions in all parts of societies levels. They must begin to leave the bulk of their estates to their daughters. They must become politically savvy and constantly expose their daughters to the political process. Not doing so leaves the daughter to subconsciously rely on men for her security and demure to men for political acumen.

It is much easier to bring up a male to see females as his equal than it is to change the male who thinks women are to be tolerated but not taken seriously. It is as Madaline said when I approached her for her insight on this topic, a sign of how well the american male has indoctrinated the american female when american women don’t complain about the fact that the us is 56% female, but the Supreme Court has but one female.

She is correct by representation the Supreme Court should have at least five women on it. Yet, as she pointed out, no women’s movement made a peep when another male was appointed without a serious consideration for a woman.

What does that say to all the little girls out there? They will be one day be surrounded by eight or more men who will consider her opinion, too, a distraction at best and more likely an impediment to the men’s judicial judgement.

Women will have to make up their minds to speak up now. Or leave it to their ill equipped mentally daughters to speak up for their right to be represented equally on tthe Supreme Court. The bench that has the final word on equality. If you are not equal, you are not equal.

As for the big strong guy issue. Of course every virile man wants to be the big strong guy that attracts women and can fuck like a horse. But, since most aren’t, their survival in the mating game has them constructing for the female’s consumption(no male would believe this bullshit) the brains over brawn postulate. So that women will view their puny asses(Madaline’s description) as a better provider, father of intelligent children, and mate than the “brute.”

Yet when we see who the male picks as his leader, it is usually “The big strong guy that could attract women and fuck like a horse.” Men inherently believe that their leaders should have both brains, brawn, and a healthy sex appetite. They have been known to substitute ruthlessness for brawn thereby giving the small statute man(Napoleon, Hitler, etc) the statute brawn would convey.

Yes, you are right in your belief that those traits are revered by men, they just would not admit it to a woman. Notice how the populace is told that McCain has the advantage over Obama in the field of military matters.

Has anyone asked why being in the military or being a prisoner of war gives one person the advantage over another in foreign affairs or military wisdom? The underlying assumption is that a woman could never be the President because she does not have what it takes to stand up to warring men.

Logic would dictate that it is the calm civilian who selects her/his most capable military man/woman to wage war for the state. And her/his most capable diplomat to woo the peace. Yet you americans are told to give the benefit of the doubt to a man because of his military experience. That would be a man’s assessment, but why would a woman accept such an illogical premise?

When you can answer that, you will be on your way to unraveling the illogical premises that men use to govern their thought processes and their daily interactions with their fellow males.

    Adam

  4. edgy1 Says:

Hi Adam, logic somehow doesn’t always enter the equation in regrads to how men/women work and/or play together. But that being said, thanks for clearing a few things up…now for my counter q’s – and I do have Monster.com open and i am looking for that job – just thought I’d say that : )

    - anyway, here’s your words…’However, even in those countries, women can change things, if women in the countries that seek to give them equality work to free their sisters in the countries where they are oppressed’ and how can anyone ever be sure that all the donations, large or small get to the right women to do right by them, it seems a job that’s tougher than it should be, any further siggestions on how to go about that, maybe you can ask Madaline her opinion on this one for me? The mistreatment of women and oppression of them the world over just makes me livid, but feeling helpless also.

your words ‘The women must make a conscious effort to instruct their sons to respect women. And they must not allow their husbands or other males to disrespect them in the presence of those sons’ I cannot even tell you how much I see sexism by mothers I see here in the US, treating tehir sons deferentially, and in Singapore, where there were lots of variety of Asian persuasion, it is unbelieveable, boys aren’t even disciplined and run rough shod over their mothers. It’s pathetic but insisted upon by dads and more by mothers-in-law who perpetuate such nonsense.

I’ll take bragging rights with my own girl, she’s is getting instructed on all you mentioned above, cool to know I’m on in my own smart woman assumptions.

As for the supreme court, you may/may not read my blog but clearly or so it seems to me there is definitely no lack of capability when it comes to top spots but there is definitely a lack of motivation, not sure why…if you have any insights on that, please do share. It’s a bit of hold back from men but not always. the women I know who are making big money seem to be driven for a variety of reasons, one to get out of the house, another to save lives and never be blue collar again, etc…the drive was a moving-away-from as opossed to just plain old ambition, not sure if that necessarily makes a difference but that’s my take, given the exec/doc/atty women I am friends with.

I don’t think males need to admit to the ‘strong guy’ thing do they, it seems obvious to me, isn’t it to other women?

I agree with the military aspect of what you say, I visited the ‘Hanoi Hilton’ in Vietnam, there’s no glory in that, and certainly not for McCain, wonder if he knows they have his flight suit on display as part of their ‘American war’ portrayal. So, bc he was there, why does that make him a better judge of how to wrap things up in Iraq?? Has more knowledge of water boarding or something? And that would make him better why??

On another note, any idea why some humans obsess over things, people, and life so much?? Just got off the phone with a pal with some obsession or another…just curious…

Thank you for your quick and thorough responses, Zen

  5. edgy1 Says:

Madaline, I went off on a tangent about alpha males/females/gender wars and forgot to wrap up with what was supposed to be a ’4-5 year voting plan’ vis a vis your comment from a few weeks ago, I copied it to edit but i would like to use it as you stated it (without the ‘let’s eliminate the white American males’ part, I have a fair sized male audience and i feel no need to insult them, rather I’d like to inform/reform) and credit you with the writing instead of trying to take it apart, is that ok with you?? I plan to run it Weds/Th/Fri, so let me know, thanks.
Michelle, I’d put in na backtrack to the day of her posting, I think it was a few weeks back and I’ll check that when I hear from Madaline. If you recall the title of entry could you e-mail it so i don’t have to go back? Thanks : )
