Parul Sehgal: An ode to envy
Posted by Michelle Moquin on November 2nd, 2013
Good afternoon!
Howie: Zen Lill is correct. The powers that be+ is usually the reason why there are no comments. I know all of my loyal readers are out there reading and many trying to post. Don’t be discouraged – they are out there.
I accept the is-ness of it. And really, my life is happily full these days. I used to look forward to seeing lots of comments because I had more time to read them all and respond. It’s not that I don’t still love seeing all of the dialogue, (I do! – I am very grateful for everyone choosing to be here!) My frustration lies in not always having the time to read and respond the way I would like to.
This blog means the world to me, and life is not giving me much time to play here – darn. Again, I accept the is-ness, do the best that I can, and roll with it, enjoy it as much as I can. I find that like many things in life, something is much more fun and easier to do when it rolls the way we want it to or we accept the way it is and we just go with it. I’m going with it right now. I am still here doing it, and still loving it. All is how it should be. :)
And…It is nice however to have you back with us again! I HOPE that whatever was pulling you away is OK now. There is a nice comfort in knowing that my long time regulars are still here with me too. So thanks to you and ZL, and the rest in no particular order – Social Butterfly, Anna and Peter of Guam, Robert,RT, Mike,TM, Lea, Anonz, Ruth,SM, Harris, Prism Princess, George,WN (Yes, because you illuminate another viewpoint!), and of course the various newbies, LeTa0…for continuing to put your time here. It too means the world to me. Did I miss anyone? My apologies if I did.
So…dear Readers, wha’at’s up this Saturday morning?
Well for me, I found this write while perusing the net. I found the speaker’s take on jealousy interesting.
Parul Sehgal: An ode to envy
What is jealousy? What drives it, and why do we secretly love it? No study has ever been able to capture its “loneliness, longevity, grim thrill” — that is, says Parul Sehgal, except for fiction. In an eloquent meditation she scours pages from literature to show how jealousy is not so different from a quest for knowledge.
Parul Sehgal is an editor for “The New York Times Book Review.” No scorn, no condescension. We read first for distraction then consolation then for company. And finally to be worthy of the company we kept,” writes literary critic Parul Sehgal, whose reviews are as delicious and delightful as the books themselves. Sehgal is an editor at The New York Times Book Review. Previously the Books Editor at NPR.org and the Senior Editor at Publisher’s Weekly, Sehgal is the recipient of the 2010 Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing and the 2008 Pan African Literary Forum’s OneWorld Prize for fiction. She lives in New York City.

Happy Saturday – Peace & Love.
Do you Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. Michelle and Zen Lill, I have no choice but to go with the flow. I was just disturbed and perhaps concerned because I know that there is no blog that compares to this one and I forgot about the many times that for reasons beyond your control, people could not get in to comment.
The end results of past interferences have always been solved and life continued happily in cyberspace as it has for over five years. If there was serious interference due to political interference from different parts of this crazy world we live in there is always Carr to help out. He has come to the rescue quite a few times in the past when there were several countries ganging up on you and interfering with communication between loyal readers and MM Blog.
Thank you both for reminding me. I was just away too long and forgot that this blog is something to be reckoned with as long as we have a functioning internet to send and receive text on.

Hafa Adai, Howie, if you know the aliens that are protecting Guam from Typhoons please tell them to stop Typhoon Francisco, headed for the western side of Guam. They helped to get it to pass the eastern side without much more that some high winds.
Thanks Howie.

Great idea Howie, tell Carr to fix their asses.

I know what jealously is my sister has always been jealous of my good looks. She is just pretty while I am a living beauty. She complains that her husband is all over me when they come to family affairs. I personally look forward to Thanksgiving as I am sure most of the husbands of my relatives do. They know that I will attend with the proper attire to give them a peek at what they will never have.

Howie, I could swear I saw a tiny alien in the forest canopy. I wasn’t looking but I had read your post about the Wonaski. Are they spread all over the planet? I live in Kentucky.

Gold of the heart – Messenger
of the soul – looking through
your eyes – I can see a pot
of gold – and there’s a touch
of frost on the ground – I
leave the lords of pain – and
then I turn around
Telepathic messenger – I can
hear your voice – Extra Terrestrial
measure – you’ve given me choice
I now see the spotlight – and
my dreams are on fire – Illuminate
my spotlight – as my spirit
rises higher – as I sit in the
chosen few – I hear you messenger
of the soul – as if I already knew

Jealously is so much a part of my life. My mother hates she gave birth to this gorgeous child. She is 48 and looks every minute of it. while I’m 31 and I look maybe 16 with breasts and a killer ass.
When we are out she walks ahead of me as if she can’t be behind and see all the looks I get. When we go into places I am always carded. She likes to lie and say she was too until she was 35. I remember her getting in without having to show her idea when she was 30 and I was 10.
Jealousy likes to lie.

Michelle, thanks for this article. I know it is tongue-in-cheek, but my friends are sooooo jealous of my success. They just can’t be happy for me. I would be happy for them if they ever did anything worth congratulatory gestures.
Pathetic little fucking minions. They never mention my accomplishments to their friends or bring them up when I am with them.

My husband is so jealous that he checks to see if I have panties on all the time. When we are out he shoves his hands under my dress or skirt and just checks. We have been married for 11 years and he never misses an occasion when I have on a dress or skirt.
If he had a brain he would check before I leave the house.

Zen Lill, that was some exercise. Whew, girl, do you actually do that?

I’ve been trying to find this blog all day. Now It pops up. Glad to see you are back Howie. Love the alien stuff.
I usually pick a different name to write in for. I wonder if that is what Al is doing. My sister says she recognizes his wit on occasion. I think she is batty because she likes the shit he says.
She told me the other day she was thinking of poisoning her idiot husband so she can leave Detroit and go to Florida to find Al. I hate to think what she will be like when she makes 50.
So what’s up with Al, is he gay, I am.

My friends are so jealous of each other. I don’t see the reason. It’s not like they are all that. Now, I’m too modest to tell but I can understand them being jealous of me. I’m a natural while they are peroxide wannabes.
I’m 5’10″ while they are cramming their abused feet into 6″ spikes. My ass belongs on a sister, while they could sit without a cushion. I’m 41 but my body says 21, while they have had so many babies that their bodies look like broken down roadways.
I’m a good friend so I don’t put them down. But they definitely have reason to be jealous of me.

I’m a gay guy who looks like a beautiful woman. Some of the straight girls in my class are sooooooooooo jealous. They make fun of me when they are with their boyfriends. I laugh on the side because some of them have had more of my ass than theirs.
I get my dick sucked regularly by some of their macho boy friends when they come sneaking over to my house. I refuse to give them head but I let them suck this dick. That goes across all racial lines. They like this hot stuff.
