Good morning!

A write from Think Progress:

Student Debt Holds Women Back From Big Purchases More Than Men

BY BRYCE COVERT ON AUGUST 7, 2013 AT 3:38 PM

student debtCREDIT: Wall Street Journal

A new report has evidence that women with student debt hold back on consumption more than men: For every $200 more in monthly student loan payments a woman has to make, she is 4 percent more likely to delay buying a home, according to survey results of 2,616 people by NerdWallet and economics professor Ben Ho. A man in the same situation is only 1.4 percent more likely to put it off.

The analysis controlled for factors such as the amount of consumer debt respondents held, their levels of financial literacy and financial management, their aversion to debt, and others. In fact, men and women surveyed were equally financially literate. But while higher levels of education about finances didn’t impact men’s plans to buy houses, more literacy made women more hesitant.

Other research has found that overall student debt is holding recent graduates back from buying homes. The number of people under 40 who own homes fell by 4.6 percent at the end of last year, the largest drop since 1982. Beyond having less free income to spend on housing when graduates are paying back loans, they are also unlikely to be able to qualify for a mortgage.

But the burden may weigh even more heavily on women thanks to the gender wage gap. Even though men and women fresh out of college would appear to be incredibly similar in the eyes of an employer — they’re similarly educated, single, childless, lacking in work experience, and interested in working full-time — female graduates make $7,622 less than male ones on average. This holds true even when correcting for a number of factors, such as where they went to school, the grades they earned, and the number of hours they work.

And that gap holds true no matter how well educated women become. For every degree a woman earns, a man with the same degree will earn more. A man with a business degree will earn $1,417 than a woman with the same qualification, for example.

Women may not be able to factor in buying a house when they’re paying back student loans while making less than their male peers.

I agree with this article Michelle. As a woman with a big student debt, I feel myself holding back from any big financial risk. But my brother with almost twice my student debt and making much less than I do is out their buying all the toys he can get the credit to purchase.

Most agencies do investigate there own shootings, it is the dreaded internal affairs if there is a conflict of information it can go outside the agencies. If the conflict of information goes outside the FBI, the justice dept. will appoint a independent panel to investigate. Nobody is immune. I don’t think a conflict of information will occur in this case because there were approx. 270 law enforcement at the scene including other jurisdictions besides the FBI.

Both those statements are meant to deceive. Although most agencies do investigate their own shootings, they all, except the FBI, have an office or agency that can be appealed to take a second look, one that can act to hold legally accountable the bad actors of that agency.

The FBI DOESN’T. And for you to come here with that lie flies in the face of every independent authority that has investigated FBI killings for decades.

As for your not thinking a conflict will occur because of other law enforcement agencies being present, that is just horse manure. The FBI has a long history of it agents killing in front of other law enforcement personnel with impunity. They’re so called internal investigators have given themselves a 100% exoneration in EVERY killing.

Consider the latest killing of Ibragim Todashev. There were several other law enforcement agencies present. Yet the killing of an unarmed man by a shot in the back of the goes unanswered. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/06/why-the-fbi-shouldnt-be-trusted-to-investigate-the-death-of-ibragim-todashev/277040/

We await the internal investigation of the FBI at their convenience. It smacks of a police state, and the kind of “justice” we have been getting from that agency since their inception.

They put the fear of god in anyone that dares to raise issue with their brand of justice. Most of the MSM is just too intimidated to take them on. I’m just asking for a little accountability while I await that knock at my door.

Michelle I owe a lot on my student loan. Obama’s new loan program was such a help that I cried when I saw how much it relieve my monthly payments.

Those of you out there that have just sworn off your payments can not get back into the game. You will be dealing with the federal government. Give Obama’s program a try. It can give you piece of mind.

It shouldn’t be all about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about doing the right thing for our country and the majority of its citizens. I consider myself an independent voter, but going back to the Reagan days and with the only exception having been Perot, I’ve always voted Republican. But all this single-minded, left versus right, ideological one dimensional bull has got to go! This is the problem with our country. It shouldn’t be about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about Americans, especially our elected officials, doing the right thing for our country and its citizens.

Both parties have sold out the bulk of the American citizens, who they’re supposed to represent, by allowing the “out-sourcing” floodgates to open wider and wider without taking any sensible measures to stem the tide. (Under Clinton jobs to China, Under Bush I & II influx of illegals or cheap easily abused labor into the US and jobs to Mexico/NAFTA) Our leaders are elected by the Citizens of the United States of America to represent the interests of those citizens and the country itself. They are NOT elected by the Global Market Place or foreign citizens!

We need our elected officials to Start Protecting American Jobs and do whatever it takes to bring back the jobs they let go. We need leaders who will actually stand up for the American people.

We need common sense by the voter. All political parties are NOT equally responsibility for our present woes. If you can not arrive at that then your vote is meaningless because you will continue to vote a party line.

Our leaders may be elected by the American voters, but those voters are influenced by foreign money courtesy of STARK of SCOTUS who voted in favor of Citizens United. Unlimited money has made our candidates whores for those with unlimited money to contribute to a campaign. That is a fact. If it is ignored it will eventually destroy the principle of one person one vote.

If a party is dedicated to obstructing the other party without regard to the harm it can cause the Nation and its people, the voter has to be willing to make a choice at the polls.

Kevin, thanks for asking after me, just returning from being semi-disconnected for a few weeks. Luv’d it, it retrained everyone not to expect immediate communication or anything else from me, may need to do that every 6 months…

Mischa, I wonder if women sometimes (not always, before anyone runs amok with what I’m saying) don’t leave money on the table when they are negotiating their income? I researched this for a blog post about 4 years ago and found that women were more ‘hesitant’ to negotiate hard for income, I think that hesitancy will start to rectify itself as women become more comfortable with running their personal financial show. I could be wrong. Though the article did say women were more ‘hesitant’ than males to move ahead with home buying (it is a big endeavor, I can understand that, and likely wouldn’t recommend the hassle unless you need the tax breaks) and I don’t know the stats on men/women qualifying for loans either but I’d love to know…is it possible that extra $1400 a yr makes them a better bet, it would seem an insignificant amount…feels like I need a few more details on this one….

I saw that 7 minute exercise routine and wanted to chunk that down for MM BABES that are following the ‘reset your number’ (clothing size or that scale # though muscle weighs more, keep that in mind…) my one caveat with jumping jacks is that few people do them in perfect form so I’m going to say – pass – unless you can do it in perfect form (as described) though walking in place seems like a better way to escalate your heart rate.

Add the ‘wall sits’ – stand with your back against the wall, bend your knees and slide down till you thighs are parellel to the floor, hold the position for 30 seconds. (I’ll add, hold in your tummy and squeeze in your tush while doing this, and after 30 seconds, slide slowly up the wall and do it 4x’s more, then work up to 10x’s…

Add the side plank – lie on your side and one forearm is under your shoulder, your upper leg directly over the lower leg, knees staright. Raise your hips up till your body forms a straight line from ankles to shoulder, hold for 30 seconds and repeat on other side. (add 4x’s more to both sides and work your way up to 10x’s on either side)

that’s all I’d add in for now…both are great for your core area so be sure to breath and bring your awareness to the areas you are breathing and squeezing.

Pic a picture of yourself or someone with a similar body style and put it on your fridge, too. It’s helpful just befiore you go foraging around in there to look at your vision for yourself. It can be very motivating for some, if that isn’t a tactic that would motivate please do not employ it that’s counter productive to your progress. & do that ‘I love you, (name)’ exercise at least 2x’s a week IF you’ve finally had a loving breakthrough, if you haven’t yet do it daily.

Hope you’re all caught up on the other exercises that came prior to these two and let me know if you need a review and/or need a question answered &/or anyone lose some weight/gain some tone they want to talk about yet? Caroline+4, et al…anything else you’d like? I’ll be back this later this/early next week with some words on ‘looks/body image’ and recipes…

    Luv, Zen Lill

PS Mischa, may need to supply you with some new pics, went shopping in NYC ; )

  9. Demi Says:

Prism Princess, one would think that someone in the proper place would sound a public alarm. We need to find out what is causing this.
