Uproar In India Over 5-Year Old Victim Of Brutal Rape
Posted by Michelle Moquin on April 22nd, 2013
Good morning.
Madu: I came across this story too, a few days ago while I was researching something else for my blog. From The New York Times:
Rape of 5-Year-Old Girl Sets Off New Furor in India

By GARDINER HARRIS
Published: April 20, 2013
The injured girl was moved Friday evening to New Delhi’s finest public hospital on a gurney covered with stuffed toys, and by Saturday she was alert and in stable condition, according to doctors there. She was being given fluids and intravenous antibiotics to fight a blood infection, the doctors said, and further operations will have to wait until the infection has abated.
Meanwhile, the police arrested a 22-year-old garment worker early Saturday morning in Bihar, said Rajan Bhagat, a Delhi police spokesman. The police identified the suspect as Manoj, who, like many Indians, uses only one name. He had recently married and was tracked down with the help of cellphone records in the town where his in-laws live, according to Indian news reports.
The suspect had an apartment in New Delhi in the same building as the girl, whom he is accused of abducting, raping and torturing last Sunday night. The Times of India reported that he told the police he fled his apartment shortly thereafter because he believed that the girl had died. The girl’s parents discovered her on Wednesday in the man’s apartment.
“This is the first time I have seen such barbarism,” R. K. Bansal, medical superintendent of Swami Dayanand Hospital, said Friday in a televised interview. “There were injuries on her lips, cheeks, arms and anus area. Her neck had bruise marks suggesting that attempts were made to strangle her.”
He said a bottle almost eight inches long and pieces of candle had been inserted “into her private parts.”
In December, a woman was gang-raped and tortured and her companion beaten in a case that shocked the nation and led to weeks of spontaneous protests by Indians demanding better security for women. That case led to changes in the country’s rape laws, but horrific sexual assaults continue to be reported around India with regularity. Whether women are less safe in India than in other emerging countries is uncertain, but rape and police competence have become burning political issues.
On Saturday, demonstrators sought to reawaken the outrage that convulsed India in December, but the day’s protests were far smaller and seemed less spontaneous.
Anger at the authorities began to build after the parents of the 5-year-old said that the police had failed to take their complaint seriously, failed to carry out an adequate search and then offered them 2,000 rupees — about $37 — if they would keep quiet about the case. Then on Friday, television news channels showed a large mustachioed police officer slapping a small female protester in the face.
The government’s concerns about the case ratcheted up so quickly on Friday night that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed regrets about the episode. And on Saturday, the president of the Indian National Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi — whose house was also the site of protests on Saturday — released a statement condemning the rape and saying that “action and not words are required to ensure that such incidents never happen again.”
Two police officers, including the lead investigator on the case and the one seen slapping the protester, were suspended. The lead investigator is being investigated after being accused of trying to bribe the child’s family to remain silent, said Mr. Bhagat, the police spokesman.
The quick arrest of the suspect may do little to calm the anger surrounding the case since fairly quick police work also led to the arrests of five suspects in the December rape case. Such rapid resolutions are not the norm in India, where highly politicized police forces and a backlogged and inefficient judiciary often mean that cases remain unresolved for years.

Readers: Once again, like all of you, I am sickened by the continual horrific behavior of men.
Francis, David: I am just reading your comments from the other day. Obviously when I wrote my wrote yesterday, I was not the only one asking these kinds of questions.
Barbara: Nicely stated. And another good question worth asking.
Manasi: You are not the first girl to say this, and no doubt you will not be the last. It is a shame that so many women still support the men that hold us down. If we can’t even support our sisters here to rise to greatness, how are we going to be able to support our sisters around the world? The Dalai Lama’s quote, if true, “The world will be saved by the western woman,” has still yet to be realized by many.
I just saw the comments from yesterday’s post, and I am not able to address any this morning – need to run. Blog me.
Peace out.

Yoga for Men: The Secret to a Flat Stomach, Healthy Heart and Better Sex
About 16 million Americans regularly practice yoga for health and healing—but four out of five of them are women.
What few people realize: Despite its reputation as a “soft” exercise that’s more suited to women, yoga can provide special health benefits for men—even helping to slow the growth of prostate cancer.
What all men need to know…*
BENEFITS FOR MEN
Hundreds of scientific studies on yoga have shown that it can improve health conditions ranging from sleep problems and sinusitis to high blood pressure and schizophrenia. Many of these benefits are particularly relevant for men. For example, yoga has been shown to…
Slow prostate cancer. In a study published in The Journal of Urology, some men with prostate cancer did 60 minutes daily of gentle yoga (stretching, breathing, meditation, guided imagery and relaxation) for one year while others did not. Those who didn’t do yoga had eight times more growth of cancer cells than those who performed yoga daily.
Reduce abdominal fat. Stress is behind many “spare tires,” because it triggers high levels of the hormone cortisol, which stimulates appetite and overeating and then plays a key role in turning extra calories into extra belly fat.
For unknown reasons, visceral fat, which releases disease-causing inflammatory chemicals, is more prevalent in men than in women.
Good news:
Yoga reduces cortisol, which helps control abdominal fat.
Help prevent a heart attack. Each year more than 900,000 Americans have heart attacks, and the majority of them are men.
New research:
Yoga can reduce many of the heart attack risk factors in people who have heart disease, including high blood pressure, elevated total and LDL “bad” cholesterol and high triglycerides.
Improve sexual performance and satisfaction. In a study of 65 men reported in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, practicing yoga an hour a day for three months improved every dimension of sexual functioning—libido…erections…ejaculatory control…satisfaction with performance, intercourse and orgasm…and sexual confidence.
HOW TO START
Many middle-aged men make the mistake of thinking that because yoga looks easy, it is easy. While there are some easy versions that anyone can do, faster, more vigorous yoga styles require a fair degree of fitness and strength to even start.
Even though yoga is generally safe for most people of all ages, if you’re middle-aged or older and have never practiced yoga, it’s best to start with a slower, less vigorous style. My advice…
Start with a yoga class, not with a book or DVD. Taking a class led by a skilled yoga teacher is invaluable because the teacher can look at you, review what you’re doing and guide you to the best injury-free experience.
Expert instruction, mindfulness and not pushing too hard during practice can prevent most injuries, such as muscle spasms and ligament strains.
Helpful:
If you do use a book or DVD to learn yoga, have a skilled yoga teacher look over your routine now and then to help you correct any mistakes.
Find a good class for men. Ask a male family member, friend or colleague who practices yoga for his recommendation. If you don’t know any men who practice yoga, ask a woman, or visit the Web site of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, http://www.iayt.org.
Don’t rush results.
Men are often achievement-oriented and want fast results. That’s a mistake. Yoga is not about performance or competition—it’s about how the poses help you.
Just do it! This is the secret to success with yoga—simply doing a yoga routine, 15 to 20 minutes a day, every day.
For overall fitness, yoga is a good complement to cardio exercise and strength training. But remember, yoga also provides stress reduction, flexibility and mental focus.
WHAT YOGA ISN’T…
Misconceptions about yoga can keep some men from trying it. Yoga is not…
A religion.
It is practiced by Christians, Jews, Muslims and atheists.
Just stretching.
Yoga includes stretching poses (asanas), as well as many other techniques, such as breathing exercises and meditation.
A single style of exercise.
There are many styles of yoga, from slow and gentle (such as Ananda or Kripalu) to fast and vigorous (such as Power Yoga or Vinyasa Flow).
*Before starting yoga, check with your doctor if you have severe osteoporosis, problems with your spine or artificial joints—you may be at greater risk for injury. Also consult your doctor if you have any chronic health conditions or recent injuries. If you develop pain, dizziness or other symptoms while doing yoga, stop the pose and tell your teacher immediately.

His articles have appeared in dozens of publications, including The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of the American Medical Association.
He teaches workshops on yoga as medicine that are open to health-care professionals, yoga teachers and anyone seeking help with a specific medical condition. http://www.DrMcCall.com

Talk about greed. It is out that hundreds of law firms have offered to represent Dzhokhar.
April 22nd, 2013 at 11:26 am
Someone needs to consider that Dzhokhar made a very determined effort to be photographed. Everyone interviewed concerning Dzhorkhar was a very intelligent individual. To me this suggest he wanted to be caught.
I think some pressure was put on these individuals to do what they did.

Before we get too crazy about India, remember the Judge in Indiana who let off relative of a 6 year old girl because he claimed the child seduced him. The Judge said the 6 year old was promiscuous.

Sheila. Public defenders don’t get paid very much
April 22nd, 2013 at 5:50 pm
Misch, this is total insanity and men should start being hung by their appendages for these acts. & how the F does a 6 year old seduce?! WTF kind of nonsense is that?
Woman of MM blog, I cannot disclose the exact why’s of what I’m about to say bc I’m a clinical research program, let me just suffice it to say before you go being cool by getting tatoos, piercings or a Brazilian, please look up MRSA and either shy away or rethink (or take serious precautions), MRSA is nothing you want, and the study is actually about something else I will disclose in November, I get to write articles about it then and get paid for my time as well. I just had to share that before you just do things thinking it’s all good, they sanitize…maybe they do but just like in hospitals, infections including Staph runs rampant and can be fatal.
…and that’s my two…

Oh God, I shouldn’t report this either but I have to: (I’m only known under a different code name anyway so I guess it cannot be traced) ok, bc I want to protect you all, if a man insists or seriously/strongly suggests you get a Brazilian (oh it’ll be more stimulating for you, uh huh) look at him a little closer, won’t give more detail, just think on it and you’ll get it. – ZL

There are also many alien artifacts left on those islands between Taiwan and Okinawa. China is willing to go to war to prevent the Japanese from getting their hands on them. They believe that those artifacts represent such a great technological advance that any effort to prevent the Japanese from getting it should be taken.
China is also afraid that the Japanese is willing to allow Taiwan to have access to the technology. They are afraid that the technology will enable Taiwan to defeat the might of the chinese army and give the people of China the will and technology to overthrow the communist regime.

Despite all that happened in the aftermath of the Delhi gang rape last December rapes seem to be continuing in relentless manner. Every morning one comes across at least half a dozen reports of rapes in the newspapers.
April 22nd, 2013 at 11:39 pm
Machismo and misogyny contributes to rapes. We as women need to step up and call men out who display this attitude.

Men should have a curfew and be limited in their movement in public. Men need to have all kinds of social and geographic restrictions put on them as men are the offending class and men are making life miserable for millions of women, the victim class.
April 22nd, 2013 at 11:50 pm
The statistics are alarming. However it is not a thing to be proud off. Specifically with respect to children’s mistreatment it happens in front of the police in Bangalore. Just go fro a drive and when the car stops at any signal you see many children begging or selling toys.
It is well known that they are controlled by a group making them professional beggars. Police watch them and do nothing. I am sure this is the case in all cities. The police commissioner should answer why this is happening. About moral responsibility the Police chief seems to be ignorant.
In the 50s Lal Bahadur Shastry resigned as railway minister when a flash flood caused a train accident in Ariyallur. He did not ask ‘why should I resign as the flood was a natural calamity.’

GREAT idea. Men obviously can’t control themselves. They are a danger to civilized society.
