I’m all in. I can’t wait until October so I can start showing my mother that my dad is full of shit when he knocks Obamacare. He is just jealous that a black man did what those white men like him couldn’t.

  3. Nora Says:

We have to stay focused and get out and vote come 2014. If we don’t the republicans will steal both Houses of Congress and the day.

They will deliver what’s left of the country to the 1%.

  4. Chloe Says:

The discussion you guys and gals are having on Obamacare vs Full time employment is so on par with this article. For those of you who don’t get it. It has NOTHING to do with negative effects of Obamacare. All the negatives are from a party that refuses to allow the damn health program to take effect.

They know that once that happens their bullshit will be exposed.

  5. Blake Says:

There is a limit to how long employers can expect workers to perform at elevated production levels. I would not be surprised if productivity and retention started to slump in companies that push their employees too hard for too long…

  6. Fuck O care Says:

Here is something you can do: don’t sign up for ObamaCare if you don’t already have coverage. Wait until you have a serious health problem, then sign up. As long as your benefits exceed the premiums, keep paying them. When that reverses, drop ObamaCare like a rotten tomato.

Let liberals who worship Obama sign up early and subsidize others, although I strongly suspect that many liberals will urge everyone to sign up while they do not. They are not used to paying for anything and buying ObamaCare would be a lot to even ask of them.

Pay the nigger his fine, but note that his recent decree included a provision that, for 2014, insurance companies do have to report their customer base to the IRS. So you can put on your tax return that you have an ObamaCare policy and they have no way of knowing whether you do or not. So no fine for 2014!

  7. Reed Says:

Health insurance should work like Auto insurance. You don’t use auto-insurance to fill your gas tank or change your oil. You only use it when you have an accident. Most people should have castrophic coverage only. Checkups, physicals, and routine stuff should not be covered by insurance unless you want an expensive policy.

Deregulation is the real answer, not the other way around. That’s why routine checkups cost so much. Too much paperwork. As for single payer, the single payer countries are already rationing a little, and already have issues with wait times. It may not be real bad now, but what will they look like in a decade or two.

We need to look at the long term projections for these countries before falling in love with the single payer concept. Longterm thinking is not a real strong suit for Democrat and Republican party sheep.

  8. Martin Says:

FOC#6, when you pull your racist head out of your ass, the shit you smell is the crap your party spreads every time they open their mouths. You people will do anything to destroy an opportunity to make this country benefit all its citizens.

    Fuck off and die.

  9. Carlos Says:

Reed, I wouldn’t expect nothing else from your like. Deregulate is your mantra. You are an idiot because you can’t see that deregulation is the cause of the shit we are in today.

You just continue to parrot the party line, “deregulate.” No wonder you think that inane Reagan was a good president.

  10. Sofia Says:

Oscar, You do realize one positive benefit of Unions is they help raise wages and benefits so we really did have a working middle class. You only have to look back during the days prior to the formation Unions to see how bad the life of the average workers was.

Why don’t our teacher UNIONS make our schools “successful” and “valuable”? How well a school performs and is successful is a function of management via the school board and school administration. Yes, teacher are the key to classroom education, but how education is delivered is a function of management.

Good management is Wal-Mart’s not-so “secret” weapon. Well Wal-Mart is a classic example of predator capitalism fueled by exploiting their workforce with sub-standard pay and few benefits.

There has to be a balance between management and workers. Good management understands that their workers are their most valuable resource.

If you look at your examples of JC Penny’s, Dell and Barnes and Nobles, their performance has nothing to do with their workers, but management. JCP brought is the retail VP from Apple who was clueless about retail sales related to JCP. Dell and Barnes & Nobles got caught by changes in technology, the internet, e-books and portable computing devices such as the IPAD or lack of vision by management.

  11. Jlen Says:

All you guys on yesterday’s blog sparing about whether ObamaCare is responsible for job loss should take this history lessen into account. Hiring part-time workers and full/part-time workers at 30 hours is something businesses have been doing. This isn’t a result of ObamaCare(ACA), but they sure want everyone to think that.

Companies love to scream “The sky is falling, so we have to stick it to the workers!” I wonder if the companies who hire part-timers, paying many of those workers below the poverty level, realize that those employees are going to end up on Obamacare anyway – just on the taxpayers’ dime, not theirs…of course they do.

  12. Uther Says:

Reed, If single payer is such a bad ting then please explain how countires with single-payer systems have much better metrics in life span, infant mortality and the such? While at the same time spending WAY less per capita on healthcare.

Did you know of all the ‘industrialized’ countries the USA ranks near the bottom or the bottom in health metrics, while at the same time we spend the MOST per capita on healthcare?

Many of these countries have had single-payer for DECADES. So it not like it a new thing or anything.

  13. Tim Says:

To all those teapary assholes trying to convince us of their proven to be unsound fiscal policies I say. If we weren’t as taxpayers subsidizing “well run business like Walmart” low wages and poor benefits with foodstamps, healthcare and the like out of my middleclass taxes so that the walmart heirs can earn billions off of all of us, even those who choose not to shop walmart, I might be more sympathetic to your argument.

Taxpayers should not be subsidizing billionaires, but that is another topic…

Really, people need to realize that these rule changes are going to cause some disruption and likely some lost jobs… but so does the lack of health care. The number one cause of bankruptcy, and probably foreclosures before the bush recession, was the lack or cap on healthcare coverage.

Even understanding the part time job creation in the short term, I still prefer a society that doesn’t offer the choice of death or bankruptcy as a result of a treatable health condition and lack of coverage.

People who qualify for only part time work bear some responsibility to prepare themselves for full time work so that they can leave these crummy companies for a better job that provides higher wages and better benefits. Companies that are larger bear the burden of providing some type of coverage, and in a competitive job market this is commonly provided. We all share in this burden and in the end, after a couple of years of adjustments, we will be in a better place.

You whining LSOS who will say anything to denigrate and disparage the black gentleman are pathetic. I have been proud of some of my white brethren who served before the half black man, but even I have to admit this gentleman has surpassed most if not all of them.

He has had to overcome the most racist members of my race and those that wink at their sick behavior. I have been called a “nigger lover” more times than I care to admit because it is down right shameful. I have practiced my share of bigotry in the past, but this attitude of say anything and belittle this black man at every opportunity is way over the top.

  14. Allen Says:

Oscar, you sound like a Robber Baron. There’s a reason we regulated them out of existence. Ayn Rand was a hollow hypocrite who used government assistance to support her morphine habit.

Riddle me this, Quackman. If Walmart has such a successful business model, why are it’s employees one of the largest groups of recipients of government assistance? We are absolutely subsidizing the Waltons.

  15. Adam Says:

Some of you guys are hilarious.

Some have: Issues w company XYZ? JC Penney has products that aren’t priced as well or as attractive as other companies (Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, etc). Barnes n Noble and Dell both failed, point blank, to innovate. I love books, but people don’t buy nearly as many anymore, so BnN is gonna struggle. Dell makes computers, which also, ppl are buying fewer of these days, in favor of tablets, phones, etc. Point blank, wrong mix of products, in all three examples. Not much to do w employees other than lack of creativity.

Nice also how you immeidately jump to unions, b/c I totally said that unions were the answer, and extolled their virtures. I didn’t, and they aren’t. But they are needed to keep management from totally disrespecting the workers.

The real fatal flaw is thinking the comparison of mgmt in a private company and govt are similar. They aren’t. At all. Stop that comparison, it is beyond flawed. Wal-Mart works b/c it can cut costs as necessary, stop providing products to consumers or services to employees, as it sees fit. Govt does not have this luxury.

It’s *possible* to stop providing services to people, but the process is significantly different from a private sector business, to the point where they are not even comparable. As long as you continue to try and make such comparisons, as simple and attractive as they are, you will fail to grasp anything close to the real picture.

Govt is forced (right now, given statute) w providing baseline medical care to really poor ppl. Wal-Mart has no such mandate, as a very simple and topical example. It can simply cut that cost, govt cannot. So they’re not comparable, at all.

It is not a school’s job to provide a workforce, it is society’s job. And yes, right now society isn’t doing an outstanding job of that. But that’s not our K-12 school systems’ fault. Also plz tell me where I said at all that schools are currently run really well, and producing tons of talented and smart graduates. I didn’t.

Ergo I imply that their current structure could be changed for the better. Obviously. Teachers (again, unions, where did I say they worked wonders?) do not produce a killer graduating class b/c they can’t overcome social hurdles like poverty, one kid familes, etc. They aren’t set up for that.

I don’t care how much of a superstar you are, if you have a kid in your classroom who comes to school hungry everyday, and concerned on a weekly basis of where he or she is gonna sleep next week, that kid is not going to be able to learn algebra. That’s not a teacher’s fault, and it should not be the expectation that they can magically overcome it.

I never said sitting around learning stuff from books was gonna solve problems. But it does provide perspective. The problem w higher ed is its teaching ppl the wrong things, and it is even MORE resistant to change the K-12 and govt, due IMO solely to the intellecutal arrogance of its workforce, and the social idea that you ‘need’ college to be successful (you don’t, but it helps, data don’t lie). Plenty of college grads have content. It’s laughable that you lump them all together into one group.

Finally, I’m not going to list off nations that do better than we do in terms of spending on healthcare and education. Really? You like to argue in the comments section, you’ve undoubtedly read about these nations before. Where they get their money, IDK? Taxes? Investments? Pinup Calendars? That’s not even the point. The point is that they spend it in such a way as to create a society that is more educated and productive than ours is. That’s the point.

Mikey: Dude I never said the govt can run things well. What I meant in saying that was private employers like to complain and complain about the onerous and horrible burden of having to provide healthcare to their employees. Why not just remove that burden? Healthcare costs increase like cray every year, why? Providing care? Gimme a break.

They increase b/c those companies want them to, and they have a truly unique economic good to sell, one that people will literally pay anything for. Plenty of other nations do just fine with a single payer system, it is significantly cheaper in the aggregate. Moreover, these nations when asked, rate themselves as free or freer than US citizens rate themselves. OMG Freedom?

Ask these people, they feel just as free. Get over it. Yes, there are stories about XYZ taking 4 years, or being denied, blah. Perhaps I’d be one of those people. I’d rather it take 4 years, than it take 8 months, then spend the next 10 years paying off $80K in debt. And, there are just as many, actually more of those same stories in the US. Come on. Counterfactual, people. Counterfactual. I will also completely agree that the ACA is not a good solution. It’s not. Duh. Obviously.

Some have issues with – Spending on defense and borders? Wow, dude. Without a healthy and productive workforce, the govt has no money, via taxes, to spend on defense and borders. Come on. And, the ACA is not single payer, so your medicaid examples are completely wrong.

Yes, right now those on Medicaid have free, but really crappy healthcare. True. Who pays for all this, in addition to paying healthcare premiums for themselves? WE ALL DO. We already do this. Remove the middle man selling a good we cannot live without, the price comes down, and we get better healthcare.

It’s not about a parallel system, it’s about one system. One system that is not medicaid. It will be a sea change to the way we think about and receive healthcare. There isn’t a comparison in this country. Period. Stop comparing it to Medicaid.

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) – Alleged Washington, D.C. shooter Aaron Alexis told police officers in Newport that he was being harassed by voices coming through his hotel room walls and ceiling, according to a report obtained by Target 12.

The incident report from the Newport Police Department on Aug. 7 states police were called to the Marriott Hotel at 6:23 a.m. for a harassment report. The report states they met with Alexis who told them he was in town as a naval contractor.

In-Depth: Washington Navy Yard Shooting Rampage
    READ: The Newport Police Report
“Alexis went on to explain that when getting on his flight from Virginia to Rhode Island he got into a verbal altercation with unknown party at the airport,” according to the report. “Alexis believes this individual that he got into argument with sent three people to follow him and keep him awake by talking to him and sending vibrations into his body.”

The name of the caller was blacked out in the report but Lt. William Fitzgerald of the Newport Police confirmed it was Alexis.

Alexis, who police gunned down Monday following the shooting rampage, told Newport officers he first heard the voices talking to him through a wall while at a Residence Inn in Middletown so he changed hotels twice, each time he claims they followed him, according to the report.

“Alexis stated that he had not witnessed any of these individuals, but he believes they are two black males and a black female,” the report states. “Alexis stated the individuals are using a microwave machine sending vibrations to his body so he cannot fall asleep.”

According to the report Alexis declined to tell officers what the voices were saying but “he is worried these individuals are going to harm him.”

“Alexis stated he never felt anything like this,” according to the report which went on to say Alexis told officers “he did not have any history of mental illness in his family and has never had any sort of mental episode.”

Officers told Alexis to stay away from the individuals and advised him to call police if he thought they were following him.

Police say Alexis, 34, opened fire inside a building at the Washington naval installation Monday and killed 12. He was gunned down in a shootout with law enforcement.

Lt. Fitzgerald said the police immediately notified security at the naval station about the incident and faxed over a copy of the report. He said the department had no further contact with Alexis.

    He declined to comment further.

Sarah Flaherty, A spokesperson for the Navy, said she could not talk about the report because it was an “ongoing incident” and directed questions to the FBI.

The FBI has not immediately returned calls for comment.

I met this alien who said she was not allowed to take me up to her ship because my body was mostly water and I would either freeze, dry up or crystalize depending on the method used to get me up and where I was taken.

One would think you aliens would be advanced enough to take a human aboard your ship. I would have doubted her except I don’t know any humans who can do the shit she does. What I don’t understand is how does she get up there in the human body she is in. She is so damn secretive except when she is fucking my brother. Then she lets the house here him come.

She claims that she has to change first, I don’t believe her because once she and my mother were on the phone telling me where to meet my brother who was coming over to Florina from Macedonia. We live in Tripoli. It is more than 370km from there to Florina. Before I hung up I told mother and Amia that I would meet him in Prespes National Park which is in Greece but on the border of Macedonia.

Before I hung up she was standing next to me with the shortest skirt on I have ever seen. She raised it so I and everyone within eyesight could see that she wasn’t wearing panties. So I put it to her. I asked her how she could travel so fast in a human body.

She gave me that -YOU Humans are so dumb- look and smiled and said, “I changed silly.” I don’t believe her. So Howie if you are still here what’s the truth?
