Good morning!

Carlos: I read about it too. Here’s what I found:

Antoinette Tuff: Meet The Bookkeeper Who Stopped Ga. School Shooter

Antoinette Tuff

DECATUR, Ga. — Rufus Morrow was at work when he got a phone call with the worst news he could imagine: Shots fired at his daughter’s elementary school.

He drove “about 90 mph” to Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy where 800 or so students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade had been evacuated Tuesday in an Atlanta suburb. The police chief says a 20-year-old man with an assault rifle and other weapons was able to slip into the school where visitors must be buzzed in by staff.

The suspect, identified as Michael Brandon Hill, held one or two staff members in the front office captive for a time, the police chief said, making one of them call a local TV station. As officers swarmed the campus outside, he shot at them at least a half a dozen times with an assault rifle from inside the school and they returned fire, said DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric L. Alexander. Hill then surrendered. No one was injured.

Morrow said he almost cried as he told his supervisor why he needed to leave.

“Just the mere thought of what happened at that other elementary school happening here, it was just devastating to my soul,” he said, referring to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut in December that left 26 people dead, 20 of them children.

Watch Antoinette Tuff  discuss school shooting:

He wasn’t the only one whose thoughts went to that shooting that has dominated arguments over gun control in the U.S.

“I thought it wasn’t going to be all right,” said his 10-year-old daughter, Dyamond, a fifth-grader. “I thought he was going to come into the building and hurt everybody like what happened at the other school.”

Hill is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, terroristic threats and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police questioned him for hours at headquarters. There was no information on a possible court date. Alexander said police were unsure of Hill’s motive and that Hill, who had an address listed in court records about three miles from the school in Decatur, had no clear ties to the school.

A woman answering the phone at a number listed for Hill said she was his mother but that it wasn’t a good time and rushed off the phone.

Other parents also feared the worst for their children.

“I was terrified,” said Romaine Hudson as she clung to the hands of her 6-year-old and 8-year-old daughters, both of whom are students at the school. “The only thing I could think of when I first heard of this situation was Sandy Hook.”

Authorities believe Hill must have walked in behind someone authorized to be there, Alexander said. He never got past the front office, where he held one or two employees captive for a time. School bookkeeper Antoinette Tuff says she was one of the hostages.

In an interview on ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer,” Tuff said she worked to convince the gunman to put down his weapons and ammunition.

“He told me he was sorry for what he was doing. He was willing to die,” Tuff told ABC.

Speaking Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Tuff said the suspect told her he hadn’t taken his medication.

She told him her life story, about how her marriage fell apart after 33 years and the “roller coaster” of opening her own business.

“I told him, `OK, we all have situations in our lives,” she said. “It was going to be OK. If I could recover, he could, too.”

Then Tuff said she asked the suspect to put his weapons down, empty his pockets and backpack on the floor.

“I told the police he was giving himself up. I just talked him through it,” she said.

She told WSB-TV in Atlanta that she tried to keep Hill talking to prevent him from walking into the hallway or through the school building.

“He had a look on him that he was willing to kill – matter of fact he said it. He said that he didn’t have any reason to live and that he knew he was going to die today,” Tuff said, adding that Hill told her he was sure he’d be killed because he’d shot at police officers. “I knew that if he got out that door he was gonna kill everybody,” she said.

Dramatic television footage showed lines of young students racing out of the building with police and teachers escorting them to safety. They sat outside in a field for a time until school buses came to take them to their waiting parents and other relatives at a nearby Wal-Mart. As each bus arrived a couple hours later, cheers erupted in the store parking lot.

Morrow was one of those parents and held his 10-year-old daughter close to him during an interview after the two were reunited.

“My stomach was in my throat for the whole time until I saw her face on the bus,” he said.

His daughter, a fifth-grader, told The Associated Press that a voice came over the intercom saying school was under lockdown and instructed students to get under tables. She said her teacher told the class to sing and pray.

“There were a lot of girls crying, I was feeling scared but I didn’t cry. I was just nervous,” she said.

Tuff called WSB-TV as it was happening to say the gunman asked her to contact the Atlanta station and police. WSB said during the call, shots were heard in the background. Assignment editor Lacey Lecroy said she spoke with Tuff, who said she was alone with the man and his gun was visible.

“It didn’t take long to know that this woman was serious,” Lecroy said. “Shots were one of the last things I heard. I was so worried for her.”

Complicating the rescue, bomb-sniffing dogs alerted officers to something in the suspect’s trunk and investigators believe the man may have been carrying explosives, Alexander said. Officials cut a hole in a fence to make sure students running from the building could get even farther away to a nearby street, he said.

The school has about 870 children enrolled. The academy is named after McNair, an astronaut who died when the space shuttle Challenger exploded on Jan. 28, 1986, according to the school’s website.

As they waited for their children, many of the parents said they were surprised that anyone could get into the school. Many of them recounted having to ring a buzzer at a door with a camera to get in to drop off or pick up their children.

Students at the school arrived Wednesday morning at nearby McNair High School, where they would attend classes for the time being. The high school’s marquee said “Welcome McNair Elementary School Our Prayers Are With You.”

*******

Readers: That is one brave woman.  This isn’t the first time that I have heard of a woman talking a man out of being violent. Just recently I heard a similar story, (children and a school were not involved) where a woman was held by gunpoint outside of a grocery store and talked to the gunman about her children, family and her difficult times. He too was talked out of it. Kudos to women for our soft approach that is obviously so helpful in these kind of situations too. Yes we can stop violence with compassion and kindness.

  1. Health Info Says:

Proper pH Balance Is Critical for Good Health
    by Dr. David Williams

Maintaining a slightly alkaline pH is key to preventing disease
The human body is an indivisible, integrated organism, not a collection of various unrelated parts. In this vein, there are various mechanisms in your body that work together to maintain a proper pH balance throughout your body.

The acidity or alkalinity of a substance is measured using pH. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14, with 0 being the most acidic, 14 being the most alkaline, and 7 being neutral. To survive, our bodies must maintain the pH very close to 7.4, which is just on the alkaline side of neutral. If your body’s pH varies too much from this ideal, it becomes difficult for various enzymes to function properly.

Maintaining this slightly alkaline state is a constant challenge, primarily because of the acid-forming functions that take place within the body, and the over-abundance of acid-producing foods we consume.

The idea that various foods influence the pH of the body isn’t new. In fact, as far back as the early 1900s, numerous doctors began studying the pH-altering effects of different foods.

They found that while a few foods were “neutral” in their effects, most foods were either “alkaline-producing” or “acid-producing.” They also found that simply changing the diet could change the pH of the body.

Not surprisingly, bringing the body’s pH closer to the normal range helped patients get rid of many of their health complaints.

Overacidity has even been linked to the formation of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis.

    Is Your Body Too Acidic?
There are two ways to determine whether your body is too acidic. You can go by co-occurring symptoms, or you can do a simple at-home test.

    Symptoms of Over-Acidity

    Constant fatigue
    Easily running out of breath
    Frequent sighing
Muscle pain or cramping after walking short distances
Often feeling like you can’t get enough air

I’ve also found that when people are very acidic, their tissue levels of oxygen are so low that they have difficulty holding their breath for more than 20 seconds.

The length of time you can hold your breath is one technique you can use to document the difference that occurs after adapting a more alkaline-producing diet.

    At-Home Test for Over-Acidity
If you can’t tell if you’re too acidic using these criteria, there’s a simple and fairly accurate way to test yourself. Just check the pH of your saliva using pH Hydrion test strips or paper. Saliva closely parallels the blood when it comes to pH. Compare your results to these benchmarks:

    Normal blood pH = 7.4
    Normal saliva pH = 6.5 to 7.0
If your saliva pH consistently falls below 6.5, you are acidic. If it consistently reads above 7.0, you could be too alkaline.

How to Correct Your Body’s pH Balance
Eating a diet of 75–80 percent alkaline-forming foods—and minimal in acid-forming foods—is the best way to maintain a slightly alkaline pH in your body. (See a list of alkaline- and acid-forming foods.)

Making these changes can quickly improve your health. For even faster results, however, try juicing. Making and consuming fresh vegetable juices on a daily basis will jumpstart the process of alkalizing your body.

This is why many people feel so good after they begin a juicing program. (Note: Due to the problems associated with blood sugar, I would recommend using vegetable juices and not fruit juices.

Eating whole fruit affects blood sugar less because the fiber in fruit slows the body’s processing of fructose.)

Although switching to a more alkaline diet will benefit most everyone, there is a small percentage of the population whose bodies are actually too alkaline. The few individuals who have this condition usually suffer from calcium deposits.

Calcium forms when the surrounding environment is alkaline. This results in symptoms of migrating nerve and joint pain. Insomnia can also be a problem, and it is often associated with early morning stiffness.

These individuals wake up stiff, but the stiffness quickly improves as muscle activity produces lactic acid. Lactic acid helps neutralize the buildup of alkaline compounds and bring the body’s pH back into balance.

  2. Tamara Says:

What an amazing act of heroism! God bless her…she no doubt saved many lives and that was truly very brave!

  3. Janet Says:

She no doubt saved many lives.” Including the life of the shooter, because thepolice were probably itching to light him up. I’m glad to see no one was killed.

  4. Tom Says:

She’s a hero. If she hadn’t been where she was, when she was and kept her wits about her, this could have had a very tragic ending,

  5. Martha Says:

I know who won’t have anything to say on this story about this beautiful and intelligent sistah…Any guesses?

  6. Donald Says:

    WOW!!….Look at the difference!!….She sees a troubled
youth about to make a huge mistake and she tries to comfort and counsel him.

Zimmerman on the other hand sees a youth walking in
    the rain and kills him!.

  7. Scott Says:

You know I am just going to say this. Sometimes you can’t let fear drive you. Maybe if someone at the Sandy Hook school had talked to that kid and tried to relate to him, he may have not done what he did either.

Too much of our lives in this country is driven by fear. We even sell things using scare and fear tactics. If you can’t talk to and relate to people, you will fear so many thing in this life, because you can’t relate to how someone else feels.

This is why I have a problem with the stand your ground law, because the fear that most white people feel is not reasonable, it is just perceived fear, not real.

  8. Irene Says:

Another white boy with the same assault rifle that was used to murder children at Sandy Hook wants to be a copy cat killer. So he drives 90 miles to do it.

It’s time we get the cops to “stop and frisk” 18 to 30 year old white males and search them for guns.

  9. CB Says:

Donald, the difference being, Zim set out to take a Black life, not save one.

  10. Michael Says:

Right after he got his nose broken.

  11. Dylan Says:

I wanna have mixed babies with her.

  12. Lois Says:

One can hardly see this on the major news channels. Most are too busy running the one about the three black kids shooting a white male.

  13. Tom Says:

Martha#5, FOX News has her identified as the shooter.

  14. TS Says:

    LOL. I know.

  15. Scott Says:

Not to change the topic but I have to ask. Howie what’s up with the aliens?

  16. Di Says:

Yeah, but that would give them free publicity. Let’s be thankful one of our own is a true hero, unlike those the media like to claim are hero’s.

  17. TS Says:

She is truly a hero. She helped to prevent a deranged sick individual from potentially taking innocent human life. She is a role model for our people and she should be greatly respected in our community.

Bravery and courage are great characteristics found in our people. We had courage from our ancestors back then. We still have courage including bravery among the many dedicated Brothers and Sisters, who are making real changes in the lives of our communities presently near the 22nd century indeed.

  18. Robin Says:

Tuff – what a perfect name for one tough cookie. This woman is a hero, the calm & intelligence she showed in this situation was truly a courageous act of humanity.

  19. Derek Says:

The hero is black and the villain is white. No wonder I haven’t heard to much about this story.

  20. Black Says:

Ms Tuff is a true heroine, her quick thinking saved many lives including the angry attacker. She is one brave woman and I hope she’s treated as one by “mainstream” America. Thank you Ms Tuff for saving lives and preventing life long grief for families and America.

  21. Tasha Says:

Michael#10, yes he took a life after he got his nose broken but he got his nose broken in the process of taking a life. If a man breaks in my home and rapes me and I fight him as hard as i can and actually do some damage before he kills me.

Will you also act like my rapist and murderer was the victim? Gimme a break!

  22. Gwen Says:

Scott#7, I agree with most of what you said. Im very much against the stand your ground law… I personally would’ve had the right to kill many men if we had that law here with no “real” reason because although they each had me fearful of my life not one of them actually harmed me.

I also agree that some white people will be more apt to feel that fear if it is a black person. But as a white woman I must say, not a single one of those men I spoke of earlier were black. Not one.

I have never had a reason to fear a black person. And if I ever did, it would be because they as a person was scarey not their color. So please, do not group all of us white people as racist and assuming the worse of black people because some of us actually just look at people as PEOPLE not races just as I should be looked at.

I personally didn’t look at this woman’s picture and story and think “what a strong black woman.” No, I thought “what a strong woman.” I didn’t take a mental note of her race I took mental note of the good in her heart. I don’t even pay attention to race in my every day life or in news articles unless it is of importance to the matter at hand, like the Treyvon Martin case.

His race wasn’t important the important part is he is a child and a victim. BUT many people do not look at him as a victim because of his race which made race more of an issue in the case.

  23. Tasha Says:

Martin was shot once in the chest, in the heart. He would have unconscious in about 30 seconds and dead in about 7 minutes.

QED Zimmerman’s nose was broken before Martin was shot.

  24. Tei Says:

    Dylan#11, OMG!

  25. Jackie Says:

God is good even in the worst times. This is one of those times he showed up to show out. He will always defeat the devil. God bless her for standing in between good & evil. She had an angle standing on her shoulders.

  26. Matthew Says:

Checking in from Ireland. A. Tuff is an example to everyone. What an all round beautiful human being. Parents of the kids she saved – take up a collection, send her and her kid on the best holiday possible for at least a month.

Then insist the school board double her salary when she gets back. NRA and gun-nuts take note: This is how it’s done properly, this is how violence is decreased.

  27. Irene Says:

And we love YOU, Ms. Tuff!!!

  28. Marie Says:

We salute you and you are a heroine. Her story has been getting media attention everywhere but Fox news.

  29. Bee Says:

    Dear NRA,

Take THAT!!! It doesn’t take a good guy with a gun to prevent these things from happening…..looks like it takes a good woman using the power of prayer as her weapon of choice.

    Sincerely,
Someone who sees through your bullsh!t

  30. Michael#23 Says:

Tasha#21, sorry I used your name by mistake. I was addressing my remarks to you.

  31. Pam Says:

Michael, You and GZ can cry me a river, because he deserved far worse than a broken nose. He should have gotten the living snot beaten out of him, and if TM had been bigger and stronger than him, he would have.

It is only a matter of time before he oversteps his authority again, and next time it won’t matter what kind of demonic law is in place to protect him.

  32. David Says:

While we are talking about white media coverage which is biased, here’s a new one. Sgt Robert Bales who murdered 16 Afghans on a shooting spree gets life without parole while the man known as the “Fort Hood shooter” who shot 13 is up for the death penalty.

Of course that is because he is an OTW. Oh and his name is Nidal Malik Hasan. Every statement is about the graphic testimony. I guess there is no graphic testimony concerning a white boy killing 16 Afghans.

  33. Crystal Says:

Antoinette, I hope you read all this support from your fellow citizens. You did an amazing job. Countless lives were saved because of you. The bravery and sacrifice you made are truly exemplary and inspirational…words could never be enough. Thank You…

  34. Syder Says:

Well, let’s give credit where credit is due if this is true. I’ll break from posting hateful sh** about black women to express props for her fearless act of sacrifice and bravery.

While many people would wussy out, she stepped up and talked this crazed coward out of killing innocent people. What she did is timeless and should be praised without hesitation.

For her to take a gamble to save the lives of those children in that school would be nothing short of remarkable. These are the stories that are wonderful to read about, and to comment on as well.

  35. Dylan Says:

    Tei#24;

What! What’s wrong with a little swirl? Mwahaha.

  36. Hewitt Says:

Jackie#25, I go with Howie’s version of God. He doesn’t give two shits what happens to humans or any other being He created.

  37. Irene Says:

Good, thank you. I hope you’ll come to realize that as wonderful a thing that Ms. Tuff did, there are countless other warm and wonderful black women (and people in general) out here as well… you just don’t really see clearly until you stop lumping people into categories.

  38. kJ Says:

    Snyder#34:

Don’t take a break, just stop posting the the hateful crap.

  39. Syder Says:

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeet, that ain’t happening until black bitches stop their crap. When it happens, then I’ll stop posting hateful crap.

  40. KJ Says:

Syder#39, Sheets??? Is that what you wear?

  41. Syder Says:

KJ, We’re getting a bit detailed aren’t we? That’s disgusting. What I do with sheets are my business you sick person you!

  42. Pam Says:

This lady has superior ‘people’ skills, that’s for sure, not to mention a ton of courage. She literally faced death and kept her cool, thereby saving lives. Thank God for her!

  43. Wilbur Says:

so glad it wasn’t worse . Now find out how he got into the school .only breifly was it touched on that he had to be buzzed in somebody messed up

  44. LeTa0 Says:

This is a notice to Veterans.

WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs (recently) announced that veterans filing an original Fully Developed Claim, or FDC, for service-connected disability compensation may be entitled to up to one year of retroactive disability benefits.

The retroactive benefits, which are effective Aug. 6, 2013, through Aug. 5, 2015, are the result of a comprehensive legislative package passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama last year.

“The VA strongly encourages veterans to work with veterans service organizations to file Fully Developed Claims and participate in this initiative, since it means more money in eligible veterans’ pockets simply by providing VA the information it needs up front,” said Allison A. Hickey, undersecretary for benefits. “At the same time, it helps reduce the inventory of pending claims by speeding the process.”

Filing an FDC is typically the fastest way for veterans to receive a decision on their claims because Fully Developed Claims require veterans to provide all supporting evidence in their possession when they submit their claims. Often, this is evidence that VA legally must attempt to collect on the veteran’s behalf, which is already in the veteran’s possession, or is evidence the veteran could easily obtain, such as private treatment records.

When veterans submit such evidence with their claims, it significantly reduces the amount of time VA spends gathering evidence from them or other sources — often the longest part of the claims process.

While VA will still make efforts to obtain federal records on the veteran’s behalf, the submittal of non-federal records (and any federal records the veteran may have) with the claim allows VA to issue a decision to the veteran more quickly.

Typically, VA processes FDCs in half the time it takes for a traditionally filed claim.

FDCs can be filed digitally through the joint DoD-VA online portal eBenefits (www.ebenefits.va.gov). VA encourages veterans who cannot file online to work with an accredited veterans service organization, which can file claims digitally on veterans’ behalf.

While submitting an FDC provides a faster decision for any compensation or pension claim, only veterans who are submitting their very first compensation claim as an FDC are potentially eligible for up to one year of retroactive disability benefits under the newly implemented law.

FDCs help eliminate VA’s claims backlog because they increase production of claims decisions and decrease waiting times. Also, VA assigns FDCs a higher priority than other claims which means veterans receive decisions to their claim faster than traditional claims.

VA continues to prioritize other specific categories of claims, including those of seriously wounded, terminally ill, Medal of Honor recipients, former prisoners of war, the homeless and those experiencing extreme financial hardship. As part of its drive to eliminate the claims backlog in 2015, VA also gives a priority to claims more than a year old.

In May, VA announced a new partnership with veterans service organizations and others known as the “Community of Practice,” an effort that seeks to reduce the compensation claims backlog for veterans by increasing the number of FDCs filed by veterans and their advocates.

VA is continuing to implement several initiatives to meet the department’s goal to eliminate the claims backlog in 2015. In May, VA announced that it was mandating overtime for claims processors in its 56 regional benefits offices to increase production of compensation claims decisions through the end of fiscal 2013. In April, VA launched an initiative to expedite disability compensation claims decisions for veterans who have a waited a year or longer

As a result of these initiatives, VA’s total claims inventory remains at lower levels not seen since August 2011. The number of claims in the VA backlog — claims pending over 125 days — has been reduced by 17 percent compared to the highest point in March 2013.

  45. Anna of Guam Says:

    This is interesting.

Guam’s divorce laws challenged by Michigan woman
    by Mindy Aguon

Guam – A Michigan woman is calling into question the constitutionality of Guam’s divorce laws. Cheryl Gray has been in and out of court since 1998 when her husband, Edward Joseph Gray, filed for divorce in the Superior Court of Guam. The divorce was granted and Gray was given $1,500 in spousal support, custody of their daughter, child support and community property.

Gray has been seeking the dismissal of the divorce action has now filed a complaint in the Eastern District of Michigan, challenging the validity of Guam’s divorce laws and claiming it is a violation of procedural due process.

In her complaint, she alleges that Guam has worldwide recognition as “The Divorce Capital of the World”, being a divorce mill for military personnel looking for a quick divorce. Gray has asked the court find that Guam law violates the Constitution and that the Guam Legislature exceeded its authority by enacting the law pertaining to divorces locally.

She’s also asked that any orders and judgments issued in her 1998 divorce case be declared null and void.

    =============================
Okay people what do you think? Are we a divorce mill for military personnel?

I think I saw two UFO’s flying over Dededo, then the lights went out. What’s up Howie?

  47. North Says:

Where’s Zen Lill, you do know that a lot of us men check in to get her daily dose of sweetness.

  48. Kea Says:

    Hafa adai

Anna, the man was a naval officer and resident of Utah. he wasn’t local and the wife wasn’t local. and he left the island the day after getting the divorce.

  49. Don Says:

Anna who cares what happens on Guam, the land of fat chamorritas. There are alot more fat women on that island than anywhere I’ve been. I have been stationed on a lot of fucked up places but this land of fat chamorritas is the worse.

  50. Byron Says:

Anna, Sounds like her ex came into some big money recently…….

  51. Jorge Says:

15 years and she still has his last name. Someone needs to move on…..

  52. Lei Says:

Cheryl, Quit judging girl…btw stay back there!

  53. Cruz Says:

    Hafa Adai

Cheryl, wake up and smell the coffee! Just because Guam court granted your husband the divorce quick that does not mean Guam is the highest capita in Divorce!

  54. Tumon Says:

    Hafa Adai Anna:

Seems like a good question and challenge. Did Guam exceeded it’s authority (Organic Act ) by the enactment of divorces? And did it violate the Constitutional due process ?.

  55. Taotao Says:

Anna, Scorned! This lady is mad as heck that her hubby beat her to the puch. He was smart enough to realize he had to bail before she could rake him over the coals.

She’s upset that she isn’t entitled to 50% of his pay, his retirement or any of his hard earned benefits. She’s also angry because although their child has access to BX/PX and the hospital she doesn’t. Tough life lady.

Maintain your dignity; pick yourself up, shake it off and move on to the next military man. Oh, and stop blaming everyone else for your misfortunes.

    Hafa adai

  56. Kei Says:

Anna, I’m glad her husband divorced her. He probably hooked up with a beautiful island woman. It’s the red rice, bbq ribs, and chicken kelaguin that got this guy hooked.

  57. Rhea Says:

    Hafa Adai, Anna;

Two interesting sites: http://marriage-statistics.findthedata.org/d/d/Guam http://www.divorcemag.com/statistics/statsWorld.shtml The second list Guam as #48 in divorce rates in the world.

  58. Justin Says:

Anna, Which gray won the child custody, spousal/child support and community property? it seem’s like he won and it is more of her either not liking she has to pay for spousal/child support and/or losing custody of the kids.

    Hafa adai

  59. Lea Says:

Easy Divorces, Child Abuse Linked, Tim Rohr; Pacific Daily News, April 21, 2013 “In 2010, Guam topped the world with 4.7 divorces per 1,000 people. Our only close competition was Russia at 4.5. (United Nations 2011 Demographic Yearbook Table 25).

And this was an improvement. In 2005, we led the world several times over with a stratospheric divorce rate of 14.1 divorces per thousand, burdening our courts with a staggering 9.25 divorces per working day.”

    Hafa Adai

  60. Lea Says:

Committee Report, Committee on Judiciary and Transportation, November 18,2004. FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATION The Committee on Judiciary and Transportation finds that the filing of nonresident divorces on Guam is not complimentary to the overall image of Guam as a family tourist destination.

In addition, the filing of non-resident divorces on Guam by non-residents causes a legal loophole for parties to avoid proper judicial action on areas relative to child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution of assets and other areas of domestic law.

Committee Report, Committee on Judiciary, Governmental Operations & Reorganization, November 8, 2005 FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATION Local law has allowed “Guam divorce” to become an enticing catch phrase not for Guam residents, but for individuals without any claim to local residence or domicile.

The current divorce statute, unlike the law of any other state in the United States, clearly avoids the question of jurisdiction of Guam courts. Thus, Guam courts have been used by numerous off-island parties for filing of divorces. This fact has enabled the dissolution of thousands of marriages and has caused Guam to bear such unfortunate labels as a “divorce mill” or “divorce capital.”

  61. Teef Says:

Frankly, I think the divorce laws need to be re-examined as a whole, especially the dividing of assets and property. If you look at the original intent of the division of assets following a divorce, this was done so that a woman will not become despondent after such judgment and not so she can “cash in”.

The way judgments are made now, women are allowed to clean out men of all their assets – even if she was the one cheating, she gets the car(s), the house(s), the credit cards, monthly spousal support, monthly child support, and so forth, while the man gets the short end of the stick and is treated like a criminal.

No wonder why some men fall off the deep end and go on shooting sprees or other crimes of violence. The divorce laws nowadays allow women to be gold-diggers and this has to stop.

  62. Kei Says:

    Hafa adai, Anna;

The only way to eliminate divorce on Guam completely is to allow multiple spouses. Both men and women should have multiple partners/spouses. But until then, keep the divorce law the way it is.

This drama lady from michigan is upset cause her husband left her for a local woman. It’s her fault she doesn’t like finadeni, kelaguin, and red rice.

  63. Teef Says:

Yeah, this man from Michigan may have left his wife for a nice local woman, but just wait until she gains about 300 pounds after giving birth to her first child, like all local women do, and another 300 pounds as they grow older.

Alot of these local women make Ricky Naputi, the “world’s fattest man” featured on the TLC channel look anorexic by comparison! This local woman will then be the next one challenging Guam’s divorce laws! LOL!

  64. Taotao Says:

    Don & Teef,

Don’t generalize Chamorritas like that, it gives the impression you are small minded. I surmise you either have a fat local wife, who may or may not be Chamorrita, and she cannot control what she eats or you are jealous of all the beautiful Chamorritas.

Tell me one place where there are no fat women because as far as I know, there are fat women in every corner of this earth. The difference is Chamorittas are beautiful whether they are plump or petite.

It seems to me that you can’t handle beautiful Chamorritas or you’ve had some bad experiences. I don’t know, could it be perhaps that Chamorritas took you for everything and you are bitter?

Oh, BTW, there is no such word as Alot, they are two words; “A + LOT= a lot. Got it Don & Teef?

  65. Zen Lill Says:

A very brave and courageous act, and in the face of death she chose love rather than fear, a lesson for anyone with a heart and a longing to evolve…see Below as it relates…(love vs fear)

All the talk here today about divorce, well I can only say that it seems like both of them handled their affairs coming from a fear based place, you can easily say that it might be about money…though I can tell you that wanting the money could be standard gold digging or it could be an irrational and fear based way of putting the ex in the same ‘pain’ that ‘she’ went through. Unfortunately, you cannot transfer pain that way and the energy involved in doing/handling that, from both parties not to mention the kiddies, is negative and with no positive light at the end if the tunnel.

If he did take up with a local island woman, regardless of her weight (perhaps he likes his women well rounded and why not?), there does come a day when (man or woman) you must get on with the business of living and loving, and it’s most helpful to everyone if emotions don’t run the show constantly.

Allow yourself and your ex to move on, financially a man should want his ex to be able to give the kids a stable life regardless of her actions, and a woman should want her ex to have some life that resembles the life they shared regardless of his actions. The whole idea of leaving a woman destitute bc she’s no longer with you seems harmful to both and the idea of wanting to take a man to the cleaners seems harmful to both, so unless you don’t care about your psyche and anyone else’s (unloving in general) then best action might be no action or how about just forgiveness (after an appropriate time, this you do for yourself, believe me).

And that’s my rant in divorce and weight gain by island women ; )

    Luv, Zen Lill

  66. Zen Lill Says:

Oh forgot to ask, was that sweet enough for you, North ; )?

I was busy for a few days buying myself a car, time consuming and fun at the same time! It’s nice to know that you’re popping in to catch some sweetness. My car dealer and I were chatting about divorce and all of the above, he said ‘you think like a man’ I said, ‘hmmm, that would infer that most women are not logical and only run on negative emotion’ and he said ‘when it comes to love, marriage and money many become illogical and go into fuck over mode’ – I had to respond, ‘ I hope not all men feel this way but most people, man or woman, are not in the positive state of mind they could be if they let a little time pass’ bc I can only speak fr myself but I said and did nothing for awhile bc I wanted to be very sure and loving in my demeanor, that I did for me but it also quickly showed me that it was a positive thing fr all of us, still is…

If you can take the higher (loving) road do it, if you cannot then do what you must and forgive as quickly as possible (for you and the ecology of the surrounding lives).

    Off the soapbox now, -ZL
